First of all the food and service is great. Tonight was our second visit. The noise is unbearable. The first time was very crowded on the main floor. You could hardly hear the people at the table. Tonight there was a graduation party up stairs It sounded like they were going to fall through the roof with the noise of them moving around. Stopped here for our first time and not our last. It was a little quiet which puts me a little apprehensive at first. They have quite an extensive menu. They also have a separate brunch menu on Sundays. I ordered off the brunch menu and had steak and eggs. My husband ordered off the regular menu and had a chicken sandwich. The server was attentive and very nice. The food came out looking great and it tasted just as good. Eggs were perfectly done as was the steak. My husband said his sandwich was good as well. Had to try the "new" place and BFF had also recommended for lunch. Our visit was during the week and, understandably, service was slower. Most likely due to short staff, however, our server was friendly and helpful. Missing any condiments on the table yet we saw bar service had all the extras. I ordered chicken which tasted good. Fries were fresh and tasty. Presentation-wise, my plate looked a little bare where a pickle or lettuce would have filled the void. Prices reasonable, good ambiance. We will be back. I made reservations for dinner at the Rivalry Alehouse dining room in Antioch to celebrate our wedding anniversary. When we arrived at our reserved time, we were told that we couldn't be seated in the dining room because the entire floor was booked for a wedding. We could be seated in the bar area with tvs blasting and people shouting. It was not acceptable for a nice dinner. I was told by a staff member that because I made the reservation with a third party, i.e. Open Table, there was nothing they could do about it. Hence were left scrambling to find another restaurant that could seat us in time for our 8 p.m. theater performance. We did, but they were so slow, we had to take our dinners in carry out containers to our car. The entire evening was a debacle. Do we blame Open Table for the booking or the restaurant for not contacting us when they got the reservation? I think the restaurant should have informed Open Table they were not taking dinner reservations for that night. It was a debacle! read more

I want to start by saying the service was great. I'd also like to state that the Chicken Marsala was excellent. The flavor was subtle, and not too overpowering. The reason I am giving them 3 stars is the portion size versus the price point. At $20 I would expect to have some leftovers as I'm not a big eater. This is a new restaurant In town and a much needed addition to downtown Antioch's redevelopment. I came here with my family of 4 and I can truly say I was very impressed with everything about this restaurant. The interior was very clean with a nice open floor plan. It took a little while after seated to get our waitress but it was busy and I understand that everyone is short staffed right now. Once our server did arrive our service was great! She was on top of things and our food was served fairly quickly for how busy it was. As for the food, we had no complaints from the entire family. Everyone was very happy with the quality and taste of our food, and I personally finished my entire plate. I look forward to coming here again soon, and I would highly recommend this local restaurant! read more

This place is deceiving because the outside looks great and it is a fairly new place. That is about all there is good to it. The inside is eh. The placed smelled a little of mildew. The wait staff isn't all that friendly. We were there with a group of 5. The food is substandard. The burgers were extremely dry. One person in our party couldnt even eat hers. The salad was watery and had brown lettuce so another person pushed it a side after the waitress told us she would replace it but never did. The shrimp was tiny and rubbery. We asked for water and was served warm no ice water in a dirty glass. We asked for new ice waters and again got no ice but at least the 2nd time the glass was clean. The waitress was hovering over us to get her tip and payment which was completely rude. Nothing like being rushed. Then as she walked away, she placed our credit card in her pocket. We got up and asked for the card back immediately and paid in cash insteas. Made all of us uneasy. Next the band, dear lord if you want to be able to hear anyone at your table do not go hear. The band was Extremely loud. Even without the band this place is hard to hold a conversation. After all of this we asked to speak to a manager. Was told no one was available. We had a great experience at Rivalry! There are mostly reviews on the food thus far but let's not forget about the drinks! I had a glass of their house red which was quite good. At $5 a glass, you're getting a super smooth bold red cab. You really cannot go wrong. My husband had the pineapple cider which he really enjoyed and would get again. Service was really tremendous. The hostesses were very pleasant in greeting everyone and communicating wait times. Our server, Stephanie, was amazing. My husband and I had our 4 year old and 8 week old with us. First, she asked us if our daughter could have pop or lemonade before asking our daughter what she wanted (which I so appreciated). Stephanie was super attentive and authentic which made it obvious she enjoyed her job. We'd go back and request to be seated in her area if she is working! Food wise, my daughter had their cheese flatbread and she loved it (she is 4 after all)! We did get to try the poutine which I highly recommend. I've had my share of poutine and the cheese curds on top really elevated it. I had the Patty Peppercorn burger which was delicious. My husband had the Rivalry Jambalaya which he said was excellent (it does have a kick to it). Sorry for no pictures this time around (4 year old and 8 week old in tow). Overall, this is a great date night or girls night location but also good for families with the open atmosphere. There is one small request I'd have to make the place even better is a baby changing table. Maybe there is one somewhere else but there wasn't one in the women's bathroom (main or in the bigger stall unless I missed it in my sleep deprived state) that I could find so I had to take the baby out to the car to change him. Tried a new spot for my birthday dinner. It was completely underwhelming to say the least. The staff was unattentive and didn't even fake a smile. The drinks were on point and that was the highlight of the night. The poutine appetizer was enjoyable but cold. I had the shepherds pie which sounded amazing on paper but in reality was from what I can tell some canned/frozen veggies with some beef and gravy topped with mash and stuck under a warmer. When I asked about " roof top dinning" I was told it was not open yet and they did not know when it would be open. Indicated it was not finished. Just what we expected. We had no high hopes of this restaurant. German and Irish don't go together. Will not go back. The pretzel tasted stale, too much corned-beef items. We like corned beef but way too much. The salmon was supposed to be blackened. Didn't taste that way. The interior is beautiful but the menu, if you don't like corned beef, don't go. So I have been driving to Grayslake to have a brewery expierance far to long. So excited Antioch is finally stepping in , no more driving to Libertyville or Grayslake. Stopped at the alehouse. " Do you have a sour on tap? " The bartender looked at me like I had 2 heads. " Is that a brand? " She had no idea what a sour was. Would not have mattered, they didn't even have a choice in a bottle. A total of 6 non common lagers on tap. THATS CALLED A BAR LIKE EVERY BAR EVER. I appreciate the response . Post your tap sélection once you get up and running. If the plan is expand it. I'll come back, nothing would make me happier. If thats not your plan ,and your focus is food back to Grayslake. BEWARE: DON'T BUY A GIFT CARD AT THE LODGE OF ANTIOCH AND EXPECT TO BE ABLE TO USE IT AT THE RIVALRY ALEHOUSE!!! Although the owner of both establishments is the same and the back of the gift card says it can be used at both establishments, IT CANNOT! The food was good but when we went to pay with our gift card it took us an extra 10-15 minutes because The Rivalry was not accepting the gift card. Good thing I had the receipt in the car for the card or I don't think they would have accepted it! After giving the manager the receipt she had to call the Lodge to get approval to accept the card. My husband and I ate dinner here last night. Food was good. We sat at the bar and got great service from 2 bartenders and a floor manager. Sorry I couldn't remember their names! This is the 2nd time we came to the Alehouse. The first time was on a Friday night when they first opened. Last night was the 2nd time. When we arrived through the front door each time, we were not greeted with any kind of hello or a welcome. The hostess didn't offer the bar as an option. It was a cold welcome that made me want to just leave. We stayed because we wanted to support this local business. We are Antioch residents. I'm glad we took the initiative and sat at the bar. The service we received at that point got better due to those staff members.
