Upon a fellow yelper's recommendation we made reservations at Roberto's for dinner before the Botanical Gardens Orchid Show. We were able to score a parking spot right out front which make the night easier and smoother. We had reservations and were greeted right away by a hostess. She pushed the coat check on us and we obliged. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice and cozy. The decor is inviting, tables comfortable, and the place is just right, not too small, not too large. Our servers were punctual and accommodating. Plates were cleared consistently between courses as well as silverware, replaced with fresh pieces. We ordered the burrata and beets and the antipasti platters for appetizers. For dinner two of us had chicken with cherry peppers, one had a skirt steak, and another had a chicken on the bone special. Overall dinner was great. Pricey, but great. So would I go again? Probably for a nice occasion but certainly not weekly at this price point. read more

My dad's rabbit was so tough he couldn't chew it. i tried it, it was unacceptable. He didn't even feed it to the dogs when we got home. . it should have been sent back BUT, that would have ruined dinner for everyone with dad sitting there watching everyone eat. Pastas were homemade but were prepared too salty. Hostess and waiters didn't seem genuine and our table was not paid much attention to during our dining experience. We still got a big bill. Roberto's used to be our go-to occasion restaurant, however, after this past weekend we'll probably never go again. First of all, our table was not ready when we got there and our reservation was for 5:45pm so that's a little ridiculous. Second, they shoved our 8 person table into a corner up against a wall; getting out to go to the bathroom was practically impossible (couldn't even pull our chairs out the full way) let alone talking to the other people in our party. We also had to become an assembly line because the waiters couldn't reach those at the farther end of the table - such a dining "experience". The waiter spouted off the specials so fast it was as if he didn't want us to know what they were and he clearly wanted to let it be known he was in a rush. We asked him to repeat a couple of them and he had an attitude about it. When we ordered, we explained one our diners had a dairy allergy. We checked and double checked with him that the dish she wanted could be done dairy free and he said yes. We waited about 2 hours (not exaggerating) for our food and when it finally came out he put her pasta down and it clearly had cheese it in. Instead of apologizing, he said it was dairy free, when she pointed to the cheese in the dish he said, "that's Ricotta." For the record, Ricotta IS DAIRY. It took about 30 minutes more for the re-worked dairy-free pasta to come out (everyone else was done eating long before this). So if you have allergies beware. Another diner in our party nearly broke a tooth on a shard of broken china (which was confirmed by the waiter after she handed him the shard). The waiter apologized & acted as though he would comp the dish but then didn't. We didn't fight it as we were desperate to get out of there. If this is how you treat a $550+ (pre tax) party, how do you treat everyone else? Not to mention the food was so-so. We don't know where Roberto is but it seems like he should keep a more closeful watch over his namesake restaurant. Zero Otto Nove is so much better. read more

We were looking forward to a nice dinner at Roberto's which came highly recommended by my brother in law. While the food was ok, fresh and nicely served, the flavors were nothing special. I would say the Home made pasta was very good. Our waiter was really nice and tried to accommodate our needs. Our big complaint was an issue with the manager. The night we were there was extremely cold. As it turned out, the heat had not been working since the night before which they neglected to tell us on arrival but rather said it was comfortable in the back of the restaurant. We ended up eating with our jackets on and my elderly mother needed to wear gloves. The manager offered to compensate with dessert and coffee for all f us and showed up with 2 desserts and no coffee for 8. It was terrible customer service. Sadly, our experience last night was disappointing. The place was cold inside. Our waiter was absent most of the time- had to flag him down to order. Plates not cleared after dinner. No offer of dessert and coffee. Had to ask another waiter for the check. Food was ok- Bolognese was ordinary. Special pasta dish also a let down. Staff rushing around. But attentiveness to customers was missing. I've eaten here before and this was below the standard they set a in the past. This restaurant is outstanding. The service, ambiance, and food were great. My tin-foil pasta was phenomenal. Apparently, it's a special that they change every week and mine was better than the week before according to the waiter. They have a lot of specials here. The lamb and ravioli was pretty good too. We had the caprese and mussel/clam medley as appetizers which were great! Would definitely come back and recommend to anyone! we went here this past wknd for a birthday dinner with a total of 6 ppl. The bill was over $400, and about 6 mins after we paid the bill, the waiter asked us if we could leave bc they had ppl waiting. How convenient that he waited for his tip to be allocated before making the VERY RUDE request. A couple of friends and I decided to check this place out on Saturday night as it had been highly recommended. We expected a bit of a wait with it being a Saturday and not being able to make reservations, however even though there was plenty of people waiting when we first got to the restaurant we were greeted straight away and seated within 5 minutes or so. We shared an Italian sausage starter, with white beans and I think a balsamic vinager, which I may not have necessarily chosen if we weren't sharing, but it was delicious! We then ordered a few pasta dishes to share, including a ravioli special of goats cheese and mushroom - which was simply amazing! And also the pasta with zucchini and parmesan - which the pasta, due to the type could be a little difficult to pick up, but was great none the less. I was too full to order a desert but my friends shared the tirimisu which looked very appetising and which they said was light and tastey. The waiters were super friendly, could not do enough for us and were quite funny. Not scared to engage in some light conversation. The atmosphere of the restaurant was good too. Although not the cheapest / most expensive restaurant, it was definitely worth what you pay. We enjoyed the dinner so much we were more than happy to pay a minimum of 20% tip - which is more than can be said for some restaurants in NY. I will definitely be going back! :) read more

What? The food? I can't hear you, you asked about the food? It's hard to enjoy dinner when it is stupid loud. Wasn't just 1 loud table next to us, it was the entire place. On a Wednesday night. Even the 20-somethings at the table were quiet because they couldn't hear each other. The food was very good. 7 different entrees, everyone liked their stuff. Portion size was reasonable. Prices were too high despite the good food compared to some other places around the neighborhood. Service was not great: no mention of specials. Never checked in on us. Taking a plate before 1 person done and twice reaching for a plate as someone was putting down the fork from a final bite. And back to the noise. No one wanted coffee or dessert because no one could hear each other and everyone was sitting awkwardly and not talking. This is the worst review I've ever given for a place with good food. We had the squid app and the roasted tomato app along with a plate of homemade ravioli with fig stuffing. The veal special and bronzini were delectable. Spent years going to this eatery when our daughter was attending Fordham University nearby. Went back this past Tuesday night, and again, was blown away by the food. Started with an antipasto platter with eggplant on the side, then went for their Dover sole served in a lemon wine sauce over broccoli rabe and roasted potatoes. Arrived on time for our reservations and most tables were empty. The hostess proceeded to take us downstairs to what seemed like a basement to dine. I told her we would like to see on the main level to which she replied they are all reserved. Long story short as I had a reservation she could not argue with me and let us sit on the main level. The service was decent except for the waiter trying 2x to take a plate away that was not finished. The food was very good we had the artichoke special for an appetizer and a house salad both delicious. My husband had the Bronzino which was two rather small pieces. I had the pasta with seafood which was amazing. The prices however were quite high. The artichoke appetizer I ordered was $20. Total bill $175.00 (no desert 2 drinks). All in all the food was good but totally not worth the price tag. read more

I've known about Roberto's for years, and I've even been to both locations of Trattoria Zero Otto Nove, but I've never been to Roberto Paciullo's namesake until now. It's right off the drag of Arthur Ave around the corner, and the building is done up to look like it was shipped over from Italy. Since opening in 1989 (I believe?), Roberto has grown from a tiny little place on Arthur Ave to this. Zagat ratings for being among the best Italian in the city and numerous other accolades have followed. The cuisine Roberto's does is that of his native Salerno, but at a very high level as you could expect. His father was a chef as well, so this is in his blood. The inside of the place is dark and intimate, with any gaudy decor. The waitstaff is very professional for this area, but given the price point they have to be. My Albanian waiter did a good job as he was efficient and knowledgeable, even if he was also very droll. The specials were recited from memory as well as written on a chalkboard on the side of the room, clearly visible. I had a long day/week/month, so I treated myself to this and was not disappointed. For my appetizer I got a caprese salad. The mozzarella, sourced from around the corner at Casa dell Mozzarella, argubly the best place for fior di latte in the city, was superb as you could expect. The tomatoes as well were bright and fresh. I was a bit disappointed by the roasted red peppers and marinated mushrooms though, as the peppers lacked a bit of flavor and the mushrooms were very cold as they'd been refrigerated. The dish as a whole--dressed with some fresh basil, a few kinds of olives, olive oil and balsamic vinegar-- was still great though, and presented beautifully. For my entree I had a special with thick, homemade tubes of pasta, scallops, clams, chickpeas and braised fennel. I am a massive lover of chickpeas, so they had me at that. This was a great, unique dish! The scallops and clams--also sourced from around the corner at Randazzo's Seafood market--were exceedingly fresh and cooked properly. The pasta was cooked properly and the chickpeas created a creamy foundation for what became the sauce. What I thought was to be the X-factor of the dish--the braised fennel--was the odd man left out somehow. It was in the background in a subtle way, but I expected it to be much more assertive. Aside from this one fault, I loved this dish and would probably order it again. Little imperfections aside, it's easy to see why Roberto's is ranked among the city's finest Italian restaurants and that Roberto Paciullo has become as successful as he has. I prefer Trattoria Zero Otto Nove by a nose, unless I'm looking for something unique; if so, I'd reccomend coming here as the specials are much more inventive, as is the whole menu. The only issue I have is the price if you go all out, but that is what it is. Regardless, I would gladly come back here anytime so long as I'm not buying, and otherwise I'll come when I can! read more

Underwhelmed is all I can say. I had the parpadelle special and the noodles came out stuck to one another. That meant in a group of three noodles the middle one tasty doughy and undercooked. The wild boar stew sauce was pretty good with a little salt and pepper. (if you thinking I should've complained and given them a chance to prepare the meal right, you're probably correct. I was disappointed and just wanted to escape. The parpadelle was off on a visual inspection -- you could see it stuck together -- if they didn't care enough to look at their food before serving it, I didn't want to spend more time then necessary there.) One of the best Italian restaurants in NYC. It's a hidden gem on Arthur ave in the Bronx. There are so many Italian restaurants on that strip but ignore them all except Roberto's. This is the real deal Italian spot. It seems like the waiters just flew over from Italy days ago! Everything I ate was unreal and the service was awesome. Make sure you have the pasta special that comes wrapped inside aluminum foil! They change it daily but it is always the best pasta choice. It is literally wrapped in foil and they open it up and spill it onto your plate for you to drool over. After that try anything on the menu. It's all amazing. read more

Visiting little italy for the first time, I saw the reviews and decided to have dinner here. The soup choice (chicken spinach & pasta fagoli) was excellent but the main dishes could have been better. I had tubillini pasta with clams and calamari, the bf had italian sasuage pasta and we were both not impressed. the prices are high (even in nyc) for this kind of meal and the server didnt seem to care that neither of us really liked the dishes. i was pretty hungry afterwards even though the bill came to $100 so i was desperate enough to get a subway sandwich shop white choc macadamia cookie and i talked to a local guy....he said "robertos gets alot of reviews but the food isnt worth the price" this guy suggested i go to emilias (or emilios?) restaurant. anyways i guess if i come back to the area, that would be the place I would try. p.s no amex and the downstairs is freezing!! ladies bring a jacket! read more

I finally got to Chef Roberto's other restaurant, Roberto's Restaurant on Crescent Ave in the Bronx today! As most of you know I am a huge fan of his famous Zero Otto Nove restaurant on Arthur Avenue. This venue is a quieter more romantic atmosphere with a beautiful exterior and interior. Not as dramatic as Zero Otto Nove but special in its own way. Of course the staff is top notch, attentive, and very savvy with the menu! We did not want for anything in Armando's and his wait staffs care! Immediately bread, oil and fresh olives were brought to us and drink orders taken. We decided on their house made mozzarella, peppers, mushrooms and tomato appetizer. The mozzarella was wonderful! Very nice texture, flavor and perfectly salted! I decided on their signature dish, "Radiatori In Cartocci" which came in a foil presentation that they split open and served on the plate steaming from the grill! It was a lovely medley of their fresh made radiator pasta, cherry tomatoes, porcini mushrooms, topped with toasted bread crumbs and Parmiginio Reggiano cheese! It was such a large portion I could only eat about a 1/3 of it, but absolutely enjoyed every luscious bite! No worries, I will devour the rest at midnight! Of course my spouse, the Chicken Parmignia conissour, had to sample theirs. He was very impressed by the massive portion also and thoroughly enjoyed the tender chicken with a robust sauce and mounds of fresh delicious mozzarella cheese. "ChickenparmaJohn" approved! We ended with a made to order "Cannoli alla Roberto" which was very different from any Cannoli we've had. It came as two flat cannoli crusts with the rich, decadent cream in between, atop and on the sides with pistachio nuts and powdered sugar sprinkled about. Roberto's is one of my favorite restaurants on Arthur Ave. the other being Zero Otto Nove which is coincidentally owned be the same person, Roberto. This is a beautiful restaurant with a rustic look to it. They have a nice bar and another dining room downstairs in the wine cellar. Everything here is done with love. The service is good depending on who you get, some are more entertaining than others. I almost never go out for Italian food but this restaurant is an exception. Another thing I never do is order pasta but that goes right out the window when I'm at Roberto's. They have an amazing way with pasta dishes, especially when they are cooked in foil. If the waiter says they have a special and in that special are the words pasta and foil you order it and thank me later. They have some classic desserts like tiramisu and cannoli. Nothing too fancy but done from scratch the right way. This restaurant is one of my favorites and after taking a group of six friends along with my fiancée and I they all enjoyed it as much as I do. My husband took me here for our wedding anniversary prior to going out for the evening. Place wasn't crowded ambiance was snug. We sat with another couple but the tables were separated slightly. Our waiter was pleasant and accommodating along with attentive. The food was spectacular and flavorful. Pasta was cooked right and the steak was seasoned to perfection. All it takes are a few boisterous drunks to prohibit you from even hearing yourself. If the food was exceptional, who'd care about all that. But it was wholly ordinary for the neighborhood. The service was cold and rushed. Zero Otto Nove, from the same operation is a great place I've been to many times and will return to for many more.
