If I was reviewing this place strictly as a restaurant, I'd give it 3 stars -- as a bar gets it 5. The bar is really cool. Reminds me of the bars I've been to in Mexico. Lots of Day of the Dead kitshy stuff, lots of tequilla. Great selection of beers, too. I had a beer, but want to try the margaritas next time. They are served (if requested) with chili salt and a chili pepper tossed into the glass. Bartenders are friendly and helpful. The food. If I had never been to some of the hole in the wall taco joints in Indy like Guanajuato, I would probably have thought the tacos were pretty good. But knowing what I know, these are only ok. The quality of the meat is good and I like the house-made taco sauces. But something about them is just ok, a bit dry and a bit unflavorful. My friends had the shrimp and pork, and said the same thing. The chips and guac were ok, but nothing special. The salsa had a weird sweetness that to me was a bit unpleasant. Both times I've been there, the chips were a bit stale. Still, once you down a margarita or two at the awesome bar, you'll probably care a lot less about the food. read more

I love this place! They have great tacos and their burgers are very delicious!! I'm in love with their tiki patio. Good food but you're taking a gamble with the service especially when you are with a large group. 1) ask for the drink specials. There's usually some shot on special. 2) try the queso. It's delic. If you're super hungry or with a big group, get the nachos, they are huge. 3) I get the beef tacos each time. As a heads up, it's only the tortilla shell and meat by they bring a lot of different salsas to the table. Taste the salsa before putting on your tacos because some of them are spicy. 4) the service my first couple visits was horrible. Like. Rude servers, waiting for ever to get a drink order. At one time I said I was never going back but friends convinced me. Since then the service has improved, however when with a larger group he prepared to wait. read more

I love this place, tacos are simple but delicious, the chips with all the different sauces are amazing as well. You also cannot beat the drinks! From the house margarita to the Kalesi everything is just delicious. The set up of the restaurant open, and you have to see the decorations to really understand them. Ok, ok, I know you'll get to the bottom of this and be like, "this guy didn't event get a taco!" I will confess, on my latest trip to Revolucion I did decide to go with a burger. (Which was great btw) Eating Mexican the previous three days in a row can in fact get to you. So, let me first start by saying that I've been here several times and indulged in the tacos. They're small but pack a nice punch in the filling category. With several different choices, you'll be racking your brain as to which pair to choose. I personally have thoroughly enjoyed the veggie and pork. Their margs are delicious and they have a variety of flavors and tequilas to choose from. The price for everything is decent too, so don't worry about breaking the bank when you visit! The space is large and accommodate large groups of need be. They also have a GREAT 'tiki-hut' style bar area out back that is perfect for having a drink or two on a nice sunny day. Street parking only but of course Fountain Square rocks in that department with plenty of spaces around the area to park. (and for FREE!) If you're in the area and enjoy Mexican dishes or are just a fan of some great margaritas, I would recommend checking this place out! read more

I went, probably, far too long without hitting up Revolucion. And for no particular reason. Maybe it was because I was such a La Marg fan? But they really are two different beats. I love La Marg, and I don't really feel like they are comparable. Yes - they both have tacos. But the atmosphere at Revolucion is so much different. It's calm - yet exiting. It's fun! There's a tiki bar! It's a big melting pot. And on -let's not mention the taco's are SO GOOD. I think I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly the tacos came out and how utterly delicious they were. It was like the pork was slow roasted all day. Maybe it was - I didn't ask. I was too busy shoving it into my mouth to ask questions. Went here to celebrate Cinco De Mayo. The decor in here is amazing. I loved it. Such a cute little tiki bar. The margaritas are pretty standard but still good. We loved our tacos but they are expensive. 7-8$ for two of them and two is not filling enough for me so we ended up getting 3 different orders so we each got three total. The chips and queso or salsa is all ala carte as well so overall with our drinks, our bill was pretty expensive. I've been here a few times. It's one of the nicer places to eat down the street when you have a little bit of extra money to spend on food and drinks. I will go on and say that I love the wait staff here. The last waiter we had was pretty fun. He was able to keep up with everyone else I was with's demands somehow, such as the "surprise me with whatever kind of vodka drink" and he delivered each time. He was even able to separate that order perfectly. As a thank you, we left him a super nice tip and a creepy "I miss you already" message on top of the receipt. He later saw me at an event at Pioneer and joked about it. Cool guy, he is. I think for the best bang for your buck, definitely get the nachos. They are loaded and they are huge. I thought about getting them the last time and I told myself that I was going to try something new. Whereas the quesadillas I got were good (despite them being corn tortillas) they were very small. However, they were only $4. I don't recall them always having burgers on their menu, but last time we were there, they did. The burgers that my friends had looked super delicious. A little odd to order burgers at a Mexican themed restaurant, but I'm passionate about variety. We got three orders of chips with salsa, cheese and bean dip. I was 100% surprised that I absolutely loved the bean dip. I don't have a huge issue with refried beans, but the texture is just not my favorite. However, the flavor of their bean dip was perfect. Mix all three of those dips together and wow, you just died and stepped into heaven. Once again though, if you would just get the nachos, you won't even have to worry about this. The drinks are very nice. The special birthday vodka was a little odd and the original drinker didn't care for it, but I was able to guzzle it down. That's not really the server's fault though. He was told to make something that was more bitter and tart rather than sweet with vodka. That's exactly what the drink was. I had the spicy margarita and I do repeat, DO NOT DRINK THIS WHILE EATING A JALAPEÑO. It will not cool your mouth off, especially if you run out of the water provided. The margarita was pretty good though. My friend had this bomb-ass strawberry margarita. Wow. That was honestly pretty perfect. Margaritas aren't really my go to, but they do them well. I would give this place a five out of five on the environment. Real solid ambiance. It is fun while remaining chill. Very nice wooden modern look with a cool tiki bar in the back. Very clean establishment also. I would say this is a great place to chill with a few friends or something intimate such as a date or a place to catch up with an old pal. read more

Lucha Libre masks. Five Stars. I'm serious. I miss them. They now have a place in this town. Don't be shocked if you see me sporting one. Well... you can be surprised but I told you so. If this was a room that didn't have a bar or food and just had what it has on the walls... five stars. I've been mighty hesitant to give five stars lately -- it needs to be a full-sensory experience that gets me from every angle to get the five stars (read: last review of five stardom -- Terry's Turf Club). You'll notice I like bright lights, big flavor, craft beer, neon colors, sincere service in borderline kitsch environments). All you need to know: *a dedication to craft beer in the front room *a dedication to tiki beer & drinks in the tiki bar / patio in the back. *a dedication to cantina style eats while also pleasing the staples of burgers and fries too. I don't know why you would not want to be Tom Selleck in a Ferrari with a fish taco in your right hand while being Magnum P.I. You can get that fish taco at Revolucion. *The hot chipotle salsa is worth every ounce of work & effort to get there. *Say, "patata bravas," loud, or at least join me here when I say it loud after I order the chipotle potato toothpick thing that makes me smile. The tacos are bigger than usual, so an order of two is just fine. There's a full bar if that's your thing. I think if you asked the owners, "do you intend to be an authentic mexican cantina?" I think you might get an answer like, "well, not really, um, we're not mexican." So... having said that... the food is a deviation of classic Mexican food -- you know... just so your expectations are set. Again, lucha libre masks while eating a fish taco makes me smile -- a lot. I came back for shrimp tacos. After some inquiry, I was introduced to the pink death sauce, and my night was made. Revolucion exceeded my expectations on a hot sauce. You have to ask for it though, otherwise hot sauce is not offered to you, even when it isn't busy. I could eat about 20 shrimp tacos here with chipotle and pink death sauces mixed on them. So extremely fantastic. Marinated perfectly with a beautiful smattering of cheese in between the tortillas on these babies. I'm getting hungry just thinking about this. It's like entering a new world, with a great fenced in patio and all the tropical island decor you would hope for. It feels like a speakeasy oasis with good food and bright, fun drinks. Waitress was very rude. Ended up just paying for drinks and leaving. Went on double date and other couple both ordered burgers. Asked for well done and waitress told us "they just come as they come we dont cook to temp." Hmmmm okay. We must have looked understandably confused because she then said " well I guess I can write well done on there." Also there is a big gatorade cooler where you serve yourself waters, which is cool, but when we say well take waters no need to scoff. I'm sure you have regulars who already know the drill but come on. Too many rules and things they don't do. Guess we'll make it a rule to not eat there. read more

I'm torn. When it comes to a tasty margarita, Revolución ranks really high! Shoot - I don't normally even like tequila, so margaritas are usually my last choice for an enjoyable adult beverage. Revolución is the exception for me. I love their house margarita with sugar rim. Mmmmmm.... Add to that their tasty tacos and burgers, and I'm a happy foodie! BUT...then there's the service. Inconsistent is the best word to describe it, in my opinion. We've visited there about 4-5 times (I crave those margaritas!), and it's about 50/50 good versus so-so service. Our first time was Great - with a capital G! The next time time...ehh. The third was back to being good! The last couple of times it was... meh. Definitely a cool atmosphere, both inside the restaurant itself and out back on their outdoor patio. The food was also delicious - I've had their tacos before but tried the nachos this go around and fell in ! I also had a margarita and while I prefer Bakersfield's over theirs, they were still pretty tasty. My only complaint about this place is that it is a seat yourself type restaurant, meaning there is no hostess and you just find whatever table is open. Not a big deal when it's not packed, but when you go during peak times, it's slightly annoying and stressful. Customers shouldn't have to play watchdog to snag a table and there's nothing to ensure people who come after you don't get a table before you do. For this reason alone, I wouldn't come here for dinner, and if I walked in and had to wait for a table, I'd definitely just walk out. read more

I usually love La Revolucion but tonight wasn't my best experience. I got my regular Tijuana Torpedo my bun was burnt. They ran out of guacamole and it was supposed to come with my burger. They ran out of food in general I got lucky they still had burgers and fries. Unfortunately, this is not the first time I have experienced them running out of food. I was a little disappointed with my experience but I will return. They have my spicy and passion fruit Margaritas that I enjoy so I am not going to let this one experience stop me from coming back. The experience just made me want to eat and get out of there. They have a lovely backyard patio to sit and chill. They close at midnight so get there early if you want to sit, sip, and eat. It is one of the places in fountain square that you need to visit at least once. read more

I've been here a few times over the past few years but lately they've made some changes (I believe for the better) so I feel compelled to write a review. Firstly, I've always thought the decor inside was beautiful. The skeleton paintings (by local srtist Shelby Kelley) are a huge focal point and so colorful and vibrant. There ars also large tables available so if yoy have a large group, fear not. They can accommodate. They have a selection of over 100 tequilas and mezcals. They've also added a mezcal margarita to their menu offering (Maybe it was there before but I don't remember seeing it.) They've also added an AMAZING appetizer (that I ordered as my meal because I'm an adult who is allowed to make those choices) and have added a new burger to their menu as well. The service has always been good. Our servers are always friendly and the last time I went (before last night) I even had a sweet server who offered some eclectic words of wisdom about the breakup I was going through. They have PEOPLE working there instead of service bots which is nice. And they're good servers at that, checking in regularly and keeping things refilled. And the food and drinks have always been good but lately they've been REALLY great. I dunno if there's been a change of staff or more training for the kitchen but the Mexican poutine I ordered really made my taste buds happy. I would highly suggest getting it with the pork but the refried beans give it a lot of protein and flavor on its own so even if you're vegetarian you'll be in luck. They have great margaritas and I've only sampled a few tequilas from their QUITE extensive list. Hopefully I will be back soon to sample more. If you're looking for a more adult Mexican place in Fountain square, I would definitely suggest here. You have to be 21 to get in so there's no screaming kids or teenagers to alter your experience. Tried the fish tacos upon a recommendation and the shrimp tacos and preferred the shrimp tacos. Served with a home made mango salsa and cilantro. Delicious! Also had an order of chips and the chipolte salsa and patatas brava, both were tasty. The salsa was sneaky, the first few bites seem reasonable, but then the heat creeps up. I recommend copious amounts of water, beer, or a margarita. The beer list is pretty sweet with about half the taps being local. Didn't go check the tiki bar, perhaps on my next visit. I really like the bright Dia de los Muertos decor and the open dining room. I was scoping a huge burger about 4 seats down from me at the bar and it will be mine, oh yes it will be mine. I had to up my rating after stopping in Revolucion last night. The veggie tacos are freakin delicious! I also needed about a 5 gallon bucket of the fresh guacamole. My wife and I just had our date night dinner here, tried this place out for the first time....we both loved this place!!! What's not to love? To the cool Hawaiian style music to the awesome decor, this place will make you feel like you're on vacation! My wife and I got the chips and homemade salsa for an appetizer and the shrimp tacos for our entree which both were very tasty! I got the Kahiki Kai which has a coconut and banana taste, very good! They have an indoor area and an outdoor area called the tiki bar, of course that's where we had to sit considering it's nice out tonight! The staff was very friendly, the place looked clean and well taken care of. If you are ever in the Fountain Square area you really need to try this place out! I was craving nachos and margaritas, and after seeing a picture of "The Scorpion" online, I knew this was the place to be. We decided to sit in the Tiki Bar which was a pleasant surprise to me! It's probably the best outside dining experience in Indy without water, and it even gives those with water a run for their money. After I saw The Scorpion in person, I realized I did not have enough people with me, and/or I wasn't having *that* kind of night. Maybe next time. ;) I opted for the Lillikoi Margarita and chicken nachos. Lillikoi means passion fruit, and when I asked the server in what language, she guessed Hawaiian. Sounds about right due to the decor. We found it a bit odd that a Mexican restaurant would have Hawaiian decor...I don't know who's idea that was, but we loved it! As noted in several other reviews, the service is extremely slow. I don't know if that's due to the relaxed nature of the Tiki Bar or what. It was fine for this night, but I don't know if that would work for me every time. The chicken nachos looked amazing, but the taste didn't quite match the appearance. They were just ok. *Shrugs* Overall I was pleased with my experience, and I will return. I give the food 3 stars, but give the extra star for the outdoor dining and the margarita. Revolucion was our regular place to eat for a long time. The staff had changed over the years but for a good while they had the same friendly faces that remembered you time and again. They did go through a stint where the service was going down hill and food was not as good and the menu had not changed at all. Recently, I have made multiple visits and they have definitely changed it up. They added a few extra items to the menu, like Mexican Poutine which is amazing. The tacos are still a great choice and they added some new cocktails tequila and mezcal cocktails that are still reasonably priced. They also have a tiki bar which I've always wanted to spend more time in. The art always adds a wonderful addition to the experience there. I still miss my regular servers and bartenders but they have impressed me recently and I will keep going back. read more

Mexican eats, beer on tap, and tequila-based cocktails? Reasonably priced. Chill artsy vibes? Free of charge. I've been to Revoluction several times now, both on dates and with groups of friends. Located in downtown Fountain Square, it's a great spot to grab a bite before First Friday or the next show at the Hi-Fi. With a mixture of large community tables and two-tops, it easily accommodates large and small groups for dinner. In addition, they have seating at the bar, as well as another standing bar, if you just want to grab a pint. I've still yet to make it to their outdoor patio, which is a bummer because I've heard it's on of the best in town! The service isn't great. It's adequate, but could definitely be faster/more attentive. However, if you're just chatting with friends/family over dinner and aren't in a hurry, this is almost preferred. Their tacos are a close second to Bakersfield for me, but you definitely get more for you money at Revolucion, which is always appreciated. I've had both the Pastor (pork) and Fish (tilapia) tacos - both were good, but Fish are my favorite. The chips and guacamole aren't anything to write home about, but are a good compliment to the tacos. What's really cool about Revolucion is their rack of salsas made in house! Make sure you order chips or try them with your food. Revolucion also has a full bar, including many beers on tap. But they are first and foremost a tequila bar, so all of their signature cocktails are tequila-based (not to say you couldn't order something else). I tried the El Diablo, which is a cocktail containing tequila, ginger beer, and lime. De-lish. I'm on a ginger beer kick, but have never had it with tequila! I definitely recommend it! They also have $2 tequila shot specials most nights, if you're into that sort of thing.
