We were going to the show at the Alabama theater last night & decided to just grab a burger at River City in Barefoot Landing. We've eaten there a few times at a different location ( Surfside) I noticed they're burgers have gone up $2 in price & wouldn't mind if the quality was there. Of no fault of the waitress staff. The place only offered outdoor seating while it was cold and raining outside. Not to mention the "lovely" construction view and noise. I was so damn cold that we opted to just take our food to go because I couldn't stand it outside anymore. Well, that's when we discovered that they "forgot" our onion rings and neglected to include salad dressing for the salad that my fiancé ordered. Another year, another vacation to Myrtle Beach (Garden City, Murrells Inlet, etc.) area, and another visit to River City Cafe. They've already showed me they have the best tasting, most original burgers on the beach! So me and the wife had to try some other items, is everything good here?? Introducing the Darlington 500! A Half Pound slab of deep fried Bolgna!! Topped with grilled onions. WTF! Amazing. The wife got some grilled chicken sandwich with avacado (I don't pay attention...lol), but she thought it was one of the best yard bird sandwiches she had ever had!! My mom got the fried shrimp and there was enough to feed 2!! And of course my son went with his old reliable... the OMG!! The cheese curds are great! The fried zucchini is a reliable appetizer. Fried pickles are pretty damn good too!! We've eaten at River City Cafe (all locations) every year for 10 years now....NEVER been disappointed!! See you in 2023!! read more

We lucked our way into a table after agreeing to sit at the bar seats with our children. The service was slow but the server was very pleasant and doing her best for being overworked. The fried mushrooms were absolutely enormous and while that's unique and cool, it also made them very difficult to eat and became annoying. Each of our burgers were absolutely delicious and that's what the place is known for. The French fries were disgusting. They clearly took ice cold fries and hoped that by putting hot chili and cheese on them and putting them under the heater they would make up for it. It didn't. Have eaten here on several trips to surfside and had great service and food. Tonight that all changed. My college daughter is currently fostering a puppy.( he's only nine weeks old and was asleep on her lap.)We asked if it was ok to bring him in and they said no problem.We made our drink orders and were about to order food, when the server told us no dogs. We said they already told us it was ok. Long story short the manager came over and just said no dogs. No apologies from him. I just love this place so much. You can't beat the view as you hear the ocean crashing while you wait for your burger. The only reason I'm saying 4 stars is because they were out of several things. I understand it's difficult to get inventory now but boy I had my heart set on grouper fingers. I opted for a burger with smoked Gouda and some homemade fries. We stopped in here because of all the reviews and it was listed as the best burger in Myrtle beach. Well not so much I mean the prices are great a $10-$12 dollar burger and a huge selection but the actual burger was mediocre at best. We waited an hour for our table and when the food came it was cooked wrong, missing toppings, and the fries were cold. I'm somewhat of a burger connoisseur so I was expecting much more. I got a burger from another restaurant called "Art"on beach a few days earlier and it was superb. When we got here our friends were already seated (and it was pouring outside) so we just sat down and ordered some appetizers which ended up coming out faster than everyone else's food even though we got there last. This is a peanuts on the table, push the shells on the floor kind of place so expect lots of peanut shell piles on the floor. The food is fine. It's not spectacular but it's not crazy beach prices either. I prefer less fried options myself but I knew when we were coming it wasn't going to be a fancy place. I would give the service 5 stars for being friendly and prompt and the food 4 stars since it was good for what it was but it didn't blow me off my feet. We picked this place because it was the only place in a 5 mile radius that had macaroni on the kids menu and that's all my kids wanted. When we ordered Mac and cheese the server said they were out. I asked her how could they be out at 11am she said they had it but had to save it for the fried Mac and cheese burger. My kid's were so upset because I promised them mac and cheese and this place refused to sell it to us. It didn't help things that my burger was so overcooked it was dry. I always come here when I'm at the beach! This is one of my favorite places to eat. The food is always good and I love the peanuts that you get (for free). The service has always been fast and extremely courteous. My favorite meal is the chicken fingers but the hamburgers are also really really good! I don't think it's on the menu anymore, but if you can take a little heat, ask for the cajun seasoning for your fries...so good! I prefer sitting outside as you get a great view of the beach. It is so calm and peaceful and I love it out there. Sometimes it's too windy to eat so on those occasions I sit inside but try to sit by a window so I can see the beach. The sweet tea is very good! I've been going to River City Cafe for well over 20 years and I very rarely have a bad experience. I have probably been to all of the locations along the coast, but this one is my favorite because of the location. Visited River City Cafe for lunch one day this past week. I was drawn to the wide menu selection and the venue's location. Although it was quite chilly outside, I was thankful for the option to sit outside. Especially with COVID, I'm thankful for restaurants willing to continue outdoor seating even on the colder days. I ordered the Surf N Turf burger, which was pretty good. My group also ordered two baskets of fries; however, they didn't come with our meal and our party eventually had to ask another waitress about the fries because our waitress hadn't come back outside for us to ask in more than 15 minutes since receiving our food. The waitress severely apologized for this, and they were busy, so I'd be willing to give a second chance. TLDR? Good food, good venue, and wait staff apologizes when they know they need to improve. *Tables are close together inside, so you may be interested in take out while COVID is around. read more

We tried to have dinner here earlier in the week and even though we arrived before 530 there was a 1.5 hour wait. There were lots of large families with lots of kids dining and waiting to be seated. I suppose that's to be expected this time of year and one of the reasons why I rarely come to the beach during the peak months. The dining room was also horribly warm. We went elsewhere. Went again a couple nights ago between 830 and 9 PM and were seated right away. The dining room was still hot. The service was adequate but you could tell the younger workers were more interested in finishing their shift and leaving. I ordered one of their specialty drinks, which was horrible. I don't recommend. But I must say the hamburgers were excellent. They were served hot and fresh and I ate every bite. I had the one with shoestring onion rings and a special sauce. Very tasty. Hubby liked his also. Sweet potato fries were good but nothing out of the ordinary. Recommend if you want a good burger and are either willing to wait a long time or go during a less busy time. FYI, their menu is very limited outside of burgers and a few sandwiches. Due to the warmth and stuffiness of the dining room and my experience with a mixed drink, do not recommend it as a place to have drinks and hang out. read more

I would not recommend this place. My wife was on crutches and the elevator was broken. She made it upstairs to the hostess telling us to wait downstairs. When I informed him she was on crutches he was very nasty and said "Use the elevator". We told him it was broken and he argued again. Then he finally went downstairs and confirmed it was broken. But at this point still did not apologize. We then left and he then wanted to apologize. But to little to late. I will never go there as it was the worst customer service I ever received. The food is truly amazing! There were 6 of us, 2 of which are very picky eaters, and everyone was beyond satisfied. The view, you can tell, is normally fantastic! They come with a slightly spicy ranch sauce that we loved. Because they were out of bone-in chicken wings, I got boneless wings, which were also very good! I got the hot sauce and didn't find it very hot, more like a traditional mild sauce. Then I got a house salad, which was very cold and refreshing after our beach day! My wife ordered a burger and holy cow (pun intended) was it juicy. Perfectly cooked too! I admit I was jealous of her burger.
