During the week, however, Lisa contacted me again to let me know that the sale had fallen through and that the car was once again available. That was welcome news. I contacted Lisa to let her know that I would arrive as soon as possible, which happened to be towards the end of the day on Saturday the 8th. One of the salespeople, Tim, had the car waiting outside so I could take a look at it. We took it for a test drive, and I immediately told him that I was interested in purchasing it. Because it was late in the day and the bank had long since closed, I made arrangements to return on Monday to finalise the transaction. I mentioned that I had an appointment that morning to donate platelets and that I would arrive at the dealership early in the afternoon. To ensure that Mike Wilson, the Sales Manager, knew I was serious, I left him a message before leaving for my appointment. That was at around 9:30 a.m., and I was told that he would not be in until 11 o'clock. To be thorough, I also sent Lisa an email. After my donation, I headed directly from the Red Cross Centre to the dealership when I received a call from Tim informing me that the car had not only been sold but had already been delivered. If I had shown a lack of interest, seemed lukewarm about the purchase, or failed to follow up with a call or email today, I would have accepted that the situation was my own fault. I wasn't direct or positive enough. However, that simply wasn't the case. Over the weekend, I mentioned Napleton to a few people and received some negative feedback about the dealership. Since I was buying a used car rather than having one serviced, I wasn't particularly concerned. Having now experienced this level of unprofessionalism first hand, I doubt I will ever have anything to do with this company again

This was never disclosed to me by the salesperson at the time of signing, nor was it mentioned by the service advisor when my first service was performed at 7,000 miles. I am currently nearly 5,000 miles short of the next 10,000-mile interval, yet I'm being told the coverage has expired due to time. That is both surprising and frustrating. Offering me a "discount" on the second service does not address the core issue, which is lack of transparency. I will pay full price if necessary, not with you. However, please understand that my vehicle is up for renewal soon, and based on this experience, City VW of Evanston will not be earning my continued business.

Promise to resolve and work with service manager. Multiple calls later no response since before Memorial day. We are now well past 4th of July and looking hard at Labor Day. Even if they would not honor the problem, I asked if they would reach out to Subaru of America on my behalf to see they support. So 2.5 out of 5 for commitment to customer. The part that really frustrated me is they screwed up filling my license plate transfer for 3 months that they charged for. That set me up for an Deerfield cop with ALPR to give me a ticket that took me hours and hours of time at: - the Secretary of State, - talking to my insurance company, - talking to McGrath (at various levels and waiting for someone else to be in 'tomorrow'), - talking to my lawyer, - calling Springfield office of Secretary of State, and - a whole day to drive up to Waukegan for the ticket costing me more gas, tolls and a day of work. So 1 out of 5 for following their contracted, legal, fiduciary duty to file paperwork with State of Illinois (by simple computer website). I hate seeing a License plate holder from any of the McGrath dealerships on cars around Chicagoland. TLDR: They lie and don't follow up to their commitments.

I'm so happy we ended up at Northwest Auto. Working with Ray was a fantastic experience. First of all, there was NEVER any hard sell. I had one car I was interested in seeing. He brought me straight to that car, allowed a test drive to my home so I could show the family, and when I returned, all he asked was what I thought of the car. When I said I had heard a couple little sounds in the car, he told me to take the car to a mechanic I trust (they have a shop on site). When I brought the car to my mechanic, they found a couple things that would be a concern, but otherwise the car was great and very clean. I brought those concerns back to Ray, and before we even talked price and trade-in, he offered to fix everything that worried me, including replacing shocks (both of them) instead of a simple fix. I was given a VERY fair price for my trade in and it made the entire experience worthwhile. This is a neighborhood business first, and a used car lot second. Ray really took pride in his job and was obviously more interested in the well-being of my family than the sale of the car. I cannot recommend them enough. We will definitely be back if we ever need another used car.

Buyer beware! A pre-owned purchase can be perilous…read more The staff is generally arrogant and at times, confrontational. Virtually no negotation. Had to pay for shipment of purchased car- no problem. But they also made me pay for shipment of my trade-in. No concession. The car I purchased was a nearly new 2025 Porsche 718 Cayman GTS. It was fully certified by Porsche (CPO). I also had the dealership install PPF on the front of the car ($3000). The car was shipped 1000 miles to my home in the northeast. Upon arrival I saw that the front bumper had been drilled for a license plate frame....and that the film has just been put over the four holes! After much discourse, the pre-owned manager finally agreed to reimburse me for a portion of the PPF. But they would not cover the cost to repair the actual holes. Then they sent me photos from their original listing of the car on their wedbite where about six pixels showed what could barely be made out as drilled holes. "You should have looked at the pictures more closely", said the pre-owned manager. Do you think they should have disclosed the fact that the car had been drilled? I do. But then, they would have had to repair them...or sell the car for less. This dealership is not about customer relations. It's a 100% bottom dollar operation. And Porsche will not help you either should you have similar sitation. While the CPO report shows "no body damage". It does not consider holes drilled into the car to be an issue. Summary: N E V E R buy a pre-owned car from this dealership unless you either inspect it yourself, or pay for a full PPI.

**Worst Car Buying Experience I Have Ever Had**…read more This was by far the worst experience I have ever had purchasing a car. I had previously bought a vehicle from this dealership, which is why I was willing to come back and ready to purchase another one. Unfortunately, the way my family and I were treated this time completely changed my opinion of the dealership. From the beginning, Frank was extremely rude and seemed completely uninterested in doing business with us. I initially tried to work with Todd, who was at least respectful and professional. When we arrived, they were finishing up with another customer, and Todd was showing us the vehicle we were interested in. The difference in how that customer was treated compared with how my family and I were treated was noticeable. The vehicle was around $33,000, and I asked for $600 off the price. As a returning customer, I did not think this was an unreasonable request, especially considering I was not asking for thousands of dollars off. As soon as I made my offer, Frank became arrogant and dismissive. He made comments about how many cars they sell, how they would be fine without our business, how he was in charge, and how the price was the price. He repeatedly talked about being in the business for 20 years and never having a car they could not sell. At that point, it was no longer about the $600. It was about the complete lack of respect and professionalism we experienced. Frank's attitude made it very clear that he did not care whether he earned our business or had us as returning customers. The way he spoke to us and the comments he made were completely unnecessary and made what should have been a normal car buying experience extremely uncomfortable. I also want to address something that made this experience even more concerning. My family and I were treated noticeably differently from the customer who was there before us. Based on the circumstances and the difference in treatment, the experience left us feeling that race may have played a role in how we were treated. I cannot know what was going through their minds, but the difference was clear enough that I feel it is important to mention. Todd was at least respectful throughout the interaction, but unfortunately, that did not make up for the overall experience. I came back to this dealership because I had previously purchased a car from them, and I expected to be treated with basic respect and consideration as a returning customer. Instead, I left feeling like my business meant absolutely nothing to them. After this experience, I will not be returning, and I would not recommend this dealership to anyone. This was easily the worst car buying experience I have ever had. No matter how many cars a dealership sells or how long they have been in business, that should never be an excuse to treat customers with this level of disrespect.
