Pizza rustica w/eggplant (we add meatballs and Kalamata olives), caprese salad and Mediterranean salad are consistently awesome!

This was our first time trying this pizza shop, and we ordered takeout. We're only about four miles away, but for some reason DoorDash treated that like a long-distance delivery. Because of that, the pizza wasn't hot when it arrived -- which was disappointing, since we've received food from downtown that's shown up still piping hot. We went with our usual combo of mushroom and fresh garlic, and they did a great job spreading out the toppings -- we could taste garlic in every bite, which I really liked. The crust was good, slightly chewy toward the end but overall decent. What we didn't love was the sauce -- it had a heavy oregano flavor that overpowered the rest of the pizza. We also tried the chicken parmesan sandwich, and unfortunately it had the same issue -- way too much oregano, which made the flavor a bit off-putting. Lastly, we ordered the arancini balls, which were supposed to come as three but we only received two. They were crispy and cheesy, but there wasn't much rice inside -- more like a mozzarella stick than an arancini ball. Overall, the pizza was halfway decent, and there were a few positives, but the overuse of oregano and the missing arancini made it a mixed experience. read more

We have had pizzas from here before and they were rather good but this time we decided to order something different. I ordered the spaghetti Bolognese my husband ordered chicken Parm. Neither one of us were thrilled with the dishes, not much taste, in either of them, there was a lot of pasta and very little Bolognese and the piece of chicken was quite small. This afternoon, my wife and I took a bike ride around Planter's Pointe, Rivertowne, and Rivertowne on the Wando. On the way home, we stopped in to Rivertowne Pizza for a sandwich for lunch. We ordered a Chicken Parmesan sandwich. We received a sandwich that had shredded chicken, cheese, and sauce. It wasn't bad. It also wasn't what I expected. I expected a breaded and fried chicken breast with melted mozzarella and sauce. My husband and I can't get enough pizza, so when we moved to Dunes West from lower Mount Pleasant, we were excited to try a new pizza spot. In less than 2 weeks we've already been to Rivertowne Pizza twice. It is so good! The pizza is chewy and crunchy in all the right spots, and the flavor can't be beat. A true New York style pizza. And the garlic knots... OMG! They might be the star of the meal. Although it's not the type of place we'd go for a sit down meal at the restaurant, I can see us becoming regulars when we are looking to have carryout/delivery pizza at home. Difficult to complain about local shops in this COVID timeframe, but being honest, we won't likely return. Food is good, not great, but no major complaints about that. The primary issue is lack of any effort to provide customer service and a long, long wait time for takeout. 1 hour and 27 minutes wait time for an online order to be picked up (not even delivered). 3 pizzas shouldn't take 90 minutes to cook, even if they are VERY busy, which they were not. Bigger issue: No notification of ordering errors, or modifications prior to payment and arrival. The basics: Online ordering offers specialty pizzas with specific toppings. When ordering, you can add toppings, but not delete any. You can also put in notes to explain in detail what you want. So... I wanted to remove 2 items and then add 2 different items. Seems like a fair deal, right? Well, the answer is no. Which is a minor complaint, but nothing that can't be resolved... However, no phone call, no reply, no warning about this until I arrive to pick up my order. When I arrive, I am told that my 2 extra items were not added because I did not order them correctly on the website. My first thought was, well, ok, but I would have paid extra upon arrival, or at the very least, I could have made a decision to change my order, if someone would have notified me, or called to explain this. Without me even asking, the server stated plainly that the manager/owner is VERY STRICT about this. Which to me means that this is a common occurrence, and they should attempt to do something to prevent it. I do not disagree with the rules they have created, I do however disagree with serving me something that I would not have chosen to order, without any warning or notification. Bottom line... I have no complaint about the food. Not my favorite, but not bad either. But if these rules exist, and aren't explained on the website, nor offered via a phone call, then they shouldn't be enforced after I have already paid, and waited 90 minutes to pickup my order. In the future, I will continue going 5 miles further to Tony's Detroit Pizza. It is better pizza, they have excellent customer service, and they are also locally owned. We all know there is one thing that you just can not fix. A very clear order was placed and whom ever takes the orders at this place obviously can not handle the stress of answering a phone and writing down what the customer states. Then not only is the order wrong on the one item the pizza is burnt. How a manager could manage a business this way is beyond me then an owner to allow this to continue to happen. New to the area, we decided to try this place on a Tuesday night for easy delivery. I was really craving pasta, but they were out of every kind of noodle (was placed on hold twice by this point in the call). I asked what else was good, and the Philly was suggested. Ordered a Philly and a sausage parmigiana sandwich, and waited an hour and 15 minutes for our food to arrive. We live about a mile away. The bread was soggy and wet, and the cheese on both sandwiches was congealed and had hardened, cold. I had ordered the Philly without peppers, of course there were still peppers on it. Has gone downhill the past year. Ordered a pizza where the dough was so under cooked that I could not eat it, and I will eat almost anything. Had to throw it out. Ordered a pizza with special instructions, went to pick up 40 minutes later and the cashier had the ticket but the cook didnt. The place was empty with maybe 2 to 3 other orders waiting. Never ordering from there again. We use to order there weekly because we loved it and now it is the worst. Just go get a Harris Teeter pizza next door to save yourself time and money. Fortunnstely I live nearby as I love their pizza, salad, and deserts. It is nice that they have 10 inch small pizzas. I gOt their mediteranIan and wife got a supreme. The crust is nice and thin NY style and what is best is that it is not soggy in the middle of the ppizza like I've found a at other placees. The Mediterranean salad is really good with spiinach and Romain lettuce instead of that plain lettuce found in the salads of most places. Their dessert selection is prettY big. So far this is the best pizza I've encountered I in the Charleston area. I'm so glad that it's next to my neighborhood in Rivertowne. Some day I'll try the sandwiches. read more
