Came to Roberto's late at night after we checked into a nearby hotel and got a couple tacos to go. The inside is dated and the people were kind inside. Unfortunately the tacos were not great. The beef tacos came in a deep fried shell, but that didn't add any flavor to the taco. The beef wasn't very flavorful either and it was dry as well. I've been sampling menudo (on weekends only) at several different Roberto's Taco shops and the menudo is good but lacks consistency between locations. This particular Roberto's menudo did not have as much flavor as the one on Cactus in Southern Highlands. But it was good, the tortillas were hot, and the service was good. read more

This review is for their Chicken Taco Day on Wednesdays only. My parents were in town and wanted to visit Roberto's, having had Roberto's all the time when they used to live in San Diego. We visited on a Wednesday and as it turns out, they're currently running an awesome deal every Wednesday at $1.59 per chicken taco. We ordered a few to try and grabbed a table while we waited for our order to be called. While waiting, we also helped ourselves to the salsa bar: they had a mild green salsa, a hot red salsa, pickled carrots (my parents' FAVORITE), and pickled red onions. The chicken taco was a steal. Freshly fried, hot and crispy tortilla shell with surprisingly zero grease to it. Absolutely stuffed with shredded chicken, lettuce, and cheese. Does that matter when you need a reliable plate of food and fast, polite service in the dead of night? Not at all. Pros: - vast selection of combo rice plates - meat portions are very generous (way out of proportion vs. the rice) - friendly staff (Efren at the cashier was especially friendly and patient as I figured my way through the giant menu) - fast service coming from the kitchen - parking is easy in the attached parking structure Cons: - some of the food is pre-made too in advance (e.g. menudo came out of a refrigerated bucket and didn't taste fresh - their menu advertises only having it on Sat & Sun, and somehow they had it when I visited (Thu), guacamole (very slurpy version) was brown from oxidation) - students who are not customers & also not wearing masks use this place as a shortcut from the front of the building to the back.
