I've been dining here for years and I've been pleased most of the time. There have been a few missteps, mainly with consistent plating, so I still give this place a strong, 4-star review. First of all the location is hard to beat. It sits right on the Rogue River and has a lot of patio dining that's terraced right over the water! My favorite time of day is to go in for a late lunch or early dinner to partake in the beautiful setting before night fall. They have an extensive menu with lots of tasty entrees. A couple of my favorites are: Seafood linguini, Wild caught halibut and their ribeye steak with Dungeness crab on top. For appetizers I recommend their crispy calamari or their tender beef bites with a wasabi cream drizzle (see pic). The restaurant is always clean and organized and the staff is friendly and helpful. Service here lately the last 2 years is horrible. To even sit outside you need reservations, but the food is mediocre. The drinks are terrible, cheap liquor in some of them. Waitstaff can be standoffish and impatient. You get stars because of the ambiance and being able to sit close to the river and having a decent outdoor patio. Where do we start...the adventure we had at this restaurant was one of a kind. I struggle with the stars. I think it deserves 2.5 stars but since I can't do that I rounded down. So we had a 7:30 reservation, we were running a few minutes late, so we called. They said no problem! We get there 10 minutes after our original reservation. They were nice and said no worries. The hostess was new but very nice and trying her best. We waited in the lobby for a few minutes while other people were being seated. We had asked to be seated outside, the waitress told us that she had a table for us on the patio, when she went to seat us she realized someone else was sat at our table. She apologized and seated us in the lounge. She said that some tables were finishing up and as soon as they left they would move us outside. It was 7:56pm, right when we got seated and the bartender told us that the kitchen closes at 8pm and they don't allow orders past that time. Which is slightly off putting since they literally just seated us. Then our waiter came right over to tell us we needed to order. Seems like maybe the kitchen could be open slightly later but maybe grants pass closes down early. Luckily we got our order in right in time. We were waiting for drinks when our waiter went up to the bartender and loudly yelled "where we raging tonight?!" Mind you this space is very small and the ambiance is one of an old folks home cafeteria. There were several tables now open outside so someone from our party went to go ask the hostess about moving (which she said we could do when she sat us). She then said "we don't seat people after 8pm, sorry guy". It was like the twilight zone. Soon after that our waiter raced up to us and said "ready to move outside??" Which we really appreciated. The outside area is very lovely. So, our waiter was great. Very accommodating and fast moving. He did seem to maybe have some type of extra something in his system. Continually tugging at his shirt and mask, almost like a twitch that would not stop. Again he was very nice. However he did spill a little wine on the table and wiped it off with his hand. A little different... The music outside was a lovely addition, the guy playing was super nice and friendly. He also was very talented. The food came out and it was surprisingly very good and well cooked. Overall it was a very strange experience. The inside has an awful atmosphere and vibe. The outside is great. I think the staff is trying but they were obviously far more concerned about doing more raging then working. As we were leaving all the staff were standing in a line toward the exit as if they were so glad we were leaving. It was like a procession line...that really just topped of the bizarre night in Grants Pass. I'm glad it was not a murder mystery dinner or else we might not have made it out alive. read more

Went back to give them another try and was not dissapointed. The calamari was excellent, the roasted beet salad had allot if roasted beets in it and was extremely flavorful. My wife had the Salmon, it was good, but a little dry, I had the lamb T-bone chops and they were tender and very flavorful. The homemade Raspberry sorbet was excellent. While visiting southern Oregon we were staying in an AirBnb close to here. My husband found this gem of a place on google, I'm so glad he did. We liked it so much we visited twice in one week. Their main seller, LOCATION. There are right on the Rogue! I suggest you request the lower patio, the sound of the water and the view are phenomenal. Then there's live music on the patio as well, huge plus. Now let's talk about what we came here for... food and drink. Everything we tried was good! We stopped here on a long drive along the highway. We were having a tough trip after just losing our dog that day. It was very quiet inside on a weekday afternoon. Maybe the server could tell we were having a rough go, but she gave us the prettiest view of the river even though the other guests were in a separate section, let us pick the background music, and even gave me a few tips on how to try making my own blackened cod seasoning at home. The food was fresh, yummy and filling. I had the fish tacos and my husband had the burger with the pork belly on it. The house Caesar salad had really fresh greens and a nice bright dressing. The non alcoholic blackberry lemonade tasted home made. It was a welcome reprieve from endless fast food chains! And I'll always appreciate the kind atmosphere. read more

True it's name, River's Edge is right by the Rogue River. With outdoor dining available, it was unfortunately too windy to sit outside. The indoor dining area had big windows so you can still enjoy the view. I enjoyed the Pink Diamond Martini (4 stars) with fruity flavors from peach schnapps, pineapple, and raspberries. Our party of five shared and enjoyed the Spinach Artichoke Dip (4 stars), and it came with delicious bread. I ordered the Pistachio Crusted Pacific Salmon (3 stars). This dish included a honey mustard glaze, sautéed brussels sprouts, and sweet potato puree. Although the salmon was cooked perfectly, they rest of the items on the dish were all too sweet. It needed something salty or acidic to balance it out. I should have just ordered the grilled salmon special of the day, which sounded simple and delicious. We had no room for dessert. Service (4 stars) was great with friendly hosts and servers. They even have a musician playing during dinner. Overall, it's nice spot to get good food and drinks with a lovely view. read more

We went there few weeks ago, and found the food to be only so so, nothing what we have experienced before. Didn't think of much. This past weekend friends of mine on our recommendation went. Worst experience ever they said. Very small portions, they said, overcooked steaks, and other discrepancies. But the worse the new owners refused to honor a gift certificate stating "we are the new owners, and will not honor those old cards". REALLY? I visited a couple days ago for a simple take out order for chowder and dessert.... Hardly no one in restaurant as it was around 4:00 it took forever to get 2 items. The clam chowder should have been named potato chowder, huge rounds of potatoes as I've never seen. I have attempted calling multiple times in the past 2 days they never pick up the phone. Came here for my boyfriend's birthday last month while vacationing in Oregon. The food and drinks were excellent! The Oregon Mule was so good and we both loved the Bone Marrow appetizer. Food presentation was especially amazing. However, despite having a reservation we had to wait over 15 minutes to be sat. After being sat, service was just okay. Our waitress took a while to come to our table and didn't check on us or our drinks throughout the meal- but there was only one other table in our entire section. Overall, I'd say this was the best food we had while staying in Grants Pass, but service could be improved upon. read more

Just because a menu sounds interesting doesn't mean it's going to be good. Sometimes a relatively conservative menu can reveal delicious gems. I have a friend who has a rule: If the menu offers "the wedge", he orders that salad. He's not an adventurous eater but he loves a wedge. The Rivers Edge offers a wedge, and steaks, and salmon, and a veggy option. It's a pretty standard simple menu. So it's easy for the gastronomically minded to dismiss this place out of hand. That would be a mistake. We started with the house recommended cocktail - a habanero infused vodka martini with passion fruit, and an old fashioned flavored with bacon. Both were utterly delicious. We ordered another martini. We shared an appetizer - the pork belly. It was served with a tzatziki yogurt dressing with shaved cucumber. It was Smokey, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, with a chocolatey, slightly spicy crust. Delicious. For the mains we ordered the lamb shank and the duck breast with a side of mashed potato which we're both really well made and delicious. The portions were generous and I found myself verging on force feeding toward the end. I just didn't want to leave anything on the plate. In another review of the same dishes somebody claimed the duck was chewy and the lamb not tender - not ours. Both were top notch. Our first and second choices for desert has run out so we settled on the daily special: the Ube Cheesecake. This desert was dark purple on a golden crust. Looked other worldly and was garnished with edible flowers. It tasted amazing. Light, with a truly interesting flavor. Not expected but very enjoyable. We finished off with a local desert wine that tasted like a find tawny port but was less viscous, more like a sherry in texture. Gonna buy a bottle. Really lovely. The staff were charming, welcoming, loved our dog, attentive and overall delightful. There simply isn't a single negative thing to say about this place. It doesn't have the decor that screams "fine dining" but in my experience places that do often serve up lack luster food. The Rivers Edge is good, honest, well made tasty food for people who have sophisticated taste. We'd return eagerly. read more

Absolutely, you can not beat the ambiance, the food, service of this magnificent restaruant. The halibut was cooked to perfection in a mango, cantaloupe sauce. Cheers for the chef for us ingenious combinations that awaken the pickiest of palates (like mine) We have been to this establishment a 12 times and everytime they beat our expectations. I forgot to mention the guitarist they have is an extremely talented musician that plays throughout the evening as you enjoy your meal. This is a MUST visit, for anytime or a special occasion. People play music on guitars and sing, some of them are good at it. Some of them kinda stuck. Got the tenderloins and they were wonderful. The first time. They melted in my mouth. The plating made it seem like sushi. The sauces were and still are terrific but the way the sauce was presented the first time for me was amazing the way it went in wavy lines. Almost like artwork. The second time I went there the tenderloins were tougher, burnt, not pretty plating either. And the sauce was just kinda smothered all over all 3 plates I ordered. Also I went outdoors this time and was eaten alive by Flys and bees and hornets. They should really get some netting. The first time I went. Waiter seemed professional. Gave me great recommendations for food and alcohol. They have a drink that is like an orange Creamsicle but not orange flavored. It's great. The second time I went, waiter was stupid. Told her I like sweet alcoholic drinks and she recommended nothing good. Brought me 3 drinks I didn't drink more than a gulp of each. They were really bad. A tiny 4oz fillet cooked to no pink was 42$-we asked for medium rare. No included salad or soup a 4 oz salmon cooked dry w 2 fingerling potatoes the size of my little finger& no additional veggies was 36$-specifically asked for not dry, no soup or salad included. While in Southern Oregon, I was scrolling through FB and noticed a list of restaurants that had great outdoor seating. This restaurant was on the list. On this day it was nice but it appeared to be threatening rain. We still elected to sit outside. Very nice out there. I had to wear my coat but it was a great to have a view of the Rogue river while we had our salads. They had a great salad which I added salmon to a great meal. Great food and great atmosphere. It looks quite fancy inside but most people were dressed very casually on this Sunday afternoon. I would love to drop in again on a warm sunny day for a drink by the river. Came here for the great reviews and "allergy aware" menu. Our meal started great until we noticed very small pieces of croutons in a salad that was supposed to gluten free. This is important as there is a CELIAC ALLERGY not just a gluten free preference . We had to leave within the next ten minutes and the affected individual was throwing up the rest of the night. Amazing views of the beautiful and wild rogue river of you sit outside! We came on a Thursday night and the restaurant was relatively slow. Being in the food industry I was surprised i waited almost 20 minutes to get my Servers attention. When we finally did we had to ask for water and when it came the glass was dirty with lipstick marks from the person who used the glass before me when I asked for a new glass from the guy bussing the table next to us because our server couldn't be found he didn't offer any kind of apology, just took the glass and resurfaced 15 minutes later with a new glass. Our sever was not very friendly and had terrible, terrible body odor. The only thing that saved my review from a 1 to a 3 for this place was the food. It was warm when we got it and it was very, very good tasting! Overall, great views of the river, the cooks know what their doing, unfortunately the front of house killed our experience from details like having silverware at the table, clean dishes all the way to poor attention from the server with bad body odor.
