The steaks were cooked to perfection, seasoned just the right amount and not dry. The sides are a la carte and our waitress let us know that we can order some of the sides as "smalls" since it was just the two of us (thank goodness, otherwise that would've been a lot of food). Although we were full from our meal I know we had to try one of their cakes since I heard the portions are huge and delicious. The chocolate mousse cake did not disappoint. The chocolate was not overly rich or sweet the cookie crumble bottom balanced the mousse out. I will definitely be craving this place when I'm not in Chicago This is already on my list as "places to come back to" if I'm ever in Chicago again.

Nice touch with offering the option for the kitchen to slice it for you. At this point, we were pretty full and got lemon sorbet (not too sour, not too sweet) crème brûlée gelato (good) and because it was our 39th anniversary, he brought us an "Italian donut " (sugar donut with vanilla ice cream) that was great. I noticed another table getting the biscoff cheese cake, and carrot cake. They looked great and were HUGE. Coffee came a little late but that's being picky. Complimentary lemon cello ended the evening with a nice touch. My wife said the service and food made this a wonderful experience and a memorable anniversary. I agree. The ambiance is intimate, romantic, and just feels exclusive without trying too hard. I took my girl there for her birthday and she absolutely loved it -- which is always the real test. We had the ribeye and the Rotini Bianco, and both were excellent. The ribeye was cooked perfectly, tender and flavorful. The Rotini Bianco was rich, creamy, and done just right. Every dish felt intentional and well executed. Don't hesitate to book. If you're trying to impress or celebrate something special, this is the move.

The calamari appetizer was decent, though compared to the rest of the meal, it was slightly less memorable. For the entrees, the scallops were cooked to perfection with a rich, buttery, melt in your mouth texture. The roasted chicken was also incredible, super juicy and tender on the inside with perfectly crispy, seasoned skin. Since we were celebrating a birthday, they even surprised us with a complimentary dessert to finish the night. Everything was truly flawless from start to finish. Highly recommend for any date night or celebration!

This was my wife's big birthday and I know she loves RL. First I want to say the service was extraordinary. Even though they sat a table of 9 right next to us 15 minutes after we arrived, and our waitress became primarily involved with them, there was no drop off. We had several people making sure that our food was served promptly, etc. The food was the only problem, but a place like RL should never have an issue with food. #1 Oysters - were mediocre at best. They were small. (Nothing like the photos of Oysters below) 2 of the 6 were scary and did not smell right. We did not eat them. #2 Appetizer Calamari and Shrimp. This was worse than #1. I don't believe this should ever have left the kitchen. The Calamari was under-cooked (you can tell when the breading has fallen off before being served, and it looked under-cooked. Except for small pieces, it was indigestible as it was not cooked correctly. Impossible to bite through let alone swallow. The shrimp were little popcorn shrimp about the size of a dime. We counted 5. That would amount to the size of 1 medium shrimp. Entrees #1 Scallops. These were prepared correctly but they were gritty with sand in each one. No excuse for this. They sat on succotash corn medley which was quite bland. Entree #2 Perch with coleslaw. Again, the breading on the perch was just like the Calamari: Under-cooked with much of the breading having fallen off in transport from the kitchen. Tasted OK, but was not hot off the stove and lacking crunch (and breading)! The coleslaw was a step below KFC. Bland and for some reason shredded way too thin. The dressing was, ----not interesting. They did come by at least 3 times to ask how the food was, but A. it was my wife's birthday and we just wanted to enjoy our time there, and B. we needed to be en-route promptly to get to the UC for the Streisand concert. Would not have had time to re-cook everything that was problematic. All in all, it is such a nice restaurant, and the staff is exceptional but the food was a dud! read more

This review is not about one particular visit because we go every couple of months sometimes for lunch and sometimes for dinner. I simply love this place except it drives me crazy that you have to plan to go here. If you want a Friday or Saturday nite plan to book at least 3 weeks in advance for a 7pm reservation otherwise it's 5pm or 9pm.. If you want a 12pm lunch reservation again book at least 3 weeks out otherwise it's 11am or 2. it truly is organized chaos! Sometimes I'm up for that and others I just want a quiet relaxed evening. The decor is beautiful English country mansion. Midnight blue gaberdine on the walls behind Ralph Lauren's personal art collection beautiful and eclectic. Think fine oil painting in elaborate frame next to a simple photograph of mick jagger all with brass picture lights. Dark mahogany glass-fronted dressers holding antique silver. . The service is wonderful! And the food is delicious!! At those prices it should be. But they have crammed in so many tables and they have so many staff that everybody is always in someone's way! The bar area has a gorgeous fireplace and armchairs and books and I think it should be used for people who are waiting for their table (yes, they overbook). But no, they pull up a big table and serve silver service dinner to 2 people hogging the whole space. So when you've booked, a month in advance and arrived on time with your party of 6 and then wait 20 minutes for your table - standing in everyone's way because you can't get near the bar, it 's a little tense making. However, despite the fact that it'sso popular, this is one of my favorite restaurants. If you only have one nite for a truly fabulous and expensive treat. This is the place for you. One last comment, one time when my wife and I were having lunch here. My wife asked for something slightly different to the menu and Chris the server said "at Ralph lauren the lady may have whatever she want's" . Now that's real service read more

I returned to Chicago to revisit a few longtime favorites. Though I moved away nearly a decade ago, my travels, both professional and personal, have taken me everywhere but back to the city that once felt like home. After an inspiring jazz performance at the MCA, I treated myself to dinner at RL, a place that holds many fond memories. Even with a full dining room, RL continues to embody the elegance and attentiveness I remember so well. I was pleased to be seated on the patio, which felt spacious and comfortably cool for a late August evening. The ambient sounds of the city added a familiar rhythm that made the experience all the more special. For those unfamiliar with RL dining, I can say with confidence that the high standards associated with their fashion brand are equally reflected in their hospitality. The staff were gracious, professional, and remarkably composed, even when faced with a situation that disrupted the atmosphere. While they couldn't control a guest who allowed their hyper-reactive and socially aggressive lap dog to disturb others, the team handled it with tact, care, and discretion. I'm sincerely grateful for their thoughtful approach and commend the entire staff for maintaining such a high level of service and grace. read more

RL Restaurant is one of those Chicago dining experiences where the setting is just as much a part of the meal as the food. The space has that classic Ralph Lauren atmosphere: polished, elegant, and distinctly Chicago without feeling overly formal. I started with the escargot, which was a great choice. The preparation was rich and flavorful, and the texture was exactly what I was looking for. I also had a seafood dishes with shrimp and scallops, which was a nice change of pace and highlighted the seafood well without feeling too heavy. The cocktails were also well executed and complemented the meal nicely. There's something about having a well-made cocktail in a space like this that makes the whole experience feel a little more special. Overall, I gave RL Restaurant 4.5 stars. Screaming kids at 10:00 at night; uppity staff at the front desk, pontificating about "not turning away families" when you finally complain, having had your dinner ruined by the noise (suggested a not-under-14 rule, told by uppity desk guy to F. off); another (superfluous?) front-desk, thin-lipped, pompous jerk following you to tell you to shut up; extremely inexperienced, uppity girl throwing you out, for having told thin-lipped jerk to F. off -- "No One Talks Like That to Any of MY Staff" ...Ugh! This place needs some serious cleaning up. But do bring your little kids to Polo Chuckie Cheeses Lounge! (And, for a large fee, you--yes, you--may receive P.C. Lectures from Uppity Staff.) This place is great! I have been going here for years and will continue to eat at this gem for a long time. The food is mainly the reason I go. From a great burger to an excellent steak, it is all mouth watering. The food is simple and no complex which I think is key. It is extremely cozy and warm feeling. My favorite is sitting next to the fireplace if you can. It is a bit loud and crowded most of the time but well worth it. The staff is great and the wine selection is superb. Were seated immediately but placed next to the wait station even though the restaurant was basically empty when we arrived. This was somewhat distracting throughout the meal. Food was very good. Lobster bisque was tasty and highly recommend the scallops. They give a generous portion of large, succulent sea scallops served with a cucumber/tomato salad which was different but good. 1000 stars for the ambiance of the lounge (aka bar). You're immediately transported to a happier place of boozy, sexy, intimacy. One star for the very limited menu options -- neither my doctor husband or I eat meat or dairy, and they took all of the plant-based options off the menu and replace them with veal it seems LOL. I understand it's not a veg restaurant, but would be great if they had one or two dishes. With that said, they will make a veggie plate and are so happy to do so. Amazing experience from start to finish. Accommodating & knowledgeable staff. Cozy atmosphere. I felt like I was hanging out at RL's cottage. The elevator that took you to the bathroom was cool too. I ate probably one of the best burgers I have ever had topped with bleu cheese. I also found a small piece of metal in my fries so everyone at our table got dessert on the house. Yummy. Crab Louis for an appetizer. I was almost embarrased at how much I ate. I sort of felt like I was shoveling it into my mouth. Tomato Bisque soup.. Good but not great. Grilled salmon..great so tasty. My boyfriend ordered the stuffed pork tenderloin... he couldn't have been more pleased. Solid Americana. Reliable from every aspect. Lovely burgers, good lobster roll, funky liver, etc. Nice bread bites. Good dessert and coffee. Dependable service. A bit over priced for what it is...but given the location, and the name cannot really complain. I have been there many times in the last 11 years we have lived in Chicago. Nice for rainy days in downtown. Lovely for sunny days, eating in their "patio" on the street. read more

We had an incredible experience at The LR--sitting at the bar turned out to be the best decision. The lobster rolls, Caesar salad, and burger were all fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. I have to knock two stars from my last review. I'm not one to care about the size of a drink, unless it's extremely big or small. For some reason, the glasses of wine here are SO TINY! They use precise measurements, and I swear, there must be like three oz. per glass. A martini is regular-sized, but who wants to drink that during a ladies' lunch?? RL, please fix this! read more

The food was fantastic. My boyfriend and I had the porterhouse for two, string beans, and scalloped potatoes. The steak was by far the best steak I've ever had in my life, as were the string beans. If you're looking for a phenomenal steak, this is the place to go without a doubt. read more

As our hotel was just 2 blocks away, we decided to come here for dinner. So glad we did. We had a 6 pm reservation on a Tuesday evening. There was a short line at the hostess station, then we got seated quickly at a nice 4-top inside. We'd considered outdoor dining and many others were doing just that, but it was still very warm out. The hostess gave us menus as we got seated and very quickly, someone came by with water and a basket of sliced warm bread. A moment later, our waiter, Louis came by to greet us. He was very pleasant. He's been there for 29 years, so he knows this place, knows the menu and knows what the kitchen can and can't do. We needed time to study the dinner menu and wine list. When Louis returned, we asked a few menu questions and ordered a bottle of Stag's Leap Merlot. After enjoying some wine, Louis took our dinner order. The 2 of us shared: - Brick Chicken with Pan Sauce and Broccolini The Brick chicken takes about around a half hour to prepare and that worked out perfect for us and gave us time to enjoy the wine. Let me tell you about this meal.... It was AMAZING! This was the best chicken I have ever eaten! Crispy skin, great seasoning, a wonderful pan sauce and boneless except for the wing drumette. For us, the meal was large as it was a whole chicken (minus the legs) and a whole serving of pasta. We took half these meals home and Louis also packaged up some extra pan sauce. As we were working on our last glasses of wine, Louis asked of we would mine bumping over a table as they were preparing a number of tables for a large party. No problem with us. He also brought us each out a glass of house made Limoncello as a gesture. Not only do I look forward to returning to a Rosebud on our next visit to the Chicago area, I also look forward to trying to make my own Brick Chicken at home. It is a must visit - if only all hotel restaurants were this good. We had a late dinner reservation on a Saturday night, and the restaurant was almost emptied out. So that made for a lovely, semi-private dining experience. Selecting a wine was dicey, as earlier that week flooding had damaged the cellar (!), but our server, Alex, was very helpful and worked with us to find something to my liking. We landed on a 2015 Cornas which was showing beautifully and matched perfectly with our meal. Alex did a fantastic job taking care of us during the wine reconnaissance and throughout the meal. Speaking of which, we started with the deviled eggs, which were amazing. An elegant balance of cream and salt from the caviar. For my entree, i had the venison. It was a seared filet on I believe a sweet potato puree, and it was rich and tender. Order it rare, if its on the menu. Kelly had the filet, also rare, and found it to be superior to most Chicago steak house filets. Our side was the divinely creamy Aligot mashed potatoes. Don't skip on these! For dessert, there was a decadent, gout-tempting chocolate mousse preparation. Served tableside, its all you think you can eat. I had a heaping serving, ate some, took the rest home. Kelly had the (also) Decadent Chocolate Cake, which too was superb. Cocktails were excellent, as is the bourbon selection. Service was impeccable. Our dinner was long and leisurely, and we look forward to returning.

When you first walk in, you have to take the elevator up to the third floor, where a hostess was waiting at a golden black themed restaurant. This place is extremely ornate and luxurious as you walk in and greeted by a full air bar where all the liquor is positioned up in a translucent brass cabinet. Walking a little bit further into the restaurant, you see all of the chairs decorated with a gold studded Maroon leather. The tall ceilings give way to a illuminated faux skylight. The seating designs are minimal designed. We thought we were walking into a brunch menu but they had transitioned to lunch and re-ordered the lobster roll as well as the asparagus tip and almond pasta and the sweet potato fries.

Three hours on the second floor terrace on a flawless Chicago night, and none of the four of us…read morewanted to get up. That terrace is brand new. Carmine's went dark in 2023 and stayed dark for nearly three years while Rosebud put $4 million into rebuilding it, reopening this past January. The terrace over Rush Street came later, in June, roughly 125 seats looking down on Mariano Park. Reservations are not optional here, but the terrace is luck of the draw and ours came up. If you have any say in it, ask. Service is the part I want people to hear about. It was my wife and me and two of her old friends who live in the city, and we had a full team on us all night, every one of them welcoming, quick, and never hovering. The managers stood out most. They worked the floor the entire evening, watching tables, checking in, quietly holding a standard. When leadership is that present, the whole staff plays a level up, and you can feel it from your chair. Bread landed first and it was terrific, a real crackling crust with a soft middle. We went through more of it than we meant to. The table opened with the clams in red sauce. Spectacular, and that sauce is reason enough to keep some of the bread in reserve. Two specials carried the mains. I took the Chilean sea bass and loved it, rich enough that I slowed down halfway through and enjoyed the second half more for it. Tara and one of our friends both ordered the Dover sole. Beautifully cooked, and Tara found the seasoning a little timid. In fairness to the kitchen, our friend had no such issue with hers, so this may be a palate difference more than a miss. Our fourth ordered the short rib pasta and called it spectacular without pausing to think about it. The bar knows what it is doing. Tara's vodka cocktails were good across the board and my old fashioneds were built right. One friendly piece of intel that will make your drink better: ask for the big rock cube. They will not use one unless you request it, and on an old fashioned that single choice decides whether your drink holds up over an hour of conversation or turns to water while you talk. Noise on the terrace was pitched perfectly. Four people, one table, three hours, and nobody had to repeat themselves. On this stretch of Rush Street that is worth something. Easy walk from the Michigan Avenue hotels, so skip the car. Fair warning that a 3% service surcharge lands on the check. Five stars. Tara and I did not score every plate the same, but a terrace like that, bread like that, those clams, and a floor team that never let a thing slip is a night we are already trying to schedule again.

I will say the lasagna was the only 5 star highlight of the meal. we've now been twice since the renovation and both times the food was less than ideal and so we feel comfortable rating it as a basic 3 Star experience. The first time we'd give our service a 5/5, the second visit it was barely a 2/5 service experience. all in all, I'd rate this as a barely 3 star review with a very big sad face. we probably shouldn't have gone back after the first time but we really really wanted our old favorite to be good again, but it just wasn't.

Overall, I had a good experience here and would be interested in trying out other items on their menu!
