    Philadelphia Cheesesteak Adventure
    James P.

Different Cheesesteak #1171. This is why I love the Philadelphia Cheesesteak Adventure!! I did know that Allentown was more than a Billy Joel song. I didn't know about the Allentown Fairgrounds. A'town F'grounds is the only place in the entire universe that you can see; Blue Oyster Cult, Brad Paisley, Blippi, Jeff Dunham and a Demolition Derby over a long weekend. That's not fact checked but come on. I got a cheesesteak. I got caught up in the excitement and also got a Pork Barbeque sandwich. The cheesesteak was $11. Typical for that region, soft roll, house made sauce and pickles. The meat had a nice flavor and was easy to eat. The sauce had a good flavor without trying to over power everyone else. The cheese worked for this cheesesteak. I think they melted it onto the roll. I love a good pickle. And a bag of chips!! The Pork Barbeque was a little bit of a let down. It had a lot of weight. The pork was lacking flavor. Definitely got nostalgia points in every category.

Enjoy my artistic rendering of what it feels like to eat there. The place is not as gross as this, but close

I wish for food poisoning. Like seriously, the food I had there was so bad that I wish I would just flat out get food poisoning and be sick for the next couple of days so I could lose a couple of pounds and maybe get an extra day off of work in return for facing this horror As a Sweeney Todd fan, I would take a lot of enjoyment to find out that what served here is human and not beef, pork, turkey or chicken, because then they were released to be a story to tell. Ever since trying to consume what they call a barbecue beef sandwich I have been singing the worst pies in London... Trying my hardest to figure out how to WordSmith new lyrics to say the worst barbecue in Allentown. I get it, there's a certain catch to the place - and maybe their ice cream is OK, I think it's kind of hard to mess that up... But seriously just stay away. It's just horrible.

Homemade Shoo Fly Pie ice cream at the oldest ice cream joint in the Lehigh Valley. Probably.

I've always loved this place so I was sooo happy when it reopened after being closed for several months. The Ritz is classic neon diner and has been here since the early 1900s. There's nothing fancy about it, but it is oozing with nostalgia, housed on the historic Allentown Fairgrounds. Haven't been inside since the reopening, but if nothing has changed, then there is an indoor dining room with old fashioned booths. Beneath the glass table tops are vintage photos, many from early Allentown Fair and Allentown Farmers Market events. There's also a take out window and picnic tables outside. Two items they are known for are barbecue and homemade ice cream. I ordered both and ate my ice cream while waiting for my turkey bbq to be cooked. Dessert before dinner because I'm a grown up and I can. There looked to be at least 40 ice cream flavors on the menu. I picked Shoo Fly Pie. If you're not familiar, shoo fly pie is a molasses crumb cake and Pennsylvania Dutch staple. For $3 I had a big scoop of ice cream in a cone. I always order the turkey barbecue, but they also have pork and hamburger. Not sure how they come out, but with the turkey, the sauce is always poured on top, never mixed. Some people don't like that. You can get raw or cooked onions, and it's served on a big roll. $7 and they throw in a bag of chips. The BBQ sauce is sweet and has a very slight jelly-like consistency. My only complaint about this visit is that they gave me a LOT of sauce which made the sandwich difficult to eat. I was a mess by the end of it. Lol. Totally worth it!!

Ritz BBQ specials menu, ridiculous prices

Visited the place on a late Sunday afternoon. Ordered a special, Chicken Pot Pie, comes with salad and applesauce. The pie was okay, but the KFC Chicken Pot Pie half the price, bigger, and tastier. The salad dressing was some sweet honey something. Salad was boring, noting but iceberg lettuce and shredded carrot. For $12.50 expected a bigger Chicken pie. My kid's cheese burger 8 Oz., fries were extra $2.50. Cheese Burger was good according to my kid, fries were good, tasted like checker's, probably were. Overall, pricey for what you get. This restaurant showed a single $ in the reviews, yet was more like $$+

Worst grilled ham and cheese ever. With a burnt to a crisp dry.

We were excited to try out the mom and pop looking restaurant, especially intrigued by the sign outside that says they make their own ice cream. In anticipation of a special desert I decided to order something simple. I ordered a grilled ham and cheese as well as french fries. My husband ordered cheeseburger and fries. Food came rather timely, but before the first bite of my grilled ham and cheese something didn't seem right, it had a very odd smell, and after my first and only bite the best I can say is that it was not made with butter, but more likely made with a very cheap cooking spray and cooked on a very dirty grill. My husband reported his burger to be just a basic burger, nothing special. Staff did not check on us until they came to ask if I would like a box. I informed her that no I would not like a box because it was nasty. I was not even asked if I would like something else. The grilled ham and cheese was taken off our bill. As I was paying I did get to see some of the kitchen, it was very dirty, with food on the floor. If I had noticed that on my way in I would not have even bothered to order. Because of the awful sandwich and minimal waitress attention, I can not even comment on the ice cream that they make themselves.

    Pirogies extra onion. Yum.

When we arrived and saw that they were in a shopping mall, we were thinking about looking for somewhere else.... Boy I'm SO GLAD that we didn't! We arrived around 12:30 and they were packed - we were able to get a table outside (bar and inside dining area were too noisy for us)! Our server, Ariana O. was great! My wife enjoyed her Flamingo Fandango drink ($ 14.50) with the Torta Ahogada ($18.95) - both were delicious but the sandwich was very messy - better eaten with a knife and fork - and absolutely delicious as were their French fries that she had! I ordered the Beef "Cubano" sandwich ($ 17.95) with a side of golden beets ($ 2.00 up charge) glazed with the same horseradish sauce that was on the sandwich (Ariana's recommendation). Both were wonderful and we shared tastes of each other's items! It was worth the drive up and the impending drive back!!! We also shared a Dark Chocolate Custard pie that featured an Oreo type of crust with whipped cream and shaved dark chocolate as a topping - it tasted wonderful but I felt a little on the small size for the $ 12.95 price! All things considered, I would make the drive again to go back to experience the other items on the menu but as was suggested, I would definitely make a reservation for lunch and definitely would for dinner! FYI: their menu is seasonal so you want to view it online before you go!

I was initially on the fence about it since its in a shopping mall surrounded by chain restaurants and a wax salon, but I figured if it looked bad inside there was a Smashburger nearby. How wrong I was! The inside is absolutely stunning, what a beautiful space. It took a while to be seated since it was a holiday weekend but when we did we had a beautiful view of an indoor sunroom. We got the potato pierogi to start, which was fantastic, and my dish was the tofu scramble (with fruit as a side). The scramble had a surprising sweetness that was not unpleasant and was quite a large portion. Our server was great but he had a very strong and vibrant personality - which I did not care for when I first sat down and was tired and hangry, but he was great and won me over at the end, haha. Anyway, try this place, its amazing and next time I am in Allentown I will be back for sure.

We had hoped to sit outside but a family had their kids running wild so we ducked inside. The establishment is one long, eclectic rectangle with a hodgepodge of art and decoration without any noticeable theme or cohesion. My girlfriend had three over-easy eggs with smoked bacon and I had a grilled chicken omelet with gruyere and spinach with a side of potatoes. The omelet was excellent. The potatoes could have been a crispier by they were fresh. My girlfriend enjoyed her dish as well. For a Saturday, it was strange that they had only one server and one cook in the kitchen. With its airy outside patio and spacious interior, we loved the vibe. We were warmly greeted by our server Paige and were seated. Our spicy margaritas had just the right amount of kick! We were off to a great start... We dined on chili and a dish called El Fresco. The El Fresco are marinated seasoned chicken chunks served on a bed of sliced mozzarella and tomatoes. It was so savory and satisfying. The Honey could not stop saying how good the chili was!! I was lucky enough to get a spoonful (or two) before it was all gone! You will not go wrong with either one of these dishes. Paige was nice enough to answer my questions about the Brunch menu and history of the restaurant. She directed me to the wall where an article about the owner Marta was hanging. We then had the pleasure of meeting her when she came by the table to check on us. We're so happy we stopped in. The food and service were top notched. When we're in the area again, we're definitely returning. If we lived in the area I could see us becoming regulars here. I suggest you pay them a visit...if you're local to the area or out of towners, you won't be disappointed!! Thank me later.

If you like hookah they do serve that as well let me not forget for all my sushi lovers they do have a sushi station and when I say the chef makes the sushi look so pretty you get to see it made right in front of you . The only downfall I would bring up is that gratuity is all ready included and sheeesh it's 18%. Other than that I would go again to see how the vibe is for the lounge at a later time . Oh and to get some more food because that mofongo was delicious.
