Any place that provides free chips for bfast automatically gets 4 stars from me, but the rest of the meal was well deserving too. So much Mexican goodness to choose from here, but ultimately settled on the eggs, chorizo, lots of veggies & breakfast potatoes (among other goodness in there). Yum! It was tough not to devour it all, but basically impossible after filling up on all those chips. The service was fast, especially for our large party of 7. It helped there weren't many other tables in the restaurant. I imagine it gets more crowded on the weekends, but this food would be worth waiting for. read more

Hit the spot. Like Danny W., I saw the Mexican consulate a block away and had high hopes...please, please please let this be good. And it was! It's a small little restaurant, clean, with good service. I was in the mood for mexican food but not that overly cheesy, crap drunk food. I went with the breakfast burrito. Amazing. The zucchini was the perfect filling to keep my conscience clear - maybe that giant burrito was just a tad bit healthy? My friend had the tortilla soup which I took a bite of..delicious! The price point is what you'd expect from a nicer sit down Mexican food joint - $10-15 a plate. Not great, not bad. I can't wait to come back. read more

I often forget about how much I enjoy Angel's because it is not near me. I can be an "out of sight, out of mind" kind of girl , and Angel's is never in sight as it is so far from my hood. However, I woke up recently and had a craving for French toast and Angel's immediately came to mind. French toast? At a Mexican restaurant? Yes, its delicious and I woke up needing it. So I : 1. Officially woke up and completely opened my eyes. 2. Got out of bed. 3. Brushed my teeth. 4. Put on lots of clothes. Its cold. 4. Hauled it to Angels. 5. Ate delicious french toast,chilaquiles., eggs, tortillas, and grilled veggies. 6. Went home and took a nap, quite proud of myself for my brunch accomplishments. It was glorious, and I can't go so long between visits next time. read more

O. M. Local Guide·25 reviews NEW If I could give this place zero stars I would! Just based on morality alone! I've come to this restaurant 9 times with business partners and colleagues but never with my family. Yesterday I decided that it would be a great idea to bring my family in for dinner between 4 or 5pm. My wife went ahead of us because my five year old daughter has problems with her kidneys and she had to urinate immediately but before we could even get out of our cars, (three carloads of hungry people) my wife comes back out upset saying that she asked if my daughter could use the washroom and they declined to let her use their facilities. My wife even told them just let my daughter use the washroom and we'll order but they still declined saying that it was their policy that she order first! Policy? Really? So my wife came back to where we were all parked, just down the street from the restaurant and opened the rear door to my truck and in a humiliating act of desperation, my 5 year old daughter had to squat and urinate right off the curb on Ashland Ave. I've since shared yesterday's events with everyone at my firm. Naturally they were shocked and now Ricanos, They've just lost over 57 customers and about 10 potential customers based on their moral judgment. Do not come to this restaurant in search of help of any kind, even if it's an emergency and you're having a heart attack, go elsewhere because you'd have to order something before they'd extend a helping hand. Whatever happened with being selfless towards the next person? We will never ever set foot in here again. Keep in mind that if they treated a 5 year old little girl this way, imagine how they'd treat anyone else. We've spent hundreds of dollars at this restaurant only to get treated in such an awfully disrespectful manner? It's unbelievable! Regardless, we went up to a Mexican restaurant called Huentitan located on North Ave and Pulaski. They took care of 23 individual orders with ease and the quality of the food was 10x's better than Ricanos. Food: 1/5 | Service: 1/5 | Atmosphere: 1/5 Kid-friendliness There isn't ANY kid friendliness whatsoever! My 5 year old daughter had to use the washroom because of a medical issue with her kidneys and they told my wife that she had to order first before my daughter could be allowed to use their facilities! My daughter, humiliatingly had to urinate right off of the curb on Ashland Ave. Due to Ricano's " policy " they should have a policy on how they treat faithful, returning customers and another on morality towards their fellow human beings! read more

"Send me an angel, send me an angel, right now, right now..." Send me to Angel's, send me to Angel's right now for the Angel's Ultimate Eggs scrambled eggs, chorizo, green pepper, onion, mushroom, queso chihuahua and breakfast potatoes. Yum! I don't make it to the city much now that I've moved to the North Shore, but I used to pass by this place and always thought it was adorable. Thankfully a work get together brought me here, and it was a fantastic experience all the way around. First my coffee was delicious and consistently topped off. The service was really terrific. The salsa was spicy and came in a large bowl with homemade chips. Though it was a tad cold in there, since they forgot to turn the space heater on behind us, that didn't keep me from enjoying my breakfast. Accompanied by a side salad (with the good lettuce) and crispy potatoes (not greasy), my eggs were beyond fluffy, cheesy, loaded with chorizo and veggies. I can taste them right now as I'm writing this and so wishing they were sitting in front of me. Light and not greasy. Though I was full I kept going until I wanted to burst. Worth every bite. Super clean restaurant, even the men's bathroom. Yes, I went in the men's. One of the waiters said I could since someone was in the other one. I thought no way in a million years would I step foot in there. But, there was no other option, and you know what? It was really clean! I mean not guy clean either (ha)! All in all a perfect experience all the way around. If I lived in this neighborhood I would stop by on a regular basis. A big shout out to my colleague who selected this stop. Great call! read more

This is the Andersonville transplant that my wife and I missed for years. We did a search for "Mexican Sunday Brunch" and this place popped-up in Yelp. We were not disappointed. Street parking is everywhere; and there was no wait! We dined on Tortilla Soup and Huevos con Chorizo. Our meals were excellent! We highly recommend the Tortilla Soup. The decor was very fun as well, there were 3 paintings that I would consider purchasing- a Dia de Muerta painting, a Las Luchadores painting and some commercial tequila art. 5 stars, we will be going back to our old transplanted favorite. read more

Thank you Pedro and family for helping me throw a great party! When I was trying to figure out where we could have a surprise party for my mother I considered Angel's, but then I thought about trying somewhere my mom hadn't been. Well, I thought it over some more and decided I really wanted it here. My mom's better half called and spoke with Pedro about possibly renting out the restaurant when we found out they close at 4 anyhow. PERFECT! I wasn't sure how many people to expect (because I figured people would back out closer to the date), but we ended up with about 26 people. This restaurant worked out perfect. I stopped by one day to talk about the menu and wish I hadn't, because the 2-week wait seemed like forever! Here's what we had: - milanesa (though not your typical milanesa, but I liked it, especially re-heated) - carne asada (maybe with onions? I don't recall...all I know is my friend took home the leftovers but ended up eating most of it at the bar) - pork (this was so tender and so delicious and apparently a hit because there was nothing leftover!) - veggies (think fajitas..but better) - white rice (with cilantro and lime...if I recall correctly) - black beans - tortilla soup!! - beef empanadas (appetizer) - flautas (appetizer) - veggie quesadillas (appetizer) - crab cakes (appetizer)........and so far the ONLY crab cakes I've ever liked! We had a lot of food, but we wanted to make sure there was something for everyone (considering there were 4 vegetarians). Now, as if the food wasn't good enough, the margaritas were perfect! Though I'm convinced they got stronger as the night went on. What really got me though was that Pedro had previously said I could bring whatever I wanted and we'd find a way to decorate. The day of the party I ended up buying 24 balloons and realized there was no way I could leave those in my car, so I called and asked if I could drop them off early. "Of course!" I arrived and found the tables had already been arranged and my balloons were set up! I wasn't even sure what I would do with them, but they ended up putting them in groups of 4 and placing them strategically around the restaurant. His niece helped me hang up a "Happy Birthday" sign and my aunt helped with some streamer-like things. When it came time for the pinata, he and one of the other guys ended up holding up and swinging it so people could take a shot at it. Leave it to me to bring a pinata but not think it all the way through.... My mom was surprised, the party was a success and the food was great! It's owners like these that keep me coming back. Holy Amazing Beans. Why else this gem merits a five star review: --no wait on a Sunday morning at 11 am --easy parking --friendly service Yeah, that only gets you to a 3. The food is what makes this the only restaurant I would visit twice in Chicago. I had the breakfast burrito with the aforementioned amazing beans. The only-ONLY-thing I would change on the burrito is to skip the bell peppers; they were still crunchy so they threw off the texture. Otherwise, it was a cheesy, avocado-y, giant sized mass of awesomeness. He had the chorizo egg scrambler with corn tortillas and it was delicious as well. I'm not a huge chorizo fan, but this was done perfectly. Loved that they brought a whole batch of tortillas, too. The highlight for me, though, was the order of banana pancakes we started with. They were a work of art, honestly, and so, so delicious. A restaurant that can deliver fabulous mexican cuisine AND spectacular standard fare is a rare find indeed. One that perfectly executes all that food plus coffee and a soda for less than $35? That's a rare find sitting on top of a unicorn, my friends. Eat here. read more

This place is not what I expected look wise...it is a bit hidden on Ashland....not much around there so I found meter parking in front (tons of metered parking on that block). I expected a bigfast-paced place...but instead it was a little relaxing spot. Right away you can see the Mexican influence from the decor and the smell of goodies. Seating is small...but since it wasn't busy that Saturday morning we sat right by the window. Service was a bit slow but our waitress was extremely friendly and we weren't in a hurry anyways. Perfect breakfast place to chit chat actually. I ordered mole chilaquiles and WOW what a huge portion....soo good I ate most of it. I couldn't breathe afterwards. The Mole was perfect too...not too bland or too spicy. I also ordered regular coffee and for a regular cup of coffee it was good and strong...just how I like it. Overall this place is not fancy...not super busy...not my typical brunch place...but the food is good and I just love mexican breakfast (they also have classic breakfast choices!) read more

I decided to play Yelp Roulette as I was driving out of town. Searched local restaurants and randomly put my finger on this one. I kind of feel like I won the lottery. Two things I love: Mexican and breakfast. Put that together? I'm in love. I was seated right away with a very friendly waitress. Food arrived quickly. The only thing that took a long time was myself trying to pick what to eat, everything sounded great. A wide selection of egg variations and some pancake options that I wish I had room in my tummy for. Being someone who grew up in Arizona I am very picky with Mexican. It's hard to find a place that is authentic to the culture with truly fresh ingredients. Usually you pick one or the other. Too many American rip offs that just can't pull it all together. As for Angel's, they nailed it. Not to mention they had beautiful Day of the Dead artwork on the walls. Somehow in the middle of the country I feel right at home. read more

We just happened upon this little restaurant on our way to the United Center and so glad we stopped in. Salsa was just like my Tia used to make and the queso & corn tortillas were incredible! I had the Pastor Tostado and my hubby had burrito bowl and we were both in heaven. Check our this great little place, you won't be sorry! read more

I'm split on this place and think they deserve more of a 3.5. The food we had here was pretty good but nothing exceptional. There is one very cool dish called the Molcajete which comes in this huge stone bowl and is made with cactus but the thing stays hot FOREVER so it's pretty impossible to eat. Other than that, everything is pretty mediocre. The prices are good, the service could use some help, and so could the ambiance. My waitress overcharged us for drinks and then gave me some B.S. excuse as to why she did it so I probably won't be returning. read more

I have often driven by, and finally took the opportunity this weekend to stop in and give the place a shot. My boyfriend and I are early birds and got here at 8am-ish to have breakfast as it seems some other breakfast spots don't open until 9am or 10am for brunch. It was nice that it wasn't crowded, and the service was friendly. The portions are huge here. The pancakes felt like they were plate sized and they were tasty. I had the Angel's Ultimate Egg, which was very unique and delicious. The prices were just right, and it's great to have a place in your back pocket if you don't want to wait in line for breakfast. read more

It was a beautiful Saturday morning, so we decided to put the pedal down and head to Angel's for a much anticipated breakfast featuring Chilaquiles! The future was bright...and so was the sun beaming through the storefront as we entered. A staff person greeted us with a cheerful "Good Morning" however her presence was immediately secondary upon viewing a contrast of deeply colored walls, white table cloths and vivid "Day Of The Dead" framed paintings throughout the restaurant. We had all the tables to choose from, they had just opened, it was 8 A.M. Its a small joint, maybe a dozen tables and a small bar. We walked around for a few minutes like we are V.I.P's deciding were to sit, Ha! We finally decided to park our butts at a window seat overlooking a busy sidewalk. It was a classic people watching experience...they watched us...we watched them! And then our food arrived quickly. I ordered the beef enchilada lunch size portion which was more than ample for a breakfast hoping to avoid a later day food coma. I was impressed, they had no problem topping the order with a divided blend of tomatillo and mole sauce. The taste and depth of flavor was a winning combination! Not so much for the for the Chilaquiles, primarily for the lack of combination. Better yet, this particular order was out of proportion. I am not a numbers person, but a Foodie recognizes that Chilaquilas should not be 90% tortillas and 10% shredded eggs and sauce...or no sauce, just cheese! I kind of like the place and we did not complain. Maybe the chef had a bad morning! Or maybe our server should have picked up on this as well. She took the order. Just disrespectful to be so good. I find it fascinating I never reviewed this place. Maybe it was selfishness because I don't want it to get over-crowded..as I usually don't have to wait to be seated.. maybe it's because I don't want them to run out of freshly prepared margaritas.. maybe because...maybe because I didn't wanna?! Anywho, this place is DELICIOUS. the Sopa de Tortilla, Shrimp Tacos, Salsa, enchiladas, salads, etc. are pretty tasty AND the portion sizes are quite generous. But be careful with starters as you may be too full by the time your food arrives. The service definitely takes this place to the next level. They were way shorthanded but everyone, regardless if you worked in the kitchen or owned the place, jumped in to help to make sure everyone was taken care of. And weren't annoyed doing it! I've had this bookmarked since seeing all the great reviews. Walking in, it wasn't too big, but bigger than I envisioned. No patio that day since it rained, but I would like check it out next time. There was only 2 tables there. We chose a table and the lady brought us the menus. Chilaquiles - We got this with the green sauce. My first time trying this and was curious since I've seen so many raving about this. I only had a little and don't think I'm a big fan of it. Granted, I'm not a big breakfast eater. Carne Asada - I thought this was a bit tough and overcooked. Molcajete with Chicken - This was very good. Don't wear white or clothes you care about if you order this. It will splatter. I would order this again. I loved the art work on the walls that were for sale. Too pricey for me, but I thought they looked cool. Overall, I thought it was pretty good and would come back to try some other items and hopefully the patio. read more

Stayed at The Acme Hotel and used Yelp's recommendation for best reviews close by to discover Angel's. I read others reviews and I laughed at the one mentioning the Mexican Consulate in close proximity because I too noticed :) The location is a little West from tourist picks, so right away I LOVED - no one wants to wait for Sunday brunch! We were immediately sat and our server was right there to assist. This was first time and I took our servers recommendation for Angel's signature dish - included eggs, roasted veggies, chorizo, tomatoes, and chihuahua cheese w/ side of roasted potatoes and choice of tortillas or toast. MASSIVE portions so expect to take home at least half! Side Order-Would recommend requesting their hot salsa and their verde sauce - combine the 2 and pour over the top of dish-would only do if you prefer hot/spicy meals (it isn't overly spicy or too hot-adds just the right amount of heat for flavor) My brunch date ordered an egg dish (not signature) and hers was equal to the portion of mine. Also ordered fruit and yogurt dish which I thought would be more of a side, yet came out on same plate size as meal! This came with yogurt, granola, strawberries, bananas and watermelon - strawberries were delicious! Would definitely recommend this as a must for those in search of new and yummy breakfast spot!! I searched Mexican breakfast on Yelp in Chicago and this was the first one to pop up. I crave eggs wrapped up in nice corn tortillas and this was the place to get them. It's right down the street from the Mexican consulate. It has a good vibe. Divy somewhat, and has that charm of real Mexican food in the right atmosphere. The breakfasts as you can see are exactly what I had in mind. Not too expensive, and the service is great. Quick refills on your coffee and water. Looks like they serve a full bar too. I'll have to come back for dinner some time. read more

Was looking for a place that serves Mexican breakfast this past Sunday and saw this place appear in Yelp search. I saw stellar pics and reviews so I figured it would be a decent choice especially since I was in the area. Walked in and saw a lot of nice art on the purple-ish walls that were for sale. There were lots of different sizes for each design. Was starving so definitely was ready to order. Our server was excellent in letting us know the best way to have things prepared for our meal and we def listened. I went with the skirt steak and eggs which included pretty good breakfast potatoes. Love this place. I have been coming here with my family for years. The patio is beautiful in summer. My favorite thing has to be the buffet on the weekends. It never ceases to amaze my taste buds! You can also order eggs any way you like and they have freshly squeezed fruit water that is also included with your buffet. They have a small bar so they serve alcoholic drinks as well. I recommend a michelada of course! Staple Mexican brunch drink. Worth every penny and more! read more

Yes. Just yes. I found out about Angel's through a Yelp email which listed the best places for Chilaquiles in town. I wish I had found out about this place ages ago! Loved the food, service, and their outdoor patio seating is super cute and perfect for a sunny Sunday brunch in Chicago. What we ordered (and will order again!): Horchata - Fresh and yummy! Chilaquiles with Chicken - Definitely very very good and in my top 3 of best I ever had. I ordered it with the mild ranchero since I am a baby about spicy. Clearly super fresh ingredients, the tortillas were not soggy at all, and a plentiful helping of the tasty cheese, beans, and lettuce/fresh toms on the side. Def very worth trying/ordering! Chorizo-Rito - This tasted like a perfect Mexican omelet without the ridiculous amount of eggs part. I actually liked this dish better than my Chilaquiles and would highly recommend. Again fresh ingredients, hearty flavors, and just overall very very good. Do note - this is NOT spicy at all! Both dishes were HUGE servings and it's worth noting that we heated up our leftovers for dinner that night and it was all still AMAZING tasting. Final Verdict: All and all this place is an epic win in my book. I plan to revisit for an amazing Mexican breakfast/brunch experience often! read more

I was charged $8.95 for a FAKE, watery and sugary orange juice.. Not freshly squeeze... Sorry but enough is enough with the over charging for low quality drinks or food.. this places' prices are beyond ridiculous.. I will simply go to Pete's market and buy me a whole freaking gallon for that price... read more

We stumbled upon Ricano's today for breakfast. We showed up, unannounced, with a group of 10. They handled us with ease, were incredibly hospitable and the food. Oh the food. Hands down the best breakfast we had all week in Chicago. And the price was the cheapest. The outcomes left all 10 of us raving all day about how fabulous it was. We'd definitely go back again and would LOVE to try Ricano's for lunch/dinner. read more

Came here for brunch on Saturday. It is pretty surprising that this place is not more popular. When we went in there was a huge group of about 12, but other than that it was relatively quiet for a Saturday brunch. The decor is a little bit too hipster for my taste with the plenty of art pieces hanging on the wall that encompasses the entire room. All the art pieces are for sale as well, if it so happens that the art intrigues you so much while you are eating that you have to buy it. Our server was very friendly and polite. Much too starchy, perhaps if I was hung over this would've hit the spot. 3. Steak and Eggs - Deliciously grilled skirt steak served with 2 eggs, roasted potatoes, and toasted english muffin. The steak was perfectly cooked and tender, while the potatoes were crispy and moist. This definitely hit the spot. The one attribute which brings Angel's over the top is the price. The prices are extremely reasonable along with the quality of the food. We also noticed when we went to the bathroom, this place is definitely a local neighborhood mom and pop shop. Quality food and great staff make this place a must visit. Since moving to the neighborhood a little over a year ago, this place has become my go-to. My order comprised the delectable chilaquiles paired with a refreshing Mexican Coke, a combination that left me thoroughly satisfied. The prices were reasonable, and the portions were generous, to the extent that I found myself taking home half of my meal. Upon entering, we were warmly welcomed by a courteous staff member who promptly seated us. Within minutes of settling in, our drink orders were taken. The level of service was good , with our server displaying a fair amount of knowledge of the menu and remaining highly attentive throughout our dining experience. Between the food, service, coffee and cuteness Angels definitely deserves a halo over the top of it. Do the chiliquiles...not only is it delicious with scrambled eggs and tortillas topped with queso anejo but it's also one of the most fun words to say in any language. However today when I went in there were two girls, Nelly and Star, who were COMPLETELY RUDE! First of all one had hickies all over her neck (Nelly) I mean talk about unprofessional, second, they were so rude when serving us. If you are looking to have intimate conversations be prepared to speak a lot louder, the DJ booth by the front keeps it pretty lively, but difficult to hold conversations across the table. Open authentic Mexican soda is always refreshing, and if you're looking for a place that has soft serve margaritas this is one of them.
