This is one place that's always busy, so I was happy to finally try after a day of hiking at Deception Pass. There is indoor seating and outside seating when the weather is nicer. They are attached to a brewery and offer lots of local choice beers. Seating was quick, although service was slow maybe due to staffing shortages. We were seated in a corner by the windows which was a great place to people watch. Lots of choices on the menu from sandwiches, entrees, and wood fired pizza. I had the bbq pulled pork sandwich. A large mound of tender pork topped with cheese. Onions and bbq sauce on the side so you add as much as you want. I also had the gluten free bun which was really good, not too dense. Don't forget the pickle spear! Waffle fries were crisp and large. The coleslaw did not have a lot of dressing or flavor. My partner had the coconut fried prawns with sweet potato waffle fries. Went in on a quick weekend getaway with a few friends. We were quickly seated in a packed house. They had a fantastic band playing music on Saturday night that kept everyone entertained. Rockfish Florentine: think of it like a chicken pot pie but with fish. It's super creamy, herby, and had flavors of butter and garlic. Even though it was creamy, it was light and fresh. Overall I was very happy with my experience and would recommend coming in again. Especially if a band is playing on a Saturday night! It's just a great local favorite spot with loyal customers who appreciate the quality service. The owners were really on top of things during Covid and took creative measures to keep customers and staff safe, employed and well served. My husband and I finished a 7 mile hike and wanted to check out the Anacortes Brewery and Rockfish Grill. Walked into Rockfish Grill at 1:30pm on Saturday with prompt seating. Our waitress took our beer and food order at the same time and we received our food first. After hiking 7 miles we def. needed our post beer FIRST, especially when you get a tasting flight. The old man ordered an oyster shooter and the salmon burger. I ordered the fish and chips. My husband had no complaints about the food but I did (he was more concerned about where his beer was). Two pieces of beer battered fish and waffle fries for $17 seems a bit overpriced. Especially with the fries tasting like they were freezer burnt with little to zero seasoning. I love my french fries and these were underwhelming. The menu was very large and for someone that doesn't like making decisions it's a bit overwhelming. My husband and I visited northern Washington. We wanted some good seafood for dinner. I ordered coconut crusted prawns with the most delicious dipping sauce. My dinner also included sweet potato waffle fries which were crispy and delicious. My husband ordered the crab Mac & Cheese which he thoroughly enjoyed. We ordered 2 drinks asked about fish and chips and substituting fries for chowder. $17 for two piece fish and chips sub chowder and add $2.50. That is some very expensive fish! We received our drinks after about 10 minutes, my Stoli soda in a pint glass was $9.19, a beer at $6.43, expensive! The drink was awful. Rockfish is a quaint little place located in the heart of old Anacortes. It is nicely decorated and clean. I found the ambience to be very inviting with what looks to be it's original 19th century bar and antique woodwork. The service was fast and friendly, our waitress did a great job. Unfortunately I wasn't very impressed with my meal. I ordered the fish and chips. The fish was rockfish I believe, it was dredged in panko and over fried making the thin filet tough to bite through and somewhat dried out. The accompanying sides- waffle fries and coleslaw where ok. Don't go by the pictures posted. I was drawn in by the Coconut Shrimp picture. I even searched for a restaurant with Shrimp and Chips on the menu and Rick Fish Grill came up. The beers? Outstanding. The fish and chips? Massive and salty-delicious. The location? Perfect, cold, and rainy. The service? On point. We randomly stopped by Rockfish Grill when we were exploring the area and found the downtown harbor area to be oddly empty (only later did we find out it was due to some massive, impending storm that we were unaware was coming), so we stepped in for a pint and lunch. This place had a huge selection of craft brews and I found the Knucklehead Red to be the perfect pairing for the fish and chips. The pieces of fish are huge and you won't leave the restaurant hungry. Visiting from Massachusetts and impressed by the comparison! Excellent crispy fish and chips with nice fresh Cole slaw. The appetizer shrimp were big, juicy, and very nicely prepared, but the tequila lime dipping sauce was un-bee-leevable. We kept swabbing it up with the empty tails, and wanted to drink what was left ;-) The other nice surprise? As busy as they were tonight, service was Johnny on the spot. I hadn't been back to Rockfish Grill in quite some time as I didn't live in WA until fairly recently. I was in Anacortes for an orca watching tour and I was ravenous when I finished it. I immediately headed for Rockfish Grill and I was so glad I did. The service was very good, even as a lone diner. I ordered the Rockfish Florentine and all I can say about it is "WOW!" It was delicious and I enjoyed every bite of it. I finished off that wonderful meal with a cup of vanilla ice cream (treated myself, it was my birthday!) and it was the perfect ending. I noticed the meals other diners were having and I can tell I need to make that 40 mile drive more often. Thank you for still being a great place for a fantastic meal! read more

Unfortunately, our dining experience wasn't great (despite a very attentive and friendly server). My wife ordered the fish and chips, because the menu said they were beer-battered. They were not battered - they were very clearly breaded rather than battered, probably with Panko. She doesn't care for Panko (or breaded fish and chips, generally), and wouldn't have ordered them if she'd known. BUT, no big deal, because I'll pretty much eat any fried fish, so we just switched plates. I enjoyed the fish just fine, but the slaw tasted very old (wilty and sour), and the waffle-cut fries were so overcooked I could literally snap them apart with an audible "crack." The fries were inedible, as was the slaw. My order had been a pepperoni pizza, which I traded to my wife. It was okay but not great - the cheese was very heavy in some parts, absent in others (one slice only had sauce and pepperoni showing, no cheese). But, again, it was okay overall. The prices were pretty high for what we got. I'd have been happy paying what we paid for food that's better prepared and better presented, but what we got was several steps below what they're charging for. Again, however, the service was very good The place itself was also an upside. The live music wasn't for us, but a lot of patrons really seemed to enjoy it, and it was neither too loud nor too quiet. The space itself was cool, and the location is great - right downtown, near the theater and the boat yard. Overall, I can't really recommend it, but we might try again someday, in case we were just there on an "off night." read more

Huge pieces of fish for their fish 'n chips, amazing generous size fish tacos and one of the best clam chowder we've had in our travels. While staying in Anacortes for a week I revisited some eateries that I'd been too during COVID to see how they had changed. Unfortunately a few didn't make it! But Rockfish survived. I think this is probably o e if the best Fish & Chips plates I've had anywhere except the UK and NZ. The 2piece is enough for two. We'll presented, cooked perfectly and plated with a great coleslaw or fries. My next visit a week later I ordered from the kids menu. Same great good just less. The beer choices are great, all brewed on the premises. And if you like a spicy margarita, order the Jalapeño lime!! You won't be disappointed. And only fries was good as per me. Ale wasn't bold taste and looks like it was mixed with some water... The bread in burger was dumped. Service not great. Our waitress kept try to give our food to other tables. Shrimp artichoke dip was a disaster. It was runny and tasteless.. I ordered a bloody Mary from the bar and it was the worst thing I think I've ever had in my life. I think they used tomato juice or Clamato juice instead of bloody Mary mix and it was awful. Had the white fish and clam chowder. The soup was hot although a little on the watery side. The fish was decent. It was a huge portion and I got full pretty fast. I tried to eat the larger pieces so I could actually eat some of the fish versus the small pieces that were really just a thick breading. Service was decent for a busy place and we made friends with a local sitting next to us at the bar. Great little town with cute shops. We happened to visit when there was a block party/ street fair. We have eaten there before now. The food was quite delicious. At times it took a little longer than we thought usual. This review is for the cream cheese brownie, vanilla ice cream, and the berry cobbler desserts. First of all, the helpings are enormous and we could have had plenty with just one brownie to split and the same with one ice cream serving. I would not want to order one each again. We could each only manage to eat one half of our desserts and that was pushing it for sure. Each dessert was absolutely delicious. Both were fresh and delicious. Pretzels were probably premade which is fine. It was about the cheese sauce and it was definitely made fresh yummo. While on vacation in Anacortes, we wanted to check out a pub where the locals like to gather. Rockfish did not disappoint on that front. It was easy to tell right away that it's a local favorite. And for what it's worth, it's charming in its own way. The decor is indicative of a well-established, classic watering hole that has been around for a long time. When we arrived, it was fairly quiet - around 5:30 in the afternoon on a Sunday. Surprisingly it took a few minutes for anyone to notice that we were waiting for a host, and by the time someone came out to seat us, there were a few parties in queue behind us. Not a big deal, just a little odd considering how quiet it was. We ordered two drinks and the Coconut Prawns as an appetizer. I'll be honest, I was a little taken aback by spending $20 for five shrimp. They were "meh" at best. For an entree, I ordered the Salmon. While the fish tasted fine, I've had microwaved Zatarain's with more flavor than that rice pilaf. Yikes. My wife had the salmon sandwich. Again - nothing to write home about, and pricey. I think the thing I was most amazed by were the prices, especially for the apps. Not sure where the justification for that steep of a pricing scheme comes from, but from my perspective it was very inflated. Our waitress Alyessa was very attentive and friendly, so I'll give credit where it's due. One small tip though - next time spring cleaning rolls around, you may want to look up. There are some pretty obvious cob webs suspended from the light fixtures and ceiling panels. That doesn't really add to the ambiance. read more

I dunno man. For some reason I thought this place would be good. Looks great inside. Service was okay. Could definitely be better. Luckily I was able to make eye contact with my waitress to get some things I wanted/needed. But the food...? I wish I knew a secret to ordering here if there was one. It was just really really really mediocre at best. My daughters got chicken tenders and Mac n cheese from the kids menu. Tasted and looked like cafeteria food or frozen food. I got a small salad for almost $15, and it was INCREDIBLY underwhelming. The utensils were tiny and cheap. I felt like I was eating with kids silverware from the dollar store and for some reason that really bothered me. (I was trying to cut my salad and I might as well have been using plastic cutlery.) I tasted my husband's ghost pepper gosh bites and meeeh. Just a bummer. And the worst part is, I tasted everyone's food and have had a growing stomach ache since we ate there 5 hours ago. Maybe it was the Jalapeño Margarita I had. But I'm really feeling yuck. My daughter complained of a stomach ache tonight too but thought she maybe had too much sugar tonight. I dunno now. read more

We stopped by for a quick lunch before heading to a whale watching tour. Being in Anacortes and not having much selection, we weren't expecting much from a restaurant in the area, but this place actually turned out to have really enjoyable food at good prices. Two of us started with an oyster shooter - way better than what we had in San Juan! Nice and fresh (huge) oyster with some cocktail sauce, horseradish, lemon, and (oddly) a piece of salad on the bottom. A few of us got a burger, and they all looked really good; they came with a side salad, which was huge, and everything looked darn tasty; I almost wished I would have gotten one instead of fish and chips, but I'm glad I didn't because the F&C were delicious. The breading was really crunchy and flaky with the fish, nice and hot and not too much of it, so you could actually taste the fish. The side waffle fries were pretty good, but I thought the coleslaw was lacking in flavor (needed some salt and more bite). We sat in the stage/dining area, where they supposedly have live music (there were fliers around); it's half bar, half restaurant so it seems like it could be a fun place on a Friday/Saturday. The food is pretty good, especially the fish and chips. The service can be subpar sometimes when it's busy, and the menu prices have really gotten super high over the past few years. We used to eat at Rockfish quite often, but have slowed down because of the prices. The ribs used to be our go to entree, but the past times we've ordered them they've been super rubbery and difficult to get meat off of. Not sure if this is a result of new workers cooking, but they're significantly more tough and the sauce is poured onto the top in one glob that does even cover the whole rack. The ribs used to be tender and the racks were thoroughly sauced on both sides when served. I would certainly say that the quality of the ribs has decreased drastically and resembles a haphazard, rushed preparation ever single time I've ordered it in the past 2 years. My husband and I went to Rockfish last night for dinner. We arrived at 8:15pm, 45 minutes before they closed. The hostess, who looked exhausted, barely greeted us and just kind of looked at me blankly when I asked for a table. She looked around and finally said, "Well, we do close at 9pm so you'll have to place your order quickly." I told her we know they close at 9 and that's why we arrived 45 minutes prior to closing. She wiped off a table and sat us down. When our waitress came to the table she was super friendly and warm as opposed to the deadpan hostess. I told her our experience with the hostess and she immediately apologized and said it's been an ongoing issue. Everything else from that moment on was awesome! We ordered the salmon sandwich and the reuben, both of which were great! And we also got the coconut prawns for an appetizer. Fantastic!
