Daniel has had my car for 3 years. It was supposed to be done in 6 months when he took it. I have called him every 2 weeks sometimes every week. He answers and lies to me for 2 years that he will be finished and deliver it to me. This is a car that has special meaning to me as it belong to my deceased father. My name is Phillip G.I am a retired Sergeant with JSO and I am a Veteran serve in the United States Marine Corp but I have a major problem I really need your help in getting some answers from "The Workshop" formerly name River City Powder Coating. The owner, Dan Straatsma has had my Acura SUV for over 6 years to put in an engine and transmission. He was paid in a cashiers check from my credit union (community first credit union) for $2900 of the $4500 in May of 2018 and was suppose to be paid the remaining $1600 when the job was completed in 3 months but he has failed to do so my Acura SUV. I have went to his place of business at least 30-40 times in the past 6 years to no avail.   He has been promising me my Acura Suv for over 6 years and 5 months now. Every week for 6 years and 5 mos he has been giving me one excuse after another. Sometimes he ignores my calls all together and won't even answer my calls or texts .  I have numerous text messages, voice mails messages and even agreed recorded conversation from him and myself where Dan has promising me deadlines after deadline  from my Acura being completed. Originally the completion date was supposed to be August of 2018. I have been very patient with him but I'm  tired of him playing with me my time,my money and playing with feelings and him knowing the memories of my Acura that me and my deceased daughter shared and him (Dan) keep promising deadlines that he don't go through with.  My SUV is very sentimental because my deceased daughter loved that SUV  and I promised it to her when she turned 16 but unfortunately she passed away from leukemia at the tender  age of 11 but the day before she passed away she wanted me and her mom to pick her up from Children hospital in our Acura SLX and we did but the next day she passed away 11-9-1999 . So, I promise myself that when I retired from the Sheriff Department that one day I would have my Acura remodel in honor of her (My Daughter Ja'nella ). , what sad is that Dan knows all of this and what this Acura means to me but apparently he doesn't care and my patience is wearing very thin with him.  Before i placed my Acura in his shop, I had just had gotten my Acura remodeled for over $5000 including paint job and body works redone on my Acura SLX remodel from1996 to a 1999 with under custom work done from another shop and they done a wonderful job. but now whenever I go to Dan 's shop My Acura has scratches and dents on it and the paint clear coat is peeling off and my interior in the seats has cracked and it is my opinion, it's being treated like shit; excuse my language but I don't know what else to do sir.  Can someone please help me  with this? Dan, usually does good work and he have been working on my vehicles for years before this job and I have always paid him on time. I don't know what else to do because I can't get the past 6 years and 5 mos of time back. Then when he gets mad he say things like "well if you can't wait, I can give you your money back and place your Acura outside my shop gates . But the problem with that is the Acura being rewired and modified for a 6.0 GM when it originally had a 3.2 liters. I even asked him on numerous occasions if he can't do it  just put another Acura engine and transmission inside it but be promise he could and that if he couldn't he would not have suggest it, but I can't tell because it's now 6 years and five mos later and still no Acura.  The address and phone number is listed below.  P.S. First and foremost, RCPC does quality work for the best price in Jacksonville. I price shopped 6 shops around the area and they made it easy to do an quick while saving about $200 total. Just drop your car off and pick it up looking great! I've had two sets of wheels done here, both blew my expectations away. All the folks complaining about how long it takes must have had special or in depth projects. I was in and out in one day. The guys are a small independent shop, you may not get through on the phone every time, but it's because the owner is in the shop! If your looking to get through to a desk, go spend an additional few hundred bucks at a chain location. If you want quality work at the best price, be patient and wait your turn. read more

Dan is quite possibly the worst business man I've ever dealt with. I have brought Dan a lot of business, more than he deserves, and every single time my experiences are tainted in excuses as to why the job could not be complete. He requires payment UP FRONT, yet still fails to deliver even slightly adequate results in any kind of timely manner. I was really amazed at how many excuses he was able to come up with but after reading many other reviews about Dan and RCPC, I've learned this is a habit for him to treat his customers like this. I am STILL waiting on Dan to get back to me after contacting him YET AGAIN over a week in a half ago regarding finishing the job he butchered on my car. I hired this company in the past to powder coat ammo lOckers for a Navy Warship and they did an absolutely outstanding job. I can tell you that those lockers are still in excellent shape despite beiNg beat up by the normal wear and tear by our Sailors. I got quotes from every major powder coating company in Jacksonville to have my X5 wheels powder coated gloss black. This was the best price and also the only company that offered to keep the car in a safe facility, take the wheels off of the car, dismount them, powder coat, re-mount, balance and put them back on the car in 2 days! Do not use this company, if you want anything actually powder coated! I dropped 3 Yeti cups almost 3 years ago to be powder coated and 3 years later we still do not have the cups back. I have been up there at least 2 dozen times and each time I get a new excuse on why they are not ready. We haven't had time, they are in storage, I don't have the key to the storage shed. So then when I went up there to just get the cups back (Yeti's are not cheap!) new excuses started they have already been sand blasted come back tomorrow and they will be done. Come back the next day or two and they are again back in storage or he doesn't have the key. I understand this is a low price item, but if you don't have the time don't take the work because now I am out $150 in Yeti cups. This company is a joke!!!! read more

The good news is they do good work and back up their work. However their commitment to their delivery of a finish product has a lot to be desired. Had to return to have my project completely redone due to the fact that the process was flawed. They backed up their work. It took 3 months before I could get them to commit to resolving my issue. Called them to have more work done in which they told me to bring in the project and they would have it done within the week weather permitting. After 8 days and at least 5 great sunny low humidity days I heard nothing. I called and was told to give them till the middle of the following week in which the project would be finished. I told them go ahead and I'll give them an extra 3 days from their projected time frame. I never heard back and waited an extra 8 days after that. After calling them to find out if my project was completed they stated that they hadn't even started and provided excuses. Regardless they could have simply picked up the phone and given me a call to give me a status update. I'm very understanding when it comes to honesty and good ole fashion communication and customer care. They completely dropped the ball on the most basic customer service skill with is communication as well as not providing me with truthful time frames. Since this is the second time I encountered this scenario, of not meeting the agreed time frames, I have decided to not recommend this business. Customer service is so important part of any business. They did not even try to negotiate with me to repair the relationship or keep me a customer. They could have provided me with options such as re-negotiating the price, etc. All business have opportunities that causes challenges within a business, however with that said there is no substitute for good ole customer care and simple follow up. read more

Had to get new tires on my yellow vette. Figured I would get wheels powder coated black while tires off. RCPC was the only place I could find to take off old tires, PC rims, and put the new tires on. Everyone else required the wheels be brought in....making the process much more difficult. I also bought some yellow caliper covers and was going to have them put on too. They talked me out of it in lieu of PC'ng the actual calipers instead. It was good advice and had them do it. What an outstanding job Dan and his team did.
