After another shop botched the repair of a leaking pinion seal on my F350 while I was travelling, I brought it here to have it re-repaired. The other shop had damaged the threads on the pinion and I was prepared for a worst-case scenario that the ring & pinion may need to be replaced at a cost of over $2K. They easily could have told me that I needed to do that, but they were able to save the damaged threads and get the repair done for just over $200. I dropped it off one day and picked it up the next. Took my 1989 Toyota 4WD in for inspection of the rear differential. It was making a howling noise and had lots of vibration. I sent a video of my issue to the guys at Ring and Pinion and they gave me a recommendation of what they thought the issue was. I called Ring & Pinion in Rancho Cordova. I talked with Mike and let him know I have a 1965 Chevy C10 1/2 ton pickup. I told him it has a granny low 4 speed tranny and I run out of gear real fast. After discussing some gearing options, Mike quoted me a price. I made a appointment for a Tuesday, which I was able to drop off Monday afternoon. The rear end on my 4x4 was howling quite a bit and I was referred to Ring and Pinion. Fearing the worst ($$$) I made an appointment and Mike took a short drive to diagnose the issue. He told me the ring and pinion was likely shot, but felt a little chatter that indicated a problem with the posi clutch. He gave me a price for both saying they would only do the work on the posi if there was a problem. I was expecting way more than what they quoted and they were able to do the work the same day. I had asked about a front axle leak that started after another mechanic worked on it. They told me to just watch it and explained why it might not be a problem. It leaked another week and stopped - just like he said it might. These are just really honest guys that do their job well for a good price. read more

Ring and Pinion Service is an old fashion, stand up business. I can work on engines and transmissions, but the rear differential is not my expertise. My son's 71' Ford truck needed the gears changed and we tried another shop first. The other shop was lost after two days and put it back together. We picked up the truck and took it to Mike at Ring and Pinion. Mike quickly looked at what needed to be done and made recommendations on what new vs reused parts should be assembled. We went with his original quote and they completed the work quickly and professionally. The work was done in the winter and no problems at all. However, as we all know, the real test of a quality shop is when you have a problem down the road. In the summer, my son called Mike and asked why the rear diff would start to leak. Mike didn't hesitate to set an appointment to take a look. Later that day he called to say they found a plugged vent causing pressure from the heat of summer. He cleaned everything out and reassembled the diff. Best of all, he covered everything!!! That is outstanding service and quality work in my book. We tell everyone at car shows that Ring and Pinion is the only place to take their vehicles. read more

After calling multiple shops I ended up calling Ring and Pinion Service. Mike took the time to talk to me on the phone for about 10 minutes when I was just calling for a quote to get my ring and pinions re-geared to match my tire size and extra weight. After talking on the phone it was an easy decision that it was worth the 90+ minute drive from where I live. All the other shops I called needed my Jeep for two-three days, Mike said that if I schedule far enough out he'd probably be able to perform same day service barring any unforeseen issues. Mike and his guys did a great job, had me in and out the same day, and even ended up coming in a little under the price he quoted me on the phone. I came here to get my pinion bearing replaced on my F-150. Upon picking up the truck, I noticed that the tech that worked on it left a bunch of gasket maker on the face of the diff cover.. sloppy work and ethic kind of gave me a bad feeling.. I came back a few days later because I heard a slight whine that wasn't there before my pinion bearing went bad, but was told it was road noise and accepted it. So today I get a letter from my HOA with a fine for $200 because I didn't notice the oil stains I was leaving FROM MY DIFF that I just had serviced at West Coast Differentials not even a month ago! The work was done on 1/18/21 and today is 2/11/21... didn't even make it a month and I have a leak. I even mentioned to Mike that I brought Permatex red gasket maker because it works best for the chrome diff cover that I have had leak free for the last 5 years, but he stated that they had something better.. Very frustrating to pay almost $700 and have sloppy work done and now dealing with leaking. Now another $50 will go to having to buy diff fluid plus additional Ford friction modifier... This place ONLY does diffs and couldn't get a super common Ford 8.8 right. I don't know where all of these 5 star reviews come from.. I'm sure Mike will chime in (or not) about coming back in, but at this point it's not even worth the 45 mins drive just to have something else go wrong. Mike was very friendly, but I went there to get work done at a renown business. If you decide to go here and they give your vehicle to Erik Jorgensen to work on, run for the hills... Had them install 3.55's, limited slip all new bearings and seals so far there hasn't been any odd noise from the differential I did the 500 mile break in and everything looked good when I changed the fluid i would definitely recommend this shop Mike is very professional and had no issues with me bring my own parts read more

About 6 months ago I bought a used Jeep JK. It already been lifted and had 35" tires. I wanted bigger so I put 37"s on it. Well I knew I'd better have it regeared and have better axles installed to compensate for the larger tires. Since I'd had two other Jeeps geared at Ring and Pinion Service and liked their service I went there. I made an appointment and dropped it off. An hour later Mike from Ring and Pinion Servive called and told me that everything I'd wanted had already been done by the previous owner. Since I bought it at a car lot I didn't know any of this. They could have easily told me that they had done all the work but they're a good honest business. I ended up only having new differential covers installed. Now 3 months later one starts to leak. I took it back to them and within a couple of hours I had my Jeep back, no charge ! Love these guys and would recommend them ANYTIME read more

Of course, I told them I understood if they couldn't get to it sooner than later. Mike made the exception for me and gave exceptional service too.
