Delicious 'thin' crust brick oven pizza. Have been here many times and thought it was about time for me to give a review. I always get the pizza so I cannot speak tot the pasta dishes. When you arrive, the brick oven grabs your attention. It is the focal point in the restaurant for all to see. How could you NOT have a pizza from that oven!! The setting is not luxurious but common and comfortable. Has the feel of an industrial building that has been converted to a restaurant. Good wine and beer available. Good setting for family get together or a one on one date. Prices are reasonable. read more

Classic brick oven pizza. The restaurant is small but the flavors are big. The garlic pinwheels with marinara sauce are the top appetizer followed by the spinach and artichoke dip. The pizzas are thin crust and cooked in a wood fire oven. They are on the small side but it's possible to share a pizza if you're getting an appetizer. It's neat to watch the chef make the pizzas which can be seen from any table in the restaurant. They just recently added outdoor seating in the back. Service can be slow as there are only two waitresses but sit back and relax and enjoy the atmosphere. read more

Richard's is a hidden gem in growing downtown Franklin. I am so glad I tried this place. I ordered a 'create your own' with spicy Italian sausage, fresh garlic, sliced pepperoncini peppers, and fresh mozzarella. My husband ordered a 'create your own' with pepperoni, fresh mozzarella, and garlic. For our appetizer we ordered the garlic pinwheels with marinara to dip. Because everything is cooked in a wood fire brick oven pizza, it is hot and ready in minutes! The service was great and our server seemed to be pretty passionate about the food he was serving. The ingredients seem to be really nice quality and very fresh. All pizza comes in the same size- about 10 inches. Next time I will ask for mine to be extra crispy but I know that there is a very fine line between underdone and burnt when using these ovens. read more

First, let me say my rating is more about value than quality. It was my first visit and I had been itching to come here because of the many positive Yelp! reviews. We arrived and quickly texted friends to join us. We were a party of seven. I looked for an appetizer that I could have on the table so the friends joining us would have something to nibble on. There aren't really any appetizers that are meant for more than a couple people to share except for the garlic spirals which came in quantities of two, four or six. Six is $15.00 and since there were seven of us, we would have to add on an order of two for there to be one for each person but I think it ridiculous to spend $20.00 for eight garlic knots. I looked at pricing for pizzas, and while not outrageous by any means, it is a very thin dough no bigger than a normal sized dinner plate. At $1.00 per topping, a traditional pizza topping style could turn that small pizza into $15.00 in a snap. In fact, I would go as far as to say the pizzas are really only enough for one hardy appetite. We had three teenagers with us and it seemed nuts that each teen would need their own pizza. Thank goodness I had ordered the "cheese bread" which was their thin pizza dough with cheese on top, at $6-ish per cheese bread. Ultimately, the pizza was okay. Certainly not bad but not great either. At their current prices, I would not return. I think their portions should be bigger for the prices. Sadly, I would not recommend this pizzeria, based solely on value. read more

Food is fantastic, service is horrible. First, let me be clear, this is not because they are short staffed due to covid. This is a small place and there were 4-5 waiters/waitresses. After sitting at our table for 30 min without anyone coming to say hello or take our drink order, I got up and found someone and asked if someone could help us. The person I found was the owner, which should have helped.....not so much. She took our order, and then never turned the order in. About 15-20 min later, the order was given to the kitchen. One of the waitresses then blamed us and said she isn't supposed to be taking orders. Well...sorry, NO ONE would even come to our table. Finally after being there for 1 hour, we got our food. The guys in the kitchen work HARD and the food is fantastic. We were grabbing our own food from the guys in the kitchen - our table was right next to them. We never got refills on drinks, and had to track down the owner for our bill. She finally brings the bill and never apologized for the experience we had, and charged us full price! Lol. Seriously? I never ask for a manager when dining out, and wasn't looking for a free meal, but she could have offered SOMETHING. My husband said while handing her the card, you have got to be kidding me you didn't even think to offer us a discount? She then snatched the bill from him and tore it up and made a scene in front of everyone. Wow! No matter how good the food is - we won't be back. The last time we were there we had bad service (forgot a meal for one of us) but we thought it was just a fluke. I guess if you get the food to go you'd be okay because the food really is good, but I won't even do that because I won't support someone like that. I really, REALLY was looking forward to going here and trying their pizza as I have lived in Naples, Italy and have had numerous brick oven Neapolitan pizzas on the East Coast. We used the website to check out the times, location and menu and we arrived at 4.45pm. They are open from 5pm until 9pm and we were the 2nd group of customers to enter. Everything is great so far ..... clean, smells great you can see the brick oven. We were ready for a good time and were planning on purchasing several dishes to try the assortment of food. We were seated and asked what we wanted to drink, we informed the waitress we would like water and that it was our first time here. She went over the menu very quickly and brought us our waters. That was at 5:05pm. At 5:26pm my wife said I am out of here, as the waitress had never returned to take our order and in fact had taken an order of another couple who entered after we did and severed drinks to another couple who also entered after we did. In closing I am sure or would hope the food is good however was never able to try it. I believe sitting for over 20 minutes while others who entered after us are not only having their orders taken but in fact are actually being served food!!! This place is somewhat of a hodge-podge of interesting on the inside. There are garage doors and something that looks like plastered straw for walls, yet it was clean inside. It could also use some sprucing up on the outside. BUT, don't let that deter you. The brick oven is really something to see. It is rather large and impressive, and you can actually watch the pizzas cook if you choose. Personally, I love open-concept kitchens/food prep areas because those places usually don't have too much to hide. We started off with the garlic pinwheels. They literally had tons of garlic butter still puddled in their centers when we received them and came with ample marinara for dipping. They were good, yet a bit on the over-crispy side on some of the outsides. On to the pizza...they have an impressive selection of toppings to choose from. You can also get any of those toppings on your calzone or salad if you so choose. I like customization because I tend to have more eccentric taste at times. :) My pizza was half extra mushrooms (shocker!) and half pepperoni and pineapple. It was tasty and cooked perfectly. Tons of cheese that actually looked like real cheese. These were good quality toppings. Our drinks were kept full the entire time we dined, and our server was attentive. I live in Greenwood and work in Franklin and never knew this place existed. Wish I had known as my family and I thoroughly enjoyed our experience and will be going back again. While the exterior of the building and environment (city roadwork going on) left us thinking that the place wasn't even open as we approached, the interior was very warm and inviting and the instant smell of wood fired garlic and bread when we entered the space made it worth the further investigation. We started off with the garlic pinwheels which were good but I wouldn't write home about them. However my wife and I split the smoked mozzarella and prosciutto ravioli and a Mediterranean pizza and it was amazing!!! The wait staff was awesome and the drinks were always topped off. I highly recommend this establishment and look forward to trying more of the items on the menu. read more

Potential Down Side:-they do not take reservations, (I was told by my waitress that if I called an hour before we arrived they would set up an area for us) the inside is small, but they do offer an outdoor area that is a little more roomy. Our flatbread that came with the spinach artichoke dip was also burnt. The dip was nothing great, (less than a cup, it came in a tiny dessert bowl) and it was mostly giant chunks of artichoke, a little cream and a few leaves of spinach. We ordered the Caesar salad and Greek pizza. Server was good. Food was very nice, as was atmosphere. Malbec was spicy and perfect with the meal. However, all ambiance was shifted (remember this was our daughter's get adulation meal with a party of six, five of which were from out of town), when the manager came over and encouraged us to "give up the table" as she had guests waiting. If you grew up in a small town like me, this place will make you feel right at home. The outside doesn't have very good curb appeal, but trust me it's worth the trip inside. Once inside you are greeted by friendly staff and a huge brick oven. It was pretty empty when we were there, but it was nice because you could see them cook the pizza in the huge oven. We started with the cheesy garlic pinwheels. One word.. HEAVEN! Seriously you have to get it if you make the trip to Richard's. I had the spaghetti and meatballs, which was really good. I know you can't do much with spaghetti, but it was delicious. My boyfriend had the BBQ chicken pizza, which he also said was great. If you are looking for a good locally owned Pizza shop, Richard's fits the bill. The pizza selection provides something for both meat eaters and vegetarians. I personally love the Greek pizza -- veggie friendly! The atmosphere is pretty unique, housed in an older gas station. We have tried their mixed alcoholic drinks before and have been dissapointed - stick with beer or wine (unless they get a new bartender!). My husband and I own The Flying Frog Bed and Breakfast in Franklin. We like to eat at locally owned restaurants so we know where to send our guests who want to go somewhere local for dinner and lunch. We have eaten at Richard's quite a few times and have never had a bad meal. Friday night we went there with two other couples and everyone enjoyed their food. My husband and split the Greek salad which is large enough for two and it was good. I had my own brick oven pizza with ricotta cheese, bacon and artichoke hearts. The thin crust was cooked perfectly. My husband had the mushroom ravioli which is always good and one of our favorite dishes. Our friends had pizzas and entrée salads and all four thought the food was great. Several of us tried the sangria and I will be ordering it again. We had guests Saturday night who wanted somewhere to eat before the movie at The Historic Artcraft Theater. We sent one couple to Richard's and they told us the next morning it was a good choice. We only wish they would expand their menu a little. Service is always quick and the servers are friendly. Plenty of parking to the side and on the street. They have great outdoor seating in warm weather. read more

We come here from Shelbyville at least twice per month. The appetizers are like nothing we've ever had. The roasted garlic cambozola with toasted French bread is so good it doesn't make sense. The local craft beer selection is amazing and the pizzas are some of the best I've ever had. Love the idea of a smaller pizza, then being able to choose from over 20 fresh ingredients to customize. The prices are reasonable enough where each family member can get there own pizza with whatever they want on it. The live jazz music on Saturday nights is just the icing on the cake. Tried this for the first time on Friday and it was fantastic, little place surrounded by a brick oven.. You can smell garlic the second you walk in... Yum!! We both got the Caesar salad which was wonderful. We got the Greek pizza add chicken.. One drink and the bill was 27 bucks .. It's not your typical large pizza and you won't go home swollen from all the bread you ate.. Perfect portion sized and truly an all in all great pizza joint..I must say its busy it is loud on the inside and the drink cups are. Little to small.. But we will return.. read more

We just stumble on to this place. What wonderful find. The restaurant was clean and inviting. We could see stage for live music but none was playing on our visit. We started with the garlic pinwheels which was suggested to us by our waitress Brittney. Great appetizer! Since our first time we got pizza, but they offer calzones, pasta, and salad. Fresh ingredients and yummy crust all cooked perfect in the brick oven. We don't normally get desert but since this was our first visit we decided to get s'mores pizza.
