This is a very popular establishment. Didn't try any of their alcoholic drinks, but the bar area upstairs was slammed. We dined on a Saturday night, it was a given that it would be busy. Put our names on the wait list downstairs, but out of curiosity we walked upstairs to see what it was all about. The waitress told us that we could find a table much faster up there. While waiting and listening to the extreme loud sounds of people talking, my husband and I decided to go back downstairs where it was quieter. You have your pick of long wait and quiet, or shorter wait with super loud people talking? The food is portioned for the Hulk. I literally got 2 meals out of my leftovers. All I ordered was a veggie burrito. Food was okay, not my most favorite mexican food, but it was nice going out to eat. I'd consider this more bland friendly Mexican food. Love Roberto's! Usually sit upstairs at the bar area. They don't take reservations and are super busy on the weekends so expect to wait. Once you sit down however the food comes out fast and they even have water and chips & salsa already waiting for you at the table. Huge portions and lots of options on the menu. The sweet satisfaction of generous portions from Roberto's after a day of skiing!! We had a big party of 8 on new year's day and were able to swoop on a few bar seats upstairs while we waited. Here, we ordered a couple spicy margaritas and they gave the perfect amount of heat (not to mention a nice warming buzz). We also ordered some carne asada nachos to hold us over - this alone could be a meal for 3! Wonderfully layered toppings made every bite one to be desired! For dinner, I ordered the enchiladas suisas with a cup of albondigas soup to start. The albondigas was filled to the brim with yummy veggies and well seasoned meatballs. By the time my enchiladas came out, I could only enjoy a couple bites because I was STUFFED. The salty, tangy enchiladas were amazing and the rice and beans act as their ideal sidekick. I'm Mexican so I know the food of my people. This place is legit. The hot salsa is hot and it's real salsa. Other restaurants make watered down marinera sauce and call it salsa. We ordered tacos, beans and rice for 6 guys. The food was fresh. You can tell by the condition of the lettuce. Good food has vibrant colors. Everyone was floored by the taste and quality of the food. Sometimes I seriously believe my wife might be part hispanic. She can eat Mexican food all the time. But you would never know that by looking at her. But I guess I can't say too much because I could eat Italian each and every day! At least I have a fair amount of Italian heritage. Well, on this trip we ate pizza last night so tonight was our turn for Mexican. My Alma mater, Penn State was playing at 4:30 and the Cantina has several TV's. We came up the stairs and my wife and I were talking about the upcoming game and the server immediately said "What game are you looking for, I will find it". Wow, pretty cool! We must also say, at the time, there was only one other person in the Cantina so that definitely helped! She provided us with the full menu along with a small happy hour menu and brought us chips and salsa. We ordered drinks while we perused the menu. I have to say as an IPA lover it was great to see a Mexican restaurant offer an IPA on tap! I opted for a couple items off the happy hour menu while my wife choose a carne asada burrito which the menu stated was a locals favorite. We enjoyed the beginning of the game and our food arrived very quickly. The food was delicious and we enjoyed it. Unbelievably generous portions!!! We ordered takeout because we had been out on the road all day. We were greeted quickly. Our order was taken quickly and it was ready quickly. Ordered the menudo and it tasted like flavored water. They only gave onions and a side of oregano with it... no limes or anything. I was pretty sad as this was my first "meal" in mammoth. Boyfriend got the fish burrito that was really good so I'm not going to give completely one start. But yeah, the menudo was $8-9 for a small bowl with not that much tripe & extremely bland. Solid menu and the food was out quick! Maybe a bit too quick because they totally screwed up our order. Man this place was amazing! When we went a couple years back during our short trip to Mammoth Lakes, we decided to check out this place in town which was getting a ton of hype. The first day we tried to get to-go, they were incredibly packed with people. They were so busy that our order couldn't be taken over the phone. However, the next day we went, we tried again, and although the wait was long, it was absolutely worth it! The portion sizes for this place are insane. The plates can easily feed up to 2-3 people, and the prices are incredibly reasonable as a result. The food is absolutely jam-packed with flavor, and the meat is incredibly juicy and cooked to perfection. Definitely will try this place again if we do ever revisit Mammoth Lakes in the future. THE FAT: Great happy hour! 5 different food items $5 and under. We got the cheese quesadilla - huge, the chorizo potato skins and bean and cheese nachos to start. Big portions and they were very tasty. Washed them down with $2.50 drafts and $3.75 Margs. Pretty stuffed so split a Carnitas Burrito. Was filled with Carnitas and beans, no rice filler, served with guac and sour cream. THE TIP: Restaurant fills really quickly by 5 for HH. If you are looking for a place where your burrito is loaded with meat and not rice. This is the place for you. I ordered one burrito and it was so big, it fed two of us. I had the grilled shrimp and steak wet burrito. It was great in flavor and the burrito was packed with shrimp and steak. Not with the usual fillers that just make you feel that you are stuffed. Lol. All of their salsas are made from stratch and full of spice Also if you order chips, ask for their flour tortilla chips. They are extra puffy and crispy. I have never had these before and make this restaurant unique. They also have a delicious and refreshing fresh mango margarita. They use real mango, instead of some generic syrup. I honestly enjoyed my experience at this restaurant and I also love the ambience. The waitress was also very attentive and constantly checking on us. Cute spot with scenic views but the margaritas tasted funny. Too strong and not great flavor. I had the Cadillac. The kiddos has a taco kids meal and the chicken meat was wonky they didn't eat it. We were with 4 small children and two dogs so our party of 10 were taking a chance without a reservation. The host was super nice. Our 20 minute wait was more like 45. So dissapointing! We come here every time we come to Mammoth Lakes. During COVID when indoor seating was not allowed, it was the only time we had an issue and it was with a order to go ...when we got to our room it was a big messy pile! But we thought that was COVID related...maybe higher costs at the time, etc. We were just there 7/29 and ordered a fajita to share. I asked for a set of corn tortillas in addition to the flour ones. Our waitress was not friendly at all. When she came with the fajitas she brought the tortillas, when I unwrapped mine, they were flour when I specifically asked her for corn. I asked her to switch them and she gave me a nasty look. The worst part she actually re- wrapped the ones she took away and served them to someone else! Then she threated me that she should charge me for the corn tortillas! Food was hot when served, but as I was eating I felt like the food was very heavy. I ended up eating mostly the chips since I thought the food was too greasy and I had a strange aftertaste. Well, I guess that it was not only greasy but bad, since both of us have been sick for 2 days. I dont like writing bad reviews but this is not acceptable. read more

ZERO STARS!!! I don't usually like to leave bad reviews but we're vacationing and we just expected more from a tourist town so this is an exception. Very BAD service, unfriendly staff. When I asked for a new fork because mine was dirty (it had dried cheese on it) she just grabbed another fork and slightly tossed it on the table as she walked by-didn't say a word. She never asked if I wanted more water or ever asked how things were. She just didn't speak to us at all. My husband had to call her for a refill of his soda and she still didn't ask me. The food had a weird aftertaste. For instance, the rice tasted lemony but it was just Spanish rice not lime rice. I ordered fajitas and it was just sautéed chopped carne asada with vegetables on a plate. chopped??? The meat was very greasy. We had to call out to her for the check after sitting there for about 30 minutes. She would pass by us with her head turned so no eye contact. The ambience was rushy.
