Stopped in for takeout. Longtime since I last ate here. Last I remember though the baby backs were fall off the bone tender, same now. But since then I've learned that means the ribs have been steaming too long, and the meat has been cooked past perfect. There wasn't any hint of smoke in them, so it's possible they don't slow cook over hardwood. Don't know, but I definitely love me some smoke! Very light seasoning, not much dry rub, most of the flavor was sauce, which wasn't bad, but no smoky goodness. You should taste smoke in every bite. We had The Chief Executive combo platter meal and the baby back ribs were a bit overcooked and firm but good. The sauce was good on the ribs. The sides were cornbread muffin, fries, and mac n' cheese. The muffin was moist, fluffy, and tender. The fries were good and crisp. The mac n' cheese needed serious help because it was grainy and mushy. That must've been leftovers from the previous day and reheated. There are a few parking spaces (a very few) in the back but they had their trucks loading and that took up all the parking. I made the mistake of ordering through Grubhub. I ordered wings and a garden salad. When my order arrived, I had twice the amount of wings I ordered (wings for days), no salad, and enough cornbread muffins to feed a family of eight. While I appreciate the generosity, I really wanted a salad too. I wanted to be able to tell my doctor that I was eating well and keeping my cholesterol low. Anyway, I complained to Grubhub's nameless and faceless chatbot and somehow was refunded the amount of the salad. While I realize the mix-up may not be the restaurant's fault, I wonder why restaurants in the "Grubhub network" don't police the outgoing orders like mad men/women. It's a brand thing. You put YOUR brand in the hands of someone with a car (not a high bar) who could care less about YOUR Yelp review or YOUR customer experience. I guess that's not MY problem though. As far as the truckload of wings go, they were pretty good. I prefer wings that are cooked a little more (bordering on crispy skin), but they were meaty and the sauce was pretty good too. And as a side note, Grubhub has messed up more than 50% of my orders, so rather than continuing to beat my head against the wall (doctor says that's bad too) I canceled my Grubhub account and deleted the app. read more

Customer service is a negative zero, I got yelled at on the phone for trying to confirm an order that I placed for a large group. The man on the phone said "YOU ARE BOTHERING ME, YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND THE RESTAURANT INDUSTRY I NEED TO GO AND PREP NOW, YOU ARE BOTHERING ME!" Side note - I worked for a restaurant for 6 years all throughout high school & college... I empathize, and I understand the biz inside and out... Also, the first time I called to confirm.. he said he did not have an order from me and hung-up on me.. So you could see why I was concerned and called back to make sure. I am truly saddened with my visit to Ribs USA Today. I have been coming here for around 20 years and unfortunately today will probably be my last. The last time I was hear was about 5 years ago and a lot has changed. I had to wait around 10 min to have the server come out from the back, which seems to be where he likes to go and hide quite often. There were only 2 other tables at the time. When he did help us he was friendly and nice, but you could tell he hasn't been a server for very long. Now for the food, Ribs USA, has in my opinion one of the best beef ribs in So Cal. Which it still does, just serving it cold isn't a good thing. As for the tri-tip, and BBQ chicken i ordered... I wouldn't call it a BBQ place. It's was diner quality. You could tell the tri-tip was precut and just grilled for the marks and the BBQ chicken was cooked on the flat iron. I couldn't eat the Mac and cheese and the coleslaw was ok. But over a truly sad experience. This is no longer a BBQ place. It's a diner with BBQ sauce served on the food. read more

Aye-yie-yie. I wanted to like you, then i hated you, then I liked you again. I went in here solely for the mac and cheese. I heard wonderous things. I ordered rib tips and a side of the mac. Then the manager guy said I should probably order the entree that was $13 and came with two sides, otherwise it would have been $9.95 and $3.99. Cool, I'm down. Got home and there were baked beans in the smallest container known to man. (in Nancy Kerrigan voice) Whhhhhhyyyyyy meeeeeee?????!!!! Whhhhyyyyy anyoooooooone????? The first two steps came upon me, sadness and denial. Then in full 3rd step mode, anger, hopped in my car, slammed the door and put pedal to the metal. I actually never got past anger, good thing I'm not an alcoholic. I swung upon the door upon arrival (it was a swinging door, you know Three's Company style, so no sound came out and it was very anti-climactic) and I slammed my beans on the counter. At this point, this is where Ribs USA lost two stars. The "manager guy" took one look at me and bolted leaving the girl in the hat sweeping to take care of this. What a complete and utter a**wipe. You effing sissy. And ALL of your employees know that you are (he worked Friday night March 27 at 8pm). So to make up for what I know was an honest mistake, they gave me an industrial sized mac and cheese and a whole freakin peach cobbler! I ain't jokin!, nice. That kind of service will bring me back. The rib tips were so tender and tasty, fallin off the bone. The mac and cheese i ate for three days and they look odd but taste like bread crumbs and hash are mixed in them. While waiting for our server we were "entertained" by some loud kids and mom that beat their volume. My poor hot date was quite annoyed. I was seriously indecisive the whole time...what should I get? What to eat? I want everything! Thank goodness for that special time of a female's life that comes every month...it is like an alarm that rings, "EAT EVERYTHING!!" Since I was on a hot date I felt the need to impress him. "I will get the Presidential Platter with collard greens and potato salad, puhlease. Oh yeah, and a Corona for this super cold California winter day." He was like, "A whole slab huh?" Yes siree, I did it. I was very conversational and engaging. I asked him questions, played with his hair, batted my eyes at him, and all the girly perfect date stuff we gals can do. When our server delivered our plates in just a few minutes of flirting, I entered a time warp. No longer did my date exist, but it was all about the meat! The meat! The MEAT! I cut up those baby baby baby back ribs and doused them with barbecue sauce until they were singing, I am drownin and oh my what a delight. Continuing my search for great barbecue in Los Angeles, I went to Ribs USA. Everything was decent here but nothing was exceptional. The ribs were ok, and the chicken was a little better. I think I'm not a big fan of heir sauce. It just doesn't have much flavor. The macaroni and cheese is good, and the naked potato I had with my ribs was good. My friend got "spicy fries" and hey were just fries drenched in hot sauce. They were soggy and weird. I won't be going back. The best places I've found in LA so far are Baby Blues, Kansas City BBQ in North Hollywood, and Mr. Cecils Ribs in Sherman Oaks. read more

Great food but they are thieves! My family of 5 went in for dinner. The service was good and the food was even better even through the cornbread was a bit on the cold side. At the end of the meal the waitress brought us our tab and we paid and left a 25 dollar tip. As we were walking out we realized that the tab was about 30 dollars higher than it should have been. We went back in and asked for an itemized receipt which they should have given us off the back. It turns out that the weasel of a waitress we had tried ripping us off. She added a 30 dollar gratuity tip on a party of 5! on top of the 25 dollar tip we gave her. She was like "damn I got caught" and gave us our 25 dollars back. Nothing but a bunch of con artist! I don't know what type of restaurant hires people who will screw family's over whenever they feel like they can do it. Oh yeah i know, RIBS USA! a true disgrace to their name. To finish it off, the waitress claimed has been working there for 10+ years! So think again about providing business to a place like this. I ordered some St. Louis-style ribs to go the other week. It's very casual and the person who took my order was friendly. I enjoyed the ribs and similiar to other yelpers wish they were falling off the bone a bit more. The BBQ sauce was fairly average. My BBQ preferences lean lean towards more Carolina style with a bit more tang with additional vinegar in the sauce. The sides were alright as well. I got the "dirty" mac and cheese. Again, I prefer mine a bit more wet and a lot more simple. I did enjoy the potato salad. I wouldn't mind coming back if I were back this way. There's plenty of menu items yet to try. Normally I don't write anything bad about any business because everyone deserves to earn a living. Having said that, it's time for this old institution to get with the program or get out of the game. I can abide waiting for a table for great food. I can abide waiting to have my order taken when a restaurant is busy, but I can't stand waiting for less than mediocre food with less than stellar service. So, now let's forget the service and get to the meat of the matter. The best thing on the menu is the cole slaw and corn bread, which is from a mix. The mac and cheese is a glop of overcooked, soft doughy macaroni in a clump of cheese and rather tasteless as was everything else that I ate. The chicken breast, which was huge and moist with a decent succulent wing attached, was by far the better compared to the weakling ribs. There was so much sweet, sticky sauce on the chicken and the ribs, that if anything was BBQ'd, you'd never know it. Yes the baby back ribs were falling off the bone tender, but it would have been nice if they had some flavor. The fries are frozen.... ok, lots of places have frozen fries (as are the sweet potato fries), but once again, no taste... bland, bland, bland. Maybe that's why they offer an onion and cheese topping for the fries as an extra, Then there were the hot wings. They should be ashamed to be serving these. Shriveled little dried out tasteless things, laced with some kind of hot sauce. Whoever is making the food choices here should try the frozen wings at Trader Joe's. I didn't try the fish from the fish and chips, because this is a rib joint, but maybe they would have had more taste than anything that I ate. Bottom line, not great service and not great food. I remember coming here all the time as a kid with my dad, who raised me to be a true barbeque lover. I came here again after a long time with my dad and sister. We ordered Beef Ribs, Pulled Pork, Tri-Tip, Gorilla Fries, Garlic Bread, and Spicy Coleslaw. Ribs were just as amazing as I remember, meaty, tender, perfectly rubbed, and messy. I also really loved the Pulled Pork; very tender, perfect amount of sauce, and flavorful. The Tri-Tip was just ok for me, although both my sister and dad loved it. Garlic bread was good, and my dad and I are obsessed with their cornbread. Let me tell you about that spicy slaw...BEST DAMN SLAW I HAVE EVER HAD! And I don't even like coleslaw all that much to begin with. It's their regular slaw mixed with their spicy BBQ sauce and it is heaven. We took a pint of their BBQ sauce to go as well, it's that good! The prices aren't that bad, a bit pricier than Hogly Wogly's but still decent. People will always complain about something for nothing. The time I went, there was ONE man working the ENTIRE place and it was half full. Some assholes sitting next to us were bitching about how service was slow and blah blah. Seriously? I visited Ribs USA for the first time today. A friend of mine purchased a voucher from Amazon for thirty dollars of restaurant value for Ribs USA. We made the thirty mile drive to check it out. The restaurant looked promising. It's a BBQ joint, nothing fancy and thats the kind of establishment that puts their emphasis on their food. Their menu offers an all you can eat dinner which is perfect for sampling the menu. I ordered baby backs and two types of sausage, hot links and pineapple bacon. My friend ordered the same and between us we ordered two types of slaw, beans, macaroni salad and sweet potato fries. The ribs were okay as was the sausage. I found nothing remarkable to report. The sides were sides, nothing special there. The portions were just fine. The dinner was all you can eat but frankly I can't eat very much. The check came and the trouble began. First they refused to accept the voucher saying that we ordered a special. We ordered from the menu, there was nothing special about it. My friend made a call to amazon and they told her that they would take care the problem. A few moments later one of the staff approached us as accepted the voucher. I paid the balance of the check and I paid for an item we ordered that was not part of the meal. I tipped the server and we made our way out to the street. Just before I got in the car the server came out of the restaurant and told us that the manager changed his mind and that the voucher had already been redeemed. As this was the first time either of us had been there and the voucher was straight off the printer this would have been impossible. Another call to amazon. By that time I was willing to pay anything just to get out of there. My friend was upset and rightfully and I figured a change of scenery would be better than where we were. After a bit of conversation the manager then decided that he wanted to split the difference. We paid and left. It appears that Ribs USA wants all of the marketing benefits of belonging to amazons promotions but doesn't want to honor their end of the agreement with amazon. It is sad that they feel they need to lure clients in. They're food is okay at best. If you live in the valley and you've got a hankering for BBQ visit the Rib Ranch on the west side instead where the food is memorable. Let me preface this by stating that I am a vegetarian. I know, I know. What is a vegetarian doing at Ribs USA? Thanks to my husband's UBER excitement for BBQ and a $5 Restaurant.com coupon, we just couldn't resist going and spending $50 so we could get $25 off our bill :) We arrived early on a Saturday evening and got a great booth that had prime viewing of the games on TV. Usually when we use restaurant.com coupons we get resentment from the waitstaff, resulting in delays and inaccuracies in our orders and attitudes from the wait staff. When we showed our waitress the coupon, she gladly accepted and and said she was happy we were there. "What?" I said. "Aren't you going to give us attitude about using the coupon?" She laughed and said no way. Off to a great start. We threw peanut shells on the floor and ordered what seemed to be nearly one of everything on the menu, including several appetizers, drinks, and a $35 BBQ ensemble meal. As a vegetarian, I had jalapeno poppers, sweet potato fries, a side salad, and all the peanuts and beer I could consume. The guys in my group devoured as much BBQ ribs and chicken as their greasy hands allowed, though were left with more than enough to take home. At the end of the day, our bill was about $70 something, but with our coupon we only paid, with tip, around $50. We also took home enough meat to last 3 more meals (including some bones for my doggie to tear apart afterward)! I left very full and very satisfied. I came here for wings, and that's what I will review. Disregard if you're interested in ribs (which would make more sense). My friend and I came here as part of our quest for the best wings in LA. The wings here were dry, as if they had been cooked and reheated. The sauces were nothing special (weak sauce, if you will (yeah, I went there)) and I can't imagine ever wanting to eat these wings again. Service was friendly and it's hard to gauge efficiency since there was just one server for about 10 tables. Since they are so close to the back lots of Burbank where Happy Days and so many other great shows were made, let me declare that Ribs USA has officially "jumped the shark". I truly pains me to write this, but I think I've been to Ribs USA for the last time. I've been eating at this place for damned near 10 years, but this may have been its last hoorah. Apparently, there has been some change in the ownership (according to the waitress...inattentive, although friendly when she made herself available...) and someone forgot to tell them they to not lose their soul. The essence of what this place ONCE was has been taken away, and the food has tapered off as well. Ribs USA was a hole in the wall BBQ joint with peanut shells on the floor that had good food for a fair price served in a family friendly, down home atmosphere that my kids loved. It was never the best BBQ in Los Angeles, but it was comfortable and when convenient would scratch the itch. But alas, change is inevitable and while change can be embraced when for the better, these are not those kinds of changes. Gone is the barrel of peanuts and self serve baskets. Missing is the charming sound of a BBQ joint where peanut shells adorn the floor and crackle under the tapping of your feet as you listened to some sort of American, soulful music. Instead they've tried to class the joint up a 'lil bit, but in earnest they just missed the mark. *note- the website (if you can call it that) still suggest that you can enjoy a "relaxed atmosphere (where) guests enjoy complimentary peanuts and tossing the shells on the floor" Our Mac n cheese was cold, and had something dark brown peppered in it that resembled mushrooms (it wasn't part of a brown crust from an overdone top...it was...well, we're just not sure...but are hopeful they were mushrooms or maybe scarping from the bottom of the pan...) the ribs did fall off the bone, but they were cold to luke warm and just didn't have the same flavor I remembered them once having. The hot links were warm, at best, and the corn bread muffins were dried out from having been reheated in a microwave. The burger was a pre-made hockey puck patty that just didn't merit its price tag. At least the fries were good...I guess. You'd think on a night when the BCS championship game was on that you could get good BBQ and a cold beer...but it just wasn't to be (I will add, the beer was fine. I just couldn't bring myself to order another one for fear of having to wait another 20 minutes to get the servers attention...) not because they were too busy, but simply because the food and service were poor. This is my first Yelp review, so here goes... If you love BBQ, you have to check this place out! It is by far my favorite BBQ place in LA. Here's a typical meal at Ribs USA: First you walk in. Depending on when you go, you might wait to get a table, you might not. It's not a huge place, so if you go on a weekend evening you may have to wait a little bit, but probably not long. As you walk in the dining room, there is a big barrel of peanuts. Get some peanuts to munch on, throw the shells on the floor (or at your friends as the last reviewer suggested). Once you get seated, check out the menu. So many choices, it's hard to decide. Chicken, fish, pork, beef, salads, burgers, etc. The names are great too. "Shrimp the Pimp", "Glad its Night and the Tips" and "Felix the Catfish" are just a few. I recommend "D's in the House", which is a half chicken with garlic and a spicy BBQ sauce (just the way I like it)! Ok, where was I? I'm getting hungry typing this. The server takes your order (maybe your server is the guy that kind of looks like David Caruso, he's pretty funny). If you want soda, they give you a cup. Serve yourself sodas, which is nice so you don't have to wait for refills if you drink a lot like I do. They also have beer and wine. Shortly after you order, you get cornbread muffins. Great cornbread, melts in your mouth! They're pretty quick making the food, so just a short wait and you're feasting. Good size portions here, and you get sides with the meals. I usually get fries, which are great, but they also have greens, mac & cheese, cole slaw, salad, baked beans, etc. (the typical BBQ sides). They have a couple dessert choices if you're still hungry, but I'm always stuffed after the peanuts, cornbread, entre and sides. Finally, you get a warmed wet wipe to wipe off your BBQ soaked hands! Ribs USA is good gut filling food. Pretty large portions but it is on the pricey side, but its a lot of meat, meat=not cheap. But two people can definitely share some of their combos that have like 4 or 5 different animals on it. This place also has beer and wine, which is a plus while eating bbq. This is for Takeout- I have not eaten in their location. We went yesterday, the 4th of July. They were very very busy and our order took 35 minutes, but hey, that's how holidays go. The guy at the counter was bare minimum polite and seemed overwhelmed. Understandable! I will have to check this place out on a less crazy day to make a real decision. The ribs my friend ordered looks amazing- fall off the bone! I will have to try one next time. I had a pulled pork sandwich that was delicious, though as always, I like to add more sauce than they think is necessary. The BBQ sauce was good- spicy and tangy and sweet. The baked beans were also really tasty. I heard the coleslaw was good, and I'd be curious about the corn bread and garlic toast. My one complaint was the balsamic dressing on my salad was more oil than anything else and didn't taste like much. But the sandwich... SIGH. I dream of it as I hit the gym this evening. read more

So sad to see the food and service decline over the years. About 2 months ago we placed an order for take out, and they gave us the wrong side dishes. We called immediately and the person that helped us remembered us and said he would give us the correct sides the next time we came in. Went today and told the person behind the counter what had happened and he said, "It wasn't me and he's not here today. I'll get your order right." (sides owed from last order still not given) We asked for garlic bread instead of cornbread. When we checked the bag, there was cornbread. "Excuse me, we asked for garlic bread." "NO YOU DIDN'T!" while huffing and puffing to get the replacement. Ribs were tasteless and mediocre at best. I used to recommend this spot to people all the time, now I know better. read more

Ribs USA is down-home bbq that you don't expect to see just a stone's throw away from major Hollywood studios. The exterior reminds me of vintage Americana and when you step inside, its like you're suddenly in the Midwest. Casual, no-frills, peanut shells all over the floor. "Do peanut shells have to happen for a reason?" Sex and the City quote. Yes, I'm a SATC fan AND I love to chow down on ribs. My favorite thing to get here ...ribs. They don't call this place Ribs USA for nothing. It's really good, especially considering you're in Burbank. The Presidential Platter is the best. It comes with your choice of two sides. The cole slaw is good, it has a creamy taste that helps offset the barbecue sauce. Can't go wrong with baked beans either. For those who want something healthy (Hah! While having ribs?) they also have garden salads as side dishes. Service here is great. The staff is very friendly and warm and the food comes out quick. Corn bread and butter are available on request and they come out warm. All drinks are fountain, which means you can get up and refill as often as you want, and if you want to spice it up and switch sodas halfway through your meal, well good news buddy you're in charge so there's no risk of confusing or irritating the waitress. ("What? You want half Diet Coke and half regular coke?") Eating here IS a bit pricey. BBQ isn't cheap anywhere in LA (as far I know! Please hit me up if you know of something good.) Expect to spend around $20-$25 if you're getting ribs. Their other dishes like the pulled pork are a bit cheaper. They also offer combos, for the indecisive (or gluttonous) who want both ribs AND chicken. And hell some pulled pork too. I agree with other Yelpers that parking can be a pain because their lot in the back is tiny. 6 spaces or so. But the beauty of Burbank is free street parking - not a single "parking permit only" sign in sight, bless their soul, so it's really easy to find a spot in the surrounding neighborhood. read more

Ribs are good the rest of the food is mediocre ... Once we sat at our table the waiter didn't acknowledge us and purposely didn't make eye contact so we sat there for a long while without service ... The place isn't that clean there was a bug crawling on our booth ... New management sucks. read more
