If I can give this place 10 stars I would. Family owned and you can feel the love in this place. Everything here is delicious. We come here for the posole and micheladas. Love chatting with the servers always so professional and kind even when restaurant is busy. Love this place.

We had a really good lunch and the service was great and the ambiance was quirky. I had the #1 combination and the enchilada was especially good.

Just got the tiniest cup of guacamole to go at Rivera's. $11! Yes, it comes with some chips, but I feel ripped off. Next time I'll just have to make it myself.

I came here because I was craving pozole and Rivera's didn't disappoint. The pozole was very rich and hearty. And had great flavor. The meat was generous compared to a few places I've been to. I also ordered the mini flautas which were really good as well - crispy and meaty. I was surprised by the size which was bigger than I had anticipated. Yay for me. Not pictured but also tried a burrito based on other reviewers. Everything inside the burrito was tasty and well balanced. Since I ordered pick up I cannot comment on the restaurant side because there is a separate "to-go" room on the corner of the restaurant with its own entrance. But the service was friendly and welcoming. And even the small area had cute decor.

Absolutely my favorite Mexican restaurant!!! Two Enchiladas beans and rice. And Regular Tostada salad.

Rivera's is a great family own business. The food is very authentic and just the right amount of spicy flavor. The service is amazing and fast. Jorge and Ana are the best people. Excellent experience! Came here for Mother's Day with family and friends and the food was amazing. The staff were very fast and attentive, totally locked in. The live music by Andres and Tita (T-Ta Project) were super electric and a lot of fun. Thank you Rivera's, we will definitely be back!

Came here on a Tuesday around 11am did a reservation over the phone. Street parking, two bathrooms, attentive service. Menu kinda small but everything we ordered was good. Got the wet burritos they were warm and big. The chips and salsa were good. The Jamica juice was good amount of sweet. The menudo was a bit spicy but good texture. All in all would come again.

This restaurant is in the neighborhood that I grew up in, but I had never eaten there! It looks small, and maybe focused on takeout from the street, but looks can be deceiving! Inside is actually a fairly large dining room, encompassing 3 rooms. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. It is apparent that many customers are regulars. The food is excellent and authentic Mexican fare. Prices are fair. The decor is vibrant and interesting! All I all, it was a very enjoyable experience with my family. I'm sorry it's taken me so long to stop in!! I'll be back.

If you want authentic Mexican food this is the place for you! It's located on a busy street and parking can be a bit tricky depending on the time you come. We came as an office ( 5 of us)for lunch on Tuesday afternoon and found parking across the street. We were greeted at the door and sat down right away. We were offered chips and salsa. We looked through the menu a few minutes and our orders were taken. Our waiter was attentive and checked on us throughout our time there( and refilling our drinks as needed). Our food maybe took about 10-15 min to come out. For appetizers we shared shredded beef flautas which were delicious! They came with sour cream, salsa and guacamole. For my a drink I ordered an horchata was the perfect amount of sweet and rice flavor. For my entree I ordered the crispy chicken tacos combo that came with rice and beans. Very flavorful and authentic taste like I mentioned above. I will definitely be back here for a date night with the hubby!

Amazing pork tamale with fresh green chili , with the perfect amount of masa. I brought it home to try, and as always, it was excellent.

The food is phenomenal, it gets better every time I go because I try something new all the time, today I had the pozole, it was perfect, with warm tortillas and a ice cold beer. I brought home a pork tamale and it was over the top cooked to perfection. I love this friendly family owned restraunt, their hospitality is so warm and inviting, no matter how busy they are. I had heard good things and been wanting to try the place for a while. Other than the parking(but of course that's Long Beach) we had a most excellent experience! Careful cause I didn't realize they close kind of early on Sundays, but we got in just in time. The food was really good, but the price was what will keep me coming back!!! It's rare you can get a meal for under $20 but here u can plus good size portions! There's a lot of decor inside, but let me tell u, they have a really incredible banquet room! And very reasonably priced from what we were told. Almost trying to come up with a reason to have an event to use the banquet room! Hah, definitely give the place a try if you're in the area.

Intimate setting with delicious food. Plenty chips and salsa too. I ordered the taco (chicken) and enchilada(chicken) combo with rice/beans and a regular margarita on the rocks. This was my first time visiting and the wait staff were awesome and very attentive. I will definitely return. read more

This is a true LB hidden gem. The dinning room is charming and the service was excellent. All the food I've had has been great, but I'm partial to the carne asada.... in any form you order it. Take out is fast and hot too. Try this spot and you'll love it. read more

Their food is so good and original I moaned the entire time uncontrollably eating my meal even the dam salsa is off the chain..I honestly had a dream about the place that same night. Dig this place so much that I came here 2 days in a row. Honey loves the posole and I dig the chicken flautas. It's kind of a weird set up. Order on one side, sit on the other or take out. The decor is pretty tits, the salsa is some of the best around and even free refills on the horchada. Our server both times is johnny on the spot. Not to mention, it's walking distance to the crib. Go here! read more

My favorite Mexican in LB. I've been to a couple other local places where you have to wait for an hour to get a table, but I prefer the food here. The couple who run this place are super friendly and helpful, and our food is always perfect. So far everything we've had was delicious - wet burritos, fajitas, flan, tostadas, etc. I haven't written a review before since I don't want this place to get too crowded, but they deserve it. read more

Such a nice place, friendly, clean and most importantly the food was AMAZING! My friend and I both had chicken tostadas, they were so big they could not be finished in one sitting! I've been looking for some really good Mexican good in the Long Beach area that is close to my job downtown. I saw the reviews and it seemed like everyone really liked this place. The hard shell chicken taco was amazing! I had to start eating meat since I'm pregnant to help keep me full (protein) and this is the first chicken I've eaten in years and it was delicious. I also ordered the cheese enchilada plate and it was good. Of course I'm a New Mecca Cafe fan (Pittsburg, CA) so I'm really hard and basis when it comes to Mexican food, this is a place that I will definitely go back to! The salsa was really good too! the serving of rice was small, the beans were pretty good, and the place was clean! Good service too! read more

Rivera's rocks! My in-laws introduced me to this pot of Mexican gold in Long Beach and I swear, it's some of the best Mexican food I've had...since being in Mexico on my honeymoon! I've brought a ton of people here to this quaint restaurant and every single person really really loves it! My absolute favorite are the enchiladas. Cheese please! I used to order the taquitos all the time, which have definitely put up some competition to the cheesy wonderousness of the enchiladas, but it's the sauce that wins me over! There is no words to describe that sauce! It's fan-friggin-tastic! The beers are always cold and served with a mug if you so desire and the chips and salsa are pretty tasty too! I've tried a few other items on the menu and have never, ever been disappointed! Being family owned and operated makes this place even better! The service is second to none and Jorge (who normally serves us) knows my in-laws and even knows their orders! He's polite enough to make sure it's what they want that evening, but nonetheless he's a total sweetheart! I could go on and on about Rivera's so go try it for yourself! Parking is a pain, so be careful if you've got to cross 7th Street! read more

Found Rivera's by Googling Mexican Restaurants in Long Beach -- all the reviews told us this was where we wanted to go -- 8 of us, including a pre-teen and a toddler. AMAZING food, service and casual "Diego Rivera" ambiance -- the BEST Chili Verde -- PERFECT margarita -- OUTSTANDING pozole -- INCREDIBLE meaty tamales -- WONDERFUL salsa and chips (and bottomless!) Special attention to all of us! -- AND it didn't break the bank! We plan to be back -- perhaps breakfast Saturday morning before we head home to Oregon. MUY BIEN!! read more

Excellent atmosphere, love the decor, the service was terrific and the food was great. Had the asada torta, and asada, carnitas, and chicken tacos. Amazing! For dessert churros with cajecta filling, vanilla ice cream, with a side of chocolate for dipping. Fantastic. Not to mention they chill their mugs for your cold beer. Yum yum yum!! read more

This is one of my favorite Mexican food places for a sit-down meal (they offer take-out next door, but I usually dine-in). There's one main guy who is usually serving there, and he's always really nice. The art on the walls and the atmosphere are great. It's usually not very crowded, which is hard to understand. Their chips and salsa are probably the best I've ever had. There are certain Mexican dishes that I usually never order because my hometown restaurants make them better than anywhere else, but everything I've tried here is just as good as anywhere else I've eaten, if not better. I would eat here every meal if I had the money! read more

There food is delicious!!!! I really like their pozole!!! It definitely tastes home made. When ever we order food to be delivered to my workplace, we always agree to order from here. They cannot be compared to Super Mex because Super Mex does not have that authentic taste in their meals. Did I mention their pozole is DELICIOUS!! :-) read more

If you are ever looking for a great Mexican restaurant that also does outstanding catering, I would strongly recommend Riveras. They go out of their way to produce outstanding food, superb service and at a very reasonable price. I first started going to their restaurant about six years ago. Then I started using them to cater work-related parties. They have catered events of over 5000 people for me, Christmas parties, formal lunches, and small parties at my home. No matter the event....it always turns out perfectly! It is a family-owned and operated restaurant and the Rivera's have become an important part of my family. Epic fail! Was excited to try out breakfast based on reviews.. after struggling to find a parking and walking a long ways with the family, I was disappointed to see it was closed at 9am. On Yelp says open at 9am.. I was told it was not open until 10 after the fact read more

Amazing authentic Mexican. Our waiter was so nice and helpful. I enquired about a drink and he brought 2 different samples to try. We ordered fajitas and tacos. They were both absolutely delicious. So good that we are considering going back before our trip is over!! read more

This review is longoverdue. After reading previous reviews we had Rivera's cater our party a year ago and the food was amazing, reasonably priced, delivered on time, and all of our guests loved it! We ordered the steak picado, chicken fajitas, chips, salsa, can't remember what else. Since then we've been back to the restaurant several times. I love supporting family businesses and this one is a great one. read more

Looking for an authentic Mexican meal with wonderful ambience, this is it! Not in the best of areas but when it comes to food it is pure perfection! Meet the Business Owner: Virgilio “George sr.” R.

Started off, as a dishwasher, in 1977 in Long Beach CA. Over the years ,moved myself up to a line cook, then to a Sou-Chef and with hard work and determination , I eventually became the Executive Chef of the Queen Mary . After a life-changing decision, My wife (Nieves ) and I decided to take the next step by establishing my own little restaurant in Compton CA, in 1994 . When the opportunity came in 2001, to open up another location in Long Beach , we took it without hesitation. With the help of our family , we have been in business over 26 years . We make everything from scratch,no short cuts. The freshness and quality of the food is proven by its flavor and as long as I’m alive, it will be the only way we will be doing things here at Riveras, everything fresh-every day . We appreciate all the support and love , Long Beach has given us over the years, hope our family can help your family enjoy a pleasant meal !!

What time do you close on Friday nights? Yelp says 7, and your website says 8. That's very early for dinner on a weekend.

We do close at 7pm, we are a family own business with only one shift. We come very early to prep for the day. If you are in by 7pm we would gladly serve you, sense we leave everyday until 8:30pm. Hope to see you.

How big is the outdoor dining area in regards to social distancing?

It is a few tables spread out along the sidewalk next to the restaurant. The tables seemed spaced out pretty decently with plenty of room between. I haven't sat there, just saw the outdoor dining when picking up food or passing by.

It's so tiny but the fact it's about $5 was perfect. I have never had something so well priced and portioned before. We were told an estimated wait time and received a text when our table was ready, but we missed the notification and checked back in about 10-15 minutes later. We completely understood that our original table had been given away. We were then seated at a table we weren't comfortable with and politely asked if we could wait for another option. We made it clear we were willing to wait. Instead of being treated courteously, we were met with eye-rolling, dismissive responses, and a tone that made us feel unwelcome. When I later asked if there was an estimate on the wait, I was again met with a curt response that felt unnecessarily hostile by the same hostess. At that point, we decided to leave. What disappointed me most wasn't the wait or the table assignment. Restaurants get busy, and we understand that. It was the feeling that, after years of visiting this establishment, we were treated like an annoyance rather than valued customers by the same hostess lady. One would hope that being married to a manager would inspire higher standards of customer service, not the impression that basic professionalism is optional in the hospitality industry. Great margaritas bring people in. Consistently good customer service is what keeps them coming back.

When we had an unexpected problem with the venue's linens, George and Ana immediately stepped in to help, providing extra linens without a second thought. The ceiling has a bunch of plants and vines intertwined throughout the dining room, and there is a lot of art all around for patrons to enjoy. The cute decor came as a bit of a surprise compared to what the restaurant looks like on he outside, which I kind of enjoyed. My mom and I even got to dine with Frida Kahlo! When you're dining, you can enjoy music and different artsy items on the wall giving it a perfect ambiance. Their food selection is traditional and tastes just as if you were in Mexico. Their portions are generous and Don Virgilio, the Chef, prepares everything fresh. If you order soup, be ready to wait a few minutes because he is making it from scratch. With all their condiments and fresh salsa (I like it spicy) you will have a pleasant meal. Rivera's is amazing! The food, the service, the whole vibe--everything was perfect. I had the Wet Combination Plate, and it was packed with flavor and smothered in the perfect amount of sauce. We also tried the Camarones a la Diabla, and they had just the right amount of heat. The staff was super friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. I really love this place...and i crave it at times. they have great asada tortas and the servers are always friendly :) i have never had a problem with soggy or smashed tortas like one of the previous reviewers talked about...not even when i have ordered from the to go section of the restaurant. all my friends love it also. they have good prices and its cute inside. soooo basically, i think everyone should try it out! read more

Soon as you walk in on a Hot Day its Sir Conditioned and has Great Ambiance !!!! I had such a Great Experience. Everything is Delicious !!! The nachos! The huge wet burritos! What else can I say.. go have their food. A friend took me there recently and I was hooked. Took my brother and he was hooked. The staff is friendly which I think it's the family running the show. The older lady taking orders and the man cooking tells you they know how to run the biz. read more

After a walk through the Village, Soho and Nolita day my friend and I dined at Rivera's and was a great choice. Very good, cheap and good service muyy food. The home is very peculiar, we liked.
