Love this place. We loved Alice and Nora! They were wonderful professionals quick and gave us great advise and the price was unbeatable for the quality of these nails. My daughter had a kids French gel which the charged $22 no manicure just paint. I had tip added and gel for $60 I believe so good! We had soda and relaxed and left feeling super happy and pretty. I used to come here quite often, when Teresa was the owner. She was friendly and customer service was her number one priority. She then sold the place to the owners that are now and I've heard not so great things. However, on a last-minute whim, because my nail tech is currently out due to family matters, and I needed my nails done, I wanted to give this place a try. The first time I went - was decent. However, my nails cracked after a 1.5 week later. I figured, maybe it was my fault, because of the light color I had chosen. I came back several weeks later with my mom and had my nails done again. My appointment was Saturday morning. By Sunday afternoon, I had 4 cracked nails on my right hand. Several days later, I had another cracked nail on my left hand. I called and spoke to several employees, who spoke to the owner, and the owner refused to give any sort of discount, or refund. She did offere to fix the nails however I was out of town for an event and couldn't come in. She then stated, through her employee, that no refund would be eligible and did not care to see any photos of my nails as proof. I will not be coming back to this place ever again. As a side note, when my mom's nails were done, the lady up front had to remove the excess polish on her skin around ALL 10 nails.... Customer service here is dead. Greed will not prevail. read more

Horrible experience! I completely agree with the reviews DO NOT GO HERE!!!! I asked for basic almond glazed donut nails and got a horrible green/pink reflective chrome. Kept telling them it wasn't pearl and they insisted that I pay without a discount and go back to fix then PAY the extra $15 for chrome. Like no that's not how you do business with a dissatisfied customer. The shape looks so bad that the other salon that fixed them asked if a 7 year old did them. Worst salon I have gone to!!! Retention Nails is a five-star experience. It was recommended to me from neighborhood locals and regulars and they didn't steer me wrong. Service is impeccable, the aesthetic is clean, light and fresh. Oh, and the massage chairs really do their job - I was shaking all over the place. I noticed the nail tech holding my feet down while he polished my toes. I'm sorry, my friend! There is no wall of polish in this spa. You choose your nail color from a ring of painted acrylic nails as you would for gel or SNS in most salons but the colors on the ring can and do align with traditional nail polish offerings. I got the Deluxe Pedicure and I can't wait to go back for that and for SNS. I loved talking to my tech. He was nice, accommodating and he gave me the best foot and leg massages ever. I told him I wanted to stay all day. And you'll want to as well. Definitely book! read more

What a bummer! This used to be my go-to nail salon, even though it was a little pricey. But I went today after not coming since late 2022 and the management has changed, and most of my favorite nail techs are gone. You'll see that the stellar reviews for this salon are from when Teresa used to be the manager. The salon felt very different this visit. I waited at least 15 min for my scheduled appt. They now have a TV but it just played like a weird European tourism on loop every 5 minutes. My nail tech's work was a bit sloppy-SNS is too thick, he didn't ask how short before filing them super short, he cut my cuticles twice (and they bled!), and he was just too rough in general. Also I paid a bit extra for a manicure and for that I got 2 bleeding cuticles, a quick hot towel on my hands and a super fast, maybe 1 min long, dry (no lotion) hand massage. For me, all of those minor details add up. I think for $61 I can have a better experience elsewhere. read more

So retention is still pretty new in my opinion! I've been here a handful of times, and confident in saying it feels nice and clean! And they are nice and clean! Which is super important at a nail salon. I love that they have a fancy air filter system, to protect you, they had this before covid people! It's like the only one I know of in Charlotte. They also all wear masks before Covid. All except for the owner Theresa, but she does now during Covid of course. Nail wise, I've always had a job well done and been pleased with my service. Also Theresa is very friendly and helpful. She makes an effort to get to know you. She wants your business and you to come back, and appreciates you - you can feel it. They have only wine for alcohol, only downfall in my opinion. But also sparkling water, water, soda, coffee, and snacks! They used to give a 5% discount when you paid with Venmo which was awesome. During covid she's not able to and that's understandable. I went for a birthday pedi and she was so nice, wished me a happy birthday! Gave me a gift, a bottle of the lotion they use. What other nail salon does that? Com'on,. Even upgraded me to the vip room by accident but still did it and didn't make us pay (I had a friend with me). Retention is the best for so many reasons. Went to a nail salon last Thursday after work to get my nails done for an upcoming event. I had showed them the nails I was going for and asked them to keep my length as well as shaping my nails into the classic almond look. They ended up up cutting too much length that I was basically left with nubs with a slight peak in the middle. Needless to say, not what I expected My sister ended up finding this salon and managed to schedule me for Friday after work(just in time for the event). Teresa was so helpful and sat down with me to see what we could do and what I was actually looking for. After settling on what I'm looking for and what we could do, I was ready to see Maya. I ended up getting tips, sns, and adding a gel design. I showed Maya what I wanted and she worked her magic. I loved it! She was great, worked great, super nice, payed great attention to detail. When she was done, I felt as if I had nails that are the ones I'm constantly seeing on Instagram. Im always iffy about nail salons and never find one I'm quite satisfied with but Retention went above and beyond my expectations. Highly recommend! I really enjoyed visiting this location as it was convenient and clean. However, last Friday my husband and I had a day date (which is a rare occurrence when you have kids) and decided to get pedicures. We had 2 pm appointments and arrived right on time. I had the classic pedicure and he chose the deluxe. My pedicure was over in 15 minutes, which is totally out of the norm, and his was over in 25 minutes. I was a little taken back as they usually last 40-45 minutes. I paid $100 for two pedicures and we left. On Sunday, I noticed how terrible the pedicures had actually been, specifically my husbands. I sent a message on Instagram, rather than going public, with my concerns. They quickly responded with, "come back on Monday and we can fix it." I knew he wasn't going to go back but I still appreciated it. An hour later, that message was deleted, and this message was sent... I am just speechless. Is this really the customer service a business is offering? Teresa missed the entire point! It's insulting to send this to a customer. Not to mention her tech most definitely misunderstood him. Updated review, August 12, 2022: Went in for pedicure today with somone I have gone to in the past--Maya. Tried to schedule another pedi two weeks out and Chris went to ask her. She came back and informed me Maya didn't want to do it. I asked Chris the reason, and she couldn't give me one. This was a very unsavory experience, and frankly, I found it rude. There were no issues during the pedi that I was aware of and I tipped Maya well. Go here if you want to be discriminated against for no reason. This experience left me feeling unwelcome here and though I gave it rave reviews in the past, I doubt I'll be returning. I'm also NEVER offered a beverage. I would expect more couth from an establishment owned by a doctor, but que sera sera...overpriced services for TRASH treatment. I had a design that i wanted and was charged for, I was told that it would be 70$ up front. I had David as my nail tech. They didn't have the beads and I was okay with the sparkles instead. While he was doing my nails the marble with the acrylic powder wasn't looking right. Basically looked like white with spots missing. After the acrylic I asked if he could marble with gel instead because it wasn't marble at all. He started with all white and attempted to put BLACK marble on my nails. I told him no and to try pink instead. I told him multiple times to add more pink and he refused to listen. This is what I ended up with and I am extremely unhappy. It's zebra print. Then they tried to charge me 82$ for the design that I didn't even get. The man at the front was very kind and understanding. I still ended up paying 70$ for nails I will be doing again myself. read more

I am not from Charlotte but took advantage of a bit of "me" time with my sister to get a gel mani. I WISH this salon was in my home town!!! It's spotless, clean, calming (they play classical music!!) and the staff and owners are beyond friendly and amazing!!! And... you MUST see Daniel. This was the worst nail experience I've ever had. I spent over $130 on a gel mani and pedi. They up-charged for the shape of nails and colors that I got. The pedi water was cold even though I mentioned it to her she just ignored me. When I told her I didn't like the color after seeing it on me she painted my nails with it anyway until I insisted again to switch the color. All of that I can look the other way at, especially since they stayed a little late doing mine and I can understand why it felt so rushed as they probably just wanted to get home. The problem is that 2 of my toe nails chipped off within 12 hours of getting them done, even though I paid extra for the gel polish. I reached out to the owner and she did give me a $30 refund which I was happy with. However, the next day 2 of my acrylics came off while I was sleeping. I have never had such a bad job with done before. This is terrible, especially since I got them done for a wedding. I could have honestly done better myself. Trust me, don't even waste your time or your money. I only am giving them one star because I have to. I've been getting my nails done since I was a kid and I've never had such a bad experience in my life. read more

The pandemic helped me to really try and take care of my nails (stop biting) and after many many attempts of polishing my own nails, I finally came here. I looked up several places and settled on Retention nails as a beginner and I have not been disappointed. My first time they were able to fit me in and Daniel did my manicure. He is amazing if you get him. They get very busy so since I have been making appointments and this last time Maya did my manicure, she is amazing as well. The atmosphere is relaxing, gentle, and serene. Extremely clean environment as well. I really feel at home coming here and really look forward to seeing everyone. I have been to this nail salon four or five times. I rave about the owner and the workers (they are perfectionists...they treat your mail as if it were their own) to my friends and have sent many people their way if they want a fantastic mani or pedi! They are a little pricey, but again, you get what you pay for. Today I took my daughter in to get birthday nails... It was memorial day holiday so I can understand that they were a little understaffed (I heard the front desk worker say this to someone else when explaining the wait). The part that I didn't like was that my daughter waited an hour to get service by nail technician (I was done by the time they started on her) and that three other people were serviced before her that came in after (we had a 12:30 appt, a man with a 1:00 and a woman with a 1:30 were serviced before my daughter and a walk-in nail fill was serviced before her as well). That part was frustrating. We finally got Peter and he went above and beyond to make my daughters nail art designs come true. Loved Peter! In general it was pretty frustrating to not be communicated with while we were waiting for so long. read more
