My husband ordered a chicken fried steak meal and I had the steak- they were both great and the painkiller drink is my new favorite drink! Two dinners here over the last 2 months while in town for concerts. The food is a solid four stars, service is more like three, just because it is inconsistent from one server to the next or one day to the next. The first visit, we had nice wines by the glass, and a dozen raw oysters which were tasty and well presented. Now that oysters are $24 per dozen, they should always be served nicely, and with all the accompaniments! That night I had a filet, and hubby had a very flavorful sirloin. On our second visit, we both started with side salads, which had flavorful tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers, red onion rings, and homemade croutons on a bed of mixed greens. I had the sirloin, cooked exactly to the right temperature, and hubby went for chicken fried chicken and sweet potato fries. I had a beer with dinner, Tank seven which I love, and hubby went for a piece of red velvet cake at the finish. All the food was excellent. Where the inconsistency lies is in service. I remember it from the first visit, but the second visit was even a better example. Our waitress was very pleasant, and very attentive at first, almost to the point of rushing us a bot to order, even though it was early in the night. We ordered, got our food, she checked back once after, and she dropped the check pretty quickly thereafter without checking for additional drinks or offering dessert. We had to flag her down to ask for those things, get her to pick up the check again, and then could not find her when we were ready for the check. The only real peeve I had was hearing the table next to us be told the specials for the evening (we were not) and being offered warm bread and butter, which we were not offered or brought. A little more attention by management to these type of inconsistencies would net them happier customers and probably higher tabs. That said, for a small town this is a pretty nice dining experience. Was passing through town and, based on the great reviews, decided to try this place. Bad idea. Very high prices for not very good food. I had their stroganoff. I love the blend of tomato and sour cream flavors. Even had it at a little restaurant in St Petersburg, Russia just a block from the house of stroganoff. What this place served was not stroganoff. It was a read dish sauce with pepper in the place of sour cream. Added was very tough large chunks of steak. My wife had seafood Alfredo which was definitely not Alfredo but sure used a lot of pepper - presumably to pretend it was flavorful. We have tried KC Roadhouse with its new management and menu 3 times now. Sadly we are still underwhelmed. We really liked the old version so much better. They once had very good fresh cut French fries now they have steak fries that may be prepared from frozen, too soft. Their chicken fried steak does not compare to the ones we get at Chili's. They have a 'burger' that comes on lightly toasted marble rye. It had the potential to be a very good patty melt, but I had to wait till I got home and pan fried it with butter to taste what it should have been. All in all we sure wish the old owners and food would come back. read more

This restaurant is listed here on YELP as two places, the KC Roadhouse Bar and Grill, and then, just Roadhouse Bar and Grill. We had some confusion finding it for that reason. Once we found it, were seated at the bar, and served, we were so pleased with everything! We were leaving the state for a week, and were already road-weary by lunchtime. The atmosphere, the congeniality, the food---all helped revive us for the miles ahead. We shared a Turkey Wrap special and some Potato Chips (made on-site) based on Dione's (our server) suggestion. My family eat's here whenever we visit Durant. The atmosphere is great, parking good, menu excellent. The wait staff can be either hit or miss. Sometimes you get a pro and sometimes you get one that acts like it's their first day - and you have to be careful about this when the bill can be a couple hundos. IMO, the steaks are the star of the show, hickory smoked goodness. To be honest, we haven't strayed far from this. The last time we visited on a Saturday night, the place seemed to be lost and out if it's depth. Busy with a small wait that turned into a big wait. I don't know what the problem was. After ordering I think we waited the better part of an hour for food to arrive from the kitchen. Most tables were in the same situation. Bill wrong at the end (some food never arrived). Our experience was terrible. When we arrived on a Wednesday we were quoted a wait time, which I found surprising. I thought it might be worth the wait as all my coworkers have told me that this was one of the best places in town. We waited about 15 minutes to be seated, and the waitress took our order immediately, so no complaints on that part. I ordered the Chicken Fried Chicken with a baked potato, and my wife got the pork chop with sweet potato fries. It took 45 minutes for us to get our food. I'd expect to wait that long on a Friday or Saturday, but not a Wednesday. Chicken Fried Chicken - the batter loosely covered the chicken so when cutting into it the battered skin tore off. The only flavor in it was pepper, lots and lots of pepper. Baked Potato - I got it "fully loaded" with butter, sour cream, bacon, and green onions. Didn't come with that much. Whenever I took a bite of the skin it felt gritty in my teeth. Seemed like they didn't wash it well enough. Pork Chop - the pork chop was seasoned well, but had almost no fat on it. To my wife and I, that's one of the best parts. Sweet Potato fries - they were soggy, not crunchy at all. I don't know how you like your fries, but to us soggy is never good. We also got the chips and guacamole as an appetizer, the guacamole had almost no lime juice or spice in it. It tasted like just avocado with tomato chunks in it. No flavor. We have visited Roadhouse at least once a month for the past several years and we have never once been disappointed. Lunch and dinner are different menus, and the lunch menu is fairly inexpensive. The dinner menu is outstanding and great for a special evening out. It finally occurred to me to review the restaurant today because I took some friends to Roadhouse for lunch today and I made a big deal about how great it is and THEY LOVED IT. Whew! You know sometimes you go on and on how great a place is and people are disappointed. But Roadhouse does not disappoint. Our server has been with the restaurant for several years and always remembers me, which he did today. How are you? How are the grandkids? Sure we can make you a turkey-avocado-bacon wrap even though it's not on our menu! Made me so proud. :) Salads are perfect. Ranch dressing is freshly made. Reuben is great. Hamburgers are yummy. Wraps are fantastic. Dinner: Grilled chicken breast is huge, juicy and delicious. The mushroom sauce is outstanding. Grilled pork chop is huge and flavorful. The steaks always come out the way you want them. The salmon is delicious. Sides are all good. My only warning is don't come on a Friday or Saturday night after about 5:30 with the idea you will sit right down and eat. There will probably be a wait. You may want to call for a reservation. We went based on good reviews. 2 ordered 4 oz sirloin with baked potato and salad, 1 ordered chicken fried steak. Nothing wrong with chicken fried steak, okra great. Upon arriving we ordered 3 wines and 3 waters. Waitress returned to take our food order and we again asked where were our wines and also waters that we ordered 10 minutes prior. We were told they are working on it. 15 minutes later 2 salads were delivered without any dressing and 1 salad had cucumber,tomatoes,radishes mixed with greens the other salad was only greens. 5 minutes later we received our salad dressing after asking for it (still no drinks). 10 minutes later our main courses were served (still no drinks) we told them to cancel our wines and bring us some water. We then were visited by bartender and told that our waitress hadn't input our drink orders and they were on the way. Finally received wines and water. Everything about the chicken fried steak and side dishes was great! However both 4 oz sirloins were thin pieces of meat approximately 2 inches wide and 2 1/2 long and was probably no more than 2 oz of meat about 2-3 bites at best. Used to be so good under the previous ownership. Had high hopes for this place, but had a terrible experience there last fall. Food took over an hour and had terrible service and attitudes. When we inquired where our order was we were told "can't you see were very busy"? Well of course I could see that, but I can't understand why it would take over an hour for food. Fast forward to last Saturday. Made the mistake of meeting people there for dinner. Was going to give them the benefit of the doubt and figure they just had a really bad night last fall. Spent $300 on dinner for 6. Very high prices for food that is OK at best. $48 for a small steak is ridiculous. My husband had a drink from the bar which came out relatively quickly, I ordered wine and waited over 15 minutes. Doesn't really make sense. They bring out nice appetizers with no dipping sauces. Then they bring the sauces out one at a time for some strange reason. And you're not really sure which sauces go with which appetizer, why they don't just put it together with the appetizer and present it nicely is beyond me. The service was incredibly slow, the server forgot things several times, he was very friendly but I think he's in the wrong line of work. The restaurant itself is in disarray, tables are not in any order, some have tablecloths, some don't, just unexplainable lack of attention to detail. Restroom is not so hot either. I will not make the mistake of going there again. Unfortunately there aren't a lot of good places to eat in Durant, unless you want to go to the casino and go to their steakhouse. You're better off driving over to Denison or Sherman. read more

Well, for being in Durant, OK, it's a pretty solid place. Their bar is very accommodating, with the bartender open to the fineries of improvements in their negroni preparation. The bartender is very nice to customers. Their kitchen does solid prep on their steaks, but they use a mesquite rub on their meat to impart mesquite flavor. Use the real deal, guys, and your quality will vastly improve. Sides were good, overall, but the alligator is frozen alligator meat deep-fried. Not marvelous. On the whole, a pretty good place when it comes to the bar and the quality of the beef. Some fineries to preparation would be nice, but it's Durant. read more

Prices are higher and the food, while not terrible, isn't as good as it was. I don't eat here anymore. Not worth the money.]. I have since given this restaurant another try. My experience in 2022 was much better! The food was back to its former glory and the new menu options were good. I especially liked the spicy burger (I forget the actual name) and the Cobb salad. Update: We were in town for the day, decided to try Roadhouse again since the new owners took over. Service: Very good, no wait, food came out fast. Food: We ordered Spinach dip, it came in a cast iron skillet and was OK, warm, cheese inside the dip wasn't melted. Husband ordered a sandwich and baked potato, no complaints, it was a good sandwich. I ordered chicken with mushroom sauce and fries. Chicken was very good, sauce was good, needed garlic or salt, not much flavor. But it wasn't a broken sauce so that's good. French fries... well they used to have fresh cut fries, now it's frozen steak fries, not good. I get it, it's easier, you order theses fries for your other restaurant too or it's just easier to open a bag of frozen fries and fry them. But here's the thing, it's a nice restaurant, you serve high end chicken, fish and filet mignon steak... you expect people to pay high end prices for dinner and be good with frozen fries? Nope. We will be back, just not as often, we used to come by every time we were in town. I'm sure the owners are nice and they have a right to change whatever they want, it's their restaurant. I just like to eat at places that can cook better than I do, and even I don't cook frozen food. read more

Two of us went in for the first time around 1:00 on a Tuesday. The restaurant was relatively busy. We decided to split the Chicken Fajita Wrap and the Tortilla Soup! Both orders were surprisingly underwhelming. The Fajita Wrap was merely chicken, lettuce, and cheese dressed in a "spiced" Caesar salad dressing all wrapped up in a spinach tortilla. The Tortilla Soup was like no other. It was not a broth but rather a corn chowder topped with avocado and chips. Other than the food being subpar, the service was great. As a Californian, I thought this place had a great atmosphere and the most friendliest servers I've seen, so it was unfortunate when our food took an HOUR to come out of the kitchen only for mine to be completely rare in the center when I asked for medium rare. I lost my appetite by this time, which was a shame since the food is absolutely delicious. Three parties were seated after us, yet they finished their dinners by the time they barely brought out our food. To top it all off, we expressed our concerns to both our waiter and hostess, only to be given one small slice of chocolate cake (even though we agreed on the strawberry cake). Such a damn shame. My Wife and I stopped by KC Roadhouse on Friday night to grab a bite. Place was Packed which is always good. We were surprised to see High End PES Oysters in the menu! Had to try some! They were really good. The Steaks were flying outta that kitchen like crazy!! Man ! They smelled so good! Fresh Black Grouper?? Heck yes! We both did. Food was good and the server was friendly and attentive. The only thing we (my wife) noted was that the ladies restroom was in a horrible state of cleanliness. Had she seen it before we ordered food we would have left. And quite frankly, I was shocked when she came out and told me about the state of the facilities because everything else about the place was very nice. Hopefully this was an isolated incident but it really turned us off and I doubt we will give it a second try. Bad food or bad service I am willing to give a second chance, but cleanliness in an eating establish is something hard for me to overlook. I was visiting a friend and he suggested we go here for lunch . Very impressive ! The decor is very nice , service awesome. Food was great ! My friend has a patty melt . It was fresh and very tasty ! I had a salad and fried mushroom. Best fried mushrooms I have had. Not heavy on the batter and a great flavor. Salad was fresh, dressing made there. Highly recommended if visiting Durant OK.
