I had a great meal. I've never stopped in Jersey to eat, only drive through. Luckily I was able to visit for a business lunch. The view was incredible! Watching the calm waters, boats, birds, and planes landing was really nice while waiting for our meal. I ordered the smokehouse burger which was really good. It comes with onion rings, which I don't like, but actually enjoyed. There was a nice smokey taste and it was just very delicious. For dessert I got some kind of chocolate cake with mouse. That was also good - chocolatey, light, and I believe it there was cream cheese and/or white chocolate in the middle. It was amazing. UGHHHHH. This place has so many mixed reviews and now I see why. I went to this place for my sisters graduation dinner. It was so busy and the view was beautiful! The dinner- we had a reservation and we weren't seated until 15-20 mins after. No big deal! We grabbed a drink at the bar. Once we were sitting we had two servers..? One took our drinks and apps then another came up and asked for our drinks and apps, it was confusing but they seemed to work it out. The apps we had were the cheese steak eggs rolls, clams, and calamari. The calamari was good cooked well, with normal marinara sauce. Cheese steak eggs rolls were huge! There was a ton of meat in them but they were dry... WHERES THE CHEESE?! Lastly the clams were a nice size, it's hard to mess up something you don't cook. Now time for the entrees. Overall they were subpar. Everyone was pleased but for the price I was expecting better. The one dish that was amazing is the lobster ravioli with crab meat. That was the best dish on the table. The desserts were fine as well, the peanut butter pie thing was the best! If you were looking for a fancy night out this is a place with a good view. I have to say I was a little nervous when I first got here with a reservation considering it took a while for a waitress to come over. However, the night turned out to be a pretty pleasant one after all. I enjoyed my drink and starter salad. I got the crab cake as my entrée- it comes with lobster cream on top so I ordered it on the side. The dish was so yummy. I am very picky about crab cakes, but they were perfectly full of lump crab meat. There was very little filler in the cake. Scallops were cook perfectly but did not pack enough punch even with the mango salsa. The chicken cobb salad was very good but the salad dressing did not taste like anything just oil, i would suggest requesting additional dressing like the raspberry vinaigrette which was very good. Probably the worst restaurant I've been to in a long time. Cleanliness: all of the dishes were filthy. Wine glass had someone's lip stains still on it. All of the water glasses had specs of dirt that looked like bacteria buildup. Service: Our server was completely absent. Took 15 mins to be seen by one. She took our drink order but not food. Shows up 15 mins later with drinks and only asks us for appetizers. When I flag her down another 20 mins later about the dirty wine glass, she neglects to take our entree order. Food: For appetizers the mussels were not properly cleaned. They were covered in sand and some were still closed. The broth was not flavorful whatsoever. Also got hummus which was pretty underwhelming. The crab cake sandwich entree was decent, but nothing spectacular. Only saving grace was the key lime pie that honestly looked like it was made elsewhere. I think another reviewer was spot on. This was borderline diner level food but had higher end city prices just because of the view and neighborhood. My family came here to scope it out for a potential graduation party, but there is no chance I would ever consider this place. read more

My Wife and I started with the French Onion Soup which we both found enjoyable. Next was salad, I got the Caesar which was small, not many homemade croutons(I wish there were more they were tasty) and the Caesar Dressing wasn't anything special. My wife got Blue Cheese Dressing, the salad was also small and her lettuce was slightly wilted. For her entrée she had the Pasta Rustica which had Penne Pasta, Sausage, Broccoli Rabe with a Rosa Sauce. The portion was good but the Sausage was both hot and sweet. It didn't say that on menu, my wife didn't mind, but for some people that may be an issue. She told me overall she thought it was an average dish. I ordered the Cowboy Bone In Ribeye, cooked medium and I added the Lump Crabmeat. I asked the waitress for the Lump Crabmeat to be on the Steak and is there any type sauce, usually with Crabmeat there is a sauce. She told me there isn't any sauce but I still asked for the Crabmeat to be on the Steak. Can't go wrong with Steak and Lump, right? Well the Steak was served with a brown sauce (on it), the Lump Crabmeat was in a bowl all by it's lonesome, I could tell the Lumb Crabmeat was very sad because it belonged on TOP the Steak not in a bowl on the side! And the sauce!?? Why was there a brown steak sauce on a Steak that was ordered with Lump Crabmeat on top and I was told NO sauce. I was never given a Steak knife so I had to use my butter knife. I've been to plenty 4 and 5 star Steak Houses which a butter knife is all you needed but this wasn't the case here. I took as much of the brown gravy off as I could(why put brown gravy on a Bone In Ribeye?) and put the Lump Crabmeat on. I got my butter knife and tried to cut the first piece, the Steak was more Medium Well than Medium so unfortunately it was not a very easy task, cutting it with a butter knife. By the time a staff member came near enough to my table to ask for a Steak knife I was already more than halfway done so I didn't even bother asking. The Lumb Crabmeat was victimized by the remnants of the unnecessary brown gravy and it was not as satisfying as it should have been. It actually tasted a little weird, brown gravy and Crabmeat are not a good combo. My wife is done with her average Pasta dish and I'm done with my very disappointing Steak with the extra Lump Crabmeat and we decided to ask to see the dessert menu since the waitress didn't ask us if we wanted to see it, she brought out a dessert tray and my wife selected peanut butter pie and I asked for cheesecake with strawberry topping. My Wife's peanut butter pie was good and my cheesecake was below average. They say homemade but it didn't seem homemade to me. The best part of our experience was the view. We sat outside and got there about 25 minutes before sunset. It was a beautiful night and the view was great. A clear case of an excellent, idyllic location overwhelming everything else so that service and menu never really have to break a sweat. Spectacular views of the Delaware and South Philly lull diners into a romantic hypnosis making the pricey, pedestrian menu almost an afterthought. Server seemed ignorant after that, seemed like we were a bother to her. Barley came to check on us... every other table had bread which seems trivial and it is, but it's over all experience. But I will say the food was very good just a shame the service we had was not up to par. Definitely on the pricey side so to have bad slow service should be a no no. We waited over 50 minutes for a reservation we made several weeks ago for a table that was off the side and down in a bar. I was my first time visiting the restaurant but I was told by a few of my relatives that they visit the restaurant often and that the food was good. Beautiful ambiance, new server, not the best service, but most of all poor front of the house management! It was my grandmother's 77th birthday. Just 3 of us for lunch. We were seated promptly and given options for table preference. For that, the host staff was great. the server came to the table promptly to offer us drinks, but took 15mins after the drinks came to actually take our order. the server was nice and bubbly but seemed to forget many of the details of our order. We were also not given proper place settings at the table, and told the server but she forgot until we reminded her. the restaurant was not busy, so im not sure why she was so forgetful. We did not get bread until we asked. My mother and grandmother enjoyed their dishes but it was nothing to brag about. I ordered the Lobster Ravioli which did not taste good. I sent it back and ordered the Bronzino pan fried crispy and substituted the rice for mashed potatoes. the server came back with a soggy fish and white rice. i again had to remind her. Finally she brought a slice of cheesecake for my grandma with no candle. She said "oh wait i forgot the candle I'll be right back". she didnt sing, no one made it special for my grandma. We asked for a manager and after 20mins of a waiting for the manager to come to our table, in a nonbusy restaurant, a short woman with dark hair came over with attitude. we told her about our experience and it being our first and last time here. This restaurant is so lovely - it sits right on the Delaware river and overlooks the Philadelphia skyline and the airport. There is a fair amount of outdoor seating for those who like to dine alfresco in the warmer weather. We stopped for happy hour this past week and had no issue finding two seats at the bar. Happy Hour here, by the way, is 11am-7pm. Enjoy that generous window! We each had a dirty martini, mine with blue cheese olives, and it was well made - not straight vodka/vermouth/brine, rather a nice blend of flavors. For snacks we shared the calamari, the crab vodka penne, and the chicken tortellini in blush sauce. Each of these was featured on the happy hour menu and was fairly portioned. Neither of the pasta sauces was too creamy, and the calamari was nicely crisp with some banana pepper rings thrown in for flavor. We did not sample anything from the full menu, but a quick glance did lead me to think it seemed a bit overpriced. Service was prompt and friendly, and the skyline views cannot be beat. The view and the area are spectacular. The service and food could have been better. I went for a graduation party in what looked like a sun room. Very clean and very nice. I work as a manager and corporate trainer for a restaurant group across the US. I have a critical eye but the service aspect could have been better. A few of us walked to the bar and got drinks. Took about 15 minutes to get greeted. I saw a male manager walking around lost. I tried to get his attention but that didn't work. He did take time to eat lunch at a hightop in front of guest. The servers were helping the service bartender and the service bar wasn't even busy. The bartender that finally greeted us after me getting her attention had a horrible attitude. Basically wanted us to yell our drink orders to her while she was cleaning glassware. The service and the servers in the party were nice just not so warm. Also, one thing I found weird was that we were only allowed to order our steaks rare, medium, or well. Also, the champagne fountain was warm. The champagne was literally warm. Overall drinks were good. Food wasn't bad despite my steak being well and I ordered it medium. Still taste good. Because I know the business I will give Riverwinds another try, maybe it was just a weird night. I would recommend staff work on a friendlier welcome and a management be more aware. It is with a heavy heart that I write this review. In the past we had always had decent if not exceptional meals at Riverwinds Restaurant. Not so on our visit on Sep 12, 2023. It is now barely diner food at upscale prices. First of all, the place was nearly empty, so we should expect careful attention to our service and food preparation. The Service was fine. We had a nice window table with a lovely view of the Philadelphia skyline and jets landing at the airport. We had a trainee waitress who did a fine job, and was accommodating when needed. The food prep left something to be desired. Let's start with the salads. One of my companions ordered the house salad, which she reported was very good. My wife and I ordered a Caesar salad. I do not know why restaurants in general believe that Caesar salad must be swimming in dressing, but many do and Riverwinds is no exception. I could stomach the excess dressing and I ate my salad. My wife could not stomach the amount of dressing and sent hers back. The staff cheerfully provided a Caesar Salad with dressing on the side, which solved the problem. Please. You wouldn't serve a tossed salad with that much dressing, why do you insist on ruining a plate of good Romaine lettuce by applying two to three times as much dressing as appropriate? The lady who ordered the house salad was the winner of the night. She ordered a Grilled Angus Ribeye steak. She reported that the steak was prepared properly and was very tasty. My wife ordered Crabby Delight. The description reads: "Jumbo lump crab meat sautéed with spinach & sundried tomatoes over angel hair pasta in choice of a lemon wine & garlic sauce..." The other choice is immaterial, as my wife ordered it with the lemon, wine and garlic sauce at our server's recommendation. The "jumbo lump crab meat" was anything but "jumbo." The largest piece of crab was about the size of a pea. She also found the spinach and sun dried tomato to be well, hard to find. The predominant flavor was lemon. She didn't even think that the leftovers were worth bringing home. I ordered the New Zealand rack of lamb with dijon herb crust and port wine demi glaze. I ordered it medium rare, and asked for French fries instead of mashed potatoes. The lamb was medium well, the herb Dijon crust was in hiding and the French fries were cold and soggy. Come on people! A supposedly upscale restaurant who can't serve up hot and crisp French fries? This is a basic staple of the American diet. Fire the sous chef in charge of French fries, please!! The tab was about $160 before tip but after two glasses of wine and a beer. When Riverwinds opened, it could ask these prices and serve up food that was worth the money. There's nothing worse than having your high expectations of fine dining dashed by a simply mediocre meal. Recently, my fiancé and I decided to give Riverwinds a try. The reviews looked pretty good, and some of our friends even recommended this as a dinner spot. So on a quiet Tuesday evening we ventured over to West Deptford hoping for the best. We arrived just before sunset. The place was pretty much empty save for a few patrons at the bar; there were only two or three parties in the dining room. Upon entering the building, the strong odor of Pinesol greeted us in the lobby. We were then greeted by the hostess who took us to our table by the window. By the way, a grand piano sits in the lobby, but I'm told it's only played on Fridays and Saturdays. After being seated, our server was quick to welcome us and take our order. She was, for the record, the highlight of this visit, and we made sure to tip her well. Friendly, professional, and on task. The disappointment soon began as our bread was brought to the table. In my opinion, if one is expecting to spend upwards of $100 or more on dinner, the bread should be freshly baked in the kitchen with homemade butter and olive oil on the side. Reality soon began to set in as a small loaf of not-so-freshly baked or warmed bread was placed on the table. Nothing special about it or the butter. Just average. The French onion soup came a little bit later, and to be honest, it wasn't all that bad. But again. Nothing special about it either. Just average. We also ordered salads with our meals; I had the Caesar side salad. So many opportunities to make something special out of this, but again... those opportunities were squandered. Just basic salad with a touch of flavor. We would have expected something like homemade croutons, scrumptious dressing, and even anchovies for the Caesar. Instead, it was just as appetizing as one of the salads from any of our local diners. Our mediocre dining experience continued as the main courses arrived. She had the crab cakes; I had the chicken marsala. Just one word to describe the whole thing - underwhelming. The portions were good, but just like the rest of our meal, it was nothing to write home over. Very little flavor and a truly basic presentation. Not at all worth the $100 that we would spend that evening. Dessert was a basic bowl of vanilla ice cream. Most likely Hershey's or whatever the Sysco food truck might have delivered earlier that day. My last complaint is directed toward the management staff. I have been to a great deal of "fine dining" restaurants. In almost every case, I was greeted warmly at my table by the manager on staff. In some cases, it was the owner themselves that made the rounds every night. There were at least two or three managers spotted talking with each other in the lobby. Not once did they come by our table, and they said not one word to any of us as we entered or departed for the evening. One might understand if they were busy with a rush of customers, but as I have written earlier in this piece, the place was just about empty. As with the food itself, I would have expected so, so much more. Instead, just an evening full of disappointments and wasted opportunities. If there is one other bright spot, it would be the sunset view of the Delaware River. The truth is, however, that you can enjoy the same view for no cost at all - just by driving down to the riverside park by Riverwinds. Will we be going back for dinner? Absolutely not. It is just not worth the cost. Save yourself the time and money by going to your neighborhood diner. Who knows? They might even have a good view of the water, too. read more

This is an outstanding location for scenery with a beautiful view of the Delaware. There is inside seating along their floor to ceiling windows, as well as an expansive outdoor patio. I chose this place to meet for lunch with two friends passing through the area on their way home from New York. The scenery did not disappoint and it was snow covered to add to the beauty. I had the fish tacos which were mediocre but my friends greatly enjoyed their food. Our waitress was extremely attentive, we couldn't have asked for better service. I have been to this restaurant many times as I travel from Washington DC to New York. Three things that I think are important: 1. The food is consistently mediocre, neither bad nor great. The steak can be overcooked and the burger very dry. Seafood dishes fair much better. 2. I eat out more frequently than most people and this is the FIRST restaurant I have been since Covid19 where NONE of the staff wear a mask. Shout out to the events coordinator Shauna for her quick responses and helping make the day special. The reservation cost was reasonable; the room has views of the river and Pennsylvania. The room also has a small outside balcony which was great for pictures. The staff were responsive and accommodating. Our waitress was nice, patient and informative. Okay so I'm going with 4 but my husband and I debated for quite some time over whether to give 3 or 4 stars. Beautiful restaurant. Check out my pics. Very nice place for special occasions and it happens to be our wedding anniversary. We made a reservation which was easy to do an hour beforehand. Glad we did because they really started to get busy after 6:30. We had to wait for a few minutes but the person showing us to our table apologized profusely. The dining area was large but we had a quaint table for two in the corner. Next time I may request a table by the window overlooking the river and apparently Philadelphia skyline I'm told. (We're from out of town ) Dress is casual, people wore everything from dresses to shorts. Food was delicious for the most part. Calamari was ok, nothing spectacular. Crab stuffed mushrooms-delicious! House salad was the best I've had-really. Caesar salad was good too. Crabby delight was light and delicious, salmon was ok. I would prefer my husband 's salmon. I've had juicier salmon. But the desserts tho! The cheesecake was as light as a feather and the lemon cello was phenomenal. The downside and why I feel wushu washy on the four stars is that we weren't impressed with our server. She did not give us her name, no intro at all. She did not check on us often, my water glass was almost empty before it was refilled, she cleared our table of used dishes but left my empty plate of marinara sauce from the calamari after coming back to the table 3 times, but the kicker was bringing out dessert forks and my husband took a bite of his cheesecake realizing too late that spinach was on it. When we let her know she chirped 'ok' and announced she'd bring another. There was no apology, acknowledgement that that was gross, unacceptable, nothing. Everything else with the restaurant just didn't match up with the level of service we received from her. It was mediocre. Approaching the driveway to parking lot was not directed good my first impression. Upon entering the restaurant it was not welcoming at the door. Entering the dining room it was nice nice view. The servers were pleasant. Our appointment was set for 4-7pm. Nice. Food was good served hot. Had Crab cake upon recommendation. Good choice. Desert was included with our meal. Had a party of eight people. We were enjoying our evening then about 6:30pm. We were told that our table was needed for another party of people. We were closing out stay anyway then we were ask again for the table. It's not 7pm as we were scheduled. We left before 7pm. Didn't appreciate that we were ushered out dining room. Would I recommend this restaurant NO was the food good Yes but the management was harshly rude. Will not go back there!!!!! read more
