    Honey butter fried chicken sandwich
    Monica K.

Stopped by the Roaming Rooster truck today for lunch. I think the hype and press the truck got from the "fried chicken sandwich wars" between fast food restaurants factored into this, but the line was incredibly long around 1:15pm. I waited for about 40 minutes from the time I got in the line to the time I received my order. Not sure I would do that again too often, but I was caught up in the hype too. I ended up going with the honey butter fried chicken sandwich. They also have a buffalo, Nashville hot, and regular option. The menu also includes fries, drinks, pickles, etc. I only waited about 10 minutes after placing my order. My sandwich was hot and totally worth the wait. I let my boyfriend have a bite and he wanted to eat the entire thing! It was the right amount of sweet, crunchy, and simple. I will definitely be back, maybe once the press dies down a bit, to try more options.

Came here on a Sunday evening and it was booming. The line was wrapped around the tables and we had to wait at least 30mins. We knew at this point it was probably worth the wait. And it totally was. All my friends got different items off the menu so I got to try them all. Wings (medium heat) - I dont handle spice well but this had the perfect amount of kick to it. The meat was juicy and the batter was crispy delicious Fried chicken (medium heat) - This bad boy came with like 3 pieces of chicken inside and it was a handful. Just like the wings the spices and batter was delicious Nashville Sandwich (hot heat) This one was way too spicy for me but if you like heat this is for you without a doubt Buffalo Sandwich This one was good too but my least favorite I felt like there was too much sauce, but still a good sandwich Sides The fries were so so nothing that made it stand out. The mac and cheese is normal as well I wouldnt say it's bad or good. Their spicy mayo and mustard sauce is my favorite. Drinks I got the half and half and it was a little sweet for me so I drank some and poured some water in to dilute it Pro: -Everything was delicious, I cant even compare it to Popeye's cause Roaming Rooster is in a different league Cons: -Not enough space and seating inside Tips: -If you come with friends try to order different items and then share with one another so you get the whole experience. -Try to preorder if you can to save time

I was on vacation a couple of weeks ago and some coworkers mentioned that I needed to try this food truck when I got back, so lo and behold, it was near my office again so I decided to try them out. I ordered the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich with the heat level of Hot (Get Ready Fire) because I love fried chicken and I love hot and I also love sandwiches, but I'm not usually a fan of chicken sandwiches because they are usually too dry. This sandwich was not. I also ordered a side of fries with sriracha mayo. Everything was delicious! The chicken didn't seem that spicy as part of the sandwich. I did have a piece of chicken that fell out of my sandwich, and that was legit spicy when eaten separately. Only then did I notice that I was sweating. It was definitely worth the sweat. I wonder if there is a spicy food diet? yum! The slaw that came on and around the sandwich was quite oniony, so be aware of that if you don't like onions or are a close talker. My fries were very slightly disappointing, but hear me out. I think I got the bottom of the bag, because I think I had three fries that were longer than an inch. It probably would have been easier to eat them with a spoon. BUT... one of my coworkers said that the fried to middle ratio was much greater. True. True. Had I thought about them as little fried potato pieces (like a deconstructed hash brown) I wouldn't have thought twice. I'm sure it happens at the bottom of each bag of fries, so I can't be mad about it, but thought it was worth mentioning. I'll definitely get food from here again. Like I said, I love fried chicken, spicy and sandwiches.

This is my favorite chicken sandwich food truck! They are parked near me twice a week, which is convenient if I ever crave for it during the week. Highly recommend any of their chicken sandwiches, and you will not be disappointed! Their Nashville Chicken Sandwich is quite good, and you can get it spicier if you really want a good kick. The Honey Butter Chicken Sandwich is definitely on the opposite side of the spectrum on the taste buds since this one is sweet and light. If you haven't had the chance to check it out, do yourself a favor, and give it a try! I recommend it to all of my coworkers.

Had a good experience - super quick service and when you need a quick chicken sandwich , it hits the spot. The only thing is that the prices do not include a beverage or side. Price is per sandwich , not combos

Once a week, for like 2 minutes, I go on foodtruckfiesta to see what food trucks are relatively close by. Then I cross reference them with yelp to make sure it's something that I'm looking for. Well lucky for me, Roaming Rooster is my perfect option based on personal research. I had to walk a bit to Franklin Square where they set up shop for the day but I'll tell you right now it was worth it. The line wasn't too long and I already knew I wanted to try their honey butter fried chicken sandwich with coleslaw, and fries on the side. Once back in the office, I went to work and devoured this meal. The sandwich tasted so damn good. The crispy fried chicken was juicy and full of flavor, with the sharpness of the cheddar cheese and the sweetness of the honey butter/coleslaw making my tastebuds do the dirty dance. I would take breaks between bites of the sandwich to eat the fries with sriracha mayo which was also fantastic. It was slightly pricey but I would recommend this meal to everyone and I'll definitely be back for more!

First time trying out food from here as I was looking for something new to try. Won't be the last as I want to try other things on the menu. Placed order online because of COVID-19. Went to the food truck and they had my order ready when I got there. Nice and tender chicken and the honey butter was a nice touch. Very juicy and very good.

My husband and I chose Roaming Rooster for dinner at Midnite BBQ (on this note, I won tickets through Yelp which I appreciated, but this event was a total cluster and I would have been super mad if we had purchased tickets for this event as the $35 admission included zero, zilch, nothing). The service was awkward. It was cash only, which is why I suspect they had no line. We had to ask for a fork, napkins, and sauces more than once. It looked like only one person was cooking and they seemed ill-prepared even for the small, 5 order crowd. My husband ordered the buffalo fried chicken sandwich and added fries. The fry portion was very generous for $2 BUT they were cold and mostly limp. The sandwich, however, had a nice kick from the buffalo sauce but did not contain the advertised blue cheese. The chicken to bread ratio was satisfactory. I ordered the fried chicken and coleslaw. The coleslaw was vinegar based and had some jalapenos thrown in which I enjoyed. It was good, but the portion was completely overwhelming to the amount of chicken. The fried chicken was pre-cut and the portion seemed larger than that on my husband's sandwich. It was well cooked (like as in not raw) and between not dry but not juicy. I liked the sriracha mayo and the honey mustard for dipping. While this was the best option on offer, I doubt I would return to Roaming Rooster if I saw it again. It's not that anything was bad, it just wasn't that great either.

Ordered take out here with some friends to support local during quarantine. I got the fried chicken salad and a side of fries. It was delicious and the price is great. It was a lot of food and the chicken was spicy spicy, even at a medium. Definitely coming back!

I was craving fried chicken so I decided to order from Roaming Rooster. This was my second time ordering from here and both times the fried chicken was tender, crispy and very flavorful. I can never finish the sandwiches since they're so big! I recommend the spicy Nashville chicken sandwich if you're feeling spicy (it has a nice kick to it), or the honey butter chicken sandwich if you're craving comfort food. The fries are good too and i love pairing it with their honey mustard.

I will start off with.. BEST CHICKEN SANDWICH possibly ever! I am from Mississippi and I know my chicken sandwiches. I have tried so many chicken sandwiches in DC and this is far the best in the area. I've been wanting to try their chicken sandwiches for about a year but have not been able to find any of their trucks due to schedule conflicts and truck locations. However, today a truck was in my neighborhood and I tried it. The workers were very nice and fast. There was a line for the truck but the food came out very fast. I only waited about 5 minutes. I tried both the honey butter fried chicken sandwich and the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. The great thing about roaming rooster is you can choose how spicy you want any of the sandwiches to be. I ordered the honey butter with medium spicy. The honey butter flavor is unreal! The medium spicy was just enough to give it a solid heat kick. I also tried the Nashville hot and it was good too! It had more of a hot sauce heat/flavor and it was accompanied with good slaw and pickles! The honey butter was by far the best! Also, their fries are super good! Highly recommend.

Freaking Amazing!!!!! A friend had read an article about this joint and asked if my husband and I had been here yet (at the time we have not), so we decided to check it out and see if the article lived up to our chicken sandwich expectations; it really did! The chicken is juicy and tender and the slaw isn't over powering in the sandwich. These sandwiches beats Chick-Fil-A any day!!! It's also a 20 min drive from where we live, but it's definitely worth the trip! Pregnant woman approved!

Honey butter fried chicken sandwich from the food truck ($10)

Ever since the chicken sandwich craze started and Roaming Rooster's sandwich went viral, I had to see for myself because I'm bandwagon like that. Luckily for me, the Roaming Rooster food truck was parked right outside of my office, so I finally got the chance to try it - because let's be real - their brick and mortar is not centrally located. Only one other person was in line ahead of me when I approached the truck at lunch time (~1pm). Everyone else was already queued up waiting for their sandwiches. I ordered the honey butter fried chicken sandwich (pretty self-explanatory but also comes with cheddar cheese) which cost $10 even. I'm assuming it was mild (you can choose mild, medium, or hot for heat level) because I didn't specify (and they didn't ask), and my mouth wasn't on fire. My sandwich was ready 15 minutes later. The sandwich is good. The chicken was crunchy and moist, as fried chicken should be. The soft bread holds up to the chicken while still giving it contrast. The cheddar cheese didn't add anything to the sandwich. The honey butter gave the chicken a hint of sweetness, but unfortunately there was a puddle of melted honey butter at the bottom of my container (but it was still good for dipping). Ultimately these components did not lead to a sandwich that I will crave. People have said that this is the best chicken sandwich, but I would argue that compared to the $3 to $6 sandwiches at Popeyes and Chick-fil-A, it better be. For $10, it is on the pricey side for just a sandwich, but the serving size is fair. I chose not to add on fries ($2 extra), but if I did, that would have given me two lunches. I still want to try their classic fried chicken sandwich, and next time I will opt for the fries. But until then, four stars.

Honey butter chicken. Butter dripping off the side. Very good!

They are amazing, but are based in the upper part of DC and I don't think they are licensed to serve in VA.

My daughters each had beef pho from the Pho-Nation and Vietnamese Food trucks (piping hot flavorful broth, plenty of noodles, slices of tender beef, cilantro, and accompanied with hot sauce and lime wedges on the side); my wife had the falafel salad from the Quick Bites truck which was outstandingly tasty and light, made with a chickpea and fava bean combination with a herb blend that gave them a unique green color on the inside; while I had the gyro platter from the same truck. Excellent lamb meat, well-seasoned, good tzatziki sauce, and accompanied by a fresh salad and stewed chickpeas. About $9 each for these meals and the trucks take credit cards. Don't settle for the tourist trap food trucks lined up near the Smithsonian museums -- these are terrible with microwaved pizza slices and hot dogs only ... make the short walk to these real food trucks and you won't be disappointed.

Both times I've ordered the same thing - a quarter dark meat with one side. It comes with basmati rice (which you can sub out for a different side) and a choice of a salad, coleslaw, and corn. I've chosen the coleslaw both times - I find it so unique, with its cabbage and basil-like dressing. Definitely NOT your usual slaw. I will try the corn one of these days, though. On to the chicken - They give you a good amount of chicken and it is very, very juicy. I can't comment about the skin (I don't eat the skin, I take it off...I know to some of you that's a sin!) but my co-workers have previously commented that it is nicely seasoned. They also provide you with a mild barbeque sauce, and today they gave me a new sauce, which was curry-based. It's slightly thicker than the barbeque sauce, which while it has good flavor, is a bit thinner (it complements, not overpowers, the chicken). I alternated between both sauces today. I have to also complement the owner/manager - I had exactly $8 in cash (keep forgetting about the taxes for food trucks!) so he let me go without paying the $.80, that was really nice of him. I'll be sure to give it back to him next time! Overall, a solid, filling meal, and I would return!

**** 4.5 stars ****…read more As one of the progenitors of "better" street food for the DC area, Andy Kim and his family have been providing a quality lunch time meal at a fantastic price for several years now at their famous L St cart (http://www.yelp.com/biz/bulgogi-cart-washington#hrid:P03Wi3K_BGfBmyV7WowE_g). I'm not sure whether the idea to open up this additional spot was to cash in on the food truck craze currently engulfing the District, or if he just wanted a second location and this was more convenient than lugging around another cart each day. Whatever the reason, I'm glad he's here. This new location, right in front of the Metro Center station, is marginally closer to me, and it's a pleasant shady walk the whole way around noon. The truck (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/GD4QOboiYcXUKbFw5DvjbA?select=8kLF59cmaVQyGxu6x_Mzdw) is just as easy to spot as the cart ever was, so just look for the bright yellow spot in the midst of drab grey buildings. Andy said that he and his dad are now manning this truck, while his mom and sister take over operations back at the original cart. The prices are all the same as before, $7 for any combo of beef or chicken, spicy or not, however they do not offer the kimbap sushi here like they do at the cart, which doesn't really affect me. I'm not sure if they make all the sauce at once, and then distribute it among the two locations each day, but it definitely tasted slightly different than what I've gotten from my visits to the L St cart. The 3 times I've picked up my usual spicy combo (a mix of half spicy chicken and half spicy bulgogi) from here it has been the perfect balance of heat and flavor. Add in a double order of their sweet vinegar "salad" to cool off the heat and I'm totally set. That's really the main reason I'm bumping this up to a 4.5, because at $7 for a giant plate of food this is really tough to beat. If they could ever get their kimchi to not suck I would probably give them a 5 and put them right up there with Fojol Brothers.
