When I asked her to recommend a mechanic for my first car, she said she never had any problem with Gorshe. Although I am male, I don't work on cars, and at the time, this endorsement carried particular weight. That was in 1990, three cars ago. I suspect most people have no frame of reference for a review of a no-nonsense mechanic that has served the Dinkytown neighborhood for over 20 years and treats customers with respect. That would explain why Yelp filtered the first two five-star reviews of Gorshe Auto. So let me provide some balance. There's no 30-point "safety check", no free coffee (although I've never asked), no waiting room or children's play area. There's also no loaner car, and if you have a full-size van or SUV, you might not be able to fit on the lift. On the plus side, I bought my last vehicle, a used minivan in 2005 with 60,000 miles on it, and as of November 2013 I have 185,000 miles. I count on Gorshe to keep it tuned up and stay ahead of the maintenance curve. I have never been stranded. Since the only maintenance work I perform myself is filling the tires, the only reason I could confidently buy a used car is that I knew I could rely on Gorshe to keep it running from day one. Now that I'm in Eagan, it's more difficult to make it over to Dinkytown during the day, since it's a family-operated business and they're only open 8-5. That said, when the 19-year-old at Tires Plus said I needed suspension work or I might have a catastrophic failure, I thanked him for the advice and took the estimate to Gorshe.

I purchased a used ford focus 2011 back in january from a honda dealer…read more I took the car to this place to make sure everything was ok since the car was vibrating during idles and low speeds etc etc. and dealer says 'the car is mechanically sound' said there was nothing wrong, and that its just a ford. I told him I have had fords and they do not drive like that... told me to just turn up the radio to ignore rattles.... I asked whether its motor mounts, he asked if I found info online and blew me off... fast forward 6months... took car into ford dealership for 75k mile service... lo and behold, they found that motor mounts are bad.. on top of that power steering fluid and coolant has gone bad AND an oil leak needing front timing cover repair (est cost ~$2200). so far I have only repaired motor mounts and replaced power steering fluid (leak wasn't terribly bad). Car is extremely quiet and drives like it just came out of the factory. I cannot believe how they ignored my suggestions and didn't even care to look at the car and blew me off saying its a ford. Original dealer I bought the car from (honda) could've covered most of the cost if he actually LOOKED at the car. Never again.
