This is probably my new favorite pizza place since I've never had sourdough crust before with a pizza. I LOVE sourdough but having it in pizza is amazing since most other pizza places taste too bready or doughy and don't have enough of the actual pizza flavor. I love that you walk in and everything is clean and organized. They have a nice city modern & rustic vibe. There's plenty of indoor seating. Plus you can see them assemble all the pizzas with their toppings and they are very accommodating when it comes to taking any toppings off or adding things on. They're also more than willing to answer any questions or explain any part of the menu! We got a Mozza-Mia which is their cheese pizza and added some bell peppers, salami, and mushrooms to add some flavor. The crust is not too thick but not too thin. This time we got a small round pizza which is perfect if you want a thinner crust but they also have square pizzas which I'm excited to try next! Their squares are thicker which I do enjoy and seeing other people order it must mean it's pretty good. I loved the taste of the tangy sourdough it adds a nice subtle contrast to the more rich flavors of the veggies and meat. The sauce is super good and they make their sauce fresh so you can taste the diced tomatoes and all the herbs in the sauce. The cheese is also good quality, not too greasy like some other places which is great. I'm not the biggest pizza person but the sourdough is really good and drew me in. I've been here twice now, and both experiences have been great! I've tried the square vegetarian pizza and the round supreme, and while both were delicious, the supreme was definitely my favorite. The sausage and mushrooms were especially good, and you can really taste the quality of the ingredients. Everything was fresh and flavorful, and the sourdough crust really makes the pizza stand out. The restaurant itself is super clean, with a nice ambience and great decor. It feels welcoming and is a great spot to sit and enjoy your pizza. You can also tell the owners are working incredibly hard and putting a lot of care into what they're creating. From the sourdough crust to the quality ingredients and preparation, it's clear that making a great pizza is important to them. I've ordered both when I arrived and ahead of time, and I highly recommend ordering ahead. Quality food takes time, and it was so convenient to arrive and have my pizza hot and ready to go. I remember one time Toby and I were in Buffalo the first time I got a taste of sourdough pancakes and it was a revelation. I didn't even order myself because I didn't know how they would translate to being eaten with syrup and all that butter. But when had those two bites of her short stack, I was a converted man. Sourdough goes with everything. I'd never had sourdough crust pizza before walking into Rising Crust but I was fairly sure it would be tremendously good. But it turned out better than that. Each bite of my meat lovers' pie sang an opera in my mouth. Sure, the toppings were freshly and the cheese was piled on in the perfect proportion, but the real diva of the show was that crust. It added an edge of complexity, bitterness, and real character to the pie. If you've had good sourdough before you know how its distinct flavor is capable of elevating everything around it. The customer service was great. I talked to the ownership team and they had great insight into what they were trying to accomplish with their pizza joint. They took my order fast and got my pie out fast. Again, I didn't like the no soda fountains as I faced that age-old dilemma of ordering a second can of soda when I really just wanted a half-refill if they had had that. I also didn't care for no garlic, minced or roasted, as a topping for the pies as that's literally my favorite pizza topping, but these were small quibbles. Overall, the service and what they bring to the pizza game is amazing here. The ambiance was good. They had plenty of tables for a small shop and I never felt like I'd be crowded out here even with more guests. That's all you can ask of a neighborhood pizza joint. Overall, this place is a welcome addition to the area and I look forward to many trips here in the future. read more

I was meeting up with my girlfriends for lunch at LovChCh when I saw the newest addition to Walnut! It's a pizza shop called Rising Crust Pizza that had a "Now Open" sign outside. Because pizza is my favorite food, of course I couldn't resist but to stop in before I met my friends. The space is formerly Pro Tacos. The interior is bright and clean with a good number of tables to dine at. I chatted with the employee who told me they just opened on Wed., 7/29 and specialize in sourdough crust pizzas, and since they currently have a soft opening special of 50% off all pizzas until Sunday, I decided to order a pie to go for the family. I asked if I could do half and half toppings since I don't eat red meat, and they were able to accommodate. I decided on the square size with half Garden party, half meat lovers. I asked them to have it ready in about an hour and a half so I could pick it up after my lunch. It was hot and ready by the time I got it. I brought it come and had to try it while it was still hot. OMG...soo good! To me the best part of a pizza is a good crust, and this one is great! The crust is thick and crisp on the bottom, but not super oily, and has a nice tang from the sourdough. Needed a bit more sauce and probably a little more time in the oven to crisp the cheese a little more. Overall good, but not wait-30-to- 40-mins-for-a-pie good. It'll be hard to return with my family unless we remember to call in our order ahead of time. Good food takes time, we know, but I think people should know before heading over. We were excited to have a new pizza place in our neighborhood! We tried them a week after they opened, but we should have known better. As with all new restaurants, it takes some time for them to settle in, figure things out, and be able to run well while serving (what is hopefully) delicious food. I once heard a famous restaurant critic say he would not eat at new restaurants for a year for the above reasons. . Rising Crust definitely has potential. The person I talked to inside was extremely friendly. Unfortunately, their online ordering seemed incomplete (you couldn't select toppings or put different toppings on half of the pizza). Many types of usual toppings (mushrooms, Canadian bacon, etc) were not on the menu. There were no descriptions of the sizes and it was unclear how the square pizza differed from the round pizzas. I finally just placed an order and hoped for the best. There were three of us eating, and the square pizza had 6 slices - enough for two slices each. The slices were generous, but I feel it may not have been enough for some people. It seemed like the square pizza came in only one size. The crust was sourdough and thick - very tasty. Sadly, there was something about the pizza sauce that was different and none of my group cared for it. None of us could describe what the difference was - only that it didn't taste like any pizza sauce we had ever tasted and we didn't like it. I would love this restaurant to succeed. I hope they might do "taste test" nights with their customers - free pizza in return for their feedback. We will definitely try again, but we will wait a few months and see if there are any changes. I noticed similar reviews to mine on Yelp, so hopefully the owners are open to constructive criticism. It's definitely worth giving it a try to support a local business. read more

The staff are very helpful and friendly. We ordered the large round Holy Pepperoni and it had 8 slices and could feed 2-4 people. The tomato sauce was savory and very delicious, it had real diced tomatoes. The pepperoni was not too salty and not too greasy. But the star of the show was their sourdough crust, it had the perfect chew and was not heavy or bready...the edges were nice and crispy. Wanted to like it, have lived here almost my whole life and have seen pizza places come and go, but unfortunately, unless they get it together, I'll give this place maybe 5 months before going under, just like the others. The pizza is decent- I'd still rather drive to Barros on golden springs truthfully, but the pizza isn't bad here. What is bad, however, is placing an online order, being repeated back the order accurately, then showing up for pick up to be told they said the wrong pizza and they have to make it from scratch. The older Hispanic lady that was running the counter probably shouldn't be running the counter as she didn't very much so seem to know what she was doing and/or overwhelmed by the task of cashier. I think if they put more effort into being accurate and prompt with their customers, then they could stand a chance- atleast offering some sort of compensation waiting for a fresh pizza, to make up for the inaccuracy. As an LA native, I've tried some really amazing pizza and have always hoped that a good local spot would open so I wouldn't have to travel for my pizza fix and I'm so glad Rising Crust is here!
