Lucky to grab a 730 reservation on a rainy Thursday after getting turned away at a few spots. Definitely not cheap (I think we almost pushed $1000 for 2), but we weren't skimping. Shishito peppers best I have ever had. Great cocktails and a bottle of Hall for $180 (likely less than 3x mark-up). My colleague and I shared the porterhouse and it was perfect. He got the lobster tail on the side and loved it (said we weren't skimping)! Service was totally top-notch!!

Nice location and nostalgic decor to this restaurant. Classic steak house with the same name as the one in Las Vegas. Food phenomenal. We all ordered steak which was cooked to perfection. Appetizers were tasty too. The octopus, steak tartare and wedge salad. Dessert was good too. Would just stick to the 5 layer cake. Key lime cheesecake good but chocolate is way better. Antonio was our server. Very informative and attentive. Don't forget the sides and drinks, too

I've been to the OG Rat Pack Las Vegas location twice, so I was curious to try this new NYC location, open about 6 months, a block from Washington Square Park. The address is One Fifth but the restaurant entrance is on 8th St. Reservations here are a bit easier to secure than in Vegas; 6 weeks ahead vs. 6 months. The exterior is nicer than Vegas' rather nondescript one. The interior is a very good replica of Vegas. There's a few casino/gambling memorabilia in the entry hall, plus a few steer horns mounted above the dining areas. From what I could see, there are 3 dining rooms--the bar area with a number of tables/booths, a booth-lined room that you walk through to get to the main dining room, which has tables in the middle surrounded by larger booths. Surely there are private rooms as well. The wait staff of course all wear classic jackets and bow ties. The main hostess was excellent. After noticing my request for a booth, she reseated us from a table in the main dining room to a booth in the hallway dining room lined with Western paintings she said were replicated ("forged") from the ones in Vegas. Of course, booths here do not have famous names. We were seated for quite a while before anyone came to the table, but after that service was timely. The menu is similar to the Vegas one, but I think a bit smaller? For sure the non-alcoholic beverage options are less; I remember Vegas had some nice fruity mocktail options. The bread service is also unremarkable. Here's what we ordered: the Caesar salad with tableside presentation, the filet mignon, the Ship & Shore dinner with shorthorn (NY) steak and lobster tail, creamed corn, creamed spinach, twice-baked potato and the cherries jubilee flambeed tableside for dessert. The Caesar salad was surprisingly good, the dressing tangier than I recall to nice effect. My shorthorn was very good, prepared medium rare as requested. The lobster tails here are Canadian as opposed to Australian in Vegas; they are less steroid-ally large but perhaps sweeter in taste? I liked the creamed corn here more; the spinach was pretty classic. The sides may have been smaller vs Vegas, but the potato was certainly large enough for 2, topped traditionally with bacon, cheese and green onions. The cherries were a fine finish, large enough to share and not too boozy. I haven't visited any of NYC's classic steakhouses, so I have nothing to compare Golden Steer to, and I know they haven't received a lot of love from some critics, but I thought our visit was fine. I wish them luck.

We thought the food was fine, particularly liked the Caesar salad made tableside, but the steakhouse competition in NYC is tough so I'd definitely say there are better ones to go to. Otherwise, the service and ambiance were nice and overall, we had a pleasant night.

First, the good, service/staff were phenomenal. Jed, our waiter, was amazing. He was kind, courteous, engaging and educational! He knew history about the restaurant and dishes, knowledge he imparted in a charming way. My two favorite dishes were made by Jed (the Cesar's salad & cherries jubilee). The salad was a nice show but kind of mediocre in taste but still one of the better tasting dishes. The ambiance was nice. It felt like an old, fancy 50s restaurant kind of vibe. Decor was nice and the seats were comfy. Now for the bad, the food. The prime rib was very tough/chewy. I've made many prime ribs and never had one so tough. If prime meat was being used, it was tougher than the choice grade beef I usually use. The gremolata with the steak was wonderful. The lamb chops were bordering on dry and bland. It was also a very small portion for the price and quality. The quince that came with the lamb was nice. The shrimp de jonghe had great flavor but were overcooked and hard. The twice baked potato was ok. It tasted like great quality bacon but the potato was a bit chalky. I couldn't eat much of it. Again, Jed was great. He and his cherries jubilee were my favorite part of my dining experience. I would go back for him and the cherries jubilee but the rest of the food/experience did not feel worth it for the money. I'd also like to add another positive is how kind and responsive management was. I had left 3-stars when OpenTable (the platform where you make the reservation) asked me how the experience was and management was very kind and responsive in following up and even offering for us to come back but we didn't want to pay for another visit in the event we were disappointed again. The kindness and responsiveness were very appreciated! They really care about the diner's experience.

If you're looking for a big, luxurious treat of a steak dinner, and price is no object, Golden Steer is an excellent choice. The room is plush, the service is stellar, and the food is unimpeachable. We started with oyster shooters and martinis and buttery and delicious Shrimp de Jonghe. We moved on to their famous tableside Caesar, and then a serious board of the porterhouse, a giant lobster tail, and all the sides (the amazing fries, a twice baked potato, the brussel sprouts, mac and cheese...). And then we finished it off with the bananas foster and the cherries jubilee, because the more things lit on fire tableside, the better. I would do it all again, although I do want to try their saltimbocca, the lamb chops, the other steaks, the other seafood, and really everything. However, I can't eat like this all the time. Both my wallet and my heart can't handle it. My one complaint (besides being broke and in need of some stents) is that if I'm ordering a $240 steak, an insane thing to do by my personal standards, I don't think you should be nickel and diming me for the $6 butters/sauces. Include at least two of them, and make me pay for any extras...maybe. But I just bought a $240 steak. Take the win. Anyway, if you're going to do it, just do it. Go in, order everything you want to eat, and worry about the price tag later (that's what I'm doing now, complaining about the price of the butters).

Ah, it pains me to say this, but I think this place has been overhyped. This is solely because of the food. The steak was pretty good, but everything else left more to be desired, especially because of the price point. With that said, the ambiance is unique. So come if you're looking more for a fun ambiance and fine with an ok meal. Ambiance: old school decor vibes, but the complete opposite of a stuffy old steakhouse. It's fun and lively. Would be a great place for a birthday party, work dinner, etc. Restaurant is huge, so this would be good for larger groups. There's also a massive bar area if you're looking for a spot for drinks. Service was good. Food: sadly this was disappointing. I ordered the below: -Caesar Salad: unfortunately this was disappointing. The table side making was cool, but for $23 PER person it was just ok. It wasn't super flavorful. Needed garlic, pepper... and maybe fancier more flavorful croutons for the price point. I would sadly skip. -Petite Filet: this was good. Enjoyed and would order again. -45 oz Tomahawk Steak: this was good. -Prime Mac n Cheese: this was just ok. It wasn't very flavorful and I sadly would skip. -Madiera Cream Mushrooms: flavorful and the best side we got. If you're a mushroom fan, I recommend. -Twice Baked Potato: massive. We split amongst 4 people and each got a section. It was also just ok. A little dry inside and needed salt.

I have only given 5 stars to La Tete Dor, the French steakhouse by Daniel Boulud. Golden Steer, the NYC transplant from legendary Vegas rivals. The decor is pure Vegas, Sinatra playing in the mens room, bar for a Tuesday was busy. Billy made me a perfect Limoncello Tito's martini, shaken, up with a twist. We ordered the famous caesar salad, shared a rib eye and lobster tail, twice baked potato with roasted brussel sprouts were superb. Bananas foster was a show, finished with an espresso and sambuca. Well done Golden Steer. I am a native New Yorker and have gone to all the steakhouses, Keens, Minetta Tavern, Hawksmoors, Cote, Wolfgangs, Peter Lugar, Gallaghers etc., my zip code Knickerbocker and Striphouse. While I love the places I just named, there is a new Sheriff in town.

I really enjoyed visiting here at Golden steer. Decor was great. If you're looking for some occasions, this is perfect! At entrance, you'll need coat checking (if you have) and hosts are standing. They'll guide you where you need to be seated. Sitting at the bar could be a bit annoyed from bartenders they keep making orders. French fries looked me OLD one -see photo.

The space is sumptuous and transportive. It feels lux and having been to every iteration of the space, this Vegas bordello version is my favorite. Comphy bar seating where I ate. Ate: Housemade roll with butter Dinner salad Salmon with Romesco and haricot very Total: $81 with tip The roll was ok, but everything else was great! The salad was pieces of endive and fennel with a mustard forward dressing and it was delectable. The salmon with a creamy romesco and perfectly al dente haricot verts was spot on and I would eat both again. Also there's lots of Vegas nods which is so fun!

    Delicious PORTOBELLO MUSHROOM
    Laura F.

Exceeded my expectations. One of the best meals I've had in a while. I had the stuffed portabello mushroom with a spicy tomato sauce. My boyfriend had the hunters chicken. We shared an endive salad. Dessert was bananas foster which was prepared table side flames and all. Service was top notch. Decor was like an old Hollywood movie. Merlot leather booths . Highly recommend. A++++

Popular Vegas steakhouse that is now in New York. Definitely much easier to get a reservation than the Vegas location. Also this location doesn't have all the Vegas options. I would recommend going with a larger group as you'll be seated in a booth in the main room. Recommend the shrimp, Caesar and twice baked potatoes. Was so full that didn't end up getting the banana foster. Service and wait staff is legit, constant service from all the various team members.

Escargots de Bourgone Whole Roasted Bone Marrow Fresh Oysters
    Michael N.

Excellent place with excellent service. Amanda (owner) is gorgeous and I loved how she interacted with diners to ensure they were comfortable. Now let's get to the food.. The appetizers were a hit! The Escargot was nice and soft. The popover breading on top was a nice touch but not needed here. The bone marrow was delicious and well seasoned. However for $40 you don't get much other than a few scoops. The raw oysters (east) did not disappoint. Very fresh and briny. The Caesar salad was another standout! Very flavorful. As for the entrees, the mark was missed here. We had the 14oz Prime Rib , the Shorthorn rib eye , two sides ( Mac and cheese + creamed spinach) along with two jumbo lobster tails that to be honest was overpriced. The steaks were bland .. which was very surprising considering everything else was so good. The Cherries Jubilee was amazing... and well prepared. I was given some seasonings to try at home. Loved it

You get a sample of everything served family style and at $79 a person, it's a deal considering that if you ordered appetizers, an entree and dessert you'd pay much more than that in any restaurant in Manhattan. I've done that twice and still ended up taking food home. Drink prices are in line with mid-town Manhattan but $12 for a bottle of San Pellegrino is a little excessive. I'd be okay with $8 or $9 but I guess a few bucks in the grand scheme of things is not the end of the world.
