I can honestly say... this restaurant wasn't too bad on Valentine's Day! The service was really quickly and really good. They serve us quickly yet had enough time for my boyfriend and I. We were really enjoying ourselves during tonight. The only thing that bugs me was that it tends to be really tight, but it is Valentine's day and they could fit so much. I had the Chicken Gordon Bleu and it was really good! The sauce on type of my chicken and ham was really amazing. Great combination with my chicken and ham. It was also laid on red mash potatoes. We went here on a somewhat fancy date. Despite living close by, we've never actually ventured to Riverwinds. We should have considering the menu has a lot of items we liked. Atmosphere: The view of the water, Philadelphia, and the Philadelphia airport is hard to beat. You get to watch planes land, the sunset and the inside is very open. Service: We found the service to be great. Granted the restaurant wasn't crowded, we didn't have a single issue. The waitress was extremely kind and kept our beverages full and our food came out quickly. Food: If there is octopus on the menu, I'll order it. The octopus appetizer, was well worth it. It was seasoned well and pieces were cooked to perfection. I ordered the sea bass as my entree. The sea bass itself was good. I would order it again and again. The sides seemed kind of just placed there. I like the green beans but the rice was just blah. If you are going to present it that way, make it sticky rice. Mine was just bland and fell apart immediately. I can't remember the dessert we ordered but it was good. The waitress brought over a plate of desserts to choose from. When we had to think about it, she took it away. I know many restaurants do it that way, but it always makes it more difficult to remember or choose. In all, I liked the Riverwinds. Finally got a chance to check this place out. We went for lunch around noon on Thursday. Wanted to sit on the patio but it just started to rain so we sat in the bar by the window. Very nice view of the river and the airport, with planes flying in. I first ordered the cucumber melon martini. Unfortunately I did not like it and the waiter was super nice, took it back and got me a new drink, the South Peach Cosmo, which was very good. They have an $8 limited menu for happy hour. I ordered the California chicken sandwich. Just a small piece of chicken and I think 1 piece of bacon, but overall it was very good. I'm looking forward to going back again. We had our wedding last year at Riverwinds and it was the perfect location for a small sized wedding reception. The food was decent and everything mostly went well for our wedding. There were some things that didn't go too well and I felt we'll be talking about it for years. First of all, we had a wedding playlist that was connected to their sound system. It was playing fine in the beginning when we started the ceremony. However for whatever reason, we didn't really hear our music being played clearly....and it seemed like there a malfunction with the sound system. We were both too preoccupied at the time to really complain about the music but that really took away the little entertainment we had for guests. And one last major issue was that we had a beautiful three-tier cake. The server had taken it back to get it cut so they can serve the cake at the end of our reception. Disappointedly, my husband and I weren't served our own cake! I would think we get served cake first since we're the married couple. We had to ask if there were any cake left and apparently they said the cake was all gone! I had some guests tell me they didn't even get cake! We ordered this cake from a local bakery and it was made more than enough for our small party. And also we had guests that didn't even show up...so there would've been plenty of cake leftover for us to even take home. Unfortunately we didn't get to eat our own cake or feed each other cake for a cute memorable photo. Not to mention that we didn't have the small top tier of our cake to take home so that we can save it for one year anniversary. We did reach out to our event coordinator about this issue hoping they'll figure out what happened to our cake. But of course, we only got a short reply and haven't heard back since. It's a shame that it happened to us. Overall the wedding would've been perfect if weren't for the missing cake. We would love to go back for dinner on our anniversary date but wouldn't now since we'll be reminded of the cake that we didn't get to have. read more

Normally I would give this place a 4 out of 5 stars. The atmosphere is wonderful and they have a good wine and cocktail selection. Appetizers are very good and meals are decent, but not great. Upon our most recent visit this past labor day weekend on Sunday, we sat down at the bar to enjoy a cocktail or two before going to our table. It was not busy at all and there were 3 bartenders. One handed us a menu and said someone would be right over. After several minutes when no one came over, she came back and took out order. She poured our drinks and started a tab for us. After a bit, when my husband had to wave her down to ask for another, she was visibly annoyed. She got him another drink and then disappeared. When I was ready for another, she was nowhere to be found, while one of the other 2 bartenders sat chatting at the other end of the bar with a couple she obviously knew, completely ignoring everyone else. Other customers sat down at the bar waiting to be served as well, and she just continued her conversation as if no one else was there. The third bartender was serving some of the customers, including the most recent to sit down, but never looked in our direction once. Finally, we decided to just pay our tab and get a table outside. We had to get up from our seats and start walking towards the bartender chatting at the other end, in order to get her attention to close us out. She asked where we were sitting, as she never looked up from her conversation to notice. She then proceeded to say that she didn't know where our server was, so she would just cash us out. When we sat at our table outside, I attempted to get the attention of the manager to complain about the service at the bar. Before I could do so, I heard the table next to us complain that they had ordered drinks a while ago and had still not gotten them yet. He told them that the bar was "really backed up" and that was the reason for the wait. I couldn't help but notice when their drinks arrived, it was simply 2 bottled beers. No mixing required. Not to mention the fact that the bar and restaurant were the least busy I've ever seen them. Based on that I realized that my comments would be falling on deaf ears and did not bother to complain, but felt strongly enough about the poor service we received to take the time to write a review. Absolutely do not come here. We had made a reservation for 3 people (all fully vaccinated) to enjoy dinner on Saturday night. When we were seated the entire dining room except 2 booths were filled. We were sandwiched in between a four top and a large party of 12 people. We sat down and immediately felt uncomfortable and quickly got up and left. The eyes have it with the scenery at this restaurant, but if you're dining, that good feeling too often ends where your tastebuds begin. The Riverwinds menu is rather monochromatic and, in my humble opinion, does not meet the price point set by management. In fact, the only thing premium about the food is the price. The quality and the portions of the food at this restaurant have both decreased noticeably over the years. And if the service is chilly or unresponsive, as some customers maintain, it's probably because management has been known to sometimes create public displays of disaffection with staff. This style of superintendency often contributes to a toxic work environment that fosters back-biting and anxiety amongst employees. The aforementioned notwithstanding, for those who just want a place to hang out where they can knock back a few and gaze off across the Delaware River and into the distant Philly skyline, who CARES what the food tastes like! There will always be those who will patronize a restaurant--despite COVID--as a combination gathering place/watering hole. Booze is the real money-maker in the restaurant industry and those whose main interest lies in alcoholic libations will be happy most anywhere they can find a seat. However, those who put more of a premium on establishments which serve consistently good food will eventually go elsewhere. It's difficult enough to describe a restaurant that hasn't made any significant changes to its menu in over a decade, but what's even more difficult in such a restaurant is describing the food it serves: what Riverwinds offers can't even be described as diner food. At least in a good diner, you get tasty fare that is equitably priced and apportioned. RECOMMENDATION: stay for the view, the drinks, and maybe a charcuterie board (loaded with enough dairy to stop up an elephant). We went to riverwinds restaurant today on a Sunday and the food sucked. The only good thing about this place is the view. The menu is outdated which they have the same thing all the time. The food and drink are way overpriced. I had the crab cake and it was the worst I ever had. See they cover it with this tasty sauce and as you begin to dig into the crab cake I begin to notice it is overcooked and chewy. What they need is better cooks!!! The drink I got was a blueberry mojito that was $12.95 that was a lot. I came home hungry and my money was low too after that. This place is a rip-off. The meals are small for what you pay for. In my opinion it was a total waste of my hard-earned money. We should have gone to Maplewood111 in Vineland where the food is tastier and more of it and your money goes farther. If I could give "0" stars I would. Made reservations in October for their Thanksgiving 2022 Turkey dinner for a family of 4. My very first time not cooking in 50 years, and thought this would be a nice family dinner for all of us. WRONG!!!!! One and done.......Had a 4:30 reservation and waited an hour and a half to be seated. The place was overpacked with standing room only, elbow to elbow. I managed to wiggle myself up to the front and Spoke with older man 3 times about this long wait time with a reservation. His response was, 12 more minutes each time. Yeah, you do the math. Meanwhile, that whole packed area as soon as you entered the front doors and through doorway was emptied out. Another lady next to me with a party of 4 (who had a 4 o'clock reservation went up to the older guy and asked where everyone went as she's been waiting a long time also. His response was, "we seat the bigger parties first as their tables are already set and ready. AGAIN, do the math @$44.95 per person. Yesssss indeed it was alll about the MONEY!!! After 90 minutes we were finally seated. Took another 10 minutes to see a server. I ordered 2 martinis for myself as I pictured in my mind it would be a long wait once again to get another. Then 3 rolls came in a basket for 4 people, not even cut. Finally ordered the turkey dinner. The food??? Well here we go........ awful awful awful. They brought a whole turkey ( if that's what you want to call it) to carve at the table. I'm guessing 3lbs max. It was soooo small. The kid couldn't even cut it it. A total disaster!!! We each got 2 little shredded pieces of turkey on our plate Not even a full slice or piece. He was trying to "rip pieces " at that point, with gloves on. The side dishes were suppose to be family style. WRONG AGAIN!!! Pathetic!!! One very small little cup of cranberry sauce, definitely not enough for 2 people yet alone a family of 4. Small bowls of mashed soupy tasteless stuffing (like they ran the cubes under running water to get them soft), one quarter size chunk of sweet potato, 4 small thin carrots (one per person), asparagus, cold mashed potatoes that looked like they came off someone else's plate (ewee), and parsnips that were disgusting!! With all that said, and $300 later, the martinis was good ( but not worth $15 a pop), Caesar salad was good, the pumpkin pie was good!!!! The waitress was great!!!! THAT IS IT!!! I will never ever go to this restaurant again!!! Definitely went way downhill, since we've eaten here many times before months ago. I feel terrible that my family had to endure such a long wait on Thanksgiving to have a great family dinner with a different experience of eating out on a holiday, and not enough food, and it was extremely tasteless. We chewed what we could as we were all starving at that point. Epic fail on my part, but I will now continue to cook at home for the holidays for my family after this disgraceful experience. I was shocked that this place was just meh. The restaurant is very nice. It took over 15 minutes for a server to acknowledge us. It was so long that I almost got up to ask the host if they were aware we were waiting. Appetizers were delicious we got the bruschetta mozzarella. I had a soup which was italian wedding, fantastic. Caesar salads... dressing was terrific. I ordered the chilean sea bass, it was I believe $46. Surprised at how small the sea bass was for that price. It was incredibly overcooked. My husband had the scallops priced $43. Shocked again the scallops were overdone as well. Server dreadfully slow, they were not that crowded, tables around us were empty and most people were sitting at the bar. I probably would not go back based off of this meal. We have eaten here before and it was very good, not sure why the big change. Service was awful, food overdone, and the prices are crazy high compared to other nice restaurants. read more

Riverwinds is a great restaurant! The bread that they give you to start off was great. My boyfriend had the blood orange to drink, which he said was very good. The rest of us had soft drinks. The salad that was included with our meal was also very good. I had the raspberry vinaigrette dressing which I absolutely loved. For our meals, three of us had the ribeye, which was amazing. The other person in our group had the crab cake, which they thoroughly enjoyed. Our meals all came with ice cream, which was a nice touch. We will definitely be back here! read more

This as well as the last 2 times the food was terrible. The place is beautiful. The service is excellent and the people are so nice but they need to get a new kitchen, staff and chef. The food is bad diner food at top dollar pricing. We had calamari that was small little pieces over breaded overcooked and tasted terrible. I had a chicken dish that was tough and lacked a lot of flavor. My wife had a shrimp dish she could not eat. We are not people who complain about Restaurants I give restaurants and the people who work in them a lot of credit, but this was bad. but with all due respect and I never leave reviews like this. I go to a lot of restaurants because I entertain a lot of customers places like Italian Affair in New Jersey as well as several others are excellent as far as food. Every place has a little ups and downs, some of the new restaurants in Delaware are excellent, especially along the riverfront and I'm not promoting anyone so I'm not naming names, but Riverwinds has to change. I would give 0 stars if it would allow me. We attended a baptism here in April. Unfortunately, my son has severe food allergies that require an epipen. We explained this to our attendant. She was not very accommodating to assist us. We have been dealing with these allergies for just short of 3 years and have never had an issue with restaurants accommodating (as food allergies are very common). In fact, even chains such as Red Robin and Chilis have been very accommodating. The waitress did not even attempt to discuss with the kitchen about safe options, she just said "we can make grilled chicken" in a very nasty tone. We were presented with a tiny (and very very dry chicken breast), when she asked if we wanted asparagus we asked if it was allergy friendly... she replied "I'm going to go with no"... never once did she even try to make an attempt to accommodate this. We love River Winds! The ambiance is absolutely superb for a special date night or celebration. It hosts live classic music such as Frank Sinatra. Every seat has a view of the sunset and the city lights over the bridge to Philadelphia. It is an incredible view and you must experience it! Where to have a nice "Welcome Back" meal in returning to Philadelphia? Hey why not Riverwinds with its awesome view of the Delaware River and the city .... and it's fun atmosphere on a summer night. So Riverwinds it was. Outside in the cove by Riverwinds people were swimming, boating, and kayaking. On the beach by the river, a few dudes were fishing, a lot of people were hanging around. And then the restaurant itself was crowded from their spectacular bar area to the dining rooms ... but luckily we had a reservation. Riverwinds is not known as a gourmet restaurant but my food was totally excellent on this evening. The garden salad was fresh with a light balsamic vinaigrette dressing. The baked walnut & honey-crusted goat cheese with strawberries and red beets was the most popular dish at the table. Everyone wanted to taste it! Main course of grilled swordfish with asparagus and French fries was extremely tasty. I loved how crispy the asparagus spears were. Edys ice cream sufficed for dessert. And a great local beer - a Victory Double IPA called Dirtwolf perfectly accompanied the meal. Our waitress was awesome! My husband and I recently dined here to celebrate our six years together. We moved here last year and we frequent the park often. We decided to give the restaurant a try and we were very pleased. We both had an alcoholic beverage-- I got a sweet tea. I thought it was kind of pricey at $8.99 and it was served in a martini glass. I don't know much about specialty drinks but I assumed it would've been served in a different type of glass. My husband ordered the Victory Hop Devil-- kind of disappointed that was there only craft beer selection but still happy they had at least one. Very impressed with our waitresses pouring skills of the beer. She poured it for him while holding the glass on her serving plate. We normally don't do appetizers much but we saw the cheese steak egg rolls and our eyes lit up. And holy cow-- they were AMAZING. Perfect. Not too crispy but not too soft. Not greasy at all .The perfect amount of steak and cheese. So heavenly!! We ordered off of their house special menu-- it was $19.99/ea and included ice cream. I ordered the 6 oz filet mignon with mashed potatoes and asparagus. My husband ordered the crab cake with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The steak was ordered at medium and was properly cooked! I enjoyed everything in my dish. The steak and asparagus were delicious. The mashed potatoes were OK-- I'm a big lover of mashed potatoes so I am hard to please. They were a bit lumpy for my taste and had a bit too much salt for my liking-- but they were still very good. My husband enjoyed his meal as well-- he said everything was cooked well and tasted delicious. The ice cream was a nice little thing for dessert. Nothing fancy or anything-- but not bad. I know sometimes restaurants serve you half iced over ice cream which is nasty-- but there's was not like that. The view is great there. I know some people commented saying you can't see anything but the 95 bridge to the airport and barges. Well yes.... its the Delaware River not the ocean or another fancy river. All I'm saying is think about the location you're at before you go making comments about the bad view. There's a great view there if you look for it. Our waitress was training but she was very nice and answered any questions we had. No issues with the timing of the serving or anything. Will go back. Would like to try their lunch. Well if I were to say I was surprised when my food came I'd be lying. Riverwinds sits on the lovely DE river, across from super south Philly. Gaudy, shiny, overdone interior. I bet all the local car salesmen and real housewives love this place. The menu is deceivingly basic. Off the wall salsas/sauces on top of fish and meats and a pasta section. Held a bridal shower in the executive rooms and it was absolutely amazing. The management staff is so accommodating and helpful. The servers were very attentive and the food was outstanding. Having read many of the other comments, here is my take. THE VIEW Overlooking the Delaware River, I appreciated the view. It put me at ease, and I do not see scenes like this too often. It seems to me the criticism of the view fails to consider the alternatives. For example, Moshulu in Philadelphia is also on the Delaware River--with a direct view of Camden, NJ! Capische? Without getting into a side-show about another restaurant, I am a huge fan of Moshulu. The point is to keep things in perspective when evaluating Riverwinds with respect to its view. It is pleasant. AMBIANCE I have been to Riverwinds for both personal and professional events. I introduced my wife to Riverwinds because I was impressed by not only the view but also the dining ambiance. My wife and I were celebrating our five-year anniversary with our then two- (almost three-) year-old child. Adding to how others have described Riverwinds' elegant dining experience, the restaurant also accommodates families with young children wishing to dine there. Because of this, it seems to me families with young children should understand the emphasis at Riverwinds is on elegant dining. That is why most other patrons go there. Enough said? FOOD QUALITY I would not have returned with my wife if I had been unimpressed with the food quality. We like the steak menu, and my wife likes her filet mignon rare. She was especially pleased that the chef prepared it to her liking. This is more remarkable than my personal experience--which was positive--because Riverwinds earned praise from the wife. SERVICE Nothing to comment about, which means it was fine. CONCLUSION Riverwinds has made our occasions special. I would return. read more
