This was supposed to have braised tofu, but it was just regular tofu.

We come to this area regularly to visit our retired Priest, so each time I like to find a new place to take him. I was looking for a quick place for a light meal, since we had eaten throughout the day at a festival. The outside looks divey, but the inside is clean and comfortable. The food, unfortunately was disappointing. I was hoping to find an authentic Chinese style rice plate restaurant. It is actually a typical fast food style Chinese restaurant. We ordered the cantonese style fried noodles with beef. The dish was too salty, and the meat was a cheaper cut that was tenderized. We also ordered the Precious 8 Tofu. It was billed as braised tofu, but in fact it was just plain soft tofu. Again the meat was over-tenderized... a sign of using cheaper cuts of meat.

This is what the food really looks like.

The photo featured on Yelp was NOT taken at the Rice Shop! Don't let it mislead you! I went to this place based on that picture and I was SO disappointed. The decor is cute and would be comfortable if the horrible manager wasn't yelling at her workers and the poor teenager that looked like he was trying to do his homework near the front of the restaurant . My food seemed to be made of salt, salt and a dash of more salt. The best part of the meal was the free fried noodles and duck sauce. Even for take out the food was lacking. Bad food, Bad service, and dishonest advertising.

The eateries like Szechuan Opera are gorgeous, fancy, and as sleek 'n' chic as as a gazelle in Gucci--but, like, you're still taking your date to....the mall. Huh? Anyway, after a bunch of us decided to unleash our inner mall rats and terrorize the ground floor riding animatronics meant for kids, we worked up enough of an appetite to stop by here for a Sichuan feast. Perhaps more confusing than the fancy-ness of the restaurant was the fact that it was actually....good. Like, approved by your Canto great-aunt good. We got: - West Lake Beef Soup: As hearty and eggy as nostalgia requires - Camphor Tea Duck: Our weakest dish. Skin was good, meat was dry - Stewed Pork Shoulder: Fall-off-the-bone tender with just the right sweet-salty sauce. Your Shanghai nanny would approve. - Garlic Snow Pea Shoots: The obligatory dark greens dish to balance out all the animal protein. This was garlicky and crunchy, just as nature intended. - Stir Fry Lamb in Sichuan Style: My favorite of the night. Perfect amounts of mala and gamey lamb - Dried Sauteed String Beans: No one cooks string beans better than Chinese people, and this dish explains why - Steamed Whole Striped Bass: Because it wouldn't be a proper group dinner without a whole fish to bring luck, prosperity and A+ grades. Never mind that we're all decades out of school... - Special Dry Pot Style: In Mandarin, the Sichuan dry pot actually translates to "fragrant wok", and no Sichuan dinner is complete without one. We got the veggie version and happily munched on thin cauliflower, lotus roots and all the other parts of nature's bounty that hail from East Asia--all tossed with tingling peppercorns. In sum, don't hurt yourself trying to come here, but if you're already slumming it suburban-style and need to impress your spice-loving date and in-laws, this might just be your dinner spot.

I've gone back a few times hoping to have the same great experience I had in the past, but each visit has been disappointing. The cashier seemed entirely confused about the concept of a lunch special and the other employee said it had to do with the town itself. I don't know how the bureaucracy of Secaucus works, but I don't see how they could block offering a bowl with one side and one entree. They also didn't have a menu board, just the paper fold out which I don't find as effective, especially if there is a line. I did get pork soup dumplings to stay, and there are a lot of tables with a nice ambience so dine in is a good option. The parking can be a little tricky given the number of businesses in the plaza, but it wasn't bad. The dumplings were good and pretty filling. They were a good price, as were most of the dishes and the signs saying no tip needed made me respect the business more. It's a decent option for the area, but I'd prefer to return if they have their lunch special available again.

This is a self service restaurant which is fine, so we ordered our food at the counter and sat down to wait for our food, as food started to come out the lady from behind the counter come by to tell us that they were closing on a Friday night at 8pm. We ordered our food at 7:30. We had wished that she told us this information prior to us ordering cause we would have gone somewhere else. Overall it's fast food dim sum. While the restaurant has a pretty look to it, I think it just works as a take out place mostly.

After a whirlwind 97 hour, 8568 mile round trip with a seven hour time difference, I did just that in the immediate area around Teterboro airport in New Jersey just west of Manhattan. Felt like Chinese and did I HIT the HUGE jackpot with HOP HING kitchen at 29, Park Ave, Rutherford, NJ 07070. This catchy name is fitting for this cosy little restaurant with: 1) The most lovely and loving family that owns HH and greets you, addresses you, prepares and packages the amazing food with precision and passion. As I waited for my to go order, I loved the interaction between the husband and wife owners and their teenage kids. Lot of love and loads of joking around and having fun. 2) The food - seriously good, tasty, fresh! Got 3 lunch specials( mixed veggies with xtra garlic sauce, no baby corn, gorgeous egg roll) and a large veggie lo mein. Exquisite! Yummy! Addicting. Very generous lunch portions. 3) a spotless restaurant. 4) perfect packaging. 5) regulars who come in and recommend other dishes - gentleman loved his Wonton soup. I ate over 2 hours ago. Feel wonderful and light. Let's Roll.
