I had a diagnostic done by another mechanic telling me I needed to replace starter button. I took to these guys for it to be done and they told me it was my alternator and wanted to charge me $1300. Mind you, there was ZERO indication my alternator was faulty. So I got a 2nd opinion, then a 3rd, and then a final 4th with the DEALERSHIP! Not one other diagnosis came back as alternator! All 3 said it was my key fob, for a $500 fix! I DO NOT recommend these guys! read more

I went in for what should have been a simple bearing inspection. Instead, I was presented with an inflated estimate including several unnecessary services. When I questioned the list, the shop admitted they hadn't actually inspected most of the items--they were added "due to mileage." I asked, "If you didn't check them, why list them?" The response was basically, "You don't have to do it." That alone should've been a red flag. Despite my misgivings, I agreed to move forward with the bearing replacement. I dropped the car off at 7:30 AM, and they promised same-day completion. I received zero updates throughout the day and had to call them myself. When I finally got a call back around 4:00 PM, I was told the work hadn't even started because they ordered the wrong parts. Unbelievable. They pushed it to the next day. When I finally picked up the car late the following day, I noticed a $108 "shop fee" added to the bill -- apparently for "towels and cleaners." That's excessive and unusual. When I asked about it, the manager became defensive and claimed all shops charge that. That is absolutely not true. When I asked for the charge to be removed, he muttered something and walked away, leaving me standing at the counter. No resolution. No apology. On top of that, they had promised to cover transportation to and from the shop. That never happened either. So, to summarize: * Inflated and unverified estimate * Zero communication or updates * Delayed work due to their own error * Hidden and questionable fees * Poor attitude and customer service This was my first visit -- and definitely my last. I was having a battery replaced on a 2012 chevy volt they charged me over 2k and my car still is not running. I understand they have to charge labor but the job does not require more than a couple hours of work. I talked to other shops after and the highest one was 1k for a COMPLETE install including fluids and programming. They would not work with the price and though they are nice people they charge way to much for the work that others charge below half that cost. Rick & Ray's is a very professional outfit with very cordial customer service. Before bringing my vehicle to Rick & Ray's, I advised the service tech that I was given an estimate (2K) from the dealership which 10 times out of 10 charge more than a stand alone mechanic shops. I gave the service tech a detailed summary of what was discovered and the price point given. The service tech then advised me that a diagnosis by his team will need to be performed to confirm what is needed for repairs. The diagnostic by Rick & Ray's was confirmed to be what was found by the dealership but the estimate given by (R&R) was approximately $1000 more (3K) than the dealership! Yes, I was very baffled and after reiterating to the service tech that the repair cost Ray & Rick's is providing is way more than the dealership. The service tech then proceeded to inject that the dealership(s) was going to up-charge more after they began working to repair my vehicle! I've lived too long and had many vehicles and have never never had a dealership inject a surprise up-charge after diagnosing and starting repairs. It's safe to say I would never recommend anyone go this repair shop for anything after experiencing this. It's possible it could have been a one-off but who knows. After seeing the reviews in Yelp, I would've saved time and money NOT taking my vehicle to R&R. read more

Overcharged my granddaughter for a sensor that had two screws to remove and change. 858.65. The code came on saying this sensor but a dirty air filter can trigger also. TAKING ADVANTAGE OF A SENIOR CITIZEN LIKE THIS SHOULD BE A CRIMINAL OFFENSE!! A good friend of mine wanted to help me get my work truck running again since it's currently my only form of transportation. It's a 2002 Ford f150 with nearly 300k miles that I got for just over a grand which was fair market value. He had it towed to this shop which he thought very highly of and said he would have them look at it. I told him I wanted to know what they estimated so I could be sure that the repair was a good investment on such a low value vehicle. He later told me simply that his guy there told him it would be worthwhile, but didn't tell me the amount, only that he would take care of it. Turns out the bill was over $3000. This included such outrageous charges as: Backup light bulbs Labor:$173.14 part: $2.72 brake Light Bulbs Labor:$120.40 part $4.88 Windshield wiper blades: Labor:$72.48 part $30.77 Battery and Cable Terminals: Labor $201.33 parts $165.53 Along with starter motor and solenoid, harmonic balancer and crankshaft position sensor. Total came to 1226 in parts, and 1567 in labor.+ When i got in the truck it started without the bypass I had rigged due to the bad safety neutral switch (I had left a brand new switch in the cab to be installed, which was still there afterwards) which was pleasing, but the check engine light was still on. Then later I tried starting the truck and it again required my bypass. The shifter was still out of alignment. The camshaft position sensor code came back 5 minutes after i cleared it. And the truck had all the same problems as before prior to not starting. $3k and the truck was basically in the condition exactly as when i paid $1200 for it. No better in any noticeable way at all. So my question is, who at the shop wants to buy my truck for 4k since it was supposedly a good investment??? Absolute highway robbery, but service with a smile... I'm sure they smiled all the way to the bank after they took advantage of a senior citizen like that. Im appalled and highly recommend anyone considering service here to steer clear. I could have done over half the service myself in less than a day and saved thousands. read more

I've dealt with this business for over 30 years. However after this last dealing with this establishment I will NEVER use nor refer them to ANYONE!!! The so called advisor continually failed to communicate with me or the insurance adjuster. He was lazy and unprofessional at best. After having my vehicle for over 2 months I requested that it be returned to me. Then he became upset and told me they were going to charge me storage. After a few phone calls I was told that they had already cashed the insurance check for repairs. NO REPAIRS WERE DONE NOR AUTHORIZED ON MY VEHICLE!! The folks that work here are always helpful courteous approachable and not intimidating at all. Prices are fair/average. I feel they are honest and I trust this business and they stand behind their work in my experience. This has been my go to for any vehicle repairs big or small inspections and oil changes etc. I used to wait in the waiting room for oil changes. It has always taken several hours. I have grumbled to them before about why it takes so many hours. The reasoning I was given was scheduling the complimentary multipoint health inspection at the same time as the oil change. Resulting in my car sitting for hours not being serviced. I learned a couple years ago I can make appointments for the oil changes. Pre-Covid days in fact. But even pre Covid any time I've made appointments for an oil change it has always taken several hours. I've either waited in the waiting room or I've had friends or family pick me up and drop me off when it was finished. I kept thinking it was just coincidental next time it won't take so many literal hours. But it always does. They will pay up to $10 each way for Uber. But that only covers if you are a few blocks away. I'm only 8 miles away and it costs twice that for the least expensive Uber option. The most recent oil change I made an appointment it took 8.5 hours! They broke their own record. I've been extremely patient and understanding but this is too much. When I make an appointment for an oil change, an hour is more than reasonable to wait for that and the health inspection too. Or at least under 2 hours if they are behind. But 8.5 hours is just unacceptable to wait on an oil change with an appointment!!! Am I being unreasonable here?? I appreciate small local businesses and prefer to give them my business so i won't dissuade anyone from going here but just be aware and ok with waiting a whole day to get your car back from an oil change or days/weeks for anything bigger. Bottom line for me: it is more fun going to the dentist than it is getting my cars oil changed here at Rick and rays. It is really a 2.5 review because 3 is too much but 2 is too low. So this review was a draft I never published from 2022 when I last had my vehicles oil changed last. Called to make an appointment now in 2023 and they cannot do oil changes unless it is a drop off and it can't be done same day as this is what I was told. I tried to schedule later in January or February but it is drop off only and I cannot afford to drop off. I've been loyal with my vehicles for everything car care here for years but maybe Rick and rays is too popular now. :( read more

I took 2 vehicles to them to them 1 2007 c230 Benz and 2012 BMW X5. let me start with the c230 it took them 2 days for an Oil change and that's with me calling them 3 times(was told they are doing a (52-point inspection that I never seen paperwork on?) plus that they OVER CHARGE!, SHOP fee added! shop fees? plus receptionist hands me my keys after I pay and I had to walk across the street into a parking lot to get my car(when I came, I left car at the front door} when I called to complain they said they was shorthanded. I tried to give them another chance 2 days later with my 2012 BMW X5 after calling 2x and leaving me on HOLD 20min the last time, service adviser CHUCK tells me $2,990.00 for a hi pressure fuel pump (1,600 for part at most) $250.00 diagnostics(said this is for warranty purpose) (even though I told them what was wrong with my SUV) I had it check out before bringing it to them(shops usually roll that into cost if you having the work done by them) then calls me and says cabin filters need to be replaced for (950.00 for 3 filters)that take 20min for me to replace myself thank goodness when I said no thanks. He then wanted to charge for gasket that "THEY didn't anticipate having to replace"?. I told him about my experience (NOT THE BEST) he says let me see what I can do about that and left the charge the same. Had a problem with my Chevy 2500 on a trip to Texas from out of state. Called a few Chevy dealers and was told they were "busy" and would probably not be able to get my truck done before I needed to leave for home. Contacted Rick and Ray's and talked to Andrew. He was awesome, upfront and professional. The mechanic, Matthew, diagnosed the problem later that day and Andrew called with the bad news. It was a much bigger job than I had hoped for and Andrew suggested I call Chevy since the truck was still under warranty. After another runaround from Chevy, I called Andrew back and gave him the go ahead. Andrew kept me informed throughout the repair and understood I needed the truck back by the end of the week to take my family home. With the 4th of July holiday the next week, if the truck was not done by Friday, it would have been another 4 days until I could get home. Andrew and Matthew were beyond awesome and were able to get my truck done, and repaired correctly, in time for me to get my family home. Picked it up and drove over 1000 miles home with no problem and have been on a couple more long trips of over 3000 miles since then. Truck is running as good as new. Oh my god! I feel ashamed and robbed! I was about to cry! These people robbed me right before Christmas. $2,400 to change my brake pads, rotors and sensors. I just moved here from CT and I didn't know where to go. Their reviews looked okay by score by pay attention to detail... there mostly there friends/family and workers post short 5 star ratings. Their nice for one reason because they're going to rob you! It's only $600 in part $800 at most! They hammered me so bad that I'm gonna feel it for awhile till I pay this credit card back. I'm so stupid!!! For saying okay fix it... God Please people don't go here! Don't do it to your self! They killed my pocket! Why me I said? Why me? My brakes were very low and had really no choice. Follow up- I brought my Mercedes Benz GLE350 here for the initial 60K mile transmission flush/ fluid change. I was initally very pleased that they were able to do the job for about half of what the dealer wanted. Then I drove the car. About a week later, I discovered a few droplets of oil on the rear liftgate, and was a little concerned, but gave the benefit of the doubt- perhaps i'd driven through a puddle of oil somewhere. Except the droplets kept appearing. Then, this past weekend, I pulled a trailer, and when unhooking, found trans oil all over the hitch gear, back of the car, and front of the trailer. This was about 5K miles after the fluid service. Took the car to another shop, where they discovered the trans pan bolts were loose, causing a leak. Turns out that either the old stretch bolts had been re-used, or new ones improperly torqued (Mercedes uses one-time-only aluminum bolts for the trans pan). Long story short, cost an additional $300 to clean up, trace, and fix the leak. So much for the savings of going here.. Won't be coming back... read more

The only reason I did not give them 5 kabillion stars is because that is not an option. This place is amazing! I had to wait months to get my Xterra back from another place only for it to keep dying. Not only did they fix what was wrong with it (seriously, the other place was a nightmare) they noticed things that should definitely NOT have passed inspection and fixed those as well! Sergio just called me. Seems they weren't too happy about my review. Don't try to rip people off and you won't get reviews like this. Cracks in brand new tires! GTFO! Want's to replace new bushings and linkage with new bushings and linkage and I still haven't found the radiator leak. I should consider myself lucky they didn't poke a hole in it I guess, but then they wouldn't be able to tell me they replaced it and leave the old one in like they did the guy with they sold a battery too. He got home and it was the SAME OLD BATERY! Guess I should have read all the reviews? These guys should be in jail. read more

We contacted Rick and Rays (even though they had a few bad yelp reviews). They knew exactly what was wrong and their expertise saved us A LOT of $$$$$. I've got 2 words for these guys.......... Automotive Gods! So, I hadn't heard of these guys before searching Angie's List for someplace to work on my vehicle. They stood out mostly due to the extraordinary reputation they've built with AL users. Every review consistently sings their praises. After my first visit, it's abundantly clear why. After my Jeep Cherokee developed a pretty severe vibration, I visited a couple of local shops close to my home to see if I could get the issue diagnosed. After the visits to two different shops, I had two different diagnoses. I got the impression these other two repair facilities were just guessing about the problem, given that their results ranged from "it's the transmission" to "it's probably the fuel pump." Both of their recommendations were immediately suspect to me, because both were followed by the suggestion that I needed at least a couple hundred bucks worth of expensive diagnostic procedures "just to be sure." That's when I decided to hit up Angie's List to see if I could find someplace not only competent but also trustworthy. I'm happy to say that after a couple of visits to Rick and Ray's, they are indeed both! The trustworthy part is especially important to me, because I'm a technology trainer by profession and know jack squat about vehicle repair. They didn't disappoint. Not only did they diagnose the problem quickly, they knew exactly what the issue was after a cursory examination of my vehicle. But wait, it gets better! My car is pretty old, and I'm sure there are lots of areas on it that could use attention. Despite this, they didn't try to sell me umpteen different additional pieces of work in order to run the bill up. They fixed the problem I brought the car in for, and charged a reasonable amount for doing so. (It turned out that what I actually needed was a pair of motor mounts) Here's the icing on the cake: While they were repairing my vibration issue with a new pair of expertly installed motor mounts, a completely unrelated issue cropped up on the vehicle. A hose came loose from the A/C compressor. Like I said, the car is old, and has lots of wear on it (almost a quarter of a million miles). So, I'm sure that the A/C hose is just one of many issues waiting to present themselves any day now. Despite all that, the shop actually said that since they were repairing the vehicle when the hose failed, that they wanted to take care of it for me AT NO CHARGE. Seriously! In my experience, you don't often find that level of integrity or truly caring for the customer in the auto repair industry. So, there it is. They are honest, competent and fairly priced. I don't know what else one could want in a mechanic. My wife was so impressed, that she made a batch of her homemade white chunk macadamia cookies, and made me swear I'd deliver them to the shop the next day, which I did (minus a cookie or two. They smelled so freaking good in the car, lol). Needless to say, I'm now a Rick and Rays customer for life. Give these guys a shot, and I'm pretty sure you will be too. read more

TrIed to charge me 7 times what I ended up paying Tim's German Auto ! Quoted me ! $1700.00 ! for a Cataletic Converter that would not have fixed my cars driveability then they would have actually had to fix what was really the problem for another $400.00 totaling $2100.00. This place was referred to me as a recommendation from my tow truck guy. Rick and Ray's had a difficult situation from the start w my Volkswagen that wouldn't turn off. The entire situation was very bizarre and Rick and Ray's went over and beyond to help me. They are very thorough with me and communicated w me at all times on the status. Gary is the representative I worked with and he was so kind and even sent me a report of what my car needs in all and how it ranked in priority on getting it fixed. It was nice to see this report that was broken down for me. Gary offered me a loaner car for free and I can say they are very trust worthy. Highly recommend! read more

Don't take your vehicle anywhere else! This shop was so understanding and patient with me while we went over the (many!) issues in my old car. They broke things down so I could understand them easily and worked within my budget to ensure I got the most important services for the best possible price. For a couple of years, this was my go-to repair shop. Maybe something changed recently, or maybe I was just lucky during that time. Recently, made an early-AM appointment for a simple oil change. Since I was coming in from 20 minutes away, I told them I'd just wait for it. They said the waiting room was closed (even though people were just sitting in there), so I told them that was fine...I'd hang around the area. Well, about 2+ hours go by and no call or status update, so I walk over there (this is a July morning, so not exactly cool). They had not even started on it. 2+ hours just wasted. They gave some BS about a lot of appointments and drop-offs. But, what's the point of an appointment if you can't honor it? If I did that, I'd lose my clients. And so, they've lost me. read more

I'm livid. My car went through flood waters and the car would not start up again. Got my car towed to this place because of the great reviews. Yesterday, the day my car was brought in, they said that they had to wait a day to get in a part that they needed. Fine. Today, I waited till about 1pm for them to call me. The lady said that my car was ready but that they hadn't called me yet? The lady said that the man working on my car would call me. Instead I got an email full of things he suggested that I get fixed, totaling to over 900 dollars. This didn't even enclude what my car was there for!!! I call them confused at 3pm because they still had not contacted me and when I talked to Sergio he said that those were just suggestions and he quoted me for what I actually needed. Then when on the phone, he suddenly realized that my battery needed to be replaced, adding on another almost 200 dollars. I told him to replace the battery. He said my car would be ready today. I go to pick it up, pay $449 for everything, drive home, park, turn off the car. Later I try to turn it back on again, and guess what, BATTERY STILL DOESN'T WORK. My boyfriend opens the hood and it's THE SAME OLD BATTERY. I don't know if they think I'm an idiot because I'm a girl, but I can not wait to talk to them tomorrow morning about the charging me for a new battery that they didn't even replace. *UPDATE* Money has been returned but I will not be coming back. read more
