For it being named rice kitchen, the rice is not very good. At least not the fried rice that I've tried. BUT, everything else is very good and Rice Kitchen is one of the only places remotely nearby that has Mai Fun, which makes up for it, and is great. My boyfriend and I had takeout from Rice Kitchen last night. It was some of the best Chinese food I've had! It was very fresh. The veggies were crunchy not soggy like most Chinese takeout. The portions are gracious especially for the price! And they deliver! A lot of places who deliver in Kalamazoo won't bring it to us because we live right at the line of the city and township. My new favorite Chinese restaurant in Kalamazoo :) (as well as a colleague's, that I just introduced this place to) I had been meaning to try this place but had forgotten about it. My friend and I were in the area last week and looking for a place for a quick lunch and he remembered this place. I wasn't really expecting much, since I am usually let down with Chinese restaurants after getting my hopes up. Well, both of us were very pleasantly surprised. I ordered the pan fried noodles with beef and he ordered the General Tso's chicken. Both were delicious. (I especially liked his, and he especially liked mine, go figure. That General's sauce is so good and the battered chicken stays crispy :d ) I would highly recommend either. I've also already returned yesterday with my significant other and tried the shrimp lo mein - quite good as well. Lunch specials are a great deal - ~$5.50 I think - it comes with either 2 crab rangoons (very good) or an egg roll and white or fried rice, and are of generous portions. Staff is nice. They also deliver in a 3 mile radius for $1 delivery fee (says so on their take out menu). They are more so geared towards take out than dine in, so seating is limited (3 tables) but I haven't had a problem getting a table so far. read more

Nothing is as good as the Chinese food I have had in Chicago. We have ordered here several times since moving here. They are friendly fast and fairly priced. I am addicted to the shrimp with broccoli. Perfect amount of garlic flavor. If you get the combination dinner you get rice (fried or steamed) entree and choice of egg roll or rangoons = a very good deal. Teriyaki beef sticks are also very good. Not a fan of their sweet and sour chicken however. read more

The prices here are fine for what they deliver. Unfortunately, there really aren't many good options for a serious Asian food of any cuisine. While I'd still consider this place definitely a sort of fast food Chinese, it beats the competition, such as Campus Wok or Spice n Rice. Its within easy walking distance of Kalamazoo College - just one street away. I find the prices to be just slightly under the competition, and the food to be quite a bit better. Family owned and run, they are always polite. Only seating for 10, so this is mostly a takeout / delivery establishment. Popular with the university crowd and those who work in downtown Kalamazoo. I gave 2 stars because I think compared to the rest of kalamazoo's Chinese or Asian style, this was on about on par with the flavor and authenticity of Chinese takeout (which is still subpar for Chinese food you can get in any major metropolis just so everyone knows), but below some of your Asian style sit down restaurants. That in mind I was honestly not expecting a lot and was hoping for cheap Chinese. So I rate my reviews based on food flavor/authenticity, customer service, timeliness, and overall quality. First off, I ordered my food at 6:33pm on a Sunday night. I was estimated delivery by 45-55 minutes. I received my order at 8:27. That's right, 5 minutes shy of two hours... and they charged me a $1.50 delivery fee to which they did not waive after waiting 2 hours. Upon arrival I could tell the food was about to turn limp and cold. The receipt said it went out for delivery at 6:57pm. I hope that was a lie because that would be an hour and a half of driving with my food probably in some insulated bag. When I called 8 times, only two went through, one call went to voicemail, and the other 5 went to some automated voice saying that the phone was busy and they can't answer... when they did answer and I said I'd been waiting over and hour, he said "it's 10 minutes away I'll call the driver. Thanks, bye. *click*" after 15-20 minutes of no driver again, I called and he said "it's 3-5 minutes away k bye *click*"... just hung up on me twice. 15 minutes later I finally got my food. Chicken and broccoli (veggies turning limp, but I will say the chicken had a decent flavor), "fried" rice (basically colored brown with 2 peas in it and nothing else...), egg roll (literally just deep fried cabbage, but not bad flavor), and crab Rangoon (4 pieces, moon-shaped and bigger than I'm used to, and the best part of the meal). Warm sweet and sour sauce in a small plastic container would've helped the egg roll and rangoon... but I got no napkins, chopsticks, or plastic tableware of any kind. Just two tiny packets of soy sauce, 1 tiny packet of sweet and sour, and 1 of mustard. If I only paid half of what I did, this food may have been worth it. But for a nearly $15 meal I would've rather put shoes on and eat at Human Gardens. All in all I paid $14.25 for the worst service in Kalamazoo, Luke warm (both literally and figuratively) take-out, and 2 hours of hangry. read more

This is fast, cheap, open late chinese food. It's pretty much the most awful chinese food I've ever had, but you get what you paid for. If you're looking for chinese late at night this is one of your only options, but at any other time of day you're much better off going to another establishment. read more

I used to order from Rice Kitchen all the time when I lived nearby. The food was always good and arrived on time. Easily, my favorite was the general tso's chicken, which I still think is the best version of that dish I've had from any Chinese restaurant. It's not really a sit down sort of restaurant, however, so delivery and take-out are probably the best options. read more

First visit was disappointing. I love to support the underdog, and this hard to reach, two table restaurant is just that. I saw the food pics and decided that's what I needed today. But what I bought had been fried at least an hour or two ago. I was not even looking for fried food, but it was hard to communicate my order to the very sweet and friendly lady on the other end of the phone. Rice Kitchen - Chinese Near Me - Kalamazoo, Michigan

I tried Rice Kitchen for the first time 2 weeks ago.. and honestly, their the best Chinese restaurant that I had while being in Kalamazoo. I'm from the east side of Michigan. So when I first came to Kalamazoo last semester, I was disappointed at the Chinese restaurants that were here. I tried Spice & Rice, Campus Wok, Hunan Garden and Buddahs Belly. I'm very picky when it comes to Chinese food because where I'm from, it's the best. All those restaurants were very expensive and the quality of the food was 'blah'. I recently just heard about Rice Kitchen and decided to try it. They are only about 5 mins from campus and their prices are very cheap. Dinner combos are no much than $7.15 and delivery is only $1 (no minimum order needed (; ....) So I decided to be safe and try the sweet and sour chicken. Upon delivery I checked my food and it looked delish. When I finally went to eat it, it was what it looked like. The chicken to my surprise and regarding that it comes in a foam container was still crispy as if it just came out of the fryer. The rice was decent and the sauce wasn't too sweet and it wasn't of a thick consistency as campus wok sauce is. And it was warm. Egg roll was good but it was a little small. The portion size was more than enough for anyone. I'm currently eating generals chicken. And it as well is very good. I advise everyone to try Rice Kitchen! If they stayed open a little later (they close around 10p during the week, 11p on weekends) they will have more people talking about them. read more

Sesame chicken was full of gristles and inedible. Rice was decent. Egg roll was very very plain. Rangoons were sweet and 100% cream cheese and 0% crabmeat. I will not eat there ever again. The restaurant itself was dirty, cobwebs in the dining area, dirt around the door leading from the kitchen to a side/rear entrance. I am an addict. Sesame chicken, subgum wonton soup and crab rangoons. No where makes better sesame chicken, and food is always delivered hot and fresh. I am eating Rice Kitchen take out as I type this (is that sad?). And it is actually pretty ok! Delivery came within 30 minutes, and the chicken and broccoli entree is yummy and healthy with big broccoli florets and plenty of chicken. The szechuan chicken is also tasty and the portions are large. My mom got the singapore mai fun - at least one person in my family always orders this when we all order takeout. It's a ton of food and it's really good. The noodles are tasty and there is just enough curry taste without it being drippy or overpowering. Only complaint is the singapore is a little salty... I guess some people could confuse this for "spice", but it's salt. But it's chinese take out, I guess it is to be expected. read more

Very greasy and salty. The chicken was below average quality with a lot of skin, fat and gristle. I have had good food from here in the past but I won't go there again. The lo mein was so greasy I wouldn't put even a little on my dog's food as a treat. I tried mixing some white rice in with the lo mein to soak up the grease but then I just had greasy rice-lo mein. read more
