Amazing Japanese food with a cool method of delivering your meal to you. I only order some appetizers - spicy edamame, miso soup and shrimp/veggie tempura. We were on our way back to Chicago from a fun ski week in Sun Valley, Idaho when United Airlines made us an offer we couldn't refuse to spend a night in SF. We jumped on it for the travel vouchers and our kids were super excited for their first trip to SF. While it's my home away from home for work, my kids have never been. We quickly put together a fun night of SF activities, which we knew needed to include a delicious sushi dinner. My daughter really wanted to shop at Aviator Nation and Rocket Sushi was nearby. The concept is so fun for kids...and adults! You place your order on the iPad at your table and a rocket brings you your food. Genius! My first thought was they must save a lot on employees, but we had lots of attention from wait staff bringing us drinks and cleaning up after us. The sushi itself was super fresh and tasty too! We started with edamame and massive fresh pieces of salmon sashimi, which were so filling. We also ordered a bunch of rolls - the cherry blossom (so so), double hamachi (good) and a roll with scallops inside (great). I filled up pretty fast, yet that rocket kept delivering food! Fortunately, my sushi loving 8 year old at the kids table behind us is a bottomless pit when it comes to sushi and ate every last bite at his table...and ours. The service was excellent; I called to make sure my order would arrive a bit earlier than I had initially scheduled, and it was ready right at 5pm. They provided extra utensils as well. This was a fun sushi stop! We found it by accident and didn't realize that it is called Rocket Sushi because your sushi literally arrives on a rocket! That was a nice touch. I came here on Valentine's Day and as soon as we got seated, I kid you tf not, there was a full grown man ahh cockroach on the table behind the tablet that you order from. Very unsanitary as I observed while waiting to be seated that the tables were NOT wiped down in between guests, also when we sat down at the cockroach infested booth, there was still trash from the previous guests under the table. I had so much fun watching this thing fly pass the booths with food. The miso was so flavorful and spicy that I couldn't stop eating it. Top five ramen for sure! I've been meaning to try this place for so long and luckily got to go today! We stopped by at 3pm (which, first of all, is a miracle considering how rare it is to find a sushi restaurant that's not on a late afternoon break) and there were about 3 other booths occupied and we got seated right away. It definitely seemed like the space was set up to optimize for their takeout orders but even still, it was still spacious and pleasantly decorated, clean, and bright inside. Revolving sushi, bullet train sushi, ROCKET SUSHI, you name it, I love it. I love the concept of being able to choose what you eat at your leisure, not to mention you can continue your social (or anti-social) interactions at the table without being interrupted by servers or having to decide all that you want at the start of a meal. Orders are done 4 at a time and shuttled to your table on these rockets! That definitely puts a little excitement in your day. On the menu: Black angel roll - yum! The tuna literally melts in your mouth. It's topped with tobiko so it gives you a hint of sea salt that brings out the flavor of the tuna. Romeo and Juliet - oh man this is how scallops should be served. Super fresh no fishy smell or taste. Been here a few time and this is the first time I ordered more hot food than sushi. Of course I kept my favorite Sake Toro Nigiri which is so fresh and such a good deal! I mean look at it! Anyway, I love how they separate the curry with the Tonkatsu when it come so it stays crispy the whole time. I also ordered grilled salmon Kama to goes with my $1 Hot sake to warm me up in this rainy days. They waitress refilled my tea a few time and always walk by and check if I need anything else. I love how the name of the restaurant literally describes how they deliver the sushi to your table. You are given an iPad where you can add 4 items per order - once the order is through, they will make it and send it over to you. Depending on the item the time to get to your table can vary, and I found that they tended towards longer wait times especially during peak hours. Because of this, I generally prefer the other style of conveyer belt sushi where they send a bunch of dishes on the conveyer belt and you can just grab the dishes as they pass by. The menu itself has many options, including more traditional sushi rolls, nigiri, specialty roles, and dessert items. The two speciality rolls we had were the crunchy roll and the caterpillar roll, and they both tasted delicious. The Hamachi (yellow fin) nigiri was absolutely fantastic, and as a huge plus the portions they gave were way larger than what you would usually get at a sushi place. Finally to start your meal off, I would recommend the Chicken Kara Age, they make them really well here.
