I went to Rey Sol yesterday for the second time, but it was my first time ordering food/sitting down (the first time I just picked up a coffee). I love how they put coffee ice cubes in the lattes, but yesterday I ordered a dirty chai latte which was just mediocre. It was not very creamy and lacked espresso flavor. I also got avocado toast (without the bacon) and it was pretty standard, but still very good and I would order it again. They give you one-use plastic utensils, which is understandable, but this made eating a very crusty bread quite difficult. The ambiance is nice, although it is a little bit cramped and crowded inside. The table I was sitting at was so small it couldn't fit the two plates and cups we had on it without half of it hanging over the edge. Today I went to Rey Sol with my friend and I have to say the biggest thing that stood out to me is the "photogenic" and the "instagrammable" aspect of this place! It's beautiful inside! The coffees we had were nothing crazy but they weren't bad, they tasted delicious. Something we really loved was that they put coffee cubes in the coffee so it doesn't get watered down! That's amazing. It was expensive for a classic coffee, nothing special for $7. The food menu was very expensive and I felt it was all decor and very small plates! The dishes on the menu looked pretty but a lot of decor and I'm not a huge fan! The coffee was regular! try it, you might like it! Well....it's a cute little place! That's really about it. You get cute little drinks with flower decor and their avocado toast is really good. However, this is NOT A COLOMBIAN CAFE. Three items on the menu, Pan de Bono, Empanadas and palitos de queso (maybe) were Colombian. People were walking in and out thinking they have experienced authentic Colombian food...but NOPE!!! Best cafe in Ridgewood by far. When a place has amazing coffee, I assume they focus on drinks and only serve food to have the option available for people but that's not the case for Rey Sol. They serve restaurant quality food. Amazing service, their staff is always helpful and friendly. If I could give this place 10 stars on here I would. To start .. can we just talk about the aesthetics and how absolutely amazing the decor is inside? It's perfect! Also, this was my first time there and the staff was extremely welcoming and kind. Their iced chai latte was delicious and they had coconut milk - which is such a huge plus as to many places don't. Going to try their coffee next time which Im sure Is just as delicious. For food, I got their avocado toast and let me tell you ..hands down.. the BEST avocado toast I've EVER had, ever. 2.5/5 I know all restaurants are taking a hard hit during Covid, so I don't want to leave a bad review. I had a reservation for me and my parents for inside seating. We had to wait because there was a couple that went over their time slot and we asked every 5 mins if our table was ready. Once seated we were served cold water, but no warning that the water had lemon in it. Lol a warning would have been nice, I just didn't know what I was drinking. The couple seated next to us actually left to go sit outdoors because it was cooler outside... and it's 95 today. We are packed like sardines and seated close to the order pick up station so my mom felt the movement behind her constantly. I wasn't impressed with the food or the coffee. I'm sorry to say, I really did want to like it. The caramel macchiato was 3/10 bland and mostly milk. The atmosphere was chaotic, loud, I probably won't return. A very nice cafe in Ridgewood. The place is aesthetically pleasing and comfy. I appreciate their decor and style. There are few tables and two bar areas with stools. We ordered two drinks - the affogato and the honey lavender latte. Both drinks were delicious. My affogato was strong as it should be. The iced vanilla latte delivered in flavor. It also came with an iced cute bear in the drink. They definitely get an A for presentation of foods and drinks, if you are dining in. For food, my friend and I ordered paninis. Bread was nice and crunchy, and the paninis are loaded so its a good amount of food. The shop was busy - we went on a Thursday afternoon. The service was good. A lot of reviews are complaining, however I appreciate the workers working fast to accommodate customers dining in and taking out. Its important to not whine and cry when a place is so busy! Busy is a good sign. The workers did not even take a break the entire 2 hours we were there. The one thing I did not like was the layout of the shop -- when you walk in, there is one table right in front. I think a simple exchange of the table and the two green floating chairs would be perfect. Otherwise, this a nice cafe for breakfast/lunch or a work spot. Came here for the first time on a cold winter morning with husband and toddler because our usual go to had a 45 minute wait. So glad we ended up here. Service and food was excellent. Place is hip yet charming, on the small side with about a 20 person capacity. We had the avocado toast with salmon and a panini with spinach and mushrooms. Both absolutely delicious. They barely knew how to look up a reservation on the iPad. They had no seats available offered us a window bar seat. No, I requested a table with a chair. They didn't seem concerned.
