It's great to have restaurant options in the Summerfield area as there are so few. My family has had hit and miss on both service and quality of food here, but it's mostly positive. They also charge a surcharge on "to go" orders, which is ridiculous, imo. Be sure to request extra napkins and eating utensils as needed, too, for carry out orders, as I'm sure limiting those is a cost management consideration for them. Positives include expansive menu selection and specials most days of the week. Staff are very friendly. Cons: Would not recommend coming here after the dinner hour. Quality goes down significantly at that point including inaccurate ingredients or totally wrong orders served, probably as full time staff head out for the evening. This assessment is based on several visits for me and my family, and feedback from friends and neighbors who also visit. Drinks are fine, and I mostly have their house margaritas which are often at a discounted price. Although outdoor seating is limited and it's in a walk-through area, if you time it right, you can sit outside and listen/watch the live music next door at Village Beverage most warm evenings. So, although overall hit or miss experiences and not a "top shelf" restaurant, I visit or order from here fairly regularly and will continue to do so until better options are available in Summerfield. read more

Solid choice for Mexican food. I met friends at this restaurant on a weekday for dinner and there was plenty of seating available. The space was large and clean. We were promptly greeted by a friendly server. To drink, I got a basic margarita on special. It came in a pint glass, so the serving was quite generous. Very happy with that! I opted for the vegetarian combo 1. The meal was fairly standard for a Mexican restaurant. I was surprised it didn't come with vegetarian refried beans or rice. The serving was a nice normal portion and I finished my meal without having leftovers. They were able to split our bill easily. Overall, I liked this place and would go again. We met several friends there, so we had a pretty large table but the service was still super fast and on point. They were all very nice and attentive to our whole group. We had a really fun server that made it even more enjoyable It's sort of in a strip of buildings, but parking was ample. We really enjoyed the food there. I got the chicken and steak fajitas and split it with my spouse. There was plenty for both of us with the one person portion. Take out family meals are absolutely amazing. Portions are great, food is fresh, and service is good. We've also eaten in several times. I have to say the service has improved in recent years. The Rio Dip is delicious! The chips aren't authentic, so minus 1 star for that. Their regular salsa has all the spice of a can of tomato sauce, but if you ask for a spicier salsa, they'll bring you a delicious spicy salsa with great flavor. Usually, Mexican restaurants will have at least 2 other salsas to offer in addition to their standard offering with chips. Rio Grande has only 1, so minus another star. I asked for one chicken tostada and they brought me two (which I probably paid for), so watch the bartender so that he doesn't "sell up" on you. The service by the bartender was lukewarm...I wasn't inspired to visit again soon. If I go back, it'll probably be just for the Rio Dip which I'll enjoy at home with some authentic chips from another restaurant. read more

This place is in a great little area. We like to go next door to village beverage so we decided to grab a bite here with friends first. We were seated quickly and our waitress was great. Plenty of seating inside and some tables outside for dining as well. I ordered the carnitas taco meal and it was a large portion of food. I didn't realize they were served on corn tortillas (not my personal favorites) but that's on me. I'm one of those weird people that tastes fish soap whenever something has cilantro in it so I passed on the Pico de Gallo. Basically I was brought plain corn tortillas and carnitas with nothing else on them. Not only were the tortillas super dry but the carnitas were as well. I ordered a side of queso to pour over them for a little moisture. Everyone I was dining with enjoyed their food so I must've just not ordered the right thing. If a resturant can't even make a decent taco, can they even call themselves a mexican resturant?!!! She ordered hers all beef and it came out mostly chicken. We sent it back and they fixed most of it. They stated that one of the items wasn't available in beef. Why the waitress didn't mention that when we ordered, who knows.... I don't think she knew what half the things on the menu were. She spoke fair english but was complely clueless about mexican food.... Like WTF!!! I don't like to complain so after we had her food fixed, we just ate in silance, forcing ourselves to eat the snot they were trying to pass off as food. Bill comes and it's $60 for our 2 meals. I look at it and they itemized evering. My street tacos ended up costing like $25 for 3 small burnt tacos with steak, jalapinos, and a light sprinkle of shredded cheese. Maybe 20 cents worth of cheese was a $2 upcharge.... Everything was just outragiously bad. I've said it several times across the last year and this time I really mean it. I like the plaza this is located and so decided to give it a try. Mexican restaurants aren't typically my go to ,however, it was Cinco de Mayo. I ordered a don Julio margarita on the rocks. I believe it has some type of artificial sweetener for the line part and was not fresh squeezed lime juice. It was sweet with an aftertaste, and I don't do any artificial sweeteners so this disturbed me. The more I drank the sweeter it got. I've been several times since then mainly because it's literally less than two miles from home and a quick and convenient lunch option when I'm pressed for time and don't want to drive into town. The food has much improved in the last few years. I always get their yummy, well seasoned black beans in lieu of refried beans or rice. I order me a carne asada like I usually do at any Mexican restaurant because you can add whatever you want and it be awesome. I did takeout because I was hanging out at the village beverage. Considering this all the times I've ever gotten a carne asada from anywhere it comes with everything in the tortilla that I have ordered. I can see where it made sense where I had to add everything myself into the tortilla so it would not have been soggy but it was so inconvenient because the steak was whole and not set up any sort of way and half of it was all fat. Then my tortilla was really hard so it ended up being hard to chew. I ate it anyway because I don't waste food and was starving but they also gave me adding in the food that I didn't not ask for. Then also gave me stale nachos that weren't even edible. The meal Wasent as appetizing as I would have liked and this place can do exceptionally better if they actually tried. When I went to throw my trash away at the door some workers were coming out and when they saw me with the bag they seemed to assume that I was coming back in to say something or complain because they ran in the door. We have been frequent visitors to this restaurant since it's one of the few nearby. The food has always been sort of hit or miss - some days it's good, other days it's not. Some days the chips are stale and the salsa is bland. The iced tea tastes like it's made with old water. We've had some really terrible cuts of beef here that were riddled with fat and overcooked. However tonight was the last straw. As soon as our food arrived so did the persistent pesky flies. We spent our entire meal in misery, trying to keep flies off our food and out of our faces. Instead of enjoying our meal we were shoveling food into our faces as fast as possible so we could leave. Our waitress acted like she was completely unaware of the problem despite the fact that we looked above our table and discovered a fly paper full of fly corpses. I don't know if this is why they were around our table or not but it was awful. The waitress said she would tell someone but if she did, no one bothered to stop by our table or say anything about it. She confirmed that I was charged for the kids meal and could come pick up the rice and as for the chips, she'd "be happy to charge you for another bag" when I came to get the rice. Seriously!? Drive back 15 minutes for rice and still have to buy a bag of chips!? When I posed that question her response was "when you go to the grocery store to buy salsa do you expect it to come with chips?" Well, no, but I also know that if I was eating in the restaurant they wouldn't just bring salsa and no chips. Or would they?? At this rate, it's a fair question. I told her that was a pretty rude thing to say and she replied that it was the managers instructed answer when people called to complain about chips not being included with extra salsa. The food has always been good I would rate it three stars in comparison to authentic Mexican fare available in other restaurants in the greater Greensboro area. This location is one of many throughout the greater Greensboro area and are owned by different parts of a family organization. I prefer their operation on friendly in Greensboro near the airport. The major motivator for the average rating is for inconsistency in coupon offers with the other family stores. Oak Ridge offers free bunch for kids on Sundays and the last time we stopped bye Summerfield location we made the mistake of assuming that all the locations were consistent with their coupon offers.
