Our family had takeout from Southern Chicken this week. Needed a seafood break during our stay at Myrtle. We had fried chicken, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, greens, beans and Cornbread. The food is always hot & Fresh because it's constantly coming out of the kitchen. Excellent fried chicken and BBQ, these are the house staples. The sweet potato Casserole is always yummy and so is the macaroni & cheese. Always plenty of delicious vegetables, including The Best Fried OKRA. Thursday is Fried pork chop day, so don't be late. We are very glad they are now open on Sunday, which makes it very nice & easy to feed a group after Church. Always a Friendly and helpful staff. The biggest problem I had aside from the high cost for a VERY small buffet, is all the food was so bland. If you are not from the south, macaroni and cheese and desserts count as vegetables. I had the fried chicken, fried green tomatoes, potato salad, and squash. i also ordered the blueberry cobbler. The fried chicken is soooooo good. We came for the lunch buffet on a MONDAY and by 12p almost all the tables were occupied. Definitely lots of locals coming in for lunch, so you know it's good. The fried chicken on the buffet is fresh and perfectly seasoned. The sides are a bit bland BUT they go perfectly with the fried chicken (and pulled pork - vinegar heavy). They have a breakfast buffet on Fridays and Saturdays, and are open until 7p for dinner. We liked that they had disposable gloves for the buffet (but not everyone was using them). There is also a small dessert bar - banana pudding and oreo delight. Delish! Highly recommend and we hope to hit this place up again before our trip is over. read more

We always go at least once a week. Hubby has been sneaking behind my back coming here ever since they opened. Today we showed up for lunch and I got to tell ya. Their food is awesome! Seriously. Bring stretchy sweat pants. You won't be sorry. Ordered the sweet tea figuring full well I was going to have to doctor it up and add more sweetness to it like I always do. Nope. Nailed it. Now, that's my kind of sweet tea....finally. Got the chicken wrap and asked for Buffalo style but it came out regular. No biggie. Still really tasty and I'd get it again. I like spicy stuff so I'll ask for extra spicy something or other for it. The sweet potatoes.... oh my Lord.... so good. I've made sweet potatoes for years using a family recipe and this is equal if not SLIGHTLY better than mine. :-) Soooooo good. Try it. Yum. Green beans. I love me some green beans and sometimes at restaurants they're loaded with onions and other things to add flavor. Not these. They're just really deliciously made and are the star of the dish. He wants me to try and duplicate them at home; mac and cheese yes but I can't do corn bread. I have a hard time making delicious corn bread but now I don't have to. Just come here and get some to go. Got the blueberry cobbler to go. At first, the container looks small and I'm thinking we're big eaters and probably should have ordered a double. lol Got home and it was still warm. Reasonable priced buffet got me sampling a variety of meats, sweats and sides. Chicken is breaded and fried to a golden, crispy perfection, hamburger steak is a chunk of ground beef that goes well with the mashed potatoes and gravy, pulled pork with a tangy zip, cheesy mac and cheese that was to die for. Cornbread was sweet, but more of a heavier, course texture. Not pictured was the sweet potato casserole sweetened with brown sugar and pecans. These were only a few of the many items offered. Nice to see real silverware and large glasses. Limited seating inside and a large patio outside, which needs a little TLC. Tables are rusty and no working umbrellas. Service was friendly. Three people in our party and we all ordered the one meat + three sides meal. If quantity is your goal, definitely go for the bbq pulled pork over the bbq chicken - you get about twice as much meat with the pork. The chicken was a small leg and small thigh - overpriced at $4.00 (meal minus the cost of 3 individual sides) Also be aware that the menu board at the door, the menu board on the wall, and the printed menu at the table are all different. You'll need to ask your server which is the most accurate and which items are not available. Overall good quality food at a decent price but the ordering process is convoluted. In a nutshell: wanted it to be a lot better. Goods were the price, we'll stocked but limited buffet, friendly staff. Others were the bland tasting fried chicken and under seasoned veggies. If you are hungry and looking for a quick, all-you-can-eat buffet this will fit the bill. They do have a plated menu with some seafood items but didn't try those.
