Visited Rick's Club American for a friend's birthday celebration, and I must say the food was good. It was better than I thought it would be. There were a variety of menu options and we tried alot of them. The waitress we had was very attentive to our needs. The place itself had a bar and many drink options, a very relaxed vibe. We've been going to Rick's for many many years, mostly for special occasions like birthdays, etc. because it was the best ribs place within driving distance. Over the past few years though, it has gone downhill quickly. The young, new servers are not trained well and do not know answers to any questions. The older staff doesn't seem to care about customer service anymore. During our most recent visit, I had ordered salmon over a salad. About 1/3 into it, I found a BBQ brush bristle in the salad. Our young waitress never showed up, so I flagged an older woman and told her, she took it and said she'd tell the owner. She didn't come back for a while, in the meantime our daughter found another bristle in her ribs plate. When the woman passed by our table finally, I stopped her and asked what was being done. She said she told the owner, that was all that was said. No apologies, no compensation, nothing. I could have made a stink but we were celebrating a birthday and I didn't want to ruin it for the celebrant. It's a shame that no one cares there anymore about customer service, because the food is usually pretty decent. read more

Came here because I was craving French onion soup. The French onion soup was great 10/10 would recommend! The chicken wings were crispy and delicious, also 10/10 would recommend! The burger was good the bbq sauce was tasty and the bacon was cooked well. The sliced steak sandwich didn't live up to the expectation I had. The steak was cooked perfectly however it was bland! I didn't taste any garlic (comes on garlic bread) and the cheddar cheese was a measly slice or so, disappointing. If this was strictly based off the food I would have given a 4/5 stars but the waitress we had was also rude, inattentive and had a bad attitude. read more

Our dining experience could only be described as pathetic. Our server was clueless and would probably be better off working at a snack bar in between catching waves on the beaches of Southern California. The service was extraordinarily slow with our server. Our party of 3 literally watched tables come in 20-30 minutes after us sit, order, eat and leave before we even got our food. We were at our table for just under 2 hours beginning to end. 30 minutes for 1 appetizer to come out, 45 minutes a kids meal and over an hour for 1 rib entree and a wedge salad. Yes... Over an hour to serve a salad. We were never offered anymore drinks, never checked on, left to guess what kind of dressing would be on the kid salad and entree salad after asking. When the food finally came out we asked for the check in order to not have to wait any longer to leave. On a positive note... the hostess was very pleasant to deal with at least. Final negative note the wedge salad was absolutely drenched in some unknown dressing which seemed to be a combination of 1000 Island and Ranch. read more

Rick's Club American is the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. 1. The owner or GM had to take our drink orders because no one came to greet us with 15 minutes of being there. 2. When our waitress came she never apologized or said anything the man told her our drink orders and she went to get them. 3. She dropped them off and walked away. She didn't ask for our food orders or anything else. 4. One very off putting thing is a few tables around us were getting excellent service. We were left completely ignored. 5. After our food order was taken our one appetizer came out. We didn't have plates or forks and she just walked away. We didn't get those until we flagged her down and asked. 6. After that we were not checked on for 40 minutes. We had to go up to the bar to get a drink refill. The bar tender looked very annoyed at us. 7. We eventually we just asked to get our food To-Go and the check. Even then our waitress was irritated with us. 8. We eventually waved the Owner or GM over and told him that everything that happened with our waitress throughout the meal. He was not apologetic at all. Overall horrible experience but shoutout to one busboy who was more present than anyone in that building. read more

This is the second or third time in a row where the wait to get food has been super slow and the burgers which has been one of their trademark was super, super dry and tasteless . Been going to this place for years. Back in the late 80s and into the 90's was always a delightful experience. in the 2000's on a steady decline to point that I would go back maybe once or twice year. Now I know why - I'll never go back. My latest experience was bad all around. Service was not good had to pull teeth for waters and appetizers for the table were served without plates that after 5 minutes I had to ask for which were handed to me to dole out. 2 of the 4 items were subpar though the other 2 were just OK. On the subpar items ordered Medium Rare but come out basically well. Waitress shrugged it off without remedy. Overall, this was the worse that objective was to finish the meal, no coffee/dessert just the check and escape. Will never go back - kissing an almost 40 years good bye. read more

Big disappointment. Rick's used to be our go to place for delicious baby back ribs. Unfortunately it has gone down hill dramatically. Flowering onion appetizer was overcooked to the point of being barely eatable. The real problem was the ribs. Both orders were burnt, dry and tasted like they were cooked days ago and just thrown on the grill to be reheated and dried out. After being a regular customer for over 25 years, I can't imagine ever returning to this restaurant. Sad to see a great place in such decline. read more

I live in close proximity of this restaurant. I was walking in Congers Lake and had to use the restroom on a Sunday. No customers were around yet. I went in and asked if I may use their restroom. Owner said yes at first but started talking to me in a very mean way and even screaming as I was going towards the restroom. So, I asked him why he's screaming at me and informed him that I've dined here a lot so I'm also one of their customers. He told me he's never seen me before. I said since I was wearing a bucket hat and sunglasses that he can't recognize me but he rudely insisted he's never seen me. Meanwhile, I recognize him since my family participated in one of his Trivia Nights and our table won a gift card to dine here again. I clearly remember him since he had a big mouth while hosting. So, I ended up not using the restroom and told him I changed my mind, which made him even ruder. Screaming still and with so much anger telling me I'm trespassing and to get out of his place. As I was walking out he walked towards the direction I was going (outwards) and came to me and grabbed my arm trying to push me out of the door. He even went close to my face and was talking above me. So, I said I'll call the cops. He said go ahead because you're trespassing. While I was talking to the Operator he asked me to give him my phone so he could talk to them. I told him I will not let him touch my phone. I even asked the Operator if he hears the screaming. I eventually went outside the restaurant and two cops responded. While I was speaking with the 1st Police Officer who responded, he told me to get off his property. He was also rude to the Police Officer and he had no choice but to back up. So, while I was doing my report... another Officer also arrived and they told him to stay away from my proximity because he was trying to come closer and interrupt my report and he was even very rude to the Police Officers (who by the way are also customers like me who live in the area). Then, at some point while working on my report, he said he was leaving and the Officers told him to stay in the restaurant and wait for them in there. Overall, I do not recommend supporting this place. It did look like he was having a bad day but doesn't mean he can touch and grab a person's arm and shove them out and say you're trespassing - hmmm... a customer trespassing or even rudely interrupt my 911 call by telling me to give him my phone so he can talk to the Operator? Make your own 911 report, if you want but you can't take or touch my phone. Even rudely interrupting my report... where are your manners??.. tsk tsk.. It also doesn't mean you can talk over me so close and right in front of my face while being rude and screaming. Your restaurant is not located in NYC but in Rockland County. People who live in your area are customers. It's a very friendly area. I've been going to Rick's since 1994. It's changed so much since the switch in ownership. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE until they learn customer relations and good manners. If you don't want anyone using your restroom then you should put a tacky sign but I doubt you will since no one will support your restaurant if you start doing that. Again, this is Rockland County and not Manhattan. A little KINDNESS goes a long way here and so does RESPECT. That is how you earn new and repeat customers in Rockland. read more

I haven't been here in a little over a year because I was upset with the service. I came back with family only to find out that the service is still the same...awful. There's 7 of us and everyone's food comes out besides myself and another person. Us two ordered the same thing (BBQ pulled pork sandwich). The waitress comes out and says "they said they brought it out." Clearly, no. Then a few minutes later she comes back and goes "I only had 1 BBQ sandwich written down." Wrong. But regardless, where was the "one" sandwich anyways? Also, if you only had one sandwich written down, didn't you realize you were missing a person's order?? By the time our sandwiches came out, the rest of the family was done with their food so we packed ours to go. It's a shame because the food is pretty good but not a good experience at all. read more

My family and I tried different appetizers like the fried calamari, chicken wings and baked clams. The wings were the best which were perfectly fried and the pacific rim sauce was good. We shared different entrees: the baby back ribs with mac and cheese, salmon wedge salad, ribs and chicken, and turkey/mushroom burger. The ribs were thin and not as meaty as I thought it would be but overall the food was good especially the fries. The service was a bit slow considering there weren't many customers when we were there waiting for food. However, I would recommend trying if you're looking for some bbq. read more

Early dinner at Rick's. Started with a guacamole app with excellent chips. Not the best we've had but definitely not bad. Wife had the mushroom turkey burger with sweet fries. This was an amazing burger and the fries were the best sweet potato fries I ever had. I had the baby back ribs chicken combo with coleslaw and baked potato. Ribs lean tender and very flavorful the chicken juicy. The potato was enjoyable with a crispy crust sprinkled with kosher salt. Nice service and comfy bar atmosphere read more

My son and I had dinner here last night (8/18/23). I've eaten here many times over the years, but not under the current management/chef. We shared a salad of field greens and homemade croutons served with burrata, had a couple of well made Manhattans, and didn't have to wait very long for our entrees. While I think it was never terrible in the past, this new chef has taken it up several notches. I had the diver scallops special, and they literally melted in my mouth! I was sorry I shared two with my son for a piece of his steak special (coffee rubbed strip steak which he loved). In retrospect, I should have kept them all for myself, lol. A very fine cappuccino finished the meal. If the scallops are on the special when you go, GET THEM. You will not regret it. Lastly, our server was very friendly and attentive, but not over-bearing. Ok, here's the skinny.. After a long winter of COVID hibernation, my wife and I ventured out to Rick's after a walk around Rockland Lake. Rick's has been a Rockland staple for at least 30 years, and I've frequented the establishment since the days of my youth... That said, we entered with high expectations and unfortunately the meal fell far short. I recalled the times when customers would receive huge portions of meaty juicy ribs which tasted second to none, however, when we ordered 2 portions of baby backs with chicken, we were hugely disappointed. They meals tasted like reheated leftovers. The mashed potatoes were cooler than room temperature and pasty. The corn bread was very dry and tasteless. The Pinot Grigio was less than desirable and certainly not worth $8 for the small glass. So why 2 stars instead of 1?.. The manager and server were very friendly and we were pleased the manager reprimanded a bar patron for walking around without a mask. COVID carefulness goes a long way with us. I see there are many good reviews, but I went in with a lens of high expectations from the past, and was awakened to a reality shortfall. I'm hoping we just caught them on a bad day, but we're not likely going to return anytime soon. read more

Did the bare minimum possible, so no plates for your shared French fries, so then they couldn't be enjoyed and that was all we came there for. Her boss - no we're not flexing on our min. $25 cc policy we didn't bother to tell you about, even when we customers told them considerately up front we were just getting two diet cokes and French fries i.e. just make them pay the atm fees so we make more money out of them and then their tiny short visit costs them a ton of money in bank atm charges. Because we don't give a darn and such pesky customers are such a pain (written all over their face as they smirked to the waitress with the attitude)... And even when they charge a 4% fee on CC payment too. Nope push it in the customers faces and make it their problem. Unlike every other restaurant in the western hemisphere... Coz that's not a weird policy bound to catch people out, no wait, it is... so let's be merciless with it even when it's a father and young son on a sunny evening. Coz we just don't give a darn... Even if we damage their entire experience here... Problem?! Not here... If you care about your experience go elsewhere. Such a waste of a good spot to have such a poorly run place where the customers can go away (after seeing how much we can get out of them) and not come back. Such a disappointment. Was gonna come here multiple times this summer. Now I'll go elsewhere and tell others to avoid it too any time I can. But hey Rick's you got an ATM fee out of us - that's what mattered most to you. Just got take-out from this restaurant. Been going here for years. The food has always been fairly good with reasonable prices. This evening, I felt like I had been held up. 75 dollars for two dinners, one of which was a sandwich and fries. I ordered the strip steak. Looked it up online to see what it came with: a side order of vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes. I asked that it be cooked medium. What I got was a piece of meat that I could've used to hammer nails, a small cup of overcooked spinach, and tater tots. YES. Tater tots, which I have in the freezer and could've cooked any time. The meat was packed in with the tater tots, so all the juices mooshed the potatoes, which wound up dripping and falling apart. Is that Rick's idea of mashed potatoes? So a small side order of Mac and cheese which wasn't as good as it had been, a tough steak dinner not cooked to order, missing one side and substituted with junk potatoes, spinach that you could wring out and hang on a wash line and a chicken Teriyaki sandwich all added up to 75.00. I tried Rick's today for the first time. I believe we came there around 3:15 and we didn't order for at least an hour and we didn't leave there until five. Of course the waitress blamed it on the fact that she was the only waitress there. But when you have a table of five people and two of them are Children you have to give them more than some crayons to draw on the table. We didn't get any bread we didn't even get napkins forks or anything till at least an hour. In fact once we finally got appetizers we couldn't even eat it because nobody had any utensils. After all that waiting I wish I could say the food was amazing but my daughter called the black bean burger "gross ", And I got the chicken teriyaki sandwich that was basically bread teriyaki chicken and melted cheese.
