The wait staff was very helpful and gave a really good recommendation: the Rex's Omlette. It is one of the best omlettes is have had in the South Bay. The eggs were cooked just right, the mushrooms and spinach accompanied the turkey sausage really well. All this paired with their green salsa was amazing! Their hash browns well done were how I personally like them (very crispy on the outside but fluffy on the inside) and it came with 1 mini (which is full sized for most places) on the side instead of the toast. The only reason Rex's doesn't get 5 stars is that my friends were less than impressed with the coffee. Other than that, our breakfast was really, really good. Rex's is a small quaint cafe in the not so great part of San Pedro (South of Gaffey) but its ambiance inside and the quality of their food more than made up for it. I kept it very simple on this day getting their 9 grain hot cereal and a bowl of seasonal fresh fruit. My friends dishes ranges from the French Connection to Eggs Benedict to Breakfast burrito. My favorite outside of my nine grain and fruit was hands down the French Connection. Rexs version of the Monte Cristo was french toast with ham turkey and swiss covered with fresh fruit...omg! Their home fries were also delicious and not at all greasy. Made with Red potatoes and not fried. Definitely going to return to sample more of their many delicious twists on conventional breakfast fare. Can't wait to sink my teeth into my own order of French Connection! read more

OMG!!! so glad I found this little place yelp is my best friend! after a 2 hour hike by the beach all I kept thinking about is having a delicious breakfast and thanks to yelp, I found it. Took my girlfriend there, we ordered chilaquiles, yogurt with granola and fruits, French toast and pancakes. Everything I must say was made to perfection. The place is definitely a hole in the wall, very tight in space and limited on waitresses but it's all worth it. The fruits were fresh the eggs made to perfection, everything was served nice and warm. You can see the cooks going hard with their cooking skills in the kitchen and I know for a fact they put in all the effort in the world to make my taste buds extra happy!. I love that they brought me honey without having to ask and they have a huge bottle of syrup at the table so need to keep asking for more!. the portions were extra big, tasty and the price was super reasonable. I would say they just need to get a little more organized as far as who the hostess is located and their waiting list but hey like I said, small place, good food, good price so it's all worth it. P.S. parking is NO BUENO on the weekend, theres parking across the street and the walking is perfect before that huge mea,. This place is the best! Came here on a Sunday mid-morning with my family (party of 4 adults and 2 kids) and we maybe waited 15 minutes. The weather was really nice out so we didn't mind waiting at all. We sat and got our drinks ordered. The coffee was amazing! I ordered the Mexican omelet with real chorizo and country potatoes. The portions were big and everything tasted really good. Everything tasted fresh and the green salsa they give you was awesome! Everyone ordered fresh fruit on the side so I got to try those and you could tell it's sliced daily and they use quality products. The waitress was very attentive with drink refills and such. We asked for more coffee and knowing we were leaving she offered to put them in to go cups! Lucky for me my family left 2 of them at my house after they left and I popped them into my refrigerator for iced coffee the next day and man was that super delicious!! Well the food wasn't bad, just a bit overpriced. Other than that the place was noisy.. cafeteria noisy. Our waitress or hostess didn't really smile at ALL during the whole meal. However we did get our food pretty quickly considering how busy they were. But 22 bucks for lunch for two people, for "okay" food, nice decor, and a noisy interior? You can keep it. Unfortunately Pedro is starved for "quaint" places so I guess people flock to this place for it's decor... Honestly,... I was.... underwhelmed. read more

I came here on a Sunday morning and happily waited for 30 minutes. I wasn't in any hurry and additionally, the rest of my party would be roughly 20-30 minutes late. The service was incredibly accommodating and friendly. For the price, you get a very big portion of food per plate. I had the Cabrillo Benedict with hashbrowns, which was pretty good. I also ordered a Mocha latte, which was okay--not the best I've had but still good enough. The waitresses also surprised me with a muffin & birthday candle at the end. It was a very enjoyable and fun experience with friends and I would highly recommend to anyone in the San Pedro area. Parking isn't much of an issue, especially if you try parking near the residential areas. The waiting can be a factor, but if you have time to spare, then you are in for some really good food and customer service. read more

Was pleasantly surprised, as we normally go to another restaurant up the street , but it was closed for vacation.... and we are happy with our choice to go to Rex's. Cute place, with really nice people working there, and they are very attentive. Excellent service and excellent food. I had the Denver omelet and my husband also had an omelet with bacon, spinach, cheese...and they were both awesome. It comes with either fruit, potatoes, and some other choices.
