Our hotel was close in the area and we were just looking for somewhere to eat. My party of 3 walked in and was told to sit anywhere. We sat in a booth by the window. One both did not have a table I was unsure if that was because of COVID to partake in social distancing. We were greeted by the bartender. Once we were ready to order is did take her a while to come back but that was fine. The place wasn't that packed on the day we went, Thursday April 21. We ordered off the app list. Wings, nacho supreme, a basket of fries, mushroom burger, and 2 beers. The swiss mushroom burger was to-go and the it was actually happy hour when we went so the beers were $4.50 each. The nachos were really good along with the fries. The wings were alright i could have done with more sauce. Overall we tore the food (wings, nachos, and fries) and the pricing was reasonable. P.s the burger looked and smelled really good but it was for my aunt so I did not get a taste but she said it was very good! This is a pretty cool neighborhood bar. It's well known by the locals for its karaoke nights which start at 9:30 (early arrival is highly suggested). On the inside it's your standard bar decor a super long bar with plenty of seating and TV's for your sports viewing pleasure and a stage in the corner where all the vocal magic happens. The staff is generally pretty welcoming I've never had or seen too many issues with service even on those nights when the place is super packed with customers. The food overall is pretty decent they offer your traditional bar food like buffalo wings, burgers, mozzarella sticks, as well as more hearty entrees like blackened salmon and pepper steak with most menu items falling under $20. They even offer a brunch menu on Saturday & Sunday's from 11am-3pm. Cocktails range from $9-$12 with items like Hennessy sidecars and winter sangrias. Over the weekend I came here with some friends and had a really great time. I wasn't sure what to expect but I liked the vibe and the variety of music. We had fun sitting at the bar chatting while enjoying our food and drinks. We got these buffalo chicken sliders with onion rings and Cole slaw that were so delicious! I was so excited to see there was a place that had karaoke every evening! So finally we were able to stop in. We walked in and...have you ever walked in somewhere and thought "hehe I'm in danger"? Well that was the vibe here. This is clearly a local bar and if you're not a regular you're not welcome here. For a place that was nearly empty - not a good sign. Anyway, My husband goes to pay my karaoke fee ($5/person) while the group goes to get drinks. We are told we can't order at the bar and someone will come to our table? Weird. No one came to our table. I go to the karaoke area to select my song and the KJ was busy doing something so I waited until she was available since I don't know the procedure for submitting songs here, since it was my first time. When she turned around I tried to hand her the paper and the look of disgust she gave me was confusing while she takes my paper and sets it directly in front of me. Doesn't say a word. A guy comes over and hands her a slip and she takes it and sets it by the computer. I was confused and assumed she didn't take my paper because maybe she though I hadn't paid yet (since my husband paid). So I clarified that when he paid it was for me and he isn't singing. Her reply "I know." So I asked her if I needed to do anything to submit my song. Wow. After reading reviews I was expecting more. True dive bar with about 4 draft options. Crowd loud and drunk. Went in at about 7 pm and guy at bar bragging he had been there since one o'clock. They should have cut him off at 3 o'clock. He could barely stand. Another female was screaming her conversation at who ever would listen. I can't believe people order food from here. Bar was sticky. Service and servers are great; drinks are great. I love the Rock It Grill. For years we would jam in on a Friday night for some great Nachos, cold beer, and some great Karaoke. The sound system is above average and it's so much fun to tie a few on with a relaxed crowd and jam some Bon Jovi. I have had a few poor service issues however not everyone can be perfect all the time. The staff is friendly and fun which makes for a great grill spot. I use a wheelchair so space is a little limited especially on a crowded Friday night...but it's fun. I would recommend giving them a try for some evening fun and a cold beer with friends. We were advised to seat ourself, and once we did the waiter got in our face and was nothing but rude telling us "we were in the wrong spot". The waiter/bartender with the pixie cut has major attitude that this restaurant could do without. Once we were sat in a new seat, she gave us 5 minutes (if that) to look at the menu before becoming visibly aggravated when we said we hadn't had the chance to look at the menu yet. We walked in and saw a "seat yourself" sign, so that's what we did - sat at a big, obvious booth right next to several other parties being served. After waiting 20 or 25 minutes, no server even acknowledged our presence (though they were serving the table next to us actively). After a few more minutes, we saw a staff member counting people, so I got up and asked if he knew how we might hail a server. He said he'd take care of it, so I sat back down, and he comes over with the server we'd seen, and the server just looks at us, shakes his head, and walks away. The man who helped us said we might have better luck sitting in the middle of the restaurant by the wall, so we moved and started over, this time under deafening speakers. Another 15 minutes or so go by and no server even comes close to us. After nearly an hour of trying to get noticed at all, we left hungry and annoyed. What a cute area for a grill! First night in Alexandria and decided to stop in on a Monday for half price sandwiches. The place was a funky smell to it -- we were Immediately helped and took about 5 min to get drinks and placed our order. That was the last time we saw our server. Had to ask for a drink we ordered -- never was checked on again - got up for our own drink refill. Had to wait about 10-15 min for our tab. been coming here on and off for years. The owner Laura runs a pretty cool bar with specials throughout the week..and of course there is late night karaoke, for which the Rockit is know. But I'm writing about burger day, which occurs every Tuesday from 11-11 with 1/2 priced burgers throughout the day. The burgers on burger day are pretty massive, and mine cooked meadium rare which some restaurants can often mess up. The service fast and efficient, and if I had to offer a suggestion it would be to make sure that the fries were a little more crisp. But that is a small point and my burger more than made up for it I also notice that the Rockit is getting a long overdue facelift which is nice. I'm starting a theme with the # of reviews for the year since I'm trying to think of random ways to come up with more reviews to write. On my 95th review of 2018, I wrote on a business off I-95. For my 96th review of the year, I was thinking to go with a 96 F day at DCA. The last time it was 96 F for a high was in July 2017. However, I don't remember that specific day offhand. I then looked at the last time it was exactly 96 F in June, and it occurred on Saturday, June 11, 2016. I had been to Rock It Grill on a couple of occasions before that. 2012: I lived in Alexandria, and I remember I stumbled across this place late at night on a Friday or Saturday night. I was kind of dark & dingy, and people were doing karaoke, but I wasn't too impressed. Saturday, July 13, 2013: City of Alexandria was celebrating their anniversary with a fireworks display on the water, which they do every year. Afterward, a group was going to Rock It for some food &/or drink. It turns out that a woman I had some history (more specifically negative history, but we remained friends after a friendly outing after we had dated trying to put the past behind us and simply be friends) with in late 2012-early 2013 was there and another woman who I more recently had gone on two dates in June 2013, which didn't work out either. They were friends, and it was a bit awkward for me, but I still had a decent time talking to various people. I think I got a burger or chicken sandwich, which was mediocre as I recall. They had the dance floor, which was fun. Saturday, June 11, 2016: I went with a couple of friends here for a fun night. I sang one karaoke song, a Jimmy Buffett song as I recall, but the karaoke rotation is terrible. 1.5+ hours to be called again on a Saturday night. So, you might sing 2 songs if you're lucky, but most just get to sing one -So choose wisely. It was a little too crowded in there. It didn't take too long to get my beer from the bar, which was good. There was a girl I was interested in (about 8 years younger than me). We had a very nice conversation, but she was a little weird and was going to be moving in October. She was moving to Orlando to work for Disney because she loved Disney so much. We had added each other on Facebook. There is a sad element to this paragraph. The next morning I woke up to news of the biggest mass shooting in US (up to that date) in Orlando, and I thought what cruel irony that I had just met this girl expressing such enthusiasm for Orlando. More sadly, another even worse one occurred in Vegas in October 2017 (See my Da Marco the Italian Place review in Germantown, MD where I reference a third date & the sadness of that Monday after waking up to that horrific news). Summary: Overall, I have some good memories of the place being pretty fun, but it's dark, crowded, & bad for karaoke rotation. I'm lukewarm to this place. I wouldn't suggest it, but if someone wants to go, I wouldn't necessarily push for somewhere else either. read more

Checked out the karaoke they have at nine-thirty, Wednesday thru Saturday. Croaked out a couple of songs and still received an astonishing round of support applause from everyone. The second time I went q few of the customers were dancing to some of the singing. As we say in Hawaii: Was good fun! The bartenders, DJ host, and the atmosphere is very friendly. The most affordable restaurant/ bar in Old Towne Alexandria. I was there on vacation last month and had dinner and happy hour drinks. The service was excellent. Very attentive friendly service. I had the New York Strip steak. It was one of the best steaks I ever had. It was a perfect medium rare just like I requested. The onions and vegetables were awesome. It was so big I couldn't even finish it and I took it back to the hotel to warm it up for breakfast the next day! Best prices and happy hour in the Alexandria area. I've been to Old Town a bunch of times and never really even noticed this place. It's a quasi dive bar with no frills and a slight dive bar smell. It's not your usual tourist bar or stuck up DC place so don't expect a weird theme and tons of tourists, instead they have a bunch of large TVs with sports, a couple of pool tables, a juke box, and a little stage in the front for bands and karaoke. They don't have an amazing tap selection, just the standards and their enjoyable Rock-It Ale so don't expect the latest craft brews. As for the food, the "small" nachos were huge and more than enough for two people and they were okay but nothing special. They had real cheese and lots of salsa and vegetables but the ground beef seemed more like something from Taco Bell than anything special. The service was very friendly and totally absent of the "DC attitude" you get some places here. Expect a no frills, neighborhood bar and you'll enjoy this place. Always a good time hanging out here with friends. The drinks are good, the atmosphere is always energetic and karaoke is always a blast. It's cool to be able to sing along with strangers that you've just met as if you were best friends. After a few drinks, you just may be best friends, even if just for the moment.
