My wife and I stopped by River City Cafe after a few hours at the beach, and we were starving! We started with the fried green beans as an appetizer, and they were crispy delicious. They come with a slightly spicy ranch sauce that we loved. Because they were out of bone-in chicken wings, I got boneless wings, which were also very good! I got the hot sauce and didn't find it very hot, more like a traditional mild sauce. Then I got a house salad, which was very cold and refreshing after our beach day! My wife ordered a burger and holy cow (pun intended) was it juicy. Perfectly cooked too! I admit I was jealous of her burger. Great little place to get a fantastic burger made to your preferences. We have eaten here many times in the last five years. Our latest visit was May 1, 2022. The top floor bar offers open air great view of Surfside beach and the pier which is only partially there as it has not been rebuilt from the previous storm. The provide free peanuts which I like because I love peanuts when I drink beer and the whole throwing the shell on the floor concept is good to me but if it's windy watch out as the peanut skins fly. One big issue that I have with this place is that it is not the cleanest establishment. Floors are sticky the bar stools and tables are dirty. I actually watched an employee wipe down two tables with the same rag without spraying the table down with a cleaner or moving the condiments on the table. I certainly would not eat here. read more

Honestly from all the local bars and grills in this location, I will say this place carries more flavor and options that are mouth watering. Ordered the baja blt chicken, a Buffalo chicken sandwich, an order of sweet potato waffle fries. Each option we selected was just so DAMN flavorful. Got a order of drinks. Got the pier punch which is a great infusion of pineapple juice and mango vodka. Also tried the bay breeze which was also great. Our waitress Shannon was very helpful in making our selections of food easier and helped guide us with delicious drinks. Not only did she help us, but the other staff was very friendly upon entering, truly showed their team effort and dedication to a friendly and nice vibe establishment. Great current music, delicious food, amazing drinks, why more could you ask for?! Will definitely recommend coming here to anyone that has taste buds! Restaurant is right of the beach so views are amazing. You have the option to write on the tables to "leave your mark" which is a neat idea. The seagulls were pretty annoying, people are feeding them so they are flying around and landing on the tables. Best part of the meal was the fried banana pepper rings, my burger was overcooked and dry and the coleslaw overdressed and so so. I'd like to try some other menus items, other tables were receiving food that looked delicious so feel another opportunity is more than worth it read more

Great visit. Went on a Sunday night & got seated on the deck with an ocean view. Service was prompt and spot on. Good beer selection but no drafts but that was ok. Burgers were tasty with a side of fries & a sample of slaw....Definitely ask for a table outside. Our server was great!! read more

Food was very lackluster.. Wine in plastic cups but Sarah, the server was outstanding and deserves a 10+! Prob will not go back! My answer to Management question: It took forever to get the good.. I think u were slammed at the last minute.. at least that is what Sarah said. The food was just very very average. Not very flavorful and the wine in plastic cups is the worst.. if u need plastic, get plastic wine glasses. Takes away from drink. Validated parking was a nice offering. The food is great and super filling. Would have been four stars but the last two times I have gone they were out of the blooming onions which happen to be my favorite if you can get your hands on one! I would not recommend this place. My wife was on crutches and the elevator was broken. She made it upstairs to the hostess telling us to wait downstairs. When I informed him she was on crutches he was very nasty and said "Use the elevator". We told him it was broken and he argued again. Then he finally went downstairs and confirmed it was broken. But at this point still did not apologize. We then left and he then wanted to apologize. But to little to late. I will never go there as it was the worst customer service I ever received. Service was slow. Food was mediocre. We sat inside but not at the top. It was hot inside. Just not the best experience.

I've learned to pay attention to what restaurants are known for and then order that. Though I wasn't in the mood for a burger, I saw that was River City's "bread and butter" so we all ordered one. To our surprise, we got darned good burgers that each came with generous toppings and too many fries to even finish. Burgers run about $7.50 and you can add good fries/insipid coleslaw for $2.89. Ranch on the side for fry dipping was actually pretty good. Service was very friendly. We walked in as our server was getting her tables filled a little too quickly and she was run off her feet. But who cares? We were on vacation and in no hurry and she was as sweet as could be. I mention this only because I want to acknowledge her hard work at juggling many tables at the same point in the process. We had our drinks and our ocean view and some pretty spectacular burgers so we were happy. Worth a revisit from me and a visit from you. read more

I rode over to potentially place a rather large to-go order and asked the hostess if I can have the parking validation code while I look at the menu sitting at the bar. She told me no and I had to sit down and eat there. I mentioned I am going to for sure buy food I just need the code so I can look over the menu and make the purchase and not get a parking ticket. There are no other spots close by. She still said no. What terrible service from the start. I recommend spending your money at a nicer establishment across the street. read more

The location and food this place serves up are perfect. My wife and I were at ocean Annie's and needed some food. River city is connected to the bar and they bring your food right to you. The food was brought to us fast and I was a little skeptical at first that it may not be fresh. However, I couldn't have been more wrong. My wife ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and loved it. I ordered the fried Mac n cheese burger. I ordered it medium rare and was impressed with how perfectly cooked the burger was. The fried Mac and cheese was a perfect compliment to the burger. The bun also held things together nicely. The burger itself tasted amazing and was the best I had on my trip to Myrtle. On top of the good food it is a fun atmosphere and the service was great. read more

Super creative and fun food! Lots of options, and lots of non-seafood items for people like me who are not fish fans (they still have some fish options though)! They give you peanuts to start, and you can throw the shells on the floor. I had a piña colada for my drink (drinks were super affordable). For my meal I had fried Mac n cheese with chicken rather than a burger. My chicken was a bit spicy, and honestly tasted a little fishy (maybe the seasoning) but it was good. My husband had the blackened grouper reuben and said it was amazing. We both had fries and coleslaw with ours too. This spot is right on the beach and next to the pier. We opted for the first available table, and sat inside, but it has a nice deck outside! We waited about 30 minutes or less on a Saturday night July (we were told it would be about 45 minutes). There is parking available for the restaurant, and it was full...but we were able to find a spot in the paid area right next to it. I believe the paid parking lot is free after 7. This was overall a great spot, but one thing that made me a bit sad was how wasteful it seemed. Now I don't know anything about their sustainability efforts, and I totally get that they are doing what's best for business, but they use plastic utensils, straws, and paper table covers. They also have hard plastic stadium like cups, that I think you can take with you, but I have a feeling they just trash these if you don't. I hope they are really careful about all these single use items and making sure they don't end up on the beach (peanut shells included). read more

Lady at the service desk said we'd wait 25 minutes and it ended up being less than 10. Amazing food including the best Buffalo sauce I've ever tried and an incredible view if you sit outside. Great experience coming from Michigan on vacation. Souvenir cups go hard asf too. Highly recommend. read more

We've been coming to Myrtle Beach for 30 plus years and this is our first year without our children so we decided we are going to try out all the spots! River City Cafe has a great menu and a Beachy vibe so we had to check it out. Aside from being out of a couple of key items It did not disappoint! I had the Fork and Knife Burger and it was exactly what I was in the mood for! Perfectly cooked and fresh! That gravy tho! My Hubby had the Black and Blue Burger but was disappointed in the distribution of the Cajun seasoning on his burger. It was concentrated in one clump. Otherwise it was delicious! The Big Dawg more than made up for any other shortcomings!!! Raisins in coleslaw actually works People!! Addicting! I had to get the Gator T-shirt so I can advertise this place to the World, LOL! Our server Margaret was a machine! She was hustling and busy and had an amazing attitude! She was spot on with everything! A true pro! We will definitely be returning! Updated Friday: My 13 year old really wanted to go back to see if he could get his burger with the side he wanted. I gave in and we went to lunch today, figuring the bad server wouldn't be there. I was right and we had a great waiter. He was attentive and everything came out right the first time. The food was great--especially the cheese curds. So I'm updating my rating from 2 to 3 stars. The reason it's not more is because we have family friends in town who decided to try dinner last night despite our warnings. It sounds like they had the same rude, snippy server we had and they were missing things and never got it resolved. She really needs to go. We visited last night (a Monday) for dinner and had a great experience. Great service and great food. Came back today with additional people and it was a disaster. Server was short and snippy--didn't listen and would cut us off when we were ordering. Not surprisingly the food wasn't right and it took several tries and quite a long amount of time to get it made right. Both of my kids ate without sides they had requested and were done before she even came back and when she did she never asked if everything was okay. The food we did get was good but it was not an experience we will repeat. read more

This place apparently has more business than they need. I was sat at the bar and walked out after 20 minutes when no one but the patron beside me acknowledged my existence. There seemed to be plenty of staff and they walked all around me, complaining about tips customers left. Not one made eye contact. I used to love this location. We stopped in today at lunch. I ordered a house salad and my husband ordered a hotdog We received our drink order straight away but our food never arrived. A table of six was seated just as we were. They ate and left and we still had no food. Our server never checked on us, never gave us an explanation. When my husband went up to her to say that we were tired of waiting, of course she said we were next up and they were busy. We said we would just settle up and leave. An hour waiting for a salad and a hotdog was enough of a wait. There are plenty of places to eat at Surfside Beach, I would pick anywhere else. read more

Absolutely wonderful food! Absolutely horrible customer service! Wait time was 2 hours (b/c social distancing). Decided to get food to go. I was at the hostess stand. "No, I can't take your order. You will have to call." I said okay. I tried to call for over 10 minutes while at the hostess stand, mind you. After 60 busy calls. I went back to the hostess. "Can I please give you our order?" The teenage girl at the stand said, "No, the servers are upstairs." I went upstairs to another hostess stand. "Can I give you my order?" The teenager there said, "No, you have to call." 20 busy calls later I finally got someone. Great views on the top floor and great food made to order! The only thing to note is that this place can have quite a wait due to social distancing measures so notate that before just showing up. Our waiter recommended us some great drinks, including something with grape in it? Most of the party got burgers but I got the spicy chicken sandwich and loved the presentation and the heat factor.
