I will be honest with you, I'm not exactly sure how this place is as highly rated as it is. First issue was when I called the line was busy - couldn't get through for quite a while so I decided to walk over to order. This was the LEAST of what went wrong with this place though. Upon entering the place, it DID smell absolutely delicious so decided to go for it. They were only two people ahead of me in line when I ordered and was told 20-25 minutes which seems completely reasonable. I wish I had left, and I will certainly NOT be returning to this restaurant. I ordered a 16 inch ratatouille pizza, mozzarella caprese salad, and a side order of onion rings. I believe my pizza was ready within 20 minutes however the place was so completely disorganized I ended up having to wait a total of an hour because they couldn't seem to coordinate orders and who was supposed to to what. Everybody in the place was getting completely frustrated (those that had ordered) and I found out someone two ahead of me had waited over an hour, after ordering over the phone, and waiting 20 minutes before coming in. I noticed hiring now signs on the windows and doors however even with extra staff, I doubt that that would have solved the problems at this place. they were so completely disorganized I feel that a completely new process would need to be put into place. By the time my entire order was ready (1hr wait time total), my pizza was soggy, cold, and what was supposed to be delicious warm fresh mozzarella was rubbery. In addition, they ran out of basil, spring mix, meatballs, and chicken. This was 6:45ish on July 4th. I don't think they can handle crowds or multiple orders. I'd honestly avoid this place- it has potential with the food, but the wait, mismanagement, and questionable health code violations, I'd skip. To recap: 1. Couldn't call in bc line busy 2. Waited an hour rather than 20-25 min 3. Order were mismanaged so hot items were essentially ruined bc rest of order wasn't addressed in time 4. Ran out of too many items essential for an Italian location 5. Possible Health code issues- people wiping face and playing w hair then touching food, using hands w/o gloves or washing after touch face or hair (like bare hands to put crumbled feta on salad), not wiping down surfaces, not keeping hot food hot 6. And as I was leaving the girl told someone ordering it would be 20-25 minutes. I was a bit of a chicken and didn't correct her by telling him he should probably just leave. read more

Maybe the food makes up the lack of customer service. I will never know. Walk in at 6:30pm and three employees in the kitchen and just one pizza in their oven. The woman folding boxes behind the counter didn't seem overly enthused we were at the counter and asked pick-up or for here, when I said for here she said it would be 45 minutes. Took a chance on a place that seemed new. We order the Ham & Turkey Club with a side of steak fries, the Baked Eggplant Caprese at the counter and two drinks. The sweet tea is good here, different almost like chai with a slight cinnamon taste. We also order a San Pallegrino. We avoid the pizza being in the mood for something light or a sub but looking at the oven makes me want to try one. A question keeps nagging at me as we wait for our food. Is there a restaurant in OC that doesn't play Journey? It's actually nice the band keeps following us from restaurant to restaurant. Everything is made to order. I feel refreshed by the San Pellegrino as I wait. The air conditioning is also nice on a hot day. The server that took our order at the counter brings us the sandwich and fries. We agree to share the sandwich because even a small is 11". The Ham and Turkey Club is indeed a larger portion than most diners. The steak fries are salted and hot in my insides as I devour them. The eggplant caprese comes out and I am hoping the server doesn't see the puzzled look on my face. I imagined eggplant baked in tomato sauce for hours after being salted with corn relish all over it. The plate doesn't even resemble a caprese. What is in front of me? A complete eggplant sliced vertically with the top still connected?! The eggplant has two slices full of skin. The slice I do taste is very bitter and flavorless. Yellowish tomatoes with small dabs of mozzarella are in between. I thought I was getting a corn relish but there are mixed greens on my plate that are just as bitter as the eggplant I begin to taste. I eat one slice and can't stomach another. I made eggplant for a dinner party not too long ago that my guests couldn't stop eating and I just paid $15.99 for this? I send it back to find out no one in the restaurant can void the item. I took a chance on this place and could not be more disappointed. I'm lucky enough that my wife wants to share her enormous sandwich and order of fries or I would have to go hungry. I should have been warned by the photo of fruit pizza. These people have thier head in the sand! read more

I prefer a thin crust crispy pizza and will say that it was cooked nicely towards the outside of the pie --but burnt at the edges and very wet in the center -sorry-one slice was enough for me .And let me add that in an age where people are aware of and dealing with allergies it is disappointing that neither a gluten free or cauliflower crust option is available . read more

I don't know how Kirby (chef/baker/owner) does it...How can he make a profit given the humongous portions and the excellent quality??? He even grates the cheese. How does he work so tirelessly year round, 6 days a week, serving customers in the non stop lines?? As they say in the south: bless his heart...literally...gotta keep that talented heart going for many many years to come. Yesterday we tried a new menu item (by fortunate mistake) the Cheesey Bread. I was convinced after eating it at another OC place several years ago that I hated Broccoli Rabe. I never would have ordered this on purpose. But I am now a huge fan-the combination of flavors on this exquisite toasty bread is something I will dream about. But, then I am so lucky, cuz I can just wake up and go a few blocks and order it again...EVERYTHING at Ripieno's is to-die-for! I got a Pie, steak sandwiches, a chicken salad, and I think a couple sides, everything FREAKING DELICIOUS! I can't wait to go back. We need one in nyc cause boy you can't go wrong with anything here. I can only rate the people and the meatball sub. It was just my wife and I, they recommended the meatballs, being made in store, so we ordered a large meatball sub which is massive, I think 22". We finished 3/4 of it and were stuffed. As leftovers it held up well. Really nice people and good food, worth the stop in. read more

I looked up "pizza delivery" in Yelp and for some reason this restaurant came up so I was disappointed when I called and they said that they didn't deliver. Since they had such great reviews we decided to go ahead and order anyway and do carry out and I sure am glad we did. BEST MEATBALL SUB EVER!! We also ordered pizza and the turkey club for my mom and kids and everybody loved their food. We'd definitely eat here again when visiting the OC!! Docked them one star because the staff member we interacted with wasn't the friendliest but can't beat the food.... read more

We came here for a quick lunch and was not disappointed. First off, it shares a building with the Burger King, which kinda confused us as we were walking there from our hotel. We both got 8" pizzas and it's cool because they fire them in the wood oven right there. The guy taking our orders was very patient and gave recommendations for toppings. He was extremely polite and helpful. We also ordered the fries which were placed in a vented take out container to keep them from getting soggy. The pizzas were absolutely delicious. The sauce was tasty, and the crust was perfect. Although a tad on the salty side, the fries were also tasty. Highly recommend and may even come back a second time before we head home! read more

Was super excited to try this place out but was disappointed to reach there and find out they were not taking any orders. The restaurant had a big flashing OPEN sign which led to further confusion. I'm giving Ripieno's a 3 because in reality they can be the best pizza ever (and we are consuming quite bit of them) and quite bad as well depending who is the crew on shift. Actually we must have ordered 20 to 30 times at least in the last 2 years and got 5 pretty bad experiences ranging from the person on the phone refusing to make any of the signature pizza, to getting a signature pizza which was made with completely different ingredients. The most annoying part being that the phone system is a single line and the busy nights you have to call 100 time to get thru or you get a busy signal. So I understand that in the mix of reviews you can get some 5 and some 1, pretty much what I did experienced as a local. read more

From a good perspective, I can't say anything really bad. The loss of stars is specific to some of the staff but wearing a mask in the time is a pandemic. I can understand if there are moments, but 2 start that were making the food had it if the whole time. I tried telling the front desk guy but don't think he was heading me and I was but trying to create a scene for other guests. I think they really need to take into consideration food safety. Had a such a great experience at Ripieno's in the fall, we went back this spring. The pizza was very good as in the past: great crust, sauce, and toppings. Yet, the sandwiches made me change my rating to five stars. The cheese steak with mushrooms, onions and peppers and the meatball hoagie were outstanding. What a hidden gem! This restaurant is in the same building as the Burger King. We were in OC during January and most restaurants were closed. Not this place! We were craving Italian cold cuts and this place had them--large and in charge! The sub sizes were huge, 11in or 20in, but we were able to buy an 11in and split it for lunch. Definitely family-size portions here. The bread is super important to me for a sub and this place did it right. The sub itself was fully stuffed and absolutely delicious! They also have woodfire pizzas so we plan on going back again soon! read more

Did you see the size of that? That is what you'll say if you order the giant pizza, large cheese steak, Stromboli or even their Tiramisu or dessert pizza (ask them to add the strawberries). Their food has never disappointed and tastes amazing. The cheese steak is just that, steak and you can tell with the first bite. I love the pizza , the sauce is so good. I'd share some photos, but every time we order, we get so excited we tear into and after I'm left asking myself, why didn't I get a good pic first? Because it's that damn delicious!
