They are a dupe for insurance companies. Hired by a company called Strike Check to look at damage to my HVAC. Stated to the insurance company that the damage was normal, not caused by fire. I appealed their report to the Insurance Commission with actual accurate information, and their report was overturned and the claim paid. Do not trust anything they do. read more

Came back into town and noticed our a/c was blowing air, but not cold air! Called around to various companies in the Arden-Arcade area, and no one was able to do same-day service. Called Cesar with Ricos Heating & Air, and he picked up right away! He was able to come by in less than 15 minutes after I called, and immediately took a look at our unit out back. He was able to determine the problem was due to a bad capacitor, and had all the parts needed in his truck already! He also replaced a part of a wire that was burnt out while replacing the capacitor. In the middle of the Sacramento heat wave, my HVAC went out at 7:30 PM. I called several companies and they were all either unavailable or had an answering service that was less than useful. When I called Rico's Heating and Air, Cesar, the owner answered and was amazingly polite and helpful. He was out to dinner but I explained I had a baby at home and was concerned how hot it was going to get overnight. He was at my door in only 30 minutes and triaged and fixed the problem (capacitor replacement) within another 30 minutes. I've had multiple interactions with the larger HVAC companies with over 800 reviews and most of these companies will not attempt to triage any problem and say you need a replacement almost reflexively. At the end of the day, the decision isn't between the Trane, Bosch, Mitubishi, etc system. It's finding someone that is honest, hardworking, and straightforward. Would have loved a ZERO star option. Called with an AC problem. Was told the consultation was free, I even questioned that because most companies have a charge to take a look and provide a quote, but if you use them they apply that fee to the total bill. I was told NO Charge. A LIE. Was charged just under $100 for the "free estimate", which I challenged but paid: lesson learned and now passed on to you. I'm with the zero star option if it was possible. The company was recommended to us by a friend. We asked them to balance our system because one side of the house was always much hotter in summer and colder in winter. The owner (name is not Rico) came in, worked on it, and assured us it had been fixed and was totally balanced. We were having other work done so couldn't test ATM. We paid around $2,500 for the work. Once the other work was far enough along that we could run it (and it was like 102 F outside) we turned it on and if anything IT WAS EVEN WORSE. We were having a heat wave and one side of the house got almost no cool air and was probably 90 degrees inside in late afternoon and the other side was so cold I couldn't walk near the vents without shivering. We called him back in. He wouldn't talk to me (wife) only my husband. If I asked a question he would turn and answer my husband. He sent another guy out who said he fixed it again and then ran for his truck before we even knew he had left. We tested it again and now it was EVEN WORSE in that the cold side was no longer getting cold and the warm side was even hotter. Our contractor finally went up and inspected, and they had left one vent run completely unattached so that it was conditioning the attic space. The runs had no rhyme or reason. Our contractor went up and using simple common sense rearranged and changed the sizes of some of the venting, and now it's perfect. Also installed a wall vent at quite an angle - wasn't parallel to anything (nothing anyone could live with) and left it like that was acceptable work. Had to make him fix that too. I may have a picture that I will post if I can locate it. I say run from this sexist, incompetent business and never look back. Excellent response time, and excellent service. I reached out to Cesar at Ricos Heating and Air last week when my heater suddenly stopped working. He responded quickly, giving me a couple options on when he could come out to look at the issue, but then had to cancel because, well, COVID-19 happened. I contacted him again yesterday, to see if he had started services back up again, and he was able to come over yesterday evening. He was very polite, had gloves on as well as a face mask, asked if he could come in with those items on..of course! I was happy to see how he was taking this whole thing seriously. A plus with using Cesar is that he doesn't charge a diagnosis fee (which a lot of the other companies charge, though they apply it to the service cost.) He quickly confirmed my diagnosis of the issue, quoted me a price (which was what I had expected to pay), and fixed the problem within a half hour. He accepts payment by cash, check, credit card, gold, toilet paper (a little COVID-19 humor there.) The part has a one year warranty, so if it goes out again, you know who I'm calling! In July, I was left with a malfunctioning A/C unit after the prior repair guy promised that the $600 coolant recharge he performed would at least work through the fall. With a pregnant wife and a toddler in the house, fixing the system FAST was an absolute necessity! Cesar immediately responded and was able to locate a new A/C coil in no time (competitors were saying a couple of weeks). I called for my A/C one day because it wasn't turning on consistently. Cesar replaced my capacitor and told me they fixed my problem. They did not. I called again Cesar comes back and said I needed a filter and Freon refill to fix my problem. It did not fix my problem. Cesar comes back and says I need a new fan to fix my problem. It did not fix my problem. $1500 later my ac isn't turning on at all. Cesar said I need new coils but it might not fix my problem. Labor alone is $3200. Our heater stopped working. Originally we thought the pilot went out. So we tried to have that corrected to find out it was some other fuse with the unit. Messaged around midnight the day before, and he was out to diagnose a non-functioning AC unit by lunchtime. Was able to diagnose the problem quickly, realized it was an electrical issue and not an HVAC issue, and pointed me to exactly what to fix at my breaker panel to get the unit up and running. One trip to the hardware store and $10 later (instead of a very high quote for full system replacement that other contractors had provided) AC was back up and running! His price was lower than other companies, and he was friendly and professional and didn't try to sell us more than we needed, unlike other companies. He and his two helpers installed a Mitsubishi ductless mini split ac/heat pump system in about six hours, just two days after we initially called. They checked in with us throughout the process and cleaned up the area meticulously before they left. The system works great so far, and Cesar said he was available any time should anything come up. Awesome experience. Moved into an old house with a 20 year old ac unit that had plenty of life left, but had no Freon coolant in the system. Basically functioned like a fan. No good on hot days. I knew the bigger companies would try to sell me a new system without checking if it could be repaired, because I had one come out when I was remodeling. I reached out to Rico's and Cesar, the owner, came out and pressurized the line to test the leak. System Held the air pressure so it meant a slow leak, worth repairing rather than replacing. He added coolant and a sealer which should help to prevent leakage and extend the life of my system. Saved me more than $10,000 and more importantly for me, saved me time to figure out a replacement system on my own schedule rather than out of necessity. Cesar was super responsive, came on time and fixed the problem effectively. He knows his stuff, took the time to explain things to me, and didn't try to upsell me when the problem was easily corrected. Took maybe an hour, and now I have a fully functioning system that blows COLD air! After I paid, he answered my questions about putting in a new system in a year or two, and was super helpful with that. Our HVAC caught fire 20 days ago...after working with our insurance company, they requested a second opinion since they did not like that our HVAC repair company was recommending replacement. Ricos Heating and Air was sent over (assuming they were contracted with HVAC inc.). They pulled up, barely introduced themselves, and climbed on our roof. We asked if they had details on what had happened and he just stared at his iPad and said "yuh". We told him we had turned the breaker off since it starts smoking when it is on and he just said "Ok leave it on...." (it was already OFF). He did not listen to us and did not ask us any clarifying questions. When I asked what they were doing he just said "looking at it". I continued to question what that actually meant and he said "checking amps...". They were so unprofessional and did not tell us what was going on. All we heard were drills etc. on our roof. As people who are pretty handy, we wanted more details on what was going on. We were continuously met with one word responses and unprofessionalism. Would never recommend this company and will definitely be telling our insurance broker and HVAC inc. about how they handled their business. He then came down from the rood and said they cannot tell us anything due to it being an insurance claim...so they packed up and left. IF that is the policy fine...but the entire situation was so unprofessional and bizarre. Also, he did the entire "diagnostic" with the breaker off...I am not electrician but I still don't understand how you can test amps without a power supply on a combined system... And then replies that they never did repairs on our house...They literally just left an hour ago. RICOS HEATING AND AIR was plastered on the side of your van and you said your name was Caesar. He then takes it to private message and tells me that I "can't" write a review because I didn't pay, my insurance (that I pay for) did....So he is now admitting to being here, he just doesn't like that we gave him 1 star. When he showed up, I explained what problems I was having and what I'd observed of the AC unit, and he quickly diagnosed the problem and fixed it. He explained everything and never tried to upsell me on anything (I actually had to specifically ask about other services they provided).
