First time and last time here. I stopped in on the strength of numerous positive reviews. The fact that it wasn't busy just before noon should have been a warning. The menu looked OK and the place was clean so I ordered a taco and an enchilada plate. They were the worst tasting, greasiest enchiladas in recent memory and the taco wasn't much better. I predicted to myself that I'd have the trots within the hour and sure enough I did. Lucky I was close to the john. What a waste of money! Food is incredible!!! Fast, orders are correct. Fun to watch your food being made. Superb flour tacos made in house. Ambiance is virtually zero - no inside seating. There's a debate in Kerrville on which restaurant has the best tacos. It's honestly everyone's personal opinion, but I've always enjoyed Rita's. Rita's has more parking that is not hard to find. There tacos are made pretty fast. The prices are reasonable. (About $2-3 per taco) Staff is always nice. PLUS they answer their phone for to go orders. I've been coming here for many years and have always enjoyed the service. I will continue to return in the future I think they are very good, but not the best in Kerrville. read more

There are only two real downsides to Rita's: that they don't serve chips and salsa, and that the dining room is now kind of drab when before it was more cheery. Now that *that's* out of the way... Rita's is located conveniently in downtown Kerrville on Earl Garrett Street. It's an easy in-and-out for take-out breakfast tacos from 6am till 2pm. (Mary's Tacos closes, I believe at 1:30pm.) One of my favorite go-to spots for breakfast tacos. I haven't been in a while, so I was really looking forward to a yummy taco. I don't know when they changed their chorizo, but the stuff they are using now is horrible. I don't know if they are making their own now or what, but o took one bite and the rest went in the trash. $ 5 wasted. The chorizo was large chunks and had an excess of one spice. I've never tasted chorizo like that before and hope to never again. Thankfully I ordered another taco and it was perfect! They still have great tacos, but I won't be touching their chorizo again. I hope they switch back. The tacos were hot, salsa was spicy and tortillas were great. Still will remain on my go-to list. Give them a try, but skip the pale, chunky, chorizo! read more

Lost my business at this location forever. I tried to buy some tacos this morning. He couldn't get my card to work. I tried my other card. He couldn't get that to work. Instead of asking if I have cash (I was about to pull out a $20) the man told me to just come back tomorrow. No. I won't be coming back ever. Rita's 2 is less expensive for the same food and Mary's went above and beyond one time and let me have tacos for free (I forgot my wallet and they let me, a regular, pay the next day. I did and added a nice tip too). If you can't get my card to work and won't ask if I have cash, you won't get my card or cash. Or business. Edit: Went to Mary's and SURPRISE! I was desperate for Mexican tacos before heading back to Austin with my kids. This place had good reviews, so I figured I'd give it a try. The fresh tortillas really attracted me and they didn't disappoint. Both flour and corn were delicious! Buyer beware: their portions are extremely generous, so don't order 2 tacos unless you're really hungry. Their red salsa, which is the only one I saw around, tasted fresh and didn't have any hint of unnecessary ingredients like vinegar. When done right, the ingredients speak for themselves and SHOULD be made daily, not preserved. Where they missed the mark was in their fillings. While they started at 5 stars for having fresh tortillas, I knocked them down a notch for having their fillings lying out in warmers. While that makes for quicker service, which is nice, you can also get over cooked eggs and other ingredients. Mine (potato, bean, cheese, and egg) were tasty, but you can only get 5 stars in my book by making each meal to order. They also didn't have migas, which I was very much looking forward to. However, this makes sense since migas would become a soggy mess if pre-made, like the other filling components. They did have barbacoa, which would've been nice to try, but I didn't this time around. Perhaps, if I'm in the area, I'll give them another try and see how that or their lunches fare. read more

This place used to be the very best! Recently someone else has taken over and the food quality has gone way down. Tortillas are thicker and soggier and the sausages tastes bad. The eggs used to be fluffy and dry with nice pieces of onion and jalapeño and now it's like a soupy mess. The papas used to be fried nice and crispy and now it's like boiled potatoes thrown in there. Wife and I walked in and were received flat. No friendly Texas charm. We ordered 3 build your own tacos (after my shock at inflation). My two tacos came without eggs. We really wanted to like and enjoy this place. Our order was entered incorrectly, which was okay and we got it fixed after we were missing food. But there was a speck of meat in all of the six tacos we got. Chocked full of eggs cheese onion and cilantro tough! Salsa was excellent. Inside temp was very warm and uncomfortable. This review is for breakfast, 4/10/17. I love small places like this--locally owned, not part of a chain. I worked at the hospital when it was downtown and Rita's was a weekly ritual. I haven't been there in many a year, so when I left for a long-overdue road trip to California and Mexico, I decided to give Rita's a try once more. I walked in at 0600. Everything was as I remembered--homemade tortillas and fresh ingredients, well-prepared. I always opted for the "Rita"--beans, cheese, eggs, bacon and potato. I ordered two--El Paso and lunch were a long way away. They didn't disappoint. You know a taco's good when a little grease oozes out on your hand--grab the napkins! I read in earlier reviews that the attitude of the staff was poor. Not today--everyone was welcoming and smiling. Do give them a try; I think you'll be pleased. read more

We have been coming to Rita's for years. It has always been our "go to" place when driving down from Dallas. The food and service has been so poor the last two times we were here that we won't be going back. My husband ordered a taco plate and got 2 beef enchiladas. On another visit, we both ordered scrambled eggs and got eggs over easy on our huevos rancheros. Not only that, but when we finally convinced the waitress to give us scrambled eggs, they were awful. So when I was in Kerrville recently I looked up taco places for a quick bite to eat, and to my surprise there are actually a ton of taco shops here to chose from! This one was close so we decided to try it. Dang, I was surprised! It was actually really good. I had a Mexican Rita, a Mexican Chicken and a Carnitas taco and they were very good. The tortillas were homemade and the salsas were fresh and spicy. I would totally go back again! If I did have to be critical, I wish the horchata had been a little better. Stopped in for breakfast and honestly... How did they rate even this high? Now admittedly I live in San Antonio so my standards are a bit higher. But this just wasn't good. The tortillas are huge and the filing is based on a smaller tortilla, so there's a lot of tasteless waste. The Carne guisada was so salty I could hardly eat it. My husband got bean and egg tacos - honestly how can that be a challenge? He was served plain bean tacos and had to go back. The salsas were bland (red) and overly salty (green).
