If you are Mexican like me you are going to love it because it's the real shit ! Mexican real , I'm from Tijuana Mexico and I live in San Diego, I can't find good Mexican anywhere in cali but here is the best , and the drinks omg so strong and good like real Mexican , the enchiladas de pollo asado omg ! Food was great. We had the combo plate with chile relleno and enchilada, tamale and chicken tacos and chimichanga. We all enjoyed the food. Unfortunately our service was very poor. Our waitress, didn't check on us, didn't give us napkins or even comeback to see if we wanted or needed anything. Too bad because the location and food were great. This place gets jam-packed during the after hours of Mammoth Ski Resort. We came here approximately 5 pm, and lines were forming on the first and second floor, so I decided to scout the bar. The bar was also busy. There was one stool available, and luckily, the patron next to me asked for the check and immediately paid and left. What timing for us! Happy Hour daily from 4 to 6 pm - I ordered the house margarita. I wasn't much in the mood to be drinking, so I didn't get to finish it. Flavor was satisfactory, and I was able to taste the alcohol. In the Happy Hour menu, I noticed that tacos were $3 each. So I asked the bartender to get me two tacos and asked to add rice and beans on the side. The food was tasty. I came to Roberto's because I was craving Mexican food. Unfortunately, the bill did not reflect what my total should be. I was charged $15 because the dish that I ordered was considered an entree meal from their regular menu. So I paid $6 for two tacos and $9 for rice and beans... I should have said something, but I didn't, which I regret now thinking about it. Their salsa that comes with the chip was spicy which was to my liking. This place easily could be a four-star restaurant, but I reduced a star for the unexplainable pricing for my meal. read more

Been here twice, the food is very average so I would give it 3 stars. Salsa is delicious and it's packed with people and has a fun vibe, with a bar upstairs and TVs with sports on. But the food was not very flavorful. I had a pollo asada burrito, and on my second visit a pollo asada enchilada with mole sauce- the mole was probably the worst mole I've ever had, with no flavor, not sweet at all, very bland- but mole is also a Friday special. My husband had cheese enchiladas and the cheese inside was not melted! Which I've never seen before. Overall food very average, we are also from LA/San Diego so are spoiled with amazing Mexican food where we live. Service was great though! So maybe if you're craving Mexican I would go, but personally I'd rather try other restaurants in mammoth. read more

Watch out for the bartenders at the bar and make sure to count your change if you're paying cash, these mf seem like they like to steal when it's busy since they cheated my mother and I when we separately ordered at the bar. Our go to dining whenever we're in Mammoth Lakes. Service is great, food is amazing! I always get their Duck Burritos, the duck meat is crispy and it goes amazingly with the beans and rice. Their chips and salsa are also amazing. We also ordered the carne asada plate, it comes with the steak, rice, beans, and corn tortilla. Everything tasted amazing, and will def. continue to go back! The server was very nice, and friendly. That is the good news. I don't enjoy giving negative reviews but Roberto's needs to improve. 1- 2 of us ordered Tropical Margaritas that tasted like a drink that has been left unattended for a while and the ice has watered down any flavor the drink may have had. They're generally pretty good at seating you. During peak season you might wanna get there a little earlier. I specifically like their duck burrito and am partial to it. It's surprising to find such good duck out of LA. read more

On a cold night in mammoth, there is nothing better than a warm burrito from Roberto's. I personally had the Machaca Con Huevos with Flour tortillas. After a day on the mountain, this really hit home. I'll definitely be back. read more

As a Los Angeles native, I've not had Mexican food quite this delicious and authentic in a long while. And to think such an amazing restaurant is out here in Mammoth Lakes of all places? I'm delightedly surprised! The COVID restrictions made the atmosphere a bit difficult to enjoy, but where they lacked in quick and convenient seating, they made up for with their mouthwatering food! Also, it's not often you see Mezcal listed as a drink option- and damn good Mezcal at that! Will definitely be returning and recommending to all who plan to visit. read more

Our expectations for Mexican food were astronomically high when we wandered into Roberto's Mexican Cafe, and we were also starving from a long hike earlier that day. We stumbled on our exhausted legs around 5ish and were seated immediately in a cozy booth in the center of a lively and crowded room, and from there waited for our Mexican feast. Our waitress was brisk but super on top of everything, including serving us complimentary chips and salsa the second we sat down, and our food came out in what seemed to be just minutes after ordering. I ordered Larry's Salad, a sorta-healthyish taco salad with a massive amount of incredibly tasty spicy chicken (outstanding flavor and preparation) on a huge bed of lettuce, with other taco salad toppings as well. My husband had a combination platter - chicken enchilada, chile relleno, and cheese tamale (again, we were extremely ravenous). Everything was savory, perfectly cheesy, and wonderfully filling; we left stuffed with tons of food left over for the next day. The only downside was that the guacamole side we ordered was quite weak and flavorless. We also had some, um, mild digestive issues for a few days after - not sure if this was due to the food itself or just the fact that we rarely eat that much heavy food in one sitting. OH MY GOODNESS. The service was great. Friendly and fast. The food was incredible! Even the side dishes. I've never had better Mexican rice. The salsa they bring to the table had complex flavor. They must roast some of the vegetables, way better than the quick slice and dice you normally expect. The pork tamale made me want to cry. Loved it. Service was a little slow because they were totally slammed but the bartender gets a pass. Just go straight upstairs to the bar (skip the dining room) and order the Cadillac and start grazing on the chips and salsa. The food is better than most Mexican food in Mammoth lakes. The problem was the service after something was wrong with a drink. I never send back drinks, but this one was in drinkable. They almost were scolding in response, which was weird. So it lowered the score for me. They also kept coming back and commenting about it. read more

Came here because it was one of the only restaurants that stayed open a bit longer. We found a table in the upstairs area and while I was craving tacos, I also had to learn similar to another yelped that they don't sell tacos a La carte and only with rice and beans which I wasn't what I was looking for. Ended up getting the carne asada burrito which was filled with beans and carne asada. It's also more of a wet than plain burrito (covered with melted cheese and salsa). I think this place is great! The food is plentiful and good. They have great Salsa, and the drinks are tasty as well. Be prepared to walk out satisfied and full. Nothing tricked up or fancy here. Just good stick to your ribs mexican food. It reminds me more of TexMex than the regular mexican food you get in California. Which is a nice treat. read more

We had shrimp enchiladas and some enchilada rancheros. Super, super cheesy. This is pretty standard Americanized Mexican fare. I love that stuff, so I was very happy. This is second time I've visited Roberto's Cafe in the last year or so. They do not have reservations and the dining room is relatively small, so prepare for a wait at busy hours. Worth the wait?? I believe so. The margaritas are delicious according to my girlfriend and seemed to be trending in the dining room. The carne asada burrito is a favorite for good reason. It is a rather large burrito served "wet", containing a good portion of savory beef. The salsa served with chips had a delightful kick, since I love spice. It's a poppin joint so the environment is fun and lively. The service was pretty good for how busy they were. Overall a good experience and I will happily return on my next Mammoth trip. read more

Yelp? After a terrific day on the slopes on Mammoth Mtn, my family was craving some Mexican food. #1 on Yelp was Roberto's Café - boy did YELPERS get it WRONG! The margarita was good, but how can you go wrong with anything containing tequila. Service was good; everyone was friendly and provided thick chips, spicy red salsa and iced water quickly. Food, however, was bad. Guacamole had a garlic aftertaste that I can't get out of my mouth. The carnitas was very oily & heavy and the carne asada had a weird texture. Rice & refried beans were average. In summary, 1 star for the fast & friendly service. Should've gone with the Thrillest recommendation down the street. read more

Well, where do I start? The hostess was very friendly and communicative, the waitress gave us excellent service (that's why I'm giving this place two stars), and the ambiance was perfect! The food??? It had to have been one of the worst three Mexican restaurants I've ever had in my life! The lobster burrito might as well have been called a bean burrito. Loaded with beans!!!! The lobster inside shoulda been called shredded burnt imitation-lobster (cuz I definitely couldn't taste it). The rice inside was also burnt. But the worst thing was the sauce on top. It was soooooooo salty. And loaded with enough cheese for an army. It isn't a cheap burrito, it was $20. I don't expect a lobster tail inside but I do expect to be able to taste it a little. My burrito wasn't an isolated case. My wife's enchiladas suizas were also terrible. Enough sodium to soak up all your body's fluids. Also with enough cheese for the Roman army. The staff is always super friendly and helpful, the portions are INSANE and you definitely get your moneys worth, and the food is delicious and the best Mexican food in Mammoth. Even when they have been busy, we always get our food super fast and the food is always consistent. This is a very popular establishment. Didn't try any of their alcoholic drinks, but the bar area upstairs was slammed. We dined on a Saturday night, it was a given that it would be busy. Put our names on the wait list downstairs, but out of curiosity we walked upstairs to see what it was all about. The waitress told us that we could find a table much faster up there. While waiting and listening to the extreme loud sounds of people talking, my husband and I decided to go back downstairs where it was quieter. You have your pick of long wait and quiet, or shorter wait with super loud people talking? The food is portioned for the Hulk. I literally got 2 meals out of my leftovers. All I ordered was a veggie burrito. Food was okay, not my most favorite mexican food, but it was nice going out to eat. I'd consider this more bland friendly Mexican food.
