I love the jicama tacos so much and the staff is amazing at handling special food request. My husband is recently on a low sodium diet and Reana is just wonderful, no problem let's talk through how to do this. We love sitting at the bar, it's like cheers for us as we see so many friends there. Olga and the others always check in and say hi. Our first time in this Mexican restaurant and we were seated near the front of restaurant, the murals on wall were very picturesque, our hostess was Patricia, she was okay, she brought us a guacamole dip by mistake, my wife loved the guacamole dip, she also had the Taco Salad, l had the Chimichanga & Tamales, pretty good. I thought the Frozen Strawberry Margarita at $13 was exspensive for the size of the drink. The Manager/Owner was very friendly & sociable with her regular customers. read more

This place is my favorite place for Mexican food? It was so busy today and yet the service was on point. They have parking right next-door in the parking garage. So you don't have to walk far and you don't have to search for parking. Ambience was awesome. I can't rave enough about this restaurant. I always get their steak taco dinner. Can't wait to go again. A casual environment with excellent service. The food was not what I expected yet for the price it was fair. It was OK, not great but OK. I thought it would be closer to Mexican cuisine but it was typical American-Mexican. The skirt steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare; unfortunately it was not marinated for the expected flavor. It just was like eating a flavorless steak. The cheese enchilada had a hunk of cheese wrapped in a corn tortilla but the cheese was more like a cheese stick that did not melt. Unfortunately I could not eat it. The tortilla chips were from a bag, commercially made, not what I expected. Even so, for the price I can understand. In my case, I would prefer to pay more for the real thing; a good enchilada, tasty skirt steak, etc. The rice and refried beans were good. Cheese over the refried beans was minimal. The bottom line is would I return... probably not. After 40 years in So Cal I may be giving an unfair comparison. I don't want to discourage the average customer. I'm Italian/Sicilian and am very critical of the typical Italian/American cuisine. Likewise with Mexican cuisine I want what I am used to eating in So Cal. Most people, friends, etc., love Italian restaurants which I don't like. I believe most will also like Santa Fe Mexican so give it a try and decide for yourself. And again, the service was excellent! read more

I have boycotted this restaurant ever since one of the managers (name is Reyna) asked me and my 2 lady friends to leave shortly RIGHT after we finished eating because it was busy and they "needed our table." It was my friend's 80th birthday and this was a big deal to her. Meanwhile, a group of MEN who were sitting nearby, and who had been finished with their meals before we got there were NOT asked to leave. Nothing worse than when women discriminate against other women. No great loss. The food is extremely bland. Definitely not authentic Mexican. And look what was on the floor (see photo) read more

Husband tried carne asada and loved it. I had chicken fajitas which were average. The alfresco margarita was very refreshing, but 13$ which I felt was a little pricey. 2 stars for the husbands meal and 1 star for the service. I asked the waitress for another tortilla for my fajitas but she never came back with them or to fill our water. Eventually came back after awhile to ask if we wanted dessert - no mention of the missing tortilla, if we needed a refill or if I wanted another margarita, I won't be back unless the husband is in the mood for a good carne asada. read more

Lame meal for second time in a couple months. Weak margaritas, bland steak chimichanga, greasy taco, stale tasteless chips, runny tasteless red sauce. Starving for business with only a couple tables it is too bad as we like the location and people. Only redeeming value was prompt and courteous service. Hopefully momma can pay better attention to the recipes and pour some stiffer drinks. Prices were reasonable but not inexpensive. 58 for two with one drink each and a generous tip. Friendly service, quality dishes, and margaritas worth calling a cab for. I've visited a couple of times and the margaritas at this place are are really super delicious. If you need to scratch that itch, you can't go wrong here. They have some dishes that are a bit more creative - but are also very willing to accomodate. They made my chilli relleno into a burrito and it was delicious. Their appetizer sampler platter is great as well. Some of their prices appear to be a bit high, but when you realize the tacos are probably 2-3x the size you would get anywhere else you can start to understand. I felt like the restaurant was very clean. Dining in during the pandemic required a contactless forehead temp check which made me feel a little safer and masks were always worn by staff. There is also a large outdoor tent for a few of the local businesses. Most importantly - every server, cook, and bartender here was as friendly as can be. When I'm here I feel like I'm being treated like family and served with the utmost care, respect, and friendliness. Santa Fe is definitely worth checking out! read more

Service, Location, Atmosphere 3 feels right as a place that is ok, not stellar but, accessible. Service Stumbled upon this restaurant after hearing hour to hour-and-a-half wait everywhere else. The hostesses was nice enough to clean off a table for us to sit at quickly. The servers were rushed but cordial. I think what the reviews about service hit on is the "Mexican" part of the service. We sat by the chips and POS stations and watched the confusion and arguments first hand. Location Can beat it. Glen Ellyn is a cute town and this is right in the center of it. Parking is close and when you're done eating you can walk down to the coffee shops around the corner. Atmosphere The restaurant itself is a little cliché minus the accuracy. It's old but clean. The bar is probably the saddest thing I've ever seen. Drinking seems to be a year round sport in this area. Instead of maximizing sales by encouraging people on hour waits to drink there, they put a table up against the bar, with no other chairs. That's right, the bar has no barstools. Lunch at Santa Fe is an enjoyable experience if you're craving Mexican food and are in need of a chill vibe. My friend and I were in need of both and this place fit the bill. The staff was low key but very accommodating and friendly. It is a seemingly "mom and pop" operation and that's rare these days. Starting with the standard chips and salsa I was excited: they provided two different types of salsa and both were delicious (in particular, the warm orange one is the better one!). The enchiladas, veggie quesadilla, and taco/enchilada combo were all tasty and came to our table hot and ready to eat. There was a bit more grease on the plate than I like to see but, then again, it seems to be pretty authentic Mexican food. We washed things down with a few margaritas, which were made by hand, and called it a day. The prices, and the portions, are right about what you'd expect. You can walk away with a full belly and a semi-full wallet. A win-win. I know I'll be back again some day soon. read more

Truth be told, I was at Maize + Mash first (a local gastropub that specializes in whiskey, cocktails and small plates). The place was packed and the minimum wait was quoted at 2 & 1/2 hours... Just two people! And couldn't find a spot at the bar.. Poopers! So, we exited and picked the next open spot. Santa Fe. (Similar gastros in the area also had lengthy wait times. Only Santa Fe and an Irish pub next door had the shortest or no wait.) The restaurant was lively but the quoted wait time was 15 minutes or less. The front of house (host area) was run by two very young ladies. We opted to wait at the bar. My date sat while I stood. The sweet bartender insisted we try their house margaritas, our choice of tequila. And that's where the great service ended. We realized the hosts had forgotten about us and given up our table. After reminding them, we were seated almost immediately. By this time we'd already been in there almost 30 minutes and the restaurant began to clear out. Soon after this... it was pitfall after pitfall. In damn near an hour's time we were able to somewhat enjoy an appetizer without silverware or napkins. Could have had another margarita but our waiter was mostly MIA. The experience was garbage and we were ready to go. The one appetizer cost $9.95 a Cincronizada. Although I'd only requested a half of one they brought a full. This is a mediocre appetizer. It's a quesadilla with grilled ham, onions, tomatoes & cheese. Nothing special. I won't say much more.. just that.. never again. This was the most American Mexican food I've seen in awhile. Beyond their specials of the day, everything else run-of-the-mill. The quality of your dining experience will be determined by your waiter. Try to get the guy.. his pronunciations of dishes are terrible but at least he knows how to waiter. read more

We were hoping this place would be our new go-to Mexican place. Sadly, it is not. The chips and salsas were delicious and that's where it stopped. The queso dip was nothing more than melted velveeta combined with a can of rotel. The wrong food was brought to our table. I watched them walk it back to the kitchen and turn around and bring it to the right table. I'm pretty sure this is a health code violation, especially in the COVID era. Our food was lackluster at best. Nothing really wowed us. Another table asked to speak with the manager about the food. They complained that everything was bland and too salty, which I would say is true. The worst part is that we all woke up with upset tummies the next morning and attribute it to the food. We won't be back. Our health and taste buds are more important than that. read more

We have been going to Santa Fe for over 40 years as a family. Last week after my moms memorial service we brought in a large group and received the best food and service the appetizer trays were delicious the drinks are generous and the food is authentic. This family run business serves excellent traditional Mexican food - the nachos are amazing and each one topped individually rather than in a big messy pile. The enchiladas are perfectly made and if you like mole get the mole enchiladas. Can't say enough about this wonderful restaurant. read more

After two weeks of cooking at home due to Covid-19 Coronavirus stay home orders, we were craving Mexican Food and our desire to support local business we ordered our take out. As usual Superb service on our phone order, one of the owners and the whole process so smooth I was feeling "a good experience". The test, get home, food was still same temp as if we were there and tasting as delicious as we expected. BRAVO, OLE OLE OLE OLE, OLE OLE!!! Such an incredible & welcoming place! The staff was incredibly helpful and sweet. My friend and I arrived right as their kitchen closed (8:30), because their Yelp hours said they were open until 10. They offered us a table, offered us quesadillas, chips, guac, salsas & drinks. I'm the kind of person that never would go to a place right as they're closing, but snow storm, yelp hours & everything else being closed led me to staying after their kitchen was closed. In the face of this the workers were incredibly kind, attentive, and friendly. Reyna was the sweetest bartender/server & I will 10000% be coming back (at a more reasonable time!) This is the second time since Covid I was charged $10 more that the menu asked prices and still more money then said when asked a price for a pitcher She told us 40 and on the bill it was 42. You cannot ask prices nothing will be the same it's all a guessing game. Not where I want to spend my money at. They should have the same price for everything all over the place. The menu said the price for the steak and enchilada was 1695 we were charged 1995 a piece. read more

Saw them passing through Glen Ellyn a couple weeks ago and decided to check them out with my husband. Very convenient free city lot almost next door. Service was very friendly and accommodating. Margaritas are great as advertised! And our food was wonderful. We aren't big eaters so I appreciate the ala Carte menu. We'll be back for the half orders of nachos and other appetizers-a perfect weekend lunch with drinks. A word to the wise; our waiter said a pitcher of margaritas was 6 glasses.. ah no. Closer to 10. If you're a party of two go for the half pitcher. Just woke up from a snooze on the couch. All in all loved it.
