As usual, the moment I landed in New Orleans, my stomach apparently took over the itinerary and marched me straight to Red Fish Grill. At this point, it's less of a dinner choice and more of a legally binding tradition. I love this place because it's laid-back, consistently great, and somehow always knows exactly what my post-flight soul needs: gumbo and an old-fashioned. Unfortunately, after years of coming here, I've realized I may have been so focused on eating that I've never actually remembered to take a picture before attacking the food. A true professional mistake. Started off with the gumbo, obviously, along with some Brussels sprouts that were crispy enough to make me briefly consider becoming a vegetable person. Absolutely delicious. Dangerous, honestly. For the entrée, I went with the red fish -- because when something works, why introduce chaos into your life? Zero disappointment. The food here is consistently excellent, the service is impeccable, and the old-fashioned did exactly what an old-fashioned is supposed to do after a long flight: convince me I suddenly have no responsibilities. If you're traveling for work, exhausted from airports, delayed boarding, and pretending your carry-on fits in the overhead bin, this is the kind of spot that resets your mood immediately. We ordered some broiled oysters, and their signature cornbread with honey butter. Their cornbread is divine. Don't miss it. We all ended up having eggs, Andouille sausage with grits. The breakfast was good however the waitress team was busy and not as responsive as we would've thought considering they're only four other tables in a 50 table restaurant being served. I hate leaving negative reviews, but our experience at Red Fish Grill was disappointing from start to finish. When we arrived, we were informed that several drink selections were unavailable. While that can happen, it was only the beginning of a series of issues throughout the evening. Our appetizers were brought out at the same time as our entrées, which defeated the purpose of ordering appetizers in the first place. My mother's steak was not cooked to her liking, and although multiple servers and managers stopped by our table to check on us, the service felt disorganized. At one point, my mother ordered a drink through a manager, only to find out later that the order had never been placed. The most frustrating part of the evening involved my father's birthday. Our waiter repeatedly mentioned that he had something special for him and asked if we wanted dessert. We politely declined. Despite that, he later brought out a small cup of ice cream with an extremely tough cone and no spoons. We eventually discovered that we had actually been charged for the ice cream, even though we never ordered it. To top everything off, we noticed a large roach climbing up the wall just inches away from my mother's and fiancée's food. At that point, any remaining confidence we had in the restaurant was gone. I visited Red Fish Grill for a work event and had a blast here! Our group was promptly seated in a private dining area. The servers did an incredible job serving a group of our size with efficiency and care. I was very impressed by how all orders were taken and delivered promptly. For my main dish, I decided to go with the classic- Wood Grilled Redfish with Crabmeat. This dish was absolutely delicious! The redfish was cooked to perfection and the sauce, potatoes, and crabmeat just elevated it. I loved every bite. For desert, I went with the Lemon Doberge Cake. I don't gravitate towards lemon flavors but I decided to take a risk with this one. I'm so glad that I did! I have never had such a delectable lemon cake before! The outside was deliciously sweet which complimented the tart inside so well. I would get this again. Overall, Red Fish Grill gets 5 stars and I highly recommend for big groups! read more

The service was wonderful. I was part of a large group and the staff did a great job caring for us. The gumbo is some of the best I've had! A lovely dark and rich roux. The bbq shrimp was disappointing. Shell on shrimp were very messy to peel covered in sauce and the dish was very oily. The bourbon pecan pie was incredible and their Sazerac is now in my top 3. As many times as I've been to this place, I've yet to write a review. So now it's time. I tend to come here whenever I'm in town and specifically for the BBQ oysters. You can find raw oysters anywhere and chargrilled oysters too but bbq oysters?! Yeah that's rare. And if you're a fan of Bleu cheese, you'll love em even more. To me, it's less bbq and more Buffalo but they're fried oysters drizzled in the buffalo sauce and topped with crumbles of blue cheese. On my most recent visit, the oysters came out a little too quick for me; like less than 5 minutes. I kid you not. I immediately felt like they were for someone else or someone didn't want them. Like, they just weren't hot off of the platter so that's why I took off a Star. If you have room for dessert, I'd highly recommend getting the bread pudding. It's white and dark chocolate; super rich and divine. And there's no raisins which is a major win. It's never busy and service is decent. I ordered a blueberry mojito for a cocktail. Pretty good. The bartender was very generous as well. He let me try an espresso shooter. I would definitely order that. read more

Made reservations and was seated almost immediately on a Friday night. Service was weird - a server brought water, our drink order and bar drinks (a bottle of wine) but then we waited for a long while (10+ min) for our server to introduce himself. We ordered an appetizer for the table and our entries. The "crab fondu" arrived - it was flavorful but the fondu itself was very loose and hard to get on the bread. About an hour passed before our entrees were delivered to the table: * blackened redfish filet - sent back 1) it was cold (both the fish and the veg). Not warm-ish but cold, like it had sat somewhere unattended for 20 minutes 2) it was 3 small pieces of fish, not a filet. * shrimp & avocado po-boy - 1) the shrimp weren't seasoned and the onion aioli was almost non-existent, he asked for more but no one brought it 2) the creole potato salad was just regular potato salad. I tasted like it came from the grocery store * wood grilled redfish with crabmeat - sent back 1) Looked better than the prior redfish as a single filet but again COLD. When the 2 plates of fish were sent back to the kitchen there was no apology from the server. He then basically disappeared - given how long it took to get our initial entries we asked to just have the food removed from the bill (and went down the street to finally get dinner, review coming). Again, our server made no apology or offer to try to make it better. Timing and server quality is a problem and needs to be resolved. We did not enjoy our food or service at this place! My cousin recommended it because he lives here. The gumball was horrible. I could tell they scorched the roux! And once you scorch the roux it ruins the whole pot of gumbo! My husband had jambalaya and it was terrible! A bunch of noodles and barely any meat or shrimp! The waiter lacked charisma. Red Fish Grill is located on Bourbon Street, just off Canal. The restaurant has a distinctly "under the sea vibe" with lots of seafood decor and designs adorning the walls, floor, ceilings, and tables. Overall, the meal here was good. However, the best part of the dining experience was our pleasant server Lachlan, a nice young man with a great smile and warm attitude. I ordered: The Corn and Crab Chowder I did not eat it because unbeknownst to me it had bacon in it. However, the corn to crab ratio was highly disproportionate. BBQ Shrimp (Appetizer) Was very tasty - however calling this BBQ Shrimp is a misnomer if not an outright lie. This is Buffalo Shrimp in a Blue Cheese Dressing. If the server didn't point out the Hot Sauce and Blue Cheese when I was ordering I would've been highly upset when this showed up. Despite the fact that it tastes really really good! Land, Gulf, and Grits Gulf Shrimp & Beef Debris on Smoked Gouda Grits...was good. The shrimp was not seasoned, the roast beef (debris) was tasty, and the grits were creamy but I was hard pressed to taste any cheese let alone gouda. Came for COOLinary 2025. The decor was pretty eclectic and the back room we were in had a lot of political satire cartoons on the wall which were interesting to read. Our waitress was kind and knowledgeable about the menu, and the service was quick and attentive. - Appetizers: alligator sausage & seafood gumbo (well seasoned, did not find it to be super salty as I do some gumbos) and alligator boudin balls that came with pickled bell peppers (couldn't quite tell what alligator tastes like but it was delicious nonetheless) - Entrees: pasta jambalaya (very good flavor but it has a spiciness to it that creeps up on you and gets real intense pretty quickly.. both my bf and I were struggling due to the spice level after a few bites and we later found out it was because everything was cooked with cayenne pepper; wish this came with some additional seafood like shrimp or crawfish instead of just sausage and chicken) & andouille crusted mahi mahi (a little on the bland side compared to the pasta but the different textures of the fish, crabmeat, and succotash went well together) - Dessert: 2 double chocolate bread puddings (wish we were warned about the sizing of these bread puddings because then we would have only ordered one lol this was so DENSE and rich and decadent with the additional layer of white and milk chocolate on top that I could only eat a few bites before I had to tap out.. they offered a scoop of ice cream with it that I think would have helped with the richness but it was for an additional $3 when the bread pudding itself was already an additional $3 read more

Service was great. But the best thing we had were the drinks. It was close to Sanger theater so we opted to go here. Food was ok, needed salt. And small portions for the price on sides. Loved the bourbon side car and cherry limeade with rum. Very clean restrooms, servers were great to give advice on food. Crawfish bread was on a wheat bread. A sourdough might have been better. Temperature was a little on the cool side too. Got their redfish special. Fish was ok. But potatoes needed salt and a it would have been nice to have more sauce. Probably won't go again. The Good: The hosts greeted us warmly when we arrived, and happily accommodated the addition of another individual to our reservation. The Alligator Boudin Balls were the best bites of the evening; extremely flavorful, with a sweet, complex sauce, and accompanying sour/hot peppers, to cut through the richness - delicious! The gumbo was pretty solid as well. The wait staff were very friendly and tried to accommodate us (without asking, they brought us some sharing plates. The okay-to-bad: The rest of the dishes (Crab Dip, Red Fish, & Shrimp/grits) were fine/mediocre; nothing gross or off-putting, but for the price, it just wasn't worth it (especially with how much good food there is in NOLA. The cocktails were okay; the Old Fashioned was decent, but their special lemonade was odd, and somewhat fake tasting)I wouldn't order it again. The service, while friendly, was quite slow; the cocktails were ordered before the main courses arrived, but didn't get delivered until all the food was finished. It was also hard to get a hold of a server when needed (we were given the wrong check, and it took a long time to get the correct bill. In the heart of the French quarter with some many to choose from why this one. Well let me start off by say the Cajun Cochons are a great way to start a meal. This is all the left over pieces of the filets. The was fried just right. I sat at the bar and the service was phenomenal. I was there for an early happy hour and the vibe was definitely bourbon street. Life was teaming everywhere. Then the main course I had the blackened redfish with the crawfish tails on top OMG. or was delicious. Finished off with the chocolate bread pudding.
