Yesterday evening I had an A/C unit quit cooling, compressor wasn't running. Didn't notice till midnight. Jumped on Yelp, sent a request for service and received a response at 6am from James and scheduled a 10:20 appointment. Camilo shows up early about 10am, but my subdivision had just lost power. Didn't stop him. I offered to wait and reschedule and he said he could check a few things. Well, power came back right when he rang the bell to say he needed to come back in order to troubleshoot with power. He checked it out further, turns out I needed a new capacitor, no surprise. Awesome job. We scheduled for a tune up and James and his crew showed up right on time. Before they entered the house, they were even polite enough to remove their shoes without me asking (it's an Asian thing). Very thorough job cleaning job on the condenser units outside. It was well needed because lots of dirt and debris were coming out. They should be running a lot more efficient now. The guys were also able to find low amounts of Freon and pressure in the units. I highly recommend Richmond Air. I knew I needed a new HVAC for the room above the garage. Since the space is not used very much, I did not want to invest in a high end HVAC unit. I got estimates from 6 highly reputable HVAC businesses, all also with good ratings, including my previous HVAC installer. Richmond Air's prices were the best with a top brand. Others were offering lower brands such as Goodman or lower seer rating HVACs for nearly the same price. But the price is not the deciding as installation technique is more important. Richmond Air uses their own crew. When I called Richmond Air, they sent a very informative staff member. I left a message after hours and received a return call that evening by the owner. They easily accommodated my schedule for the installation. They use their own crew for installation, which is very important as the performance and life of the HVAC is highly dependent on the insulation. The crew arrived right on time, 7AM. I full team, Chris, the Lead Installer was very friendly. He immediately greeted me and explain the process. Jason was the tech and Alex was the installer supervisor. She was highly active reviewing and directing the installation. Other crew members that all were very friendly and professional, Jason, the tech and Santos, Ivering, Jay, Johnathan and Anthony. They were efficient. I believe American Standard is their only brand that they install, which I like. I believe that experience leads to expertise in the installation process. Near completion, Alex asked me to view the work. At that time, I realized all the other quotes included replacing the ducts, but Richmond Air's quote only included adding an additional duct for efficiency. When I told them I wanted all new ducks, and the mistake was mine, that I did not catch that the original quote did not include replacing all the ducts. Even though I told them I wanted all new ducts, regardless what they will charge, James the owner still honored the original pricing. Chris, said, no matter what we will replace the ducts as we will not leave until you are happy. Needless to say, they had to redo some of their work to replace the ducts and the temperature in the attic was now very hot. They all did it with a smile on their faces and kept telling me not to worry. They did not make me feel badly for asking them to redo the ductwork in the hot attic. I know the extra work delayed their day, which is a big problem as attics are hotter in the afternoon. They protected and clean the room very well. In summary they are highly ethical, very customer centered, efficient, knowable crew, very professional and above all friendly. I highly recommend Richmond Air. Lastly, they are veteran owned company and I believe we should always give preference especially when they are top quality. read more

I came home on a week night to find my AC was not blowing hot air. Requested quotes using yelp and James was the first to respond. 15 minutes later James was at my door, quickly and efficiently. He checked my AC unit and replaced the capacitor for $120! Didn't charge an additional technician fee or after hours charge either! I had cold air blowing before he even told me what the issue was. He was respectful in communication and the whole ordeal was resolved in 30 min from when I discovered the issue. Couldn't be happier with the service. It saddens me to have to update this review with a lower overall rating and impression, but since my initial system purchase in 2019, the unit has required several repairs. The heat in Houston is obviously tough on any A/C unit, but I'm honestly not too happy with the American Standard A/C. I can't fault Richmond's air too much for this as they didn't manufacture it, but the product just isn't that great in my experience. My home is frequently humid and it struggles to reach the set temperature pretty often. Last night, it stopped cooling again. I did my usual trouble shooting and replaced the filters, which weren't too bad. Gave it 2 hours. No luck. Then I figured the coils might have frozen over again, that was the culprit last time I had problems and called them out. So I turned it off and toughed it out all night to allow the unit to defrost, if needed. This morning, after about 90 minutes of running again and the house still not cooling at all (temp actually went up 2 degrees), I reached out the Richmond's for a service call. The positive: they were super quick and efficient. They came out within about an hour and a half of my call. The tech was very friendly and professional. He got it sorted quickly. The negative: I paid almost $300 to replace a capacitor. Payment was quick and easy and then I was out of the door to work since I was already late. Upon chatting with coworkers and looking online, I learned that the part itself is super cheap. Average cost is about $20-$30 bucks. Of course you have to factor in labor and diagnostics, but it just leaves you feeling pretty worked over to think you paid 10x beyond the cost of the part to have it replaced. The receipt was not itemized so there is no way to know how much was charged for parts, labor and diagnostics separately. This comes along with being a homeowner in a heat bind in Houston, I suppose. Still, I will have to reconsider future service calls with this company. The bright spot is that my coworkers had some good recommendations for repairmen to try in the future. read more

Our 1.5 year old AC unit broke in our brand new home randomly one night. The next day I came home and my home's humidity went above 80 in the house! There's no ice and fan big enough to control the humidity and temperature inside the home so I knew it need to be fixed immediately. We called a few companies but no one respond (including Richmond's Air) BUT then I decided to just send out a massive message on Yelp. Sure enough, within 10 minutes, I got a response from Richmond's Air. James came out within 30 minutes from the initial message, looked in the attic and the ac unit outside. Within 5-10 minutes, he was able to locate the problem with his professional eyes. James fixed the problem at a reasonable price and extremely knowledgeable. I recommend him to EVERYONE! If you know Houston, you know ac is urgent. He wore a mask and respected the no shoe in house policy (I didn't even ask, he just knew). Very respectful and I appreciate it. 30 minutes you guys... Let's stat facts that the Houston, TX area summers are brutal. Found site from a Google search with reviews and decide to try them out. Simple call on the phone to schedule a service appointment, same day. Called 10:01 CST and tech arrived about two hours later. Online also have a $25 discount on first service. I'm very impressed by the professionalism from Camilo G, my service tech/engineer. Listened to my comments and formulated a resolution quickly, after a couple of test outside and in attic. I recently had a complete HVAC system installed at my home. My existing upstairs unit was 32 years old, and still running. I knew I was on borrowed time and decided to replace the system before I had a serious breakdown. Anyway, I had several companies come to the house and do their sales pitch. If you do enough research, you can get a general idea of the pros/cons of different systems and a general knowledge of how they work. I knew I made the right choice when I decided on American Standard's Gold Series two-stage system. I got a bit of sticker shock, but as we all know, everything is so expensive these days. A few days later, a large crew of 7 or 8 men came to do the complete change out. They laid down tarps on my wood floors and stairs. Everyone had an assignment, and they were finished in 6 hours. When they were done, I went up into the attic and the lead technician explained what they did, and why it was done. I was completely blown away. The work was beyond my wildest expectations. James, the owner, must treat these guys very well. Their attitude was so professional. They could have taken some shortcuts, but they did not. I was told that we want this job done the right way, making any large or small tweaks necessary, to give you, the customer, optimum performance and value. When the time comes, there is only one company I need to call to put in a new system for my first floor. It's so refreshing to know that every once in a while, you find a guy who runs his business based on old philosophies that still work to this day. He came out to my Cypress home and checked out everything around the house. Turns out my home is so dad gum old that he told me it would be a huge makeover. The air ducts were placed in all sorts of wrong. He was very honest about how much it would cost, but I'm definitely not ready yet. Doable but the amount of rewiring would take a lot. That's unfortunate. But he noticed a bunch of things that he could help to improve the air ways. For starters, the air filter and filter grate was so old that my mom and I had to use PACKING TAPE. Yeah. You read that right. Packing tape. It was so old, and heavy that a few times it literally almost fell on me. My mom would force me to replace the filter cause she was so scared that it would hit her head. So she uses me instead. Rude. He went to the air supply store and found a brand spanking new filter grate to replace our old one. And thank you jeebus. One step to better air. We had just bought our home and had just replaced our upstairs AC/furnace through John Moore for $11,700 the first week!!! (Stupidly, we didn't research ahead of time and it cost us BIG TIME. Rather than spend another $500-$4500 to have it fixed again(within a year), we decided to have the whole system replaced! Update since they "wouldn't quote that high and just suggest a new ac unit" The personnel that showed up was quick to add up all "repairs" and "issues" and stated it would be over 5k in repairs. This is what she quoted my mother who knew nothing about repairs or ac unit. I spoke with this tech and they were disgusting over the phone that I immediately told my mother to just pay this fake "service fee" and I'll contact other companies. I had 2 other companies show up to my mothers house just to verify the repair invoice was bogus. Capacitor was new and i was told I needed a new one I'm glad i didn't tell her it was less than a month old. Beware of these money scheming tactics.
