    Small - strawberry, Andes, peach

I ordered a small and it was way more than I expected. I was excited to try the peach scooped custard, but unfortunately it had a bit of a strange taste. The strawberry and chocolate flavors were great though.

Does the job, but no gelati for the kid's cup :( This is located in a really nice shopping area walking distance to the South Shore of Alameda. A few tables outside to sit and enjoy the weather. I recommend the mango!

Came here on the weekend and there was a short wait in line. Got the raspberry ice and custard mix and it was delicious! The raspberry ice provides a nice crunch next to the creamy texture of the custard. Tartness from raspberry is a good combo for the sweetness of the custard. Highly recommend if you're craving a sweet treat!

Stopped in to try their Gelati, which is a thick layer of Italian Ice, topped with either vanilla or chocolate frozen custard. After trying a couple Italian Ice flavors, I decided on the Mango Ice, topped with Vanilla Custard. It was a good mix and the creaminess of the custard (consistency of froyo) went well with the fruit flavored Italian Ice at the bottom. Located in the alley (with a children's play area) across from the Homegoods store, next to See's Candies.

Small place with almost nowhere to sit inside. Quick stop to get a dessert to try it out. You can try some flavors if you aren't sure. One person working so slightly slow line but still good service. 3.5/5 - Gelati - Frozen custard was really thick and the Italian ice tastes really fruity as we got mango. Feels like it's good thick ice cream on top of a slushy however not the biggest fan of the combo. I think they are better separately, to each their own.

Recently on a business trip to Philly, I went to a Rita's. Had did my research before had and the gelati/frozen custard intrigued me. It was 98 w/,humidity of welcome to hells lounge that I actively sought one out. I got a cola with twisted custard. The result a layered item that helped the hells lounge freeze just a bit for me to get back to hotel. I had seen this Rita's before my trip and so was excited to be able to come here. Cut little place and the young man was eager to help. So I ordered the same as I got on my Philly trip. I wasn't paying to full attention and when it was ready I saw the dollop of custard on top. I left to walk back to my car to enjoy. As I dug in I quickly realized it wasn't layered. The ice part was good, just wish it was layered. Maybe the West Coast franchisee should visit the East coast for more training. I will probably go back and try some other items as there are a lot options for us lactose intolerant folks.

    Coupon

Received these Rita coupons at the Alameda 4th of July parade which enticed us to go and get some ice cream at this location. However, when we tried to redeem these coupons, we were told that only one coupon could be used per treat. The coupon's terms on the coupon say "limited to 2 coupons on any treat". I interpreted this as 2 for each item. I questioned the employees and they said that's what they were told by their boss Cesar. This message is for Cesar the manager. You not honoring these coupons is not only outrageous but also illegal, and telling your employees to violate the law makes them complicit as well. According to California Code, Business and Professions Code - BPC § 17537.11 (a) It is unlawful for any person to offer a coupon that is in any manner untrue or misleading. We only visited this location because of the coupons, and we were hoping to give you business and not get mislead by your bad business practices. I hope to bring trickery to light and if there are any attorneys reading this review then please comment.

Fun with yummy custard and lots of Italian ices. We were waited on promptly with our orders. Lots of combinations. You can have ice cream sandwiches too.

"Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard" is located near the See's Candy store and the play area at the Southshore Shopping Center in Alameda. I was there twice over the weekend, and both times I had a good experience. On Saturday, I went there and got a large Tangerine Italian Ice. It was good and cold, with a somewhat weak fruity flavor. It was about $8 for a large. Is this really Italian Ice? It kind of looked like a slushie. Customer service was fair. The young lady helping me didn't really say much, and didn't suggestive sell. She only asked...."Is there anything else?" The place doesn't have indoor seating. So it's like a walkup counter. I returned on Sunday and ordered a frozen custard twist (chocolate/vanilla). I thought it was a little odd that the place had no customers on a warm day. Oh well, no customers means no line! A large frozen custard (with no toppings) was $8.30. The 12-oz container looked a little small. Texture-wise, the frozen custard was smooth and creamy. Although it looks like soft-serve, it's not grainy in appearance. There's no icy bite or ice crystals. When you eat it, it's dense and doesn't melt quickly. Overall, I'm not a big fan of Italian Ice and frozen custard. But it was nice to enjoy some on a warm weekend in Alameda. Southshore Shopping Center is located at Otis Drive & Park Street. Free parking and it's near the beach.

Small gelati with mango and kool aid fruit punch
    Jacqueline D.

After a hot day at the beach, this was such a refreshing treat! I was indecisive so I asked to sample a few flavors before deciding, they're all good but the mango and fruit punch had the most flavor in my opinion. The small was definitely enough to satisfy my sweets craving and ran me $6. The service is meh, young kids that clearly do not want to be there or want to deliver any type of customer service.

Weather was nice so we grabbed a table outside and ordered from a QR code on the table. Sadly, learned they were out of an ingredient for the Hawaiian roll French toast so I got the normal one instead. The waitress was really nice and managed to balance bringing out four water glasses for us. I haven't had French toast in a while but it fulfilled all my childhood memories. The Kalua Pork Hash was soooo tasty too, loved the gravy. Would recommend!

I quickly sensed that maybe this was where the locals go (every one seated at the tables were happily talking loudly) and I couldn't help but think maybe it was obvious I was not an Alamedian. "Shack" is a perfect label in it's name - it's tiny and intimate with probably a handful of tables. It really brought lots of memories of Hawaii bubbling to my mind. When you first walk through the door the first table is on your left and 3 or 4 other tables follow it along that wall. To your right is the small kitchen/food prep area behind a short wall. Two to three steps forward takes you to the middle of the room. A few more steps forward and then you're in front of the cash register where you order food. This is also basically the other end of the room where the servers are walking in and out to retrieve food orders to serve. So it felt crowded. Ordering went fast - you tell them what you want, you pay, and then they give you a table card and you go find a table. I sat outside. Anyway, they have ube mochi waffles (Gluten-Free!)! That made up for my insecurity. Paired with a mango matcha latte even! That definitely brought it up a few notches. Plus I got to sit outside with a dog! The outdoor area actually looks much smaller when you look at it from outside but once you sit down you realize it's roomy and comfortable. It's also clean out there (not a lot of flies buzzing around during my visit) so plus, plus, plus. They brought my order out and I felt myself relax more as they finally brought out some smiles and friendliness. It may have been the cute Labrador under the table, though. Overall, if you are missing the feels of the islands this is the right place to be! Also, the malasada didn't disappoint. It came out hot and fresh. Nice sugary crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Although not Gluten-Free...

Mocha almond fudge: I liked the texture and that it's not as sweet due to the coffee and chocolate combo, it's a good flavor if you like some crunch. Matcha: It doesn't have as strong of a savory and slightly bitter taste as some places' matcha ice cream, but it was still pretty good. They give you pretty large scoops, so price is pretty on par with ice cream nowadays.

I didn't think there would be any boba tea shop open after 9pm, but checking Yelp produced the suggestion for Shooting Star Cafe. We hurried over, and we were glad we found the real deal. Shooting Star Cafe is in Oakland Chinatown and it is a Hong Kong style Cafe. Besides Hong Kong style foods like baked spaghetti with steak, they have a good selection of boba tea and fruit drinks. The dining area had maybe 10 or more tables, and the tables were very much occupied by families and group of friends. There was a TV overhead, so hanging out is encouraged. We tried the classic milk tea with boba, and a citrus fruit refresher. We enjoyed our drinks. The fruit refresher was made with real fruits and tasted fresh. You can customized the sugar level, and we probably should have asked for more than 30%, as 30% was not sweet enough. We like to try the food menu next time.
