True it's name, River's Edge is right by the Rogue River. With outdoor dining available, it was unfortunately too windy to sit outside. The indoor dining area had big windows so you can still enjoy the view. I enjoyed the Pink Diamond Martini (4 stars) with fruity flavors from peach schnapps, pineapple, and raspberries. Our party of five shared and enjoyed the Spinach Artichoke Dip (4 stars), and it came with delicious bread. I ordered the Pistachio Crusted Pacific Salmon (3 stars). This dish included a honey mustard glaze, sautéed brussels sprouts, and sweet potato puree. Although the salmon was cooked perfectly, they rest of the items on the dish were all too sweet. It needed something salty or acidic to balance it out. I should have just ordered the grilled salmon special of the day, which sounded simple and delicious. We had no room for dessert. Service (4 stars) was great with friendly hosts and servers. They even have a musician playing during dinner. Overall, it's nice spot to get good food and drinks with a lovely view. read more

Calamari: was small and dry (thick breading,) Bone marrow: there was barely any marrow... Lamb shank: too salty and not very tender... Duck breast: chewy (I had to spit out all the breast meat,) Mojo Pork: dry We arrived early at 18:00... and yet a soup and a dessert that we would like to order from the extensive menu were already sold out. We went there few weeks ago, and found the food to be only so so, nothing what we have experienced before. Didn't think of much. This past weekend friends of mine on our recommendation went. Worst experience ever they said. Very small portions, they said, overcooked steaks, and other discrepancies. But the worse the new owners refused to honor a gift certificate stating "we are the new owners, and will not honor those old cards". REALLY? I visited a couple days ago for a simple take out order for chowder and dessert.... Hardly no one in restaurant as it was around 4:00 it took forever to get 2 items. The clam chowder should have been named potato chowder, huge rounds of potatoes as I've never seen. I have attempted calling multiple times in the past 2 days they never pick up the phone. Came here for my boyfriend's birthday last month while vacationing in Oregon. The food and drinks were excellent! The Oregon Mule was so good and we both loved the Bone Marrow appetizer. Food presentation was especially amazing. However, despite having a reservation we had to wait over 15 minutes to be sat. After being sat, service was just okay. Our waitress took a while to come to our table and didn't check on us or our drinks throughout the meal- but there was only one other table in our entire section. Came here for the great reviews and "allergy aware" menu. Our meal started great until we noticed very small pieces of croutons in a salad that was supposed to gluten free. This is important as there is a CELIAC ALLERGY not just a gluten free preference . We had to leave within the next ten minutes and the affected individual was throwing up the rest of the night. God forbid it had been an anaphylactic reaction, or we would have had to go to the hospital. Unacceptable when an allergy is stated. read more

Just because a menu sounds interesting doesn't mean it's going to be good. Sometimes a relatively conservative menu can reveal delicious gems. I have a friend who has a rule: If the menu offers "the wedge", he orders that salad. He's not an adventurous eater but he loves a wedge. The Rivers Edge offers a wedge, and steaks, and salmon, and a veggy option. It's a pretty standard simple menu. So it's easy for the gastronomically minded to dismiss this place out of hand. That would be a mistake. We started with the house recommended cocktail - a habanero infused vodka martini with passion fruit, and an old fashioned flavored with bacon. Both were utterly delicious. We ordered another martini. We shared an appetizer - the pork belly. It was served with a tzatziki yogurt dressing with shaved cucumber. It was Smokey, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, with a chocolatey, slightly spicy crust. Delicious. For the mains we ordered the lamb shank and the duck breast with a side of mashed potato which we're both really well made and delicious. The portions were generous and I found myself verging on force feeding toward the end. I just didn't want to leave anything on the plate. In another review of the same dishes somebody claimed the duck was chewy and the lamb not tender - not ours. Both were top notch. Our first and second choices for desert has run out so we settled on the daily special: the Ube Cheesecake. This desert was dark purple on a golden crust. Looked other worldly and was garnished with edible flowers. It tasted amazing. Light, with a truly interesting flavor. Not expected but very enjoyable. We finished off with a local desert wine that tasted like a find tawny port but was less viscous, more like a sherry in texture. Gonna buy a bottle. Really lovely. The staff were charming, welcoming, loved our dog, attentive and overall delightful. There simply isn't a single negative thing to say about this place. It doesn't have the decor that screams "fine dining" but in my experience places that do often serve up lack luster food. The Rivers Edge is good, honest, well made tasty food for people who have sophisticated taste. We'd return eagerly. read more

Absolutely, you can not beat the ambiance, the food, service of this magnificent restaruant. The halibut was cooked to perfection in a mango, cantaloupe sauce. Cheers for the chef for us ingenious combinations that awaken the pickiest of palates (like mine) We have been to this establishment a 12 times and everytime they beat our expectations. I forgot to mention the guitarist they have is an extremely talented musician that plays throughout the evening as you enjoy your meal. This is a MUST visit, for anytime or a special occasion. Beautiful little restaurant right on the Rogue River in Grants Pass. We sat outside to enjoy the view and ambiance. There was a solo guitarist that was playing to add to the coziness. The plating made it seem like sushi. The sauces were and still are terrific but the way the sauce was presented the first time for me was amazing the way it went in wavy lines. Almost like artwork. The second time I went there the tenderloins were tougher, burnt, not pretty plating either. And the sauce was just kinda smothered all over all 3 plates I ordered. Also I went outdoors this time and was eaten alive by Flys and bees and hornets. They should really get some netting. The first time I went. Waiter seemed professional. Gave me great recommendations for food and alcohol. They have a drink that is like an orange Creamsicle but not orange flavored. It's great. The second time I went, waiter was stupid. Told her I like sweet alcoholic drinks and she recommended nothing good. Brought me 3 drinks I didn't drink more than a gulp of each. They were really bad. While in Southern Oregon, I was scrolling through FB and noticed a list of restaurants that had great outdoor seating. This restaurant was on the list. On this day it was nice but it appeared to be threatening rain. We still elected to sit outside. Very nice out there. I had to wear my coat but it was a great to have a view of the Rogue river while we had our salads. They had a great salad which I added salmon to a great meal. Great food and great atmosphere. It looks quite fancy inside but most people were dressed very casually on this Sunday afternoon. I would love to drop in again on a warm sunny day for a drink by the river. Amazing views of the beautiful and wild rogue river of you sit outside! We came on a Thursday night and the restaurant was relatively slow. Being in the food industry I was surprised i waited almost 20 minutes to get my Servers attention. When we finally did we had to ask for water and when it came the glass was dirty with lipstick marks from the person who used the glass before me when I asked for a new glass from the guy bussing the table next to us because our server couldn't be found he didn't offer any kind of apology, just took the glass and resurfaced 15 minutes later with a new glass. Our sever was not very friendly and had terrible, terrible body odor. The only thing that saved my review from a 1 to a 3 for this place was the food. It was warm when we got it and it was very, very good tasting! Overall, great views of the river, the cooks know what their doing, unfortunately the front of house killed our experience from details like having silverware at the table, clean dishes all the way to poor attention from the server with bad body odor. Front of house team members could use some polish and a reminder on how to create a memorable experience for each guest by nailing details big and small! read more
