Ricardo's Bar & Grill in Bennett Valley is one of my favorite places, and a huge reason for that is Jenna behind the bar! Jenna is everything you want in a great bartender. She's friendly, attentive, fun, and always makes you feel genuinely welcome. She remembers her customers, takes great care of everyone even when the bar gets busy, and somehow manages to make you feel like you're visiting a friend rather than just stopping somewhere for a drink. Her drinks are always spot-on, but what really sets Jenna apart is her personality and the way she treats people. She creates the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stay awhile--and definitely makes you want to come back. Great food, a comfortable neighborhood atmosphere, and Jenna is hands-down my favorite bartender! She's one of the biggest reasons Ricardo's has become my go-to place in Bennett Valley. This was only our second visit, and unfortunately it was even worse than the first. A customer bought the bartender a pizza, and she openly shared it with several people at the bar. Later, my husband ordered a pizza for us, and the bartender came over to tell us that outside food wasn't allowed, even though no one had mentioned that policy to us at any point during the night. When my husband pointed out that she had brought in pizza and shared it with customers, she responded, "That's because it was for me." The double standard and her dismissive attitude were completely unacceptable. If outside food isn't allowed, the rule should apply consistently to everyone, including the bartender and her favorite customers. We were also told that the three owners look down on bringing outside food into the establishment, yet it was clearly being supplied and shared with her preferred regulars. We would genuinely love the opportunity to meet these owners and understand their perspective, because what we experienced does not reflect fair or consistent hospitality. My husband and I own a grocery store in Santa Rosa and regularly feed the homeless, so we understand hospitality, generosity, and how to treat people with respect. The behavior we witnessed from the bartender was completely uncalled for in a setting like this, and it left a very poor impression. I've been coming to Ricardo's for years now - it's my favorite hidden gem of BV and everyone I've introduced to this place agrees it's a special place. Staff is always welcoming and the vibes are always relaxed. Not too upscale and not too divey Ricardo's is the perfect balance for any crowd. I've been here in both small groups and big groups, and each time I end up mingling with the regulars and staff. I've never once had a bad experience or bad night here. I'm a BV girl at heart so naturally Ricardo's is in my top 5 favorite spots to visit in SoCo lol. 100/10. read more

The fries were super fresh and crispy. the Prime Rib French Dip was delicious, thinly sliced and tender and the bread was soft and fresh, the au ju was perfectly salted and full of flavor! We went to Ricardo's to celebrate my oldest daughters. Birthday. I'd been here a few times before and always loved it. After all, there's very few places anymore that have the dark booth, low light, 60's feel. The positive part of our meal was the service. Our server was fantastic. The food was okay, but came out cold. It was so busy, we didn't even bother to send any of the dishes back. My SIL was the only one who told the server his chili was cold after she asked him if his meal was okay. She took it off the check. The rest of us just took our entrees home for leftovers that could be heated up. Will I go back? Sure, probably. Just not on a busy Friday night. read more

To be fair, not really my scene, more the neighborhood boys and their sports, their beer, their loud laughs. I tried a happy hour cocktail, oh God, it was a disaster in a glass, a bitter song I couldn't swallow, left it behind and wandered out into the night. Go to happy hour! Trust me , not only do they have a nice selection of cocktails and beer and wine they also have a good selection of food to choose from at an incredibly affordable price. I go regularly but this last time I went at 5 on a Thursday, the vide was fun and welcoming. I ordered a lemon drop and my friend ordered a cosmopolitan, our drinks were perfect and poured to the rim. We also ordered some appetizers from the happy hour menu, I always get the chicken wings with sauce on the side and my friend got the mozzarella sticks and the fried pickles. Everything was seasoned perfectly and came out hot from the fryer. On this night the bar was mostly women which I really liked it felt safe and fun and there were clearly groups of friends gathering. This place is a solid 3 stars, service is good & the food is just okay. I do appreciate that in both our dishes, the lobster servings were very generous. My husband ordered an old fashioned, it was a generous pour, but didn't really taste like an old fashioned -- a little too on the sugary side. Went tonight for happy hr. Great cosmo and slider (no bun for me). I was looking to unwind from holiday chores, but unfortunately a couple decided to bring in there HUGE dog that took up the whole aisle between our table and the bar where they sat. Customers and servers having to maneuver out of the way. Occasionally their tail just missed wagging in my husband's food. TBH this dog was very well behaved. But maybe that was because of the blinking collar that was turned on that I got to see in front of my face my whole meal. But CLEARLY this was not a service animal. I've been around a lot and they do not hop up onto there owners chest to eat food out of their mouth. I hate that we've because a society that let's dogs in everywhere. I don't blame the dogs, I blame owners who have zero respect for other people. When I got my happy hour food I was thinking 'gosh I got to get here more often' but now that I see dogs are prioritized over people, maybe not. read more

I could feel my spidey senses telling me something was a bit off. After being huge Ricardo fans, lately it seemed that the quality of the food had fallen. The burger for example had been one of my local favorites, but the last few times we did take out it did not completely satisfy. The once awesome soft brioche bun is gone and replaced with a harder (still decent) sesame seed bun. The mounds of sharp cheddar cheese is now down to a single slice that barely covers the burger (not always a bad thing). The quality of the beef appears to the same, but the kitchen isn't nailing rare to medium rare. The shoestring fries are not steak fries and not as flavorful as before. So what's up? It seems as if there has been a change in management (ownership?) which may be affecting the food service. There are a few favorite menu items that have vanished etc. I'm hopeful that the kitchen gets things ironed out and see some improvement. Don't get me wrong, Ricardo's is still fine. But I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to check it out read more

This awesome little bar looks pretty unassuming from outside. Inside it has just the right amount of a cool dive bar vibe with lots of locals and regulars. The thing you're going to want to write home to mom about is THE FOOD! I never would have expected so much good food to come out of such a teeny kitchen but they are killing it. My husband and I have been longtime Ricardo's patrons and we have always loved this place beyond words. The food was always incredible and the staff (namely, Joel) was just amazing. It was because of Joel that my husband and I discovered some amazing whiskeys that have now become treasures to us. We have recommended Ricardo's more times than I can count. I now feel the need to rescind those recommendations. We had no idea that the place was under new ownership when we drove across town tonight to have dinner. Our first disappointment was that all of our favorite menu items had disappeared: the balsamic pear salad, blackened chicken sandwich, and chicken Yulupa. I was glad that the fried zucchini with beer batter and panko breading was still on the menu so I ordered that to start. What was given to me was certainly not what I expected. This was some premade, breaded zucchini that anyone could find in the freezer aisle of their local grocery store. Their description of "beer batter and panko" on their menu is absolutely incorrect and misleading. When it came time to order, I requested the fried chicken entree, which I was told was unavailable. Dismayed, I decided on their burger. Who could screw up a burger? My husband ordered the fried chicken sandwich. Our food arrived in a reasonable amount of time and our server was nice. My husband's chicken sandwich was dry and burnt. You could find a better piece of fried chicken under Safeway's hot deli counter. The bun was so crumbly and dry we both wondered if it was well past it's prime. The best thing about my burger was the fact that it wasn't over cooked. I'd asked for medium and that's what I got. I also got a flavorless patty with an equally tasteless and dry bun. I could not find a trace of ketchup or mustard on it. I needed a drink of water after each bite just to get that damn bun down. After reading some other reviews tonight, I see that the best parts of Ricardo's are gone under this new ownership. I wish that they'd changed their name and feel rather than pass themselves off as being the same. This was a massive disappointment and I have absolutely no desire in returning. Karaoke! Fun time on a Saturday night! Drinks not crazy expensive, service quick and well executed! Older crowd mixed with a periodic younger one that is less consistent in showing up! Not divey, clean and well put together! Comfy seats in booth, bar stool ok, not sure about the chairs. Have not eaten there yet but heard the food is the good. Small but usable outdoor seating area however sometimes the smokers get a little close to the tables outside and it comes over. Sing you there! read more

Great neighborhood bar and grill. Staff is awesome! Friendly, attentive, and professional. The food that I have had so far has been delicious. Daily specials and cocktail menu are spot on. Bathrooms are clean, which is important to me. I haven't been to the Karaoke on Saturdays yet but I was told it's very popular. I did play Trivia that they do on Sundays. Fun fun fun. Perfectly complemented by the onions, sauce, etc. Good quality, no gristle and tender. Sometimes a proprietor downgrades ingredients when put in sandwich form. Not so here. We have had several great experiences at Ricardo's. Tonight wasn't one of them. In fact we didn't even eat their tonight. We went in and were shown a place to sit which was pretty much anywhere, but we didn't even sit down. It's a simple...the place was like a refrigerator.
