We were looking for a place to have an early dinner with my Turkish friends who live in Bronx and do not have many Turkish cuisine options. I gave the place a call in advance to see if we would be able to get a table away from the hookah smoke since none of us are smokers and there is a kid in the group. The lady who answered the phone was very helpful and reserved us a table as desired. Once she helped us settle at our table, our waiter showed up to introduce himself and asked if need any assistance with the menu. We ordered our beers right away, they have 5-6 choices of common brands but also full bar menu for wines and liquors. As we were willing to try many things, we ordered 2 mezes, hummus and babaganoush, fried calf's liver and crispy chicken for the kiddo. I had never tried babaganoush with dill added but I should highlight that it is really a nice touch to flavor. Congrats to chefs. Liver cubes were big enough to taste the liver compared to other places where they fry them so much that you barely know that it is. As per our appetizer experience, lastly the chicken was really juicy inside but had a nice crispy coating. It is really a risk to take when ordering Turkish dumplings - Mantı, we double checked with our waiter whose name was Yiğit, to get his opinion and he encouraged us to order it so thanks to him, we made a great choice. The buttery taste, amount of yogurt, meat quality of the stuffing was definitely so good. That dinner deserves a Künefe with Turkish tea to be topped iso we didn't miss the chance to do so and were also very satisfied with Künefe, cheese and pistachio ratio. I live near this place and every time I drive by there is always a crowd of people on the sidewalk waiting to get in. I figured it was time to try it. I came on a late Sunday afternoon, and the place was relatively empty. I was pleasantly surprised. They check your vaccination card and require a mask when walking about the restaurant. We were seated towards the back, near the water, which was a nice view. There were 3 other groups near the back, so the place was quiet. We started with a round of drinks, I had the lychee martini and my guest had a Moscow mule. Both were very tasty. We shared the sampler platter which had hummus, hydari, babaganoush, eggplant, eggplant with sauce, and bread. It was the perfect size appetizer, we got the small. I had the chicken Parmesan with a salad, I don't eat pasta so I had them hold it and substitute the salad. The chicken was a little too over cooked and the sauce was delicious. My guest had the white fish with potato, it was delicious and he took half of it home. We each had a latte after dinner. The price is reasonable and the restaurant clean. I started with the octopus salad and it consists of arugula, thinly sliced red onion, cherry tomatoes, probably some parsley in there, and a savory lemon dressing. The octopus was generous and probably some of the best octopus I've ever had. I don't know how they did it but it was so tender and still fully cooked. Since they were out of the flounder I opted for the bronzino and i had a choice between the whole fish or filets and I got the filets. My 2 bronzino filets were accompanied by salad with a similar lemon dressing and a baked potato. The potato came out plain but that's fine with me. Since the octopus salad was so generous I was able to take home one of the 2 filets and half of the baked potato. The cocktail menu is so fun you will find your drink there guarantee. There's indoor and outdoor seating but it truly feels like the entire restaurant is outdoors with a gorgeous view. It's too bad because the location is great during the warm months but please keep reading because what the management of this restaurant is doing is cheating their patrons and if you have eaten here you may not even be aware. First: we were asked if we wanted water. I wasn't aware we had to request a glass of water. Usually it's brought to your table. You may be asked if you would like bottled or sparkling instead of rasp water, but apparently this restaurant "doesn't have tap water." (I believe according to the health department a restaurant does indeed have to have properly running water. Whatever.) So the server brought us a bottle of Poland Spring water which I then noticed was on all the tables. Okay, it's their dollar. Not so much. They add a SIX DOLLAR charge to the check. So you can only have water if you are "willing" to pay for it. Second: 18% gratuity is automatically added to the check. (We were only 2 people.) Now I've noticed this more and more lately since Covid. I would have left at least that anyway but I don't agree with not giving people a choice in how much they would like to tip. I probably would have left more if it wasn't automatically added, but what happened next was even worse. Third: we gave our card for the bill and when it came back for us to sign, the suggested tips were at the bottom. In my life, I have never seen this and to add insult to injury, they still put suggested tips on the bottom. This is absurd. I understand restaurants have had a difficult time. This particular restaurant has a lot of open and outdoor space which made them able to stay open during quarantine. They also did quite a bit of delivery so they weren't as bad as other restaurants who are much more gracious and professional. Needless to say I will. It be returning. read more

I was in Rocca Cafe on last Saturday for my friends Birthday Party. We asked a table on the part near the water witch is more quiet than near music station. There was few free tables over there. Hostess told us that the area near water will be close at 7:30 PM and we can not be there more than 2 Hours. So we accepted the table she gave to us. We where so surprised when at 7:30 PM no one left that area, no one came to the customers who were seating there and ask them to leave because they are closing this part. We left at 9:00 PM and people were seating there. This is not right. We are the same customers as others, we paid a lot of money there (9 people). Food was Ok, but not up to the price they charge. Waiter also did not care too much. Needed to be called few times, brought wrong desert, but when we said it to him, he gave us what we ordered for free. I will not recommend this place if you don't want to be disappointed. There are plenty good restaurant with nice people that will treat you with dignity. Avoid this place. My buddy took me here because I appreciate good food, and I really like Turkish cuisine. Rocca is a large restaurant on the water with a nice upscale atmosphere. We started out having a few drinks, I chose Raki which was excellent, while I perused the menu. Rocca's menu was a mix of mediterranean and Turkish food choices, with a dabble of NY in there. I had the lamb chops (Kuzu pirzola) , it came with rice and a salad. I have to say the meat melted in my mouth it was so tender, cooked perfectly. The rice was Turkish style (not sticky rice) again delicious, and everything paired with the salad, made me feel like I was at a restaurant on the Bosporus, if just for a minute. The staff was attentive, and my meal partner ordered a hookah, he was also happy. Rocca has great food, great staff, and menu choices for everyone. Their food gets two thumbs up from myself and my Turkish boss! My boss found out that her favorite Turkish food place, Mediterranean Kebab House, in Garden City had opened a new location in Brooklyn. We decided to order food from here for our next work function. The catering menu was not available online but after speaking to the hostess in Turkish, the menu was faxed over to us. It was a full spread that was not modifiable but promised to be enough for the number of people you requested. Delivery charge was waived due to the proximity to the job. Upon arrival, it was evident that there was going to more than enough food for everyone. There were about 4 cold meze options which included grape leaves and diced tomato salad. There was also a warm stuffed grape leave option called dolma which was pretty tasty. There was a bunch of hummus, yogurt sauce, pita bread and fresh baked bread provided as well as meat options. There were approximately 4 half pans of well seasoned meats that ranged from lamb kebab to chicken Adana. They was even some liver snuck in there that people were raving about. Dessert options included baklava that was solid. My boss enjoyed it but was disappointed that there was no lamachun (Turkish style "pizza"). Seating is available in three areas, providing options for picky guests. Outdoors, right when you come in, before entering the café's indoor seating, with a view on the road and Emmons Ave. Indoors. Or on a porch with a nice view of docked boats and water. Of course, the last option is the reason why most people come to this café. A word of caution--if you're sitting on the porch by the water, your food will get cold quickly. The wind intensity changes multiple times throughout the day, so be prepared that it will affect the temperature and enjoyment levels of your food. Visited on several occasions, and was always fortunate to have been sat straight away. Service is courteous and quick. The waiters don't rush you to leave the second you're done with your meal, which is great. When a guest celebrates a birthday, the staff surprises him/her with a slice of cake with a candle, clapping and cheering while a happy birthday tune is playing in the background. A sweet touch of attention to make guests feel special on their special day. Was pleasantly surprised with live music entertainment on a Wednesday night. A saxophonist was doing a solid job of creating romantic atmosphere with classic tunes for everyone who sat on the porch by the water. Menu has extensive options of simple, filling food at reasonable prices. Hookah menu is also available. Complementary bread is freshly baked and is brought out warm. Salads are always fresh and hearty here, with Shepherd salad ($10.85 for small, $13.85 for large) being the customer favorite. A fail proof option for picky eaters or anyone who can't make up their mind. Phyllo Rolls (or Sigara Boregi by their proper name) ($8.95) were too salty but delicious nonetheless. Five crispy phyllo dough cigars with melted cheese and parsley inside were served piping hot--do give them a try! Seafood Linguini ($22.95) was solid, nothing extraordinary or disappointing to write about. Filling portion, good proportion of shrimp, calamari, and fish to the pasta. A generous amount of creamy sauce. Kofte wrap ($14.85) will fill you up and make you happy, leaving a slight food coma after effect. Minced lamb, mushrooms (which give a sweet, earthy taste that complements the meat really well) ranch sauce, melted cheese, sautéed onions and bell peppers are wrapped in a fresh wrap, served with pickles and crunchy, golden fries that you'll really enjoy. Simple and delicious dish. The only modification that it needs is for the sautéed veggies to be less oily. The oil seeped through the wrap in some places, so be aware that this is a high calorie dish you're enjoying. Overall, a relaxing, pleasant experience. The drinks were great as well and so was the food! It can get pretty pricey quick too. I do see the price is different compared to the menu prices on google, it's more accurate to what it is on the website, at the restaurant it seems to be be an additional $1 or $2 dollars. At one point I ordered Braised Lamb, but not noticing it was chicken (was drinking ) and the server did bring out another plate and apologized to me for the mistake. (In the end, my friends tried it, and it was Steak instead of Lamb) I still appreciated the correction either way. We didn't expect it to be cold but it was good. For our mains we ordered the shrimp and the Adana kebab; both came with rice and salad. The salad tasted strangely fishy, but the shrimp and kebab were cooked very well. The rice portion was kind of small but overall the meal was decent sized and tasty.
