Our family had takeout from Southern Chicken this week. Needed a seafood break during our stay at Myrtle. We had fried chicken, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, greens, beans and Cornbread. The food is always hot & Fresh because it's constantly coming out of the kitchen. Excellent fried chicken and BBQ, these are the house staples. The sweet potato Casserole is always yummy and so is the macaroni & cheese. Always plenty of delicious vegetables, including The Best Fried OKRA. Thursday is Fried pork chop day, so don't be late. The biggest problem I had aside from the high cost for a VERY small buffet, is all the food was so bland. The fried chicken is soooooo good. We came for the lunch buffet on a MONDAY and by 12p almost all the tables were occupied. Definitely lots of locals coming in for lunch, so you know it's good. The fried chicken on the buffet is fresh and perfectly seasoned. The sides are a bit bland BUT they go perfectly with the fried chicken (and pulled pork - vinegar heavy). They have a breakfast buffet on Fridays and Saturdays, and are open until 7p for dinner. We liked that they had disposable gloves for the buffet (but not everyone was using them). There is also a small dessert bar - banana pudding and oreo delight. Delish! Highly recommend and we hope to hit this place up again before our trip is over. read more

My wife and I are not big eaters. If you want some delicious genuine southern food, you have got to go to Southern Chicken restaurant. Nothing fancy just a clean down to earth place. We always go at least once a week. Hubby has been sneaking behind my back coming here ever since they opened. Today we showed up for lunch and I got to tell ya. Their food is awesome! Seriously. Bring stretchy sweat pants. Reasonable priced buffet got me sampling a variety of meats, sweats and sides. Chicken is breaded and fried to a golden, crispy perfection, hamburger steak is a chunk of ground beef that goes well with the mashed potatoes and gravy, pulled pork with a tangy zip, cheesy mac and cheese that was to die for. Cornbread was sweet, but more of a heavier, course texture. Not pictured was the sweet potato casserole sweetened with brown sugar and pecans. These were only a few of the many items offered. Nice to see real silverware and large glasses. Limited seating inside and a large patio outside, which needs a little TLC. Tables are rusty and no working umbrellas. Service was friendly. Three people in our party and we all ordered the one meat + three sides meal. If quantity is your goal, definitely go for the bbq pulled pork over the bbq chicken - you get about twice as much meat with the pork. The chicken was a small leg and small thigh - overpriced at $4.00 (meal minus the cost of 3 individual sides) Also be aware that the menu board at the door, the menu board on the wall, and the printed menu at the table are all different. You'll need to ask your server which is the most accurate and which items are not available. Overall good quality food at a decent price but the ordering process is convoluted.
