Came here yesterday with my boyfriend for my birthday. He was really excited to bring me here , since he loves BBQ and this place got 4.2 stars on google reviews so it seemed like a good place to eat. We drove a whole hour to eat here. We were the only customers there when we were seated. I got the sampler platter, which comes with rib tips, hot wings, onion rings and hot links. My bf got the one rib and two baby back ribs plate. Two minutes after being seated the food came out, which was the first red flag. My bfs plate was incorrect and he was given a quarter of a chicken and half a beef rib,(not what we had ordered) but he ate it anyways because he doesn't like to complain. My sampler trio was disappointing to say the least. The sausage was the one you can buy from Walmart and was hot on the outside and cold on the inside. I was really excited for the hot wings since they are my favourite , but these the worst ones I've ever tried. I could make better ones just buying a bag from Costco and heating it up in the oven. They were rubbery and chewy which made me think they just microwaved everything. We also ordered coleslaw, which was bland with no flavour, and we got a baked potato with corn and I swear they microwaved that too. I know how food looks and tasted when it's cooked fresh vs heated up in the microwave. What a waste of good BBQ...I will not be returning , ever. Oh and when I asked the employee if the food is microwaved he tried to show me that it wasn't but then admitted that they cook it all in the morning and reheat it, saying there is no way they can cook it fresh cause they cook so much food. The BBQ sauce was tasty but that's really all this place had going for it. Not really BBQ as nothing here is smoked. The ribs still had the membrane on the underside, which is never desirable. The hot link tasted like the kind I get at the grocery store. If you're not really into BBQ, then you will probably get along fine here. Pretty terrible. Wife and I went tonight (a Monday), only us and one other couple in the place. Server was friendly enough, though we saw little of him and had to go to the take-out register to pay, server couldn't be found to pay bill. Food was not hot, just warm; surprising since we only waited about six minutes between ordering and being served. We ordered the "Bob's World" to get a taste of numerous menu items. Where to start? All the meat was dried out and chewy. The chicken was way overcooked, very little meat on the beef ribs, the baby backs were VERY dry, and the hot links were the worst, tasting a little like dog food. We ordered the mac and cheese (which was actually mac and butter and bread crumbs; cheese had never been invited to that dish), potato salad and coleslaw as sides. The slaw and salad were just ok; unspectacular, but edible enough. I swear the corn muffins that came with were out of a Jiffy box. What we ordered could have served 3-4, sure; but we didn't even take the left overs home. Just not worth reheating for lunch. What makes this terrible rather than just meh is the price. Our bill came to just under $61. Had it been half that, it would have reflected the value of the quality of what we were served, and that would have been fine. But this restaurant is operating with the mind set of doing the absolute bare minimum. The premises shows it, too. I'm ok with second and third hand furnishings and utensils in a place, rough walls and shoddy decor, if they put the money they save on frills and whistles back into the quality of the food. I've been in here multiple times and whenever I have the ribs theyve been fantastic- why all the bad reviews!? I've heard the waiters ask other customers how they like the food as well, and no one I've seen has been disappointed, so if I were you, please don't read into these nasty reviews. Try it for yourself, and for goodness sakes, write a good review if you like it! I want this place around for my BBQ craving! LOL! What can I say? The food here is pretty good, but since new ownership came in, the place is going downhill. We went on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. Got there around 2:30 and there were two families eating already. We walked in after a man and his adult son. We ended up ordering about 5 minutes before them and 15 minutes before another couple that came in ten minutes after we arrived. The father/son duo had the 'Bob's World' and the couple had ribs and chicken. My son had ribs, I had BBQ chicken and my wife had potato skins. My wife said the potato skins were extremely greasy. Everything else was pretty good...aside from the service! The waiter was very attentive to the father/son, asked the couple once if they needed anything and never bothered to ask or check on us until bringing the bill. When the father/son left, the owner made it a point to yell across the room, "Thank you for coming. Come again." Everyone else that left was ignored. Maybe we didn't spend enough $. I've been coming here for 18 years and will NOT be returning unless ownership changes and the staff know how to serve customers. I won't drive 30 minutes to a restaurant to get bad service. Went here for the first time a few days ago and ordered the Tri-Tip beef sandwich and a side of slaw. i waited nearly 20 minutes to get my sandwich, and there was a total of 4 or 5 patrons in there already eating. don't know what the hold up was. anyway, the sandwich was completely ordinary. nothing special about it. on top of that, it was a little dry. the slaw was good though. the tri-tip at Wood Ranch blows this place out of the water...can't even compare them. i'll try this place one more time for the ribs, but honestly i'm not expecting too much. read more

This place has gone down hill. I am assuming there is new owners. When I lived in Burbank years ago I loved this spot. They had great lunch specials and the ribs were delish. My last experience was terrible. First you had to order at the front then go sit at the table sort of panaera style, not a big deal but it took me as suprize as there use to be wait service. You no longer throw peanuts on the floor but they give you a basket for the shells. This was a fun thing for the niece and nephew before. And the worst part, the food was terrible. Ribs were nothing but fat and you could tell they been cooked and reheated numerous times with globs of bbq sauce to cover the dryness. Coleslaw was bland and the cornbread was so dry I couldnt even choke it down. Back in the day I use to order extra cornbread to go for my breakfast the next morning. My BF loves this place, me, not so much love but like. I am a sandwich girl when it comes to BBQ... a beef brisket sandwich girl! Ribs USA sandwich is dry. You think they would put some sauce on the side so my mouth is not parched but they don't. They charge you for it. I love the potato salad, the baked beans are good, collard greens are good also. Pretty much their sides are great. But the brisket sandwich... not so great. I have also had the beef ribs, those are yummy! The catfish is also good but it is no Uncle Andre's that's for sure. Hamburgers are great and smokey but the fries are nothing to write home about. Chicken has it's good and bad days, mostly good. The hot links are tangy and have that perfect snap! This place isn't what it was twenty years ago (like my dad's), but every time I've visited recently, the ribs ere tender and tasty. They weren't smoky like I really like, but they were good. Rib tips were good too, as was the rice pilaf and corn on the cob. Owner has always been caring and pleasant to me and my other half. Waited about 15 minutes for the order. Not bad at all. Kind of mediocre and expensive. I got a half-slab of ribs for $18, and it was nothing to really go back for. Honestly, my mom makes better bbq ribs. What makes that comment relevant is that my mom is not american, she's not from the south, and she doesn't really bbq. I've had better ribs at the local Hof's Hut or the local Chili's. The ribs here were tough and not that tastey. The two sides weren't anything special either. So-so mac and cheese, and beans that probably came from a can. The baby back ribs evoked flavors of being previously frozen, slightly freezer-burned and partially microwaved with no hint of rub or smoke. That first bite instantly triggered a flashback of me eating a Kid Cuisine BBQ "ribs" meal 15 years ago while watching Beakman's World. Sadly, the meat didn't fall off the bone and I felt as if I was biting into a twine of hemp rope. As for the sides, the collard greens was simply amazing but the cole slaw, fries, and cornbread were what rappers today call "blazand". The service was fair, the peanuts were stale, and I cannot see myself coming back. Silver Lining: Cool thing happened while we were eating, this young guy from the next table comes by and hands us a $5 off coupon. What a nice young man. That $5 I saved will go to feed my habit. Ribs USA has gone from from outstanding to "not all that" in a precipitous slide that does not bode either for its future nor the stomach linings of the final few patrons on the day their doors close for good. The first casualty was the mac n' cheese, a casserole of yummy goodness so legendary that I would sometimes drive there just to grab a quart container of the stuff. This wasn't mere cheese and pasta, there was ham in it, and a panko crust that elevated it far above the norm. But now it's just a distant memory. You'd be better off with a box of Amy's. Uncooked, even. i don't mean to be so cruel, but cutting corners on that mac n cheese was just plain bad business. You can still get the corn muffin, but you have to ask for it. Lame. Last time we ate there, the barbecue itself was fine. Same large portions. The servers have always been very good. No problem there. Whatever systemic problems exist are no fault of theirs. The barrel of free peanuts was gone. You have to ask for them. Lame.. These are subtle changes, but they affect the overall ambiance of the establishment. A customer expects a certain experience. When you are spending $100 (dinner for two, pitcher of beer, tip) you want a better experience than you can have at home for a fraction of the price. Speaking of prices, They were always high, for a divey place with a horrible restroom. Back then, it was worth it, because the food was just so good. When the previous owners sold the place, they took the soul of it with them. The fun vibe is gone. It's just not the same. Perhaps if I were going there for the first time...umm no. Even the first-timers here were turned off, based on their reviews. It's funny, I look at the reviews and it's the opposite of what I feel. Great service, great food, great place. I used to come here a lot. Now I ask why I hadn't been back in so long. Party of three we ordered the good choice. So delicious, and so filling. Granted I only come here for the beef ribs, but everything cane out great. Now we got left overs, and can't wait till I'm hungry again. The last thing I ordered was the peach cobbler. Please take note, im not a fan of peach. But this changed me. Ribs USA's lunch specials might be the best bargains in the Valley. They're all $10 and under! They come with a side (all of which are tasty), and a really fresh salad (if you eat in). I usually get the half barbecue chicken (which is always very juicy, even the white meat), but I've really enjoyed everything I've ever ordered there. It's a lot of food, so on top of a very satisfying lunch, you often have leftovers. I once brought the thigh and leg home and left it out of my sight on the kitchen counter just long enough for my roommate's cat to fully skeletonize it, like a piranha. Went here due to a groupon I purchased. Wouldn't go back unless I had another groupon (or something similar). Apparently, my BF used to go here a lot, but hasn't been in awhile. I wonder why.... We had pulled pork, trip tip, mac and cheese, and garlic potatoes. The meat was cooked just fine - it's the BBQ sauce that I'm not the biggest fan of. It's too salty/tangy in my opinion. The mac and cheese was lame. It lacked flavor and I prefer Kraft to this sad excuse for mac and cheese. The garlic potatoes was delicious though! Driving by this place quite frequently, I've always wanted to give it a shot. Get a groupon for and bang -- here we go ... or don't. Upon sitting at our table we find out that our groupon isn't valid on Holidays. Low and behold the day we choose to dine is Father's Day. Now while I would question in some regards the magnitude of Father's Day on the Holiday scale, I can understand where Dad's would want to go out for some BBQ. So while disappointed we can't use our groupon, I understand. However what I can't understand or get over is the fact they are out of our top three choices for meals. I get it that it's a big day, but prepare for it. No reason to be out of beef ribs or the rib tips. Prepare for the onslaught of Father's people! The food we did go with was okay. I like the smokiness on meat that I got, however the sauce was way too sweet for my liking. Our server was good. I have eaten here a few times and it is a tradition to order for Super Bowl. So, 24 hours in advance I placed my order. Received an email that the food would be ready by 3PM. I was there at 3. No food. 3:15, 3:30, 3:45 - no food. Each time being told it would be right out. An hour later I finally got it...and it had been sitting up on their rack!!!!! When I complained, the answer was "Look, it's still hot"!!! Food is mediocre but the bad taste the waiting left in my mouth made it horrible. This used to be my favorite restaurant when I lived in Burbank from 2006-2009. I finally got the chance to go back to Ribs USA yesterday and was extremely disappointed how much it has declined and the sweet cornbread isn't there either. It doesn't even feel like the same restaurant either. The owners have changed and as you can see on many of the reviews here, it has not been an improvement. The food borders on bland and bad. So we have almost decided on Ribs USA on Google maps and Eat24/Yelp quite a few times but we always had second thoughts because of the mediocre review ratings until we passed by the place the Saturday before 4th of July. We got the pulled pork with fries and mac n' cheese and the pulled chicken and tri-tip with garlic potato and BBQ beans. Suffice to say, we came back the next day to load up for the 4th in case they were closed. We got a pound of pulled pork, half rack of baby back ribs, and half order of chicken. First, the not so good: The tri-tip had great flavor, but was a bit tough and slightly dry. The garlic potato was okay, but was a tinge too much garlic. Now the WOW: Everything else, ESPECIALLY the sauce and the BBQ beans. It's one of those flavors that linger long after the last bite and keeps you craving for more until you're groaning with the white flag and a tummy ache. The pulled pork was exceptionally tender and moist. The chicken was about the same. We had withheld writing a review until we had the ribs the next day. It was one of those moist, fall off the bone type of ribs. Let's not forget the warm, sweet, moist freshly baked cornbread. As for the staff, the manager/owner (at least he seemed like the manager/owner) greeted us with a smile and was very happy to see us the next day when we gave him our shining review of his BBQ. In a nutshell, don't fully believe the reviews until you've had a chance to taste it for yourself. In our honest opinion... if you're a big fan of Famous Dave's and don't feel like driving out to Ventura or San Bernardino County, this place comes pretty damn close. UPDATE: We decided to give the tri-tip another try. Perhaps my previous review was the defining factor, but the tri-tip this time around is PERFECTION. Soooo tender and really moist. I was in the neighborhood and remembered Ribs USA.. It has been awhile. I live about 30 minutes away.. I walked in and was greeted by a lovely young woman.. I placed my order to go and sat down and enjoyed a soda... my order was ready pretty quickly.. I couldn't wait to get home my car smelled like heaven all the way home.. The online reviews said this place was "POOR TO FAIR" and and they were RIGHT. The drinks were served in paper to-go cups and we had to get them ourselves like we were at McDonald's. We ordered ribs and pulled pork. They were OUT OF baked beans and OUT OF mac & cheese so we had to go down the list of sides until we found something that was actually in stock. When our meat was served it came out on a half-empty, plastic plate with none of the side dishes we ordered. It looked sad. We asked for our side dishes and got them ONE BY ONE several minutes apart. The fries were OK, but the veggies were cafeteria style and overcooked. The garlic bread arrived last and was the worst garlic bread I've ever had; flat, cold, partially black and tasteless. The whole dinner took more than 90 minutes! After all that, they didn't want to honor our Living Social coupon because they said it was a holiday. I insisted they accept it because I don't consider "Hallmark" holidays real holidays. Plus, we did not intend on eating there ever again. Our waitress was nice and took the coupon because of the bad experience we had. She was apologizing throughout the whole night and was embarrassed that the food service was so bad. Ever feel excited for something that everyone else is eating, even though you were there first in line? Well that was me tonight here at Ribs USA. Usually they're very good about service and food, but tonight the service was lacking and it wasn't event that crazy. My wife and I had a hankering for some BBQ and even though the service wasn't up to par tonight the food pretty good (cold pulled pork, bread and wings). Apparently this was the third complaint today and we were just another part of the collateral damage in the grand scheme of the dining room. The reason for a 2 star is that the waitress' (even though they're polite) acted like nothing was wrong. We sat there with our drinks for 40 minutes while we watched a couple, a group of 8 and a group of 4 all get their food before us. One of the gentlemen, who I see every time who works the to go counter, was the only one who seemed like they realized that we were neglected. After our meal we had realized we didn't get hand wipes, we asked for some and the gentleman and the manager gave us a coupon, but their wait staff need to brush up on their SOPs about figuring out table orders and guest management. Service is great. Is there parking in the back? Not sure, but we found free street parking right in front, so we're all good. To-Go section is separated from the dine-in, so walk your fanny on over to the restaurant-section if you want to eat there. Specials are a steal. Groupon wasn't half bad either. LOVED the pulled pork. Rip Tips were different from what we're used to seeing / ordering, substantially bigger, but just as good. Ribs were alright, but I think I'd definitely stick to the pulled meats & the rib tips next time. Mac n cheese was pleasantly mellow, not the over sharp mac n cheese's we've been running into at some BBQ joints lately. Corn muffin is more of a muffin than bread (just in case you were thinking otherwise), with a light taste & flavor (in a good way). Gorilla fries are a lot like INO's animal style, we were too full to eat them though, and the Spicy fries are doused with Buffalo Sauce ... something different, and alright, but not sure if I'd get again. TV's up all over the place, hopefully they play the Laker games so we can watch here instead. The place is a bit old and can probably use a makeover, but hey, who's watchin', right? Overall, it was not one of the more memorable BBQ experiences I have had. Let me be honest. The food was good. Maybe even above average. But it wasn't GREAT. I'm still on the hunt for "the" barbecue spot in LA. It seems like every time I watch Man vs. Food there are a million in other cities and states, but alas none in Burbank yet... So the food was a 3-star experience. What gives? Well, this was a strange service experience. At first the waitress was kind of rude. (I was also miffed because although the restaurant was only 1/2 full it took her a good 10 minutes to visit our table or take our orders. Every time we asked a passing waitress or busboy where our waitress was, we were met with similar rudeness.) Maybe just rushed, maybe just tired. Then she suddenly became freakishly friendly. I mean, she was just over the top, overly loud, and scaring me. The kind of friendliness that seemed to be rooted in sarcasm, and that made me worry. The ribs don't taste smoky or barbecued at all. While the white meat chicken was moist, incredibly the dark meat portion was dry and almost in edible. The sauce is not great. The mashed potatoes are terrible. The coleslaw was fair. I would not go back here nor would I recommend it. read more

I can't believe how many good reviews this place has. I had a Groupon and went to Ribs USA yesterday for lunch and it was horrible. I ordered a pulled chicken sandwich for lunch and a junior portion of the tri-tip to go for dinner later than night. I asked how the mac& cheese was and the waitress told me it was excellent so I ordered a side with my sandwich and with the tri-tip to go. Despite my asking the waitress about and ordering the mac & cheese, when my pulled chicken sandwich arrived it came with cole slaw. When I pointed out the mistake the waitress told me I was right (duh!) and went and got me the right side. They when I took a bite of it, the mac & cheese was ice cold and basically just tasted like elbow macaroni in milk. Hands down the worst mac & cheese I have ever had and that is not an exaggeration. I can't believe the waitress said it was excellent. The sandwich wasn't any better. It was a average amount of tough pieces of chicken with very little BBQ sauce. I asked for more sauce but it didn't help much because the sauce seems to be watered down. Any generic BBQ sauce that you get from the grocery store would be better. Making matters worse, there were still bones in the chicken and I almost choked on one. I left extremely unsatisfied, but with dinner in hand so I could give them a second chance that night. The tri-tip was okay. Nothing to write home about, but not bad. Luckily I had some cheddar cheese at home to add the mac & cheese side so that was better than what I had in the restaurant. Ribs USA was once the shiz-nit back in 1995, when they had the all-you-can-eat chicken wings and cheap pitchers of Bud Light on Monday Nights. There literally was a line out-the-door onto Olive with people trying to get in...in fact, people would leave work early to get seated before 5pm. But, over the years, with a succession of owners, things have gradually gone downhill. The wings got smaller while the prices stayed high. The owners started charging for extra ranch dressing. They locked the peanuts up behind the counter because too many people were eating them? The whole purpose of giving out peanuts is to increase beer and drink sales by the people eating them before ordering! Anyway, I have been coming here several times a month for over 15 years, but due to the number of mistakes on take-out orders and general decline-of-quality recently, that will be coming to an end. No wonder Buffalo Wild Wings always has a line out the door downtown. read more

I don't know why I do it to myself. I get my stomach set on BBQ knowing damn well SoCal does not have the BBQ I'm looking for. I'm looking for BBQ so good you could only find it in the South. Well Ribs USA happened to be close to my accountants office and I happened to be having a craving. Bad idea. The food was decent, but holy crap was it overpriced! I had a pulled pork sandwich, a side of cole slaw and paid $14? I just almost canceled my order to walk to the deli down the street, but decided to just deal with it in hopes that the BBQ would be worth it. Of course... it wasn't. Lesson learned. read more
