We come here about once a week, I think everyone in River Oaks does! The food is always fast, hot, and tasty; the servers are friendly, and take great care of their guests. After all the positive reviews on yelp, my family and I decided to try this place. We were seated right away and our server was excellent. Service overall was great during the entire duration of the meal. The food however wasn't great. 90% of our party's food coming out was cold. Seemed to taste like the sausage and the hash browns were frozen and just warmed up. Everything was pretty bland tasting. Anywhere I travel, I try to find a local place to eat to get a genuine taste of the area. As a first time visitor to the great state of Texas, I was not disappointed. In town for a wedding, I arrived with a Foodie "Bucket List". One of the items on that list was Real Texas Chili. Being from the east coast in Virginia, most people prefer their chili "Yankee Style". Well, I may be from the the east coast where beans are aplenty in chil,i but I am not one of those people. I prefer my chili (which my family calls 'hot dog chili') meaty with flavor and heat. I researched locations heavily and found that River Oaks Cafe would be a perfect fit. Tucked into a small strip shop, River Oaks screamed old-school diner and I instantly felt at home. My server, Robin (whom I recognized from a Yelp review) was as friendly as every reviewer says she is and more. I was also introduced to Buck, the owner and cook extraordinaire. I explained my goal in trying some authentic Texas Red and when I said where I was from and Virginia chili philosophy, he sternly stated, "You're in Texas. They're aren't any beans in Chili." He served me up a bowl of the 14 spice chili and I was not disappointed. Just the right amount of heat and very filling. I also spoke with a few regulars who tried to tempt me into trying their plate-covering pancake, but Buck talked me into perhaps the richest piece of chocolate cake I've had in a very long time. Should you be passing through Fort Worth and looking for a place to grab a bite to eat, chat with the locals, and get some authentic Texas chili, I highly recommend River Oaks Cafe. read more

I absolutely love coming here! The staff is so friendly that they are a living embodiment of southern hospitality. The food is very inexpensive especially for what you get. The portions are huge, but they also have a smaller ears section for those that do not have a large appetite. I have never been compelled to write a review for any restaurant but River Oaks Cafe has earned it! First of all, I adore the people there. The owner is so sweet. One day she went to her car to get a coloring book for my daughter even though they were swamped. Though anything you eat from the HUGE pancakes to the pulled pork tacos are cooked to perfection and deserve a medal for comforting home cooking, it is the service and down home kindnesses I am most impressed with. I love seeing the older people there who are always sweet to my children and the waitresses who seem genuinely happy to serve you.
