Recently went to Roberta's and was pretty disappointed, mainly with the service. I had tried Roberta's pizza once before when they just had a pop up at The Platform in Culver City, and I was blown away by the quality of the pizza. At the time I considered it the best pizza I had ever had. The quality of ingredients was amazing and the crust was perfect. Maybe this is why I had such high hopes when I went to Roberta's a couple weeks ago, on 3/7/19 around 8pm. The pizza was good but not nearly as good as before. The crust was really undercooked. We had a veggie dish that was good but you really couldn't taste a vegetable in it, just the sauce they were drowned in. What I did love was the house bread with anchovies & butter. As for the bad service- I would never go back just for this reason. They were busy, but I have never in my life waited so long to be helped or even glanced at. It was painful. There were 4 of us and we were seated immediately, so it seemed especially odd that no one came to our table for about 15 minutes. We put in a drink order and an appetizer when our server finally greeted us. We had been at our table for over an hour before our server came back to take our pizza orders.... this was after we asked another server to find her and told him how long we had been waiting. When she returned to our table, there was no apology and she acted annoyed that she had to do her job that night. Not to mention you can't even tell who works there because the employee uniform can only be described as borderline homeless hipster. The whole place feels like it is trying too hard to be so hip...... We just want some good pizza! read more

Food was decent; service was awful. The restaurant was empty and we tried to get a table for four and our whole party wasn't present, which is understandable. Shortly after, we had two people out of four (with the other two en route), and tried to grab a table again to which the hostess told us: "We're ready for you, but you're not ready for us..." ...what?! Finally, our whole party arrived and there were no more tables available. We tried to get back in line to put our name down the hostess SKIPPED us in line, moving past us and getting the name of the person behind us, before taking down our name. This is for pick-up, never been to NY location so review only based on Pizza I got in Culver City. It is just ok better choices out there at a lower price point such as Brunello Trattoria for margarita pizza. The second issues is their whole no phone to call in orders or ask questions specials. Have to use caviar app. According to them, it is best to come in an order at the bar so you can see what they have that day then wait. I'm Italian so I didn't have great expectations; but this place is not bad, if you want to get a rough idea of what eating an Italian pizza is. The pizza was pretty thin and slightly burnt in the edges. A Margherita costs $17 (5 times what you would be in Italy) but overall, for being in Culver C wasn't too bad. I don't know all the ingredients within the dough but whatever they use it's light but filling. The salad was a little bizarre as we thought we were getting a salad with mandarin oranges but it was a plate of mandarin oranges with seasoning and jalapeños- just okay. Every girl on Instagram will tell you that Roberta's is the only place to see and be seen eating pizza right now in LA and maybe they're right, but I left feeling completely baffled. I'll preface this by saying that I believe that all new restaurants should be given the benefit of the doubt, but I also believe that pizza should be casual and not fussy. Roberta's is many things, but simple and casual are not on that list. Walking up to the the restaurant for dinner I noticed it was only about half-full only to then walk around the corner to find a line of people waiting to be let inside to order. A pizza-bouncer of sorts, looking like one of the Haim sisters, guarded the door while handing out menus and letting groups inside to order at the counter one-by-one . When I noticed that only one of the pizzas on the menu included meat, I asked her how I might go about adding meat -- she looked at me deadpan and said "I wouldn't recommend adding meat". Meanwhile, there is a large glass meat locker featured prominently at the front of the restaurant. I was also informed that they "only serve juice based cocktails" when I inquired about the drink list. I was born and raised in LA, but this might have been the most absurd thing I have ever heard. Still perplexed, we finally make it to the counter to order only to encounter more attitude. There's Budweiser "ironically" stocked in the refrigerator display and we're told that we don't pay at the counter, or even order drinks there, we only order pizza there. We are also instructed that we don't get to pick our table like you might get to at a regular counter order style restaurant. The woman at the counter looks at me with concern and cuts me off mid-sentence, adding, "....so you've never been to the Roberta's in Brooklyn??" in full-vocal fry. Don't get me wrong: the pizza itself was great. The entire experience, however, was overly complex and oozed with pretentiousness. Wow wow wowwww! One of the best wood fired pizzas I've ever had!!! Brooklyn's famous pizza joint finally hits the west side. I heard great reviews of Robertas and it definitely lived up to its expectations. Came here after a bad experience at another restaurant, and decided to get a pizza to go from the take out side. The service was impeccable. Everyone who passed by the take out door from inside and outside asked if we've been helped already. Ordered a margarita pizza, it was a classic choice that will never disappoint. Decided to eat it on the bench nearby since it was hot out of the oven. The dough was super tasty, the bottom was thin, and a soft pillow crust with the tastiest tomato sauce. After we were done we went to throw away our empty pizza box, someone who worked there was passing by and said he'll take it for us. After visiting their pop-up for the last two years, we were really excited to visit their permanent location. We definitely didn't mind waiting 40 minutes for a table. Once we got a table, the restaurant is very nice. However, the service was absolutely terrible. Two out of the 3 items we ordered got lost somehow. Our waiter couldn't care less about us, and one of the other servers eventually got us the missing pizzas. Even though they suggested to send over a manager, nobody ever came to talk to us or apologize. Bottom line: Good food, terrible service. Doesn't live up to the hype. Came here on a Saturday and was told it was a 45 min wait. We gave our name and number for the list and it was honestly maddening bc there's no reservations (so we're told anyway) yet at least 2-3 empty tables and a long line out the door. One person in our party had to rush out to another obligation so we got in on bar seats after a few minutes. The server was knowledgeable on the menu, warned us pizza orders were taking 40 mins to come out, and she was also quick and efficient which I really appreciated. Our text for a table came in well over an hour and we were super happy to have gotten seats at the bar. Totally agree with the crowd: GET THE BEE STING PIZZA! It's absolutely delightful. I am from NY with some great pizza and this was seriously impressive. We also got the polenta with sea urchin (just ok imo), cacio e pepe (what's not to like?), famous original pizza (it's got a slight spicy kick), and the bee sting! Totally delicious pizza. I've never had the original but I lived in NYC for years and this is the real deal. It's not NY style pizza, it's the Neapolitan style that many of the best LA pizzas (Gjelina, Pizzeria Mozza) have adopted. You either get lucky and find residential but have to read about 15 different signs to distinguish whether the time you've parked is open to public or if you actually need a permit. Ambiance: I came on a friday with friends and got pretty lucky arriving at 7pm which is early cause when we left around 830, the line was long. It's dimly light so do not recommend coming on a first date or blind date because you're potentially opening up yourself to be catfished. Drinks: I'm on an alc detox, so just requested for hot water (it was really cold outside, like a legit 60 degrees which is really below 0 for all angelos.) Plot twist, they HAVE hot water just no container as all drinkware are glassware. So instead I went with "warm water." Not the best situation but not life threatening. Food: if you've just worked out and need to binge, do not opt in for pasta. The serving is small, get the pizza. Food was delish but again, pasta serving was the size of my hand rolled up in a fist. Waitress also really sold on their stracciatella. Before you think HOLY SHITAKE $14 for bread and cheese? Just order it and see. The bread isn't some basic bread from the baked goods section at ralphs, that thing is made with all the love from a magical fairytale book - the best part? You can taste it in the bread. I love Brooklyn and Roberta's so I'm thrilled with the new place at thePlatform in Culver City. The wait is treacherous at night so opt for an early dinner or late lunch and you won't have to wait at all. The patio is quaint but a bit noisy so we ate inside. I loved the bright interior. Our server and manager Nadia was very knowledgeable about the menu and helped us make wonderful selections. We had the yummy homemade bread and butter with Sicilian anchovies. We ate every last drop and I personally could have eaten it again today! The bread was crusty and baked to perfection. But let us discuss the thin crust Lil' Stinker Pizza. Heard that this popular NYC pizzeria finally opened at the Platform and decided to check it out. They offer both take-out and dine-in options. We choose to come between lunch and dinner to try to avoid crowds and lucky for us they weren't busy when we stopped by. FOOD Bee Sting 5/5 White Guy 4.5/5 Famous Original 3.5/5 Lil Stinker 3/5 Spicy honey is the latest pizza craze and Roberta's version (bee sting) is delicious. It's a bit spicier than other ones I've had but with more honey flavor in each bite. Somehow this pizza makes sweetness, spiciness and saltiness work together. It does get a bit oily so be sure to have napkins ready. The white guy was another pizza we enjoyed. We love garlic and this pizza had lots of it! Paired together with mozzarella, parmigiano and ricotta made for a simple but good pizza. The lil stinker didn't turn out as great as we hoped. It was a bit spicy for me which made it hard for me to taste much of the flavor. As for the famous original, it was ok. Just a simple pizza, nothing really special about it. Overall the pizzas had a good amount of char on the crust if that's your thing. A side note, we originally wanted to try the Normcore pizza but it was not offered when we went which was a bit of a bummer. Overall: 4/5 SERVICE Could be better. Apparently the hostess was no where to be found so another server had to seat us. She had NO idea what she was doing. We told her outside was ok as long as it wasn't in the sun (because it was a hot day). I guess she took that as not seating us outside so she decided to seat us inside in the far corner counter area. Why would anyone even offer that as a spot? There is barely enough room for a plate! Meanwhile there were plenty of tables she could have sat us in. Inside there is a bar/counter area in addition to table seating. What is odd is the entrance. When walking from the parking structure past Loqui and Aesop you see the outdoor eating area but its closed off. Instead you have to walk all the way around past SoulCycle to get to an entrance that they mainly use for take-out orders. It would be much easier if they opened an entrance from the outside patio. Overall: 3/5 Overall I expected a better experience. The pizzas were pretty good, however the service here continues to be lackluster making me hesitant to come back. I do not want to come back and be seated at an uncomfortable table again. If I do come back it'll be for take out so I don't have to deal with the horrible service. My first time here the pizzas were good and I thought the bad service mentioned by other Yelpers were isolated incidents. Now I completely understand. We had our puppies with us and the staff was so friendly and brought them water bowls. The area is a real fun and hopping place. The patio seating was well done and the heaters kept us warm. I'm a sucker for pop-ups from Brooklyn, so when Brooklyn brings us their pizza I have to check it out. It astounds me that this place was not insanely crowded. It is only available to Angelenos unto Valentine's Day and there was no line today on Sunday, 1/29 to order a pizza. I walked right up and ordered a "Bee Sting" which was a pizza topped with tomatoes, chili flakes/oil, basil, mozzarella, spicy sopressetta, and honey. Spicy sweet deliciousness. The pizzas are baked in a stone oven that is mobile and on wheels. The crust has some char and has its own texture; not exactly as toothsome as your typical NYC slice and not crispy like a Neapolitan or 800oF baked pizza. The dough and toppings all come together handsomely. The pizzas are roughly individual and are cut into four slices. I've seen at least one reviewer talk about price. Pizzas range from $12-$16. The wines are as expensive to more expensive than the pizza but the glass I had the Frank Cornelissen "Contadino" was a standout italian red and provided an unexpected experience I thought was worth the price I paid for the glass. However, to keep the price of the meal down you're probably better off ordering a Budweiser. We split one pizza between two people, and then ordered a second pizza, this time we went with the Cheesus Christ which was a white pizza with mozzarella, taleggio, parmigiano, black pepper, and cream. The pop up outdoor pizza space has many wooden picnic bench & table sets as well as games to entertain kids including giant connect four and corn hole. Wife and I had read a great write-up about this place and were excited to try it. We were nearly dissuaded the middling overall rating on here though, but we love pizza so we forged on and are certainly glad we did! Neither of us have been to the NYC location, so I cannot speak to how this stacks up compared to the original, but I can say the pizza here is very good. We got the Famous Original, Margherita with garlic added an order of their bread. The pizzas were great, with the famous original having a great slight heat to it. The bread was amazing and really showcases their amazing dough. The service was laid back but attentive and welcoming without being overbearing and the atmosphere was nice, tucked in the Platform in Culver City it made for a nice relaxing, dog-friendly meal. One of my favorite pizzas in NY, and I'm glad to see it here. The menu is limited compared to NY, but they have my favorite bee sting pizza, so that's all I really need. Note this is Neapolitan style pizza with a thin crust, so it doesn't travel as well and stay warm or crispy for delivery, but you can easily pop it back in the oven to reheat. read more

I visited Roberta's for a nice celebratory dinner. I'd been wanting to give it a try since it opened since I've heard great things about the Roberta's in New York! The Bee Sting Pizza was amazing, the honey with the spiciness was great, although I did have to add my own chili oil/chili flakes to give it an extra kick. If you decide to only order one pizza, I would make sure this one is it! I would order one pizza per person if you're only ordering pizza though, just to make sure there's plenty to go around. The ambience of the restaurant is cute, good for a nice dinner with friends or even a date. It's located in the Platform, so there are shops to browse around before/after and dessert (ice cream, boba) for after (and let's be honest, being able to get ice cream at Van Leeuwen's after is a BIG selling point). I came around 6pm and was able to get seated at the bar quickly -- I was told it would have been a 15-20 min wait for a table. The service was fine at the bar, and our food came out quickly. There's an outdoor seating area as well. Overall, I'd give this a 3.5 stars -- a solid dinner choice, if I'm craving pizza locally in Culver City, but not necessarily a restaurant I feel like I have to come back to for more. read more

Cool little pizza shop underneath the metro tracks in Culver City. It's a pop up shop so be sure to stop by before they move on to their permanent location. Very trendy and a real must-see due to their decor and location. It's outdoors so it gets really muddy in certain areas. Do not wear white sneakers or flip flops or you'll regret it. Wait can be quite long since this place is really popular but you can watch them make the pizzas in their open air kitchen. Plenty of seating so the wait wasn't really a big issue. Ordered the Axl Rosenberg and it was very delicious. It came with double garlic, jalapeños, and pork salami. Salami came out crispy but quite on the oily side. Crust was thin and super crunchy but was badly burned on one of the slices. All in all it was a cool experience and would most likely bring friends here. read more

I've been here twice now - the first time slightly tipsy from not only day drinking but also from pregaming with wine around the corner waiting for our table to be ready. Start with the stracciatella, thank me later. Unpopular opinion here - I wasn't a huge fan of the bee sting. Maybe because the sweet and savory mix was a little too sweet for me. But everything else - the famous OG, the white guy, and I can't even remember the last one we're amazing. I decided to write the review after the second time I went when I was sober to make sure the first time wasn't a fluke. Plus I had to bring my boyfriend and see if he agreed that this was the best pizza to ever touch his tastebuds. I couldn't believe he said it wasn't. Apparently his top two pizza places are in Costa Rica. So I demanded he prove it to me. I'll keep y'all posted. The second time I got the famous OG again and the nun on the run (the menu changes up from time to time so this wasn't on the menu last time). The nun on the run had brussel sprouts on it. Was a Roberta's fan when they originated in Bushwick, before it was gentrified and it still had gangs and broke artists, loved it then, and loved going to its new location here in LA! The manager Audrey recommended an amazing Mezcal cocktail as well as the beef carpaccio, which was so tasty! The little gem salad hit the spot ,as well as the BeeSting Pizza. As one might expect in LA, the food just seemed overpriced for what you get. Maybe it's because we didn't order the pizza, which seems to be most popular, but my friend and I would not recommend coming here for the brunch items. The menu changes, but we got the soufflé pancakes and the patty melt. They were good, but the portions were small and didn't stand out to be worth the ~$40 bill. THE BEE STING PIZZA!! I have dined in and gotten take out orders of the pizza so many times now and every time it just seems to taste even better. All my friends and I pretty much all just order the same pizza but one per person because that is how much we like it. It is really the perfect blend of savory, sweet and tiniest kick of spice from the oil. The cheese pretty much melts in your mouth and the crust (I'm not even a crust person normally) is crispy and chewy, so that more than you ask about a single pizza. Roberta's is a place that kinda requires you to get on its wavelength to really "get it." Their process is definitely different, but there's a method to madness. Yes, you wait in line ahead of time and order at a counter, but their wood-fired oven has limited space and they opt to front load your wait so your pizza is served promptly after leaving that oven. Yes, it's more expensive than chain or neighborhood pizzerias, but the focus on ingredients and process is obsessive. A 24-hour ferment of the dough means that supplies are limited; locally-sourced, top-quality meats, housemade and locally-sourced cheese, and fresh local produce all cost money; pizzaiolos who maintain the flame in a wood-fired oven and cook each pizza perfectly demand fair wages. Look, I think about pizza way too much. I could keep going, but I'll just say that Roberta's makes an amazing pie that I love. If you like the idea of a wood-fired Neapolitan pie, but don't love slurping a hot cup of cheese/sauce soup with your pizza, you should give Roberta's a shot. If fresh cheese and ingredients in great balance are things you care about, you should give Roberta's a shot. If perfect leoparding and cell structure are things you notice (and God help you if that's the case), you should give Roberta's a shot. If you're aware that DeSano, Jon & Vinny's, Sotto, Ronan, Superfine, et al all charge similar prices for pizza, you should give Roberta's a shot. Roberta's might seem insane to you. Super rude hosts this weekend while trying to get a table to a half empty restaurant. We mentioned our party would only be there for 30 min only since they mentioned a reservation coming in the near future. They said no and when we came back 45 min later no one new was seated! Also, tried to buy a shirt and bartender said she couldn't help and waiter/manager didn't seem to want to help. Such a rude place. read more
